Hello all,
Any of you had any issues with the magnetic charging port on your Z2 coming lose? Mine has. Pulled it off the magnetic charging dock and the port was left of the dock.
Please post a picture

i dont have any issues with my port. i dont use dock.. but i have the magnetic connector.. the magnetic port is held by a clip in the other side of the metal frame, i think that might have released your port.. thats an easy fix..but u need to disassemble the phone..
this is what came out...
Return the phone at once to where you made your purchase. Insist on either a new phone or a full refund. No brainer.
Let us now how you get on. Good luck and stand your ground!

Haha, this is really awkward. I hope Sony will fix this for you - looks really like a problem on the manufacturing side.
I wonder if the water resistant capability is vulnerable because of this, can you see internals thru holes after the dock?

I'm sorry, bad English.
Several cases occurred in the same issue, even in our country.
But the problem is the fault of the customer, according to Sony service center.
Many people are angry, but they do not change attitudes.
Sony's quality control is questionable, but they do not recognize it either.
I hope you look forward to a good result. Please let us know results later!
I tohught i'd found someone that had the charging port always crooked problem this is much different.
that is something to look out for.
Worried now as i use the magnetic port exclusively.
This just happened to me today. I removed my phone from the dock this morning and the port was detached from the phone and was stuck on the dock its already my second phone as the first one had digitizer lines, gaps etc.
I'm on my third device now. Just happened to me on monday but I was using a third party charging cable.
it looks like the port is just glued in with the contacts being pushed into the phone. I would have thought they would have made it with a lip so it could not be pulled out!? or is that to much like common sense lol.
This is hilarious, I can't believe this have happened to the charging port, it looks very sturdy.
i was planning to buy this (it has really good reviews, 5 stars on all the reviews,.... although its only like 9 people that reviewed it)
http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Per...402475479&sr=8-4&keywords=z2+magnetic+charger
it says that it has twice the Magnetic Power than original Sony Xperia Charging Cable.... that sounds good because i heard the original one is kinda weak and disconnects easy,.... but in the other hand it increases the possibility of making the magnetic port loose,.....
has anyone tried this product yet????

Common sense does not exist in the corporate world. They are mutually exclusive (save for some extenuating circumstances).
So how does this affect waterproofing, is the phone stilled even if the port isn't in?
If it is then I wouldn't mind having to put dab of glue and shove it back in if mine ever came out.
If it's not then it might have been a leakage point for some of the people that ended up with moisture inside after phone is submerged.
I guess I'm going to have look for those tear down photos & see if it shows details of the frame/magnetic port.

Well this is awkward. My port just came loose after using Sony original magnetic charger. Darn that's annoying, guess I have to return it. Should I relock the Bootloader? It doesn't have anything to do with software..
Sent from my D6503
I just sent it for repair, not sure if they can fix it or I get a new phone. Hopefully it's not "my fault". I will update when I hear from them.
Please update me, mine did not come out but at the opposite it looks like it's being pushed in, there is a tiny gap showing on the left side as if it's going to fall inside the phone from one side.

Anyone knows where to get a replacement? I think it's what it's called. It's the small plastic cap on top of the phone over the cable socket. Lost mine at some point...
There is probably no replacement for this. Either live with it or replace the whole housing.

You mean they last more that two days then It is so much easier to connect the cable without it - shame there isn't a thing to fill the holes it leaves behind though (aside from the USB one that is).
Go to a site called "netimes.com" and type "micro usb" into there search box .I.ve ordered a pair already, will let you know what they're like when they arrive.

Yup, true genius engineering design went into that usb connector. (Same guy tested the in-call volume in a sound proof room).
What?!?! Put the connector at the bottom and be like everyone else?? No X10 owner would want to put the device into a docking stand. That would just be foolish.
My previous phone, an HTC Cruise, has the connection at the bottom with no cover. In more than a year of being in my shirt pocket on a daily basis the mini-usb never got any dust in it. At least not enough to ever prevent a good usb connection.
I've had my Rezound for just over two weeks and the MHL port housing is loose! I can literally flick the rectangle shaped black housing around with my finger
I purchased through Amazon as part of the Penny Pincher sale. Anyone else have this issue? I'm debating whether I should do a warranty exchange. When my phone vibrates it makes a loud noise due to this and I'm afraid it might get worse in the future.
Live with it or exchange?

Exchange!!!
That is an important port used for everything. Charging, data hook up, output to TV etc...
My old phone's port got damaged and even though it wasn't a smart phone it sucked to not be able to hook it up as data and to have weak charging because of it. Had to buy an external battery charger for the last few months of owning it to keep it functional since it started having trouble charging at all. And then I had to copy each pic one at a time to the sd card so I could salvage them because I couldn't hook it up as data.
I also purchased mine for a penny from Amazon and mine has been trouble free.
My wife and I have had this problem on the 2 replacement phones we have each gotten from Amazon. The originals didn't exhibit this behavior. We are going to get two more replacements and hope that they don't show the same issue. It is the black plastic bezel around the port that is loose.
fyi, i don't think the plastic bezel is attached to the actual charging port... so if that's lose, it doesn't really matter as long as the port is soldered firmly to the board.

Exactly. I've had 2 Rezounds, same on both, it's just the bezel, not the port. It is slightly annoying that it rattles when the phone vibrates though.

I sent mine to Texas after receiving RMA#. I've been waiting over 3 weeks to have it fixed. Tried to buy the cap but could not find it anywhere. I have only found port cover for Xperia phone Z but wasn't sure if they match those on the tablet. Anyway it is fixed now and recently I bought a cradle and it works great. I think it is a must to avoid damaging those covers. Pricey but I think it looks good, functions properly and it is great for watching movies, playing games and typing.
Bottom line send the tablet back to Sony and in the same time get a cradle and you will not have any issues with the tablet's waterproof tabs.

Thanks. I am sure the cradle is the best solution but not very practical when traveling and charging on the road on trains or air plains.
the cap must have a design flow if it breaks only after a couple of weeks.
Agreed. It was not the greatest engineering marvel. Cradle is in fact very thin and it fits the tablet very snug so I don't see any problem of taking it with me when I go. The threaded plug port with an o-ring would have been much better solution than that cheesy tab. But then again not many people would have bought a cradle. It is a good product but like most electronics it has its flows. My advice try not to open those tabs too often or better avoid opening them altogether. They will last forever. Bluetooth headphones, cradle, WiFi can easily facilitate it.

I would prefer that Sony replaced these, but they told me that when the tiny piece of plastic bends and breaks that it's considered physical damage. I find that odd that a main selling point is its resistance to damage but the part that protects from damage breaks off with normal use. I had to settle for replacement covers I found on ebay.

I had this situation that the cap got bend because I forgot to put it back after closing the tablet cover over it. I was able to bend it a bit the other side and also notice the little pin needed to be straighten so that it will fit back in place. This is when I notice the hole next to the usb to be used when the cap is open you insert the cap pin in it.

I don't know if that could work as a replacement part: something that looks like the current part, but with an extra rubber plug that would fit inside the mini usb port to hold it in place...

**EDIT***
I remembered something I saw a few years back, is called Sugru, a moldable rubber that cures and can be used for almost anything. Search them out on Google.

well the problem with removing the back is that it is not waterproof any more when you put it back on

Btw are you talking a bout a video of replacing the cap or a video about dissabling the tablet ?
From what I've seen the tab cover has a "nipple" which can be squeezed and pushed through the hole (from the inside of the tablet). I don't think it is easily or even possible to do it from the outside. Besides I think the back panel acts like a gasket and seals the inside so I don't understand why would the tablet lose its waterproof capability. Do you have any bad experience?? Besides I don't see why could not you smear very fine silicon layer around the mating parts and make it 100% waterproof! Disassembly is here: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zczfTnBFqtA
Good luck and let us know how did you make out.

Anyone else having physical problems with their Z2?
As of a few weeks ago, I've started noticing that the top right corner of the back panel of my Z2 popping up slightly (like 2mm to 3mm) several times a day and I would have to press it back down. The cover on the USB/SIM area will also mysteriously be open sometimes when I fish the phone out of my pocket even though it does still feel quite firmly closed once I put the cover back in place.
I went down to my local Sony service centre and they said that they will rectify the issues for me and might replace the "loose" flap too (also told me to avoid water since it's not waterproof with the back like that) - but it would take 7 working days and that I should call their helpline to check if there was any issue for me sending my set in as it has an unlocked BL.
Seems like the original Z had the same problem with the back cover - http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/08/0...ose-back-panels-water-resistance-compromised/ and the loose flaps issue isn't new either (but the rubber seals on mine look perfect).
Flash a stock kernel and relock your bootloader, few people actualy check these days for DRM keys however they do check rarely for your bootloader status
And your physical problems are totaly abnormal so try very hard to get a replacement

for the flap problem, easy easy fix. Get some silicone grease at your hardware store or wherever. Take a lil and moisturise the flaps' rubber, works like a charm. Seems like the seal just dries out.

I just tried it and it seems to make the flap come loose more easily. Looking at the flap, it seems to pop open because of insufficient friction between the seals and the socket for the flap...

I just applied this - http://www.wd40specialist.com/products/silicone-lubricant/) - thinly using a q-tip. No worries. Wasn't too expensive and it could be closed again once I cleaned it off. Tried a slightest touch of hair gel (I was desperate...LOL) and that didn't work too well either.
I guess I'll just try to relock the BL and feign ignorance and send it in for "hardware faults" even though the bored sounding helpdesk lady on the phone said that the warranty is voided.

Genuinely quite disappointed with the niggling faults that the phone has. Random freezes and self-reboots and WIFI issues on my Z2 and my dad's Z1 is making me lose confidence in Sony to deliver a solid all-round device. It's a really beautiful phone with a wonderful camera but compared to build quality and software stability my previous HTC M7 (converted to a GPE ROM) which was essentially bulletproof and could have months and months of uptime without a reboot...ugh.

For me, the flaps are good, and the back panel on the edges doesn't seem to pop up or to be misaligned with the edge, but on a light press on a few places it feels like the back panel is loose, and you can hear a small "tactile" feedback when pressed.
Should i get it checked or is it just a little hollow on these few places? For me that's the spot a little to the left and bottom of the SONY logo on the back, in height of the volume rocker.

I've received my new USB flap and the issue is fixed, the new flap is not loose. It was not due to the phone body as I feared but a premature wear of the flap...
Anyway, I don't recommend to open the flap but in exceptional circumstances. Transferring files wireless and charging phone with magnetic port should be the rule and recommended by Sony.

To be honest, it's just the hassle of having to wait a week (and having to go back to my HTC M7) or so for them to get it fixed. Plus my set might not be accepted by them as the BL is unlocked (towelroot came too late for me unfortunately )
I do intend to send it in for repairs (also dinged the flap a little, might as well get that swapped out too) some time soon as the loose back is really REALLY bugging me.
My god I have the same problem. Everytime I pull it out of my pocket the flap is out. Damn this phone was perfect . I cleaned soo ****ing well and the USB flap stays in more time but its still poping out.
To everyone using a magnetic charger, I need some reassurance that it is safe to use third party connectors.
I bought my girlfriend a Magnector adapter (version 2), and after 4 months of usage, the magnet has pulled her magnetic port off. Now the phone has compromised its waterproof feature.
Now I am worried about using third party magnetic connectors, or at least the Magnector one since it is known to have a significantly stronger magnet. I'm trying to figure out if it's a defect in her particular phone, or if all Z2's were just constructed to not withstand stronger magnets over time.
Please share what has been your experience with magnetic chargers, what brand, and for how long? Thank you.

The magnetic port on some early devices weren't glued on properly (the adhesive was not so good), so the magnet would pull of the port. For some people you could even push it in.
As for the magnet strength, shouldn't be much of a factor if you have one of the newer lots of devices. If not, then I would suggest buying an official DK36 dock from Sony. If you want to save some money, you can buy the DK32/DK31 for the older Z1 Compact and buy adjustments for the z2 (as I did).

The Sony support forum for the device.
Earlier batch numbers had multiple imperfections (I too have an old batch but my only problem was the misaligned glass).
You can check your batch number by pulling out the flap in the microSD port.
Mine's 14W20 (so you can compare).
Anything above 25 or 28 should be one of the newer ones.

Which number corresponds to the batch number in your case? The 14 or 20?

There were far more problems on older batches
Still Sony production always seem to have one problem or another.
I think the perfect batch was 14W28 AFAIR

Correction, my batch actually says 15W12. I assume now the 15 probably corresponds to the year. So hopefully mine should be good. I'm just gonna take a leap of faith and continue using the magnetic charger. Nobody seems to have any hard facts about the issue, so I'll just have to test it myself and report back.
If anybody else has issues with their magnetic ports coming loose, please share here. Thanks for setting me in the right direction Hussain.

Yeah you're right
I bought mine last year in May/June.
A small TIP: Do not connect the magnetic charger in the Wrong Way, It'll screw your PHONE..
Just to update everyone who comes across this thread, my latest 2015 batch Xperia Z2 magnetic port came off using the magnector adapters. Just stay away from those things. This is the THIRD phone it has pulled the connector off.
I have a 14W25 build and it also had the issue ,tho only one of the sides seemed to be coming loose ,so once i tried to press it back in with a little bit of force ,and there was like a little click ,since then it hasnt been moving from its place.
Just wondering, did you pull the magnetic charger correctly??
You should never pull the magnetic charger horizontally, but you should pull it by tilting the magnetic charger vertically, it should came off easily.
my port came lose a while ago and wouldn't always charge
tonight it is now out of the phone!
I have ordered a new charging port and will be glueing it in!
lets see how it goes
Hey, someone told me that the place where I plug-in the magnetic charger may pop out after a while, is that true?!
