[Q] Custom Ringtones on ICS? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Flashed ICS Passion V7 from neobuddy89. First off great rom. Awesome. I love it. But i was hoping to find out if its possible to use your own mp3 ringtones on the ICS OS instead of the stock ones that it comes with. Creating a "media" folder doesnt help and I cant seem to find the folder that holds the ringtones and notifications. Any help would be appreciated.

Create a ringtones folder on your SD card and drop then in There.

Tried. The problem witb ICS is that there is no "set as" option when you long hold the file.it also does not show in the settings>sound>phone ringtone.

Ics passian is gone from the forums. Wtf!!!

I have no problem setting custom ringtones in ICS. Go into the contact hit the three dots in the top right corner and then hit set ringtone.

Ringtones should go in sdcard/media/audio/ringtones then they will show up

Anyone read the OP and other posts after. The "media" folder option in the sd card does not work. Nor does the long hold, set as option.

I didn't say "media" smartass I said "media/audio/ringtones" put mp3's in that folder. Or you can put .ogg files in system/media/audio/ringtones( mp3's may work in that folder but I am not sure I haven't tried )
Then to set the ringtones go to system settings -> Sound -> Phone ringtones

Yeah dip****. You really wanna start that game!? I put "media" just to shorten the whole thing. Still doesnt work.

I'll post a screenshot even I get home. I'm on the galaxy nexus but its vanilla ICS just like you guys have so they should all be the same...

the three dots are our menu button so if by some chance you don't have the three dots try hitting your menu button and see if you get that menu...

I was also trying to figure this out. I did what was suggested but it didn't come up in my list. BUT...as any compuer guy will tell you...if something's odd, start with a restart. So, I restarted my phone, and bingo, it's in the list and works beautifully!

In the list that I show in the pics I posted above right?

i went from cm7 to ics and my sounds are stored on my external card on my audio folder and i didnt even have to move them....ics showed them on the sound options right away. the full adress to folder is /emmc/audio/ XXXXXX ( 2 folders in it) notifications and ringtones. try that ...

Hmm. Does anyone know how to use custom mp3 files as ringtone on ICS Passion v10.6?

TI believe some of us were looking for was a system wide, all contact ringtone.
Solution: - use some type of root browser
Drop mp3 (or ogg) into /system/media/audio/Ringtones (or notifications)
**Reboot**
System Settings - Sound - blah, blah
*** The files you put in that folder seem to not show up until a reboot is performed. Perhaps correcting some sort of index file?

I simply had a folder on my SD named "Ringtones" and added the mp3 file there.
Now your ringtone should show up under, Settings/sound/Phone ringtone.

[BOOT ANIMATION] Nvidia Tegra HIGH QUALITY

I put together a nice little Tegra boot animation using Adobe Flash. It is exported as high as it can get, that is why it is 12mb and I cannot upload it to the XDA.
DOWNLOAD HERE: http://www.mediafire.com/?3cz2o1x6131p87x
It plays at 20FPS to look a little nicer and it repeats the outer glow part. I can't remember who it was who requested this some time like a month ago, but I thought of it the other day and here it is. Enjoy

your PNG files need to be named as sequential numbers. i.e. 00001.PNG 00002.PNG etc. you can't have the "motorola nivida-xxx.png" filename type. use a program like batch file renamer to rename everything in sequence.

I think I was having the same problem at first.. Don't zip the folder containing the files up. Enter the file, then highlight all 3 files, right click, add to archive using your zip program, then set to "store" and name it bootanimation.zip. Should work after! Let me know if you have any problems with that. Looks good tho

he did do the 'store' option i think it's just his naming convention that it doesn't understand.

Of course you have to unzip the file its in ogg format and can upload it so I had to zip it...
Updated audio file since it was too low
UPDATE:
here is the atrix.ogg file in a zip to get it to work don't forget to edit the desc.txt to call it, I have the edited version just too lazy to upload since its 12 MB wont take it here, if anyone wants it pm me and I can email it
Also people with other sound ideas, give me the mp3 or wav and we can get it working for ya.

The animation or sound? The bootanimation.zip gets dropped in system/media the sound you have to edit the desc.txt to call the sound change the ext of the sound to .ogg and drop it in the /system/media too. I think I made, the volume too low. I will have to redo it .

[Q] [SOLVED] Incoming SMS notification during call

I have searched the internet a few times over the last few weeks and find only the same old, dead threads with poor solutions or seemingly good solutions which have been pulled from the market (such as app called "missed call"), and nothing new, so here goes:
It is a documented Android phenomenon: we hear nothing when a text message comes in while we're on the phone. There is no LED so glancing at the phone from time to time (I use headset) doesn't cut it. I have to try to remember to wake the screen to check from time to time and sometimes I miss time-sensitive messages.
Are there any solutions that I have missed? I don't really want to go the route of BLN, or 3rd party SMS app; I may have to I know. But I do hope there is a way to make this shiny new top-notch device do a basic thing that has been accomplished by every device I have owned since this one

Oddly enough, i never saw this before. I must have looked in the Sound settings menu 10 times. I'll try it out, thanks. If that fixes it, i wonder why it was off by default in the first place
Edit: It works, thank you.
You're welcome! I'm still very new to all this (android and the SGS2), so I'm looking around my phone, playing with it, trying to figure out things.
On a related note, do you know how to get custom alerts for text messages? I can't figure it out, and I doubt samsung took out that simple feature that's been around since I can remember.

I can see that, but I cannot use other ringtones besides what's pre-installed in the device. That is, if I want to use an MP3 music file as my SMS alert notification, I cannot add that file to the list of SMS alert notifications. Is it really like that?

Ah ok, so what you have to do is go in your "sd card" the built-in memory, not "external sd" and create a folder called "Audio". Inside here you make 3 more folders: "Alarms" "Notifications" & "Ringtones"
You put whatever you want for sms/email, etc in the Notifications folder, it should show up in the list for choosing your sms sound.
Thanks! It took me a while to get back to this thread (been really busy). It works!

Have you ever???

Have you ever had to download album art for the many songs on your sdcard, and then notice later they are not there anymore?
This is a really funny bug that I notice now and then.
Maybe it's just me but have you ever had this happen to you?
If so, what was the resolution?

The reason mine has disappeared in the past is because I go through my SD and delete folders that look like useless cache folders. Particularly the ones in /Android/data. I've learned that if I want my artwork to stay, I can't delete the "com.android.providers.media" or "com.google.android.music" folders.
If that's not why it's happening to you, then I've got no idea why it's happening.

haha, yes, many times had the issue, so I themed default art in music apk and fusion and musicwidget apk
I've been trying to figure this out also. I have use the Sense player to update album are from Gracenote it says. It works nicely, but some are wrong and some don't get any and you cannot search otherwise.
I have used Cover Art Download and it works well, but when you auto update it, the pictures are low res. If you manually select each one they will be the higher res photo.
I have used Cover Art Grabber and it allows to search, but they don't display right in the Sense HTC Music player.
All of these also have the same issue. Once I get all set to a good high res photo and the right one, I inevitably reflash and have to do it all again. The caches involved must be on the internal phone mem and not my sd. Even if I select on Cover Art Download to put the file in the folder, which is on the sd card, they do not link correctly upon reflash.
I wish I could do it once and they stay right on the card and display correctly since I reflash too much
Well I didn't delete them.
Looks like stored in folder albumthumbs.
It's like they lose there associations or something. I always change so many files and theme everything so I thought I may have been causing problem but it's way too random to track. Lol

When it comes down to it though, I'm a spaz about making sure the artwork is embedded in the mp3 before it even makes it to my SD. I use mp3Tag to edit all the metadata of my mp3's. I don't think my situation is at all the same with the downloaded artwork not showing up.
Since your an avid mod/themer, it could be due to the fact you're constantly clearing cache and dalvik.

Well you've given me a great idea.
I'll take the 10,000 + mp3s on my PC and get the album art and then transfer to my 32gb sdcard. Or at least 4-5,000 of them to keep me happy. Then I won't have an issue. I should have thought of that before.

dont know about notification pane but i know how to change the ui sounds. you need root and a root explorer to do this. if you have the stock aosp sounds you just have to rename them and replace the sounds you want in the system/media/audio/ui folder. there are 2 water sounds in that folder. one for the touch screen and the other for the capacitive buttons. their names are TW_Touch.ogg and S_HW_Touch.ogg. to replace them, rename the sounds you want to use as the water sounds. example: if you want to use a file called tap.ogg as your default touchscreen sound, just right click on the tap.ogg file, choose rename and replace its name with TW_Touch.ogg and save that. transfer your newly renamed file to the system/media/audio/ui folder but remember you have to set your file explorer to read/write to do this, reboot and youre done. do the same with other sounds you want to to change. hope that helped.
Here mate,
here you got both files you need to replace - as attach.
You just need to unrar the file and paste the 2 files in this directory: system/media/audio/ui
I changed Lock.ogg and Unlock.ogg to iphone sounds and it works perfect on stock rom!

[MOD][VZW Edition] Add all apps to multi-window build LJB

This is only for Verizon Stock with root injected
4.1.1
Build: JRO03C.I605VRALJB
Steps:
1) Please mount your system as read/write, extract the files in the attached zip file, and copy:
FlashBarService.odex to /system/app
services.odex to /system/framework
Make sure you are actually replacing the old files and not renaming them.
The proper permissions should be rw- r-- r-- on both files (thanks Sylvaria)
2) Then reboot. Shouldn't have to clear dalvik-cache...
3) (recommended) delete "/data/data/com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService" and reboot once more
Potential issues
**If your apps appear in the edit menu and you have trouble adding apps to the multi-window bar, check in your /data/data folder and see if you have a folder named flashbar. If so, delete it and reboot to see if that fixes your issue. "/data/data/com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService"
**If you cannot see the edit button on your multi-window bar, make sure your DPI is set to 320 via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35036854&postcount=108
Warning
services.odex is actually in use, so you may not be able to replace it before it reboots, which will cause you to boot loop. Just ODIN the root image again and try again. People have gotten it to be replaced after an attempt or two.
from nosit1: "This might sound extremely stupid, but when replacing services.odex (do it last of course) if you screen is on, turn it off before pushing it to your device (if using adb). "
from shelooga: "I went into a bootloop, but a battery pull fixed it, no odin required, fyi."
---
Please let me know if this works, as it works for me. If you do go into a boot loop you will have to re-flash the root ODIN image.
Tips!

Nice! Does it matter if I've uninstalled some of the stock apps?

Can some one verify that Netflix will continue to play even if you switch to the second window? Thanks.
Getting this weird issue where I can't add apps that aren't listed in the first page of apps. Like, the first 8 rows of apps add fine, but everything below that (once I have to scroll down to see them) only add apps from those first 8 rows, instead of adding the actual app I'm drag-and-dropping.
Not sure what's up.

Let say you add youtube to the top and message text to the bottom, let youtube playing some video while you switch to text, while you texting is youtube stills playing??
All the apps show up for me but it wont let me add them to the bar.

Works Great. Thanks! Loving the fasr progress being made with our device.. Just thought i would mention that after i added the seconmdf file to service.framework my device froze the second i answered yes to "already exists, wamt to replace"? After 20 seconds it rebooted and everything is silky smooth as expected. So dont freak out and throw your phone across the room. patience is a virtue. Thanks again!

Check in your /data/data folder and see if you have a folder named flashbar. If so, delete it and reboot to see if that fixes your issue.
Tried re-pasting the files over, same issue still persists. Not sure what's up at all. Pretty annoying.
I wonder if unfreezing my bloatware would make a difference? Not a big fan of doing that, though.

It still plays while I browse the internet, so it should probably work as well with messages

I posted this just before your post, see if this works for you.

Mine works as well but for some apps it does this weird thing were it drags in another app. For example I tried dragging youtube and it would always drag the app two spots above it instead.

Would love to try this, but no matter what I do I get permission denied when I try to push these files. Mounted system as r/w in Terminal Emulator, from ADB, and in Root Explorer with no success.
