How to port Nexus S ROM to the Fascinate??? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've ported a few ROMs from the Captivate & Vibrant to the Fascinate, fairly easy... I'm trying to port a ROM from the Nexus S but running into problems. Can't get it to boot, keep getting a boot loop. I'd imagine porting the Nexus S to Fascinate is pretty difficult but was wondering if anybody out there has done this and if so, could they provide any tips/hints? I'd be greatly appreciative if someone could provide any advice.

[Q] {Q} New to fascinate, familiar with Vibrant

Hey
I was wondering if anyone could do me a favor.
I have a Tmobile Samsung vibrant and I'm very used to flashing rome on it. I have mostly been able to within cam recovery because I was sticking with froyo roms and then when I upgraded to CM7 based roms I had to odin back so I became familiar with using odin and from there I have become familiar with also flashing boot loaders using odin for i-9000 based roms.
Basically what I am saying is that I am familiar with the basics of flashing roms.
A friend of mine from work has a VZW fascinate that has the most current OTA update for his phone. He wants me to help him apply a custom rom because he sees the speed advantages.
He is a light to average user so I'm looking for a rom that requires very few fixes. For my vibrant this generally means sticking with 2.2 roms, is this the same for fascinate?
Also since I have never flashed a CDMA phone I was wondering what steps would be different.
Any help would be much appreciated and I may simply just need a little basic information since I am familiar with SGS flashing
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212239 or you can replace the JT VGB with MIUI and the latest Glitch kernel.
Edit: You do not need the nexus driver use this http://www.mediafire.com/?7946i8tdbe0yv50
you flashed rome?
the entire rome?
Generally I woupld say friends don't flash other friends phones. Itopens up a world of conflict and turns you into their tech support guy rather than their friend. And god forbid something bad happens "because you flashed my phone and now it's broken".
Work with your friend and help him but he needs to learn and do the process himself. That way here is no blame and you aren't an unpaid tech support guy.
And if he's a light user, I wouldn't even introduce aosp roms. Pwgb is probably fine for him and will look more familiar.
yea I would recomend the pw ed05 rom w/ voodoo or the pw eh09 rom w/voodoo. Both are very reliable roms.

Touchwiz Free Honeycomb 3.2 For Port

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a galaxy tab 7.0 plus and was hoping to build a rom for its community (no one has really built a rom for 7.0, its a small community and we just got CWM).
Ideally I'd like to kang together a stock Honeycomb 3.2 rom, free of touchwiz. I was hoping to port over one of the Google I/O Roms for the 10.1. I figure our devices are close enough that I can try tossing over the build props, make sure to use the boot/recovery images from the 7.0 and maybe, just maybe, get lucky. Or at least have a good start.
The problem is that I can't seem to find any of the Google I/O roms, past 3.1. Do those device not get updates? Is there another Touchwiz free rom I can start from? I remembering reading a while back that TWUX is an optional update for the 10.1. I've been looking around, but I'm have a heck of a time finding links that clearly imply I'm dling a Touchwiz free rom. Most of the just say "Stock" which is a bit ambiguous.
If someone would be kind enough to point me to an ODIN and CWM mod version of the sorta rom I'm looking for I'd be greatly appreciative(and hopefully if I can get this out the door, so will 7.0 community)
Thanks!

As far as I know, the i/o tab never got 3.2. And there are no 3.2 ROMs for the GT10 without touchwiz.
Well that's no good. You wouldn't happen to know the chances using a 3.2 kernel on 3.1?

Considering that Pershoot maintains kernels for 3.1 and 3.2, I'd assume there's a difference. But I'm not a dev, just an enthusiast. I'd try PMing Task650 or one of the other ROM devs. They're more than happy to help new folks.

Help Porting ROM?

Hi guys!
So I've done a bit of scripting, mods, and I already know how to build ROMs. Im pretty comfortable with the Android OS as a whole. I've made some kernels as well.
Really though I would love to get started porting ROMs. I mainly just want to learn the process and do one since this really should be a learning experience.for me.
What helped you guys start porting ROMs? Are there are any guides availible that detail the process a bit and help first timers like me?
Thanks!
What phone do you want to port from and what phone to you want to port to? Give us more information. Help us help you.
Here is a very easy, very straightforward guide from blindndumb on porting lewaos and joyos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623464

I recently got an HTC One X AT&T.
Really I was looking to port ROMs not trying to be quick and for the community but rather for myself to learn. If I get an AOSP ROM out before someone else (like CM9 or AOKP) then by all means I will release it, but I really want to go through this as a learning process.
The HOX AT&T currently doesn't have any AOSP ports. I was looking to do more than just some file replacements to port; like I wanted to build from source, with drivers, and the full shabang.
Have you checked out the htcdev.com site for kernel source?

[Q] noob question

Hi I have a question which I have been searching the Internet for and have had no luck. So I was wondering if someone could help me.
My question is to with factory software. As my Samsung note 3 (9005) runs the Samsung touchwiz ui, could I if I rooted my phone run the stock 4.4 from the nexus 5? As I say I am a noob to this and from what I understand android is open source software so if this is the case why couldn't I do this?
Any response is a great help to me understand androids os.
Thanks
Nope, the Stock 4.4 Rom of the N5 won't run on your phone.
It is not that eaaaaasy...
But (!), you can easily head over here to start looking for some custom roms that are close to stock android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3
But before you do anything, always make a backup and read some guides carefully or your phone will may end up bricked.
Btw, if you just dont like the Touchwizz Launcher, try Nova Launcher

[Q] Using Android 4.4 kernel source/boot.img to port Android Lollipop?

Hey guys,
I'm a soon to be developer for the ZTE ZMAX(we've been putting up a fight to get the thing rooted and whatnot) and I was just wondering how to use an Android 4.4 Kernel to boot Lollipop. I'm just asking because I definitely want to get Android Lollipop on the ZMAX ported if possible, I just don't know how to make old kernels boot new roms. The most I remember is something about people saying edit he ramdisk or something, but that was literally years ago, I might be out of touch lol. I don't expect a full tutorial or anything because I know that's super time consuming, but if you could point me in the right direction, maybe someone else's tutorial or the way you learned to do it, that would be great.
P.S. - Don't worry, I spent a day googling this with no success before I posted this!
