Hey, I am posting this thread here because XDA says I'm to 'new' to post in the dev section which i find completely stupid that I have to have 10+ bs post before i can post in the dev thread even though i have years of android and ios experience the fact that I chose not to share every last detail on this forum is now effecting me when I have minor questions about my new device. Anyway straight to the point I have a new tf201 on .21 and i want to root it just like i do all my other devices.....is there a way/program to do this yet? If so please provide a link or instructions on how to go about doing so.....Thank You in advance and sorry for the rant

If you're ok with voiding your waranty, you can unlock the bootloader and flash a custom pre-rooted ROM.

It's to stop exactly what you are trying to do. If you read the big sticky in Dev Section that says "READ ME 1st" you would have seen this.
"If any mod, including myself, continue to find new threads about topics that have threads already existing or [Q] questions in the development forums!
The thread will be locked with no notice and/or up to a temp BAN!!."
Not having a go, just explaining
Not to bash the OP, but I spent many hours if not days researching how to root my prime .21, so my question to you is why should someone else post links, do the research for you?
I started with what the benefits, and negatives would be by rooting my prime. That took at least a day, then I researched the likely hood of me bricking my prime.
After I found "good cause" to root it, only then did I find a solution.....But nobody did this for me.
Let me know how it works for you to disrespect the rules up front, then ask for help to root your prime.
Back to doing the work for you....
Unlock ithttp://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...ow-to-unlock-bootloader-on-transformer-prime/
Flash CWM recoveryhttp://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...orkmod-recovery-5-8-2-0-on-transformer-prime/
Now flash a pre rooted ROM...(I trust you can find that yourself, or do I need to tell you which rom to install)

first downgrade firmware to .15 and then root
You can downgrade your firmware to .15 and then root it
Use Voodoo rootkeeper and upgrade to .21
Pm me if you need any help
Hey Sam,
Is there any disadvantage to unlocking and installing a custom rom vs downgrading and rooting then upgrading?
or does the voodoo rootkeeper not unlock the device so warranty still intact?
Thanks
K

to downgrade do you need to unlock?
can you even downgrade with asus blob?
i thought it'll just tell you, you have the latest firmware and can't excute the firmware(.15) you want it to do
correct me if i'm wrong, =D
please tell me that i'm wrong as i needed to send my tab to RMA
so no more root ;-;
My understanding is you can't downgrade the firmware without unlocking. So for those of us who are on .21 who want root without unlocking it isn't currently possible. Correct me if I'm wrong.
No need to unlock
You just need to download .15 firmware and rename it as .21 and put in on sdcard
follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492887
One downloaded root and keep root using voodoo rootkeepr...do not unlock
and dont try this method on unlocked prime, it will brick
From the post you're referring to:
Requirements: root access
Sorry but don't think your method's gonna work.

Correct, and this is confirmed by several users in that thread as well. Still need to wait for another way to root .21.
So if I have a new prime and it has .15 and I want root I should do using Viper and then install rootkeeper and then update to .21 ?

YES make sure you use rootkeeper BEFORE updating to .21 though that is what people seem to forget

Thanks for the quick reply, so If I want to unroot I can use Viper too and will i be back to stock if I wanted to return? and I saw in the viper post about recovery is that reversible if I do a firmware reset?
EDIT: just worked out you can only install CWM after unlocking so I'm not going to that stage just yet and once unlocked there is no going back so makes the recovery restore question obsolete.
No patience?? theres only one way
Whats the big deal about unlocking....
If you want your device rooted, unlock...install cwm.....flash prerooted rom....
Why so many people trying strange methods, i dont understand.
You would rather risk BRICKing your device trying to bypass the UNLOCK??
I just thinks people are odd, why not just unlock to get a root.....
or
WAIT till a root method is developed for .21....
Not everyone wants to unlock.. perfectly fine here using stock rom instead of hacked roms keep in mind if you do unlock instead of wait for a new exploit you WILL lose the ability to OTA (so then theres no need for rootkeeper obviously), so all your future updates youll have to do yourself thru CWM, not to mention your warranty

actually i dont think this is true, to downgrade you need root access... you have to run console as SU and enter some commands, unless you know a way to do it without root in which case PLEASE share!
Also, OP couldnt you find that theres no root yet just by hitting the search button? Seriously, once theres a root for .21 it will be posted everywhere...

No need for that, if you read the thread, YOU WOULD KNOW
he has already been warned by a mod.....
No need to bash him any more....
Why dont you post something useful.
The OP has already unlocked his Prime, I am helping him to get a prerooted rom on it.....
So I'm on the fence. I want to update to the 206 patch but I want to make sure I'm not going to screw myself down the road.
-Will updating to ICS through Cheesecake cause me to lose Root? (I have root backed up through VooDoo Rootkeeper)
-Will I be able to upgrade to future ICS Releases as they become available (or the official ICS if it gets released within our lifetime)?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
I'm pretty sure, based on how you asked your questions, that you've read the answers over and over. Why are you asking? If you haven't read the answers, go read the threads above and below this one, because they both have both answers.

I've read the answers to my questions go both ways. I've read that people lost root and did not lose root and you can get OTAs and you can't and all that, so I'm asking, hoping to get an answer from someone who tried it already or may shed some light on the issue. Like I said, any input is appreciated.

Im on the 203 leak and yes you can restore root with ota.
However, i have not been able as of yet to update to any other leak. Ill know more about whether i can update through ota when it gets released.

As in most cases that involve modifying your phone beyond what is possible with a stock device, if you have to ask, then you probably shouldn't do it.
A bit of a nooby question, but I've never come across it or had to do it before.
I know I could flash a custom ROM but nothing quite stands out just yet, waiting for S3 USA release. There should be a lot more action on the ROM side then.
But at the moment I'm on stock, rooted and woke up with an update on my phone yesterday. From what I've read there's 2 updates 1 after the other and 1's a new kernel. I'd rather not update and root again if there's a simple way of removing the update e.g. like say delete a file from somewhere. After all my phone's running 100% as is.
Anyone know the answer? Its bugging me now, you can only perspone it for 3 hours at a time.
If I don't get rid of it by tomorrow I'm going to reaserch if i can just update over a rooted stock ROM. Find out about the new kernel build make sure I can root after updating and reluctantly update.
Thanks in advance
Marc

Hi mate
I have the same problem and can't get rid of the OTA update available message, if you find a solution then please post.
Many thanks!!
download the 'update' from sammobile.com it's the LF2 rom, install with mobile odin and tell it to keep root.... problem solved
I just used titanium backup to delete the updater. Seems to be working fine for now.
Hello. I may be repeating some other threads, but I could not find the answer. Is there a one click or other method to root a CDMA Motorola Droid Razr after update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2? The phone has never been rooted before.
Thanks guys!
+1 I'd like to know too, just in case. My phone is rooted I just want to know if I botch the install I can still get root.

Not yet.
I hope they find a root method soon. I bricked mine on the leak, and had to reinstall it, losing root in the process. You never realize how great root is until its gone lol.

Yeah, I lost root access when I did a manual flash update via the SD card and the leaked image...and the root method mentioned on androidgadgetmatic (I would post link but im a new member) is not working in any way...If there is any help anywhere that would be awesome....I kinda need root to live...

Lol, I feel the same way. Don't worry, I'm sure one of the awesome devs on this side will figure something out. They usually do, lol.

There is a fix for those who were rooted and lost root during the update....
It is in this thread somewhere (sorry I don't have time to find it) You had to heve Voodoo OTA rootkeeper to start out with for the utility to work.
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...original-verizon-droid-razr-how-to-keep-root/
I'll keep browsing through what is or isn't compatible. Perhaps one of our amazing Dev's is already on this. Can't imagine it will be long
sicne you cant flash back to ics no, i voodoo'ed before i came over to JB and when when i checked root on JB with rootchecker from the app store it said it wasn't rooted, but titanium back up and other rooted apps said that the device was rooted properly. i ment to test it some more and make sure i was really rooted

If you backed up root with voodoo and went to jb then use matt's root fixer to get root working properly again

I am in need of the same answer. Thanks for asking it.
If you were not rooted before updating to JB then there is no way (yet) to root JB.
I have to ask... Why would someone who was not rooted suddenly decide they needed root after updating? I can understand if you lost root due to being one of the ones that did get the OTA but why all of a sudden decide you need root.
Thread moved. Please post all questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks

I am in the same boat as the OP so I will provide my reasoning for wanting root now.
This new stock JB load now forces a check against your verizon account when you attempt to turn on any form of tethering. This includes the builtin wireless hotspot AND unfortunately FoxFi wifi/bluetooth. So as of right now I went from an excellent mobile internet connection to share with my Asus TF700 tablet to now having no internet sharing capability.
Grrrrrrrrr......
I followed the thread's instructions above by using voodoo rootkeeper. (droidrzr - Matt's post: New JB update how to keep root)
When you are following Matt's instructions, DO NOT FORGET to update SU binaries. Do this before you protect root, then use voodoo to protect root, temp unroot. Then Protect root, then temp unroot AGAIN. Finally, PROTECT ROOT before you actually flash the update.
Worked for me like a charm. Now im trying to make a JB-leak rom

Unfortunately I got the true ota and thought it was an ICS update. So I didn't see the thread about the binaries so lost root and pulling my hair out till new root method comes out or I save enough for an S3 which ever comes first

same happened to me. Heard some of the devs are working though
Don't expect a quick solution for this from djrbliss...it is not likely to be coming soon.
Nobody else of his caliber is working on root exploits for Motorola devices unfortunately, and very few people understand the value and uniqueness of his contribution to the Motorola community.
He has rooted every Motorola device since the D3 and everyone who has used a rooted Motorola owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
Just sayin'...
I too lost root after my Jelly Bean update. Unless there is a better thread to keep my eye on, I'll keep my eye on this one for a rooting method for my RAZR XT912. If I hear of anything somewhere else, I'll come back here and let people know. I hope others will do the same.

First i would like to say i don't have this phone. But i was wondering if a sbf file could be put together like the one that is used to downgrade the D3. I don't know if this could be done from JB>ICS or not but i thought it might be worth a look. Droid 3 downgrade sbf
So I just got the N2 and the latest OTA was applied to it. I've been all over these forums and I can't seem to figure out if I can just root the phone with a stock rooted ROM via Odin or some other method. I know unlocking the bootloader isn't possible as of right now, which is fine, I just need to root so I can use rooted apps. Does anyone know if this can be done?
(Been lurking for months now, successfully rooted/ROMed my old TBolt but have finally registered with this being my 1st post-Hope I'm within the forum rules boundaries)
Good question, and I have posed that one as well. I had to purchase a replacement phone and the rep did the OTA without me knowing it so now I am sitting here idly waiting for something to break or word to come down from on high.
Yes you can using odin and the root66 image. It will inject root your bootloader will remain locked... for now.
