I just flashed the speedmod kernel and loving it. I thought that speedmod kernel is a rooted kernel but doesnt seem so. So how do I obtain root but I wanna retain the speedmod kernel?OR is there another kernel that improves battery performance like speedmod?

U can flash it again or install superuser from market.
If u can't use apps then, ur phone is really not rooted.
But the apps just asking for permissions,so it just can be the missing superuser

Installed superuser from the market and its showing an empty list so clearly my phone is not rooted.
In the thread it suggested to flash Chainfire's kernel then flash Speedmod again, going to do that now

Hmm crazy.
1) U tried to flash via odin?
2) If also doesn't root device, reflash ur Rom.
Think there must be a fold in system then, which let not root.
Go in "mount & storage" and format system there. Then flash Rom again.
If also no luck u have to wipe all!
But think with a clean system and reflash rom, at least it should work.
Much success!

flash speedmod kernel Via odin
then go CWM .. full wipe .. full format Pull battery out .. pull battery on go to Download mode " without reboot "
flash rom 3 pda csc phone :S but i dont know what does pit so forget that ...
then when odin finsh flashing ... go to dailer *2767*3855# .. factory will reset .. waiting when done then go to recovery mode .. wipe cache Wipe factory >reboot > flash kernel via odin .. inshallah will work
why are you bumping a 5 month old thread for that?

On TeamCooper Omega romv2 and wondering what was quicket way to get to unrooted status so I can get it compared? I was thinking Cm7, to stock Gingerbread and then unroot?
reflash stock rom. to make sure, reset to factory setting.
reflash stock rom with odin
if thats what u mean
and i think its unroot.zip file in sticky guide in development section
If your motive for unrooting is to get your phone to service centre, you also should flash stock recovery -- also available somewhere in development section.

No, I meant flashing stock using ODIN. You don't need to have recovery or a custom rom, just access to download mode.
If you flash stock rom with odin, your mobile will be back to the state it was when you bought it... no root access and no custom recovery
Hi all,
I have a i9100P (with NFC) and it is stuck at the boot screen with the yellow triangle after I installed CWM using this method here:

I can still enter Download mode and even the installed CWM, but i cannot boot into android, its just stuck on the screen
I have searched on the internet for a solution, and i cannot find a solution for this
would installing a new ROM via an SD card work? What shall i do?
HELP me PLS!!

That's your problem. You were on 4.0.3, which is ICS.
The instructions at galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/ don't specify, but they are for Gingerbread ONLY. The recovery kernel contained within that zip package is ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4, which is for Gingerbread.
This thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693) is the updated version of that recovery kernel for ICS.
You don't have to flash the full firmware, just flash a kernel that is meant to work with ICS and you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice - but i already have the stock ROM on an SD card so i think i will flash this. Problem is i cannot get CWM to read from the external SD card, so i cannot locate the zip and install it - help?
EDIT: if i install the kernel you gave me the link to ([KERNEL][ICS] ClockworkMod Recovery 5.5.0.4) , will it remove the root access i had?
EDIT 2: I have just flashed the kernel via odin, and it finally got past the screen with the yellow triangle! However, it is now stuck on the second screen which shows the 'S' logo with the words 'Samsung Galaxy SII' under it. Any more ideas?

Never the less i will try your suggestion, so should i basically mount usb from CWM, then copy the firmware over to the phone, unmount, and then wipe, and then flash it finally?
EDIT: it wont allow me to mount USB in CWM
can i just flash the ZIP using odin in download mode, or does it have to be a .tar file?

No. That download is for a package that must be flashed while the phone is in download mode. That will require you to use a computer, and a flashing tool, such as Odin or Heimdall.

Well I think Chainfire's CF-Root kernels (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399) are not for i9100P, so not sure if he can achieve permanent CWM recovery. Anyway if he don't plan to flash every hour new ROM he should be fine with latest temporary CWM 6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840223 although will ask Phil about compatibility.

your link says you have two files. cwm and busybox. did you install both?
even if you have stock recovery, its not an issue as long as you're rooted. If you're going to install a custom kernel, you'll get a custom version of CWM anyways.
i tried going back to my original provider rom and got bricked.
i don't understand why ?
both are ICS ...
anyway i think i got now soft brick(?) i dont have access to CWM but i can go to DOWNLOAD MODE
and cant write to NAND .
i used odin to burn a kernel , but that is as far as it goes, i cant burn the ROM.
but vie odin i can write i think any kernel in PDA.

I think you have a corrupted nand... first try to flash a good pit file (remember to tick re-partition), and start by flashing a stock rom to the handset, does that not help, then you have a hardware failure

No need to flash stock rom.
Just flash Siyah kernel (.tar) via ODIN (This will give you custom recovery) then wipe data and flash custom rom of your choice. It will come pre-rooted and with its own custom kernel which you can then replace with Siyah again or other kernel of your choice.

when u have problem like this the best way is to flash a 'Stock ICS v4.0.3' firmware on ur phone using 'ODIN' to have a clean flash and booting of ur phone
then u can simply flash the tar version of 'Siyah kernel v4.1.5/5.0.1' again from 'Odin' in dwnld mode to automatically root ur phone and install latest CWM recovery, which can be used to install the custom rom of ur choice

And that is exactly what has been advised. What's your point?
The user only has access to download mode so is assuming he has to use download to flash rom. It sounds like he isnt aware that he can easily restore his recovery via flashing a kernel. It also sounds like the user wants to use a custom rom otherwise he would already know that he can flash stock via download.
This is why its been advised to flash kernel via download instead of rom. That way once he has his recovery back he can simply reboot into cwm and carry on where/how he wishes like for example flashing his normal/preferred rom via zip like usual.
Read this thread again and see if he can actually perform a kernel flash just to get to cmw so he can go flash a stock rom.
Here's the answer: yes he could.
now...wouldn't it be better if he flashes a stock rom, take a long breath as he realizes he's not bricked (read the topic) and then flas a stock rom when he's sure about giving it another try?
read beyond the words kid, beyond the words
TheATHEiST said:
No.
He has no reason to flash a stock rom unless he specifically wants a stock rom. If he does then yes he can simply flash stock rom as normal but its my guess that he wants a custom rom since he was asking how he can flash a ZIP.
If that is the case then flashing a stock rom (.tar) would be a complete waste of time and it would be much quicker to simply flash kernel like Siyah and reboot into recovery and then even restore a backup if he has one or just flash a rom zip from card.
Oh and stop trying to sound patronizing, I'm 30 years old and no "kid".
@ OP
If you want a stock rom then read one of teh many topics we already have on stock roms/how to flash them.
If you want to use custom ones via cwm then simply flash Siyah kernal and then reboot into recovery and then do as your normally would.
