I'm trying to get my rezound mobile hotspot. It keeps trying To connect and disconnecting. I'm Trying to trouble shoot it but idk if its a common issue or some thing.

I had alot of wifi trouble with CM7 alpha 2 and 2.1, but since updating to 3 its been rock solid.
Not sure how the Xron build compares in this dept. Do they take the CM7 3.5 and then edit it?

So I fixed my wifi issues. Just used wifi buddy and it fixes all my wifi problems lol

Anyone know if the Moto Bionic can be used for a Hotspot for the Touchpad? I had the Droid Inc before this and it did not work with that phone.

And the issues are back. Haven't modified anything and it stopped working. I think I've grown to strongly dislike this tablet. If only the galaxy tab had a sd slot.

The tablet is a fantastic device! However i do feel your pain with the wifi issues but this is still beta!
I've found that changing the channel on my wifi appears to limit the disconnects quite a bit.
Currently running on channel 4 2.427 Mhz but have read a lot of ppl running channel 10 so will test that out if i get more drops
Hope this helps

Thanks for the tip. But instead of Frisbying my touchpad off the 17th floor I'm just whipping out the good old nook for work past time.

I was having issues trying to connect to the home WiFi. It would Attach just fine but as soon as the device either went to sleep or after a reboot it would fail.
I did a Google search and found a thread. They said it was the WiFi Channel If you have your WiFi Access Point set to Channels 1-5 you were fine 6-11 it would fail as I described above....
Sure enough, my was set to 11, to get away from the rest of the neighborhood.
So I set mine to 1, removed the connection from the Touchpad and re-added it and have not had a problem since.
Before I changed it, it would take forever to get it to release the connection. I just kept hitting "Wait" rather than "Force close" it would take several minutes but would eventually come up and allow me to Forget the network.

It worked

I was not having the wifi troubles that two other touchpad owners I know were having. I installed Android on both of their devices, but couldn't figure out what to do to fix it and it was making me insane. Finally, we reset all our routers to a channel below 5 and found that they all connected to wifi well, HOWEVER, I found a better solution. I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but this must be a setting I fiddled with on my TP, that the other two TP owners had not fiddled with.
Go into Wifi Settings, then click the Menu button at the bottom left (the three bars)... click Advanced then click Regulatory Domain. In my touchpad, I had clicked on the 11 Channel option. On the two touchpads that could not regularly connect to wifi, neither had a selection made whatsoever under "Regulatory Domain." After clicking "11 Channels," all three touchpads can connect to wifi with no issues AT ALL, no matter the channel.
I almost can't believe this hasn't been posted in other forums yet, because it seems to be the key and much easier than setting every router you want to connect to, to a different channel.
Please let me know if this works.

WiFi dis(re)connection/dropout thread

My own experiences were as follows (on a wide variety of routers, both G and N, running anything from stock Linksys/Cisco to Tomato and DD-WRT, using no encryption or WPA2/AES):
- ALL stable CM7 releases: Completely unreliable. Would connect initially, maintain communication for maybe 1-2 minutes at best, then lose connectivity (although the icon would remain green)
- Beta 3.1: For the first time, WiFi was rock solid. Worked absolutely flawlessly.
- n86: WiFi broke again, in much the same (apparent) way as stable.
It would seem those with WiFi problems (all of us?) fall into one of two categories - those for whom WiFi worked great with the .32 kernel until n86 (that would be me, and from what I've read, several others), and those for whom WiFi *never* worked properly on .32 _until_ n86, who now work flawlessly.
Is this a reasonable assumption? If so, I would guess this change:
Don't renew the leases if mDhcpInfo.leaseDuration is not positive
actually made things better for some and worse for others.
Anyone else with thoughts on this? The inability to maintain connection long enough to even copy a few hundred meg video over Samba is frustrating to no end - especially when, for a brief but glorious time, it was perfect!
Rodney
I own two NC and one is on n86 and the other is running Phiremod 6.3 which is Cm7 based with zero wifi issues
I've seen one WiFi issue:
My WiFi graphic indicator would show only the lowest signal strength. I have no idea if the signal is that bad, or it's just a bug.
I've not seen any disconnect issues.
In fact, my Nook Color has been more reliable with WiFi than my iPad 2!
I've connected to public WiFi, WiFi routers running stock Netgear, Tomato, DD-WRT, etc. No issues.
I've mostly ran the CM7 nightlies. I've used a little of Phiremod and Stock, but by far the nightlies.
I have this problem currently on both of my nooks running n87. its been happening for me since .32. weird thing is, it only seems to happen on my wifi, when i go to work and connect its all fine, or if i steal my neighbors wifi its fine too. but if i connect to my home wifi, it connects for 1-2 mins, then disconnects me but still shows that im connected. i even replaced my netgear router on stock firmware(i did try updating it) to a linksys that im currently using dd-wrt on and its still happening.
Have you tried N86+ with the OC Kernel and WiFi update?
Homer
What is this "wifi update" you speak of?
WEP works every time for me. Anything WPA protected is hit or miss.
I have a NC running CM-N86 and no WiFi issues.
Also, I my coworker's NC running CM-N87 doesn't have any WiFi issues either...
1) I have been running CM7 since it has been available. I have not once seen problems with WIFI. At home I have a linksys WRT54G router running DD-WRT using WPA2.
2) you posted in the wrong area. This should be in the CM7 user thread or the general forum area.

CM7 Nightly - NO issues with Wi-Fi. Use it everywhere Wi-Fi is available...
i actually only have issues when i'm connecting to wpa2 enterprise. after disconnecting and trying to reconnect, the credentials no longer work. i have to delete and recreate it every time.
i'm running nightly 87 w/ oc kernel on emmc.
No wifi issues here either. No matter what I connect to.
Also... this should be in general... not dev section...

Yeah, I'm running 5/23 and I still have wifi issues on my home router (D-Link with WPA2-PSK).
Oh well.
re: general vs. dev...I respectfully disagree. I submit there _was_ a change in behavior, in the negative, for some users beginning with n86...and that is most definitely a -development- concern.
Rodney
The issue relies in the type of security and if you are using Aes or tkip. I have confirm this changing my router settings. The problem is that if I get my setting for the nook, tgen I have to reboot the router almost daily for my phone to connect.
I'm on nightly-87, Dal's 1.2GHz OC Kernel 5/23, and I'm experiencing something very similar. I went from 7.0.2 to N87 without a hitch, but I immediately started to see the WiFi icon go gray and lose it's connection. I was forced to restart WiFi as a remedy. As of today I'm getting something closer to what you're talking about; when WiFi turns on, the nook will infinity cycle through: disconnected->connecting->disconnecting->scanning. I've wiped Cache, Delvik-cache many times to no avail. Also tried re-flashing N87 and the OC Kernel, which did not work. I'm still not able to connect to my home network(netgear, WPA). But, after enabling/disabling airplane mode, I was able to connect to my LG vortex and obtain the interbuttz.
The last time I did a fresh install was around N20 something. As far as possible causes to this erratic and ethereal bug, my money is on certain update paths for both the OS and Kernel having different remnants. Example: with 87 different experimental OS installs and, to a lesser degree, the three different stable OS installs. There are technically !90 different upgrade paths. Compounded by being paralleled by kernel installs, but I believe when a kernel is updated the former is completely replaced instead of merged. I'm not calling out the Dev's, it would be nearly impossible to foresee and head-off all of the permutations of merging 87+ releases.
I'm no expert, just my two-cents. I'm not really concerned about this as a long term bug. There are fine people hard at work, and unfortunately have far more pressing issues to contend with. It's a sad reality that community driven projects, notably the nook Color, rarely reach maturity or complete/efficient hardware-software integration before the allure and newness of a product wares off.
As a consumer of .rockbox, a Linux based OS for G5.5 ipods and below, Of which I've been using for years and years. And, I would say it's just now becoming 'perfect', even with it's lack of support for many peripheral devices. I'm long term with my gadgets.
I'm rambling now.
Hope this helps to narrow down symptoms and possible causes.
I love spending time on a post, just to realize after it was posted that I was typing in the wrong thread reply tab. Oh well. Que Sera, Sera.
I have the reverse experience of the OP.
I never had any problems with Wifi ever, until the .32 test builds, when Wifi would stop without notice, requiring a disconnect/connect. This caused me to go back to a .29 stable.
Perhaps what the OP is suggesting is that the change, that was reversed, should be a toggle/option, rather than changed and then changed back.

[Q] Wifi Disconnecting (GSB3.7)

I just got the thing and it came with GSB3.6 and it had SO many problems i put 3.7 on there and most where fixed, but my wifi disconnects every 15 seconds or so. any known fixes?
EDIT: Tried OMFGB, Same problem. i hope its fixable. someone help meeee
Check Settings, Wireless & networks, Wi-Fi settings, then tap Menu and Advanced. Change the 'sleep' policy (try "Never") and see if it continues disconnecting.
I would like to think that the default setting, "When screen turns off" does not kick in when there's an active connection...
I've used GSB v3.7 (Odex) with my WiFi without any problems.
Based on the fact that you observe the same symptoms with two different dev ROMs, I would suspect that the problem is either (a) your WiFi hardware, (b) your WiFi router, or (c) a software incompatibility between your WiFi router and the Eris' device driver (very similar from ROM to ROM).
You could try installing a completely stock ROM, for instance the
[ROM] HTC Eris March 2011 OTA Stock ROM - v2.41.605.6
(Note that although this ROM is "completely stock" and "not rooted", flashing it does not touch your recovery boot, so you treat it just like any other dev ROM).
Running this test - if you still experience the problem - will exonerate any Eris dev ROM, and you have a couple of options at that point:
- see if your WiFi router has a firmware update available (router firmwares contain bugs, too). I have experienced incompatibilities with the Eris which were solved by flashing WiFi routers to newer firmware.
If you try that and you still experience problems, you actually still won't know if the problem is (a) or (b) - but if you take your phone to a Starbucks or other place with a WiFi hotspot available, and you still experience problems of the same nature, then it is time to suspect that the problem is "(a)" - hardware trouble with your handset.
good luck

I switched the router from duel band N to single channel G, and now i only disconnect every 45 minutes or so.
also i tried swapping routers to a diff one, and then my dads DX, his wifes Droid, nor my Eris, could connect at all, under any settings. so it seems Android has alot of issues with wifi? anyways, i still disconnect, but not enough to bother me. thanks for the replies!
as much as it might suck, you should try doing a full wipe of data/dalvik and see if it fixes the issue. i had gone from 2.4 or so up to 3.7 without doing a wipe, and eventually things started to happen (widgets would not show up for new programs). i did a full wipe and everything is working great now.
I also am having wifi issues, didn't have them til I put the gingerbread cyanogen rom on.
I will do some more trouble shooting today and see if I can narrow down some of the variables. I have a Buffalo router with WPA2 for security on it. Some have suggested the security, but then I've talked to others that have WPA2 set up and no problems.
The wifi was working previously, did a full wipe of data and dalvik when I installed. I am running 3.2 or something close to that, haven't upgraded to the most recent version yet.
SO. Theres my info. But I love the rom and won't get rid of it, even if it is the rom.
My husband is fine just running 3G.
i have a linksys wrt54g running ddwrt using wpa2 with no problems, gsb 3.7 on my eris.

In general, WiFi compatibility from clients to APs is far worse than most people expect; I've experienced interop problems with all sorts of gear. It is hard to draw general conclusions, as the results you get are highly dependant on specific hardware models & firmware versions.
About the only generality that can be stated is this: the more bells and whistles you enable on the AP, the more likely it is you will experience a problem.
FWIW, my GSB 3.7 Odex Eris seems to work flawlessly with a Linksys WRT54G with WPA2. I think I have multiband (A/B/G) turned off in favor of G-only.
cheers

Yeah I wouldn't say that either. I've had my Inc for a year, never had any problems with it, and like I said before this rom, no problems with wifi.
I also have an android tablet. No problems with stock.
So clean install with 3.7, did data wipe and cache, first thing I did was try to get wifi going, all it does is scan. Entered my SSID and everything. Says it's not in range. Bah.

[Q] solutions for wifi connection problem

HTC Amaze stock rom;
it seems have wifi connection issue at home: after wifi connected, few mins later, wifi still shows connected, but no internet activities were allowed;
see people has similar issue on other sites, does anyone have a solution for it?
also the connection speed went to 1Mbps for no reason. the router should be good, has ipad and desktop PC wirelessly connected all the time, didn't see any kind of drop or anything.
will ICS release to fix this? does anyone know? ROM issue? thanks
I still have the issue with ICS. But I'm using a Custom Rom, Energy to be exact. I had the WiFi issue with this phone since day one. It connects fine but certain times it will show a connection but no data will come through. My wife has the GS2 and she has great WiFi connection all the time. So I'm not sure where the issue lies. I'm also using a TPU case and a Trident Aegis Case at times.

Labiker, do you have the latest stock ICS release from football? It's in the dev forums. I don't have WiFi issues, but I recommend testing your WiFi on other networks see if you have the same issue if you haven't tried that already. And in my opinion I would say stay away from energy ROM It's known to have WiFi issues when some sort of update is released for it I would probably try it out again. I would honestly stay away from revolution also until we get some new updates. I'm currently running the latest ics ruu stock and everything is smooth but I'm going to be trying eclipse ROM soon the speed ROM because I've been having the itch to flash something new.

Amaze 4G sucks with WiFi and Bluetooth
I am on phone number 10 in the course of 11 months. I have had known issues I found; I have also found issues between T-Mobile and HTC. I've been through the Sensation about six times. That was replaced with the Samsung Galaxy Amaze...which was totally incomparable in specs. Then I was given the Amaze. Found many known issues...with WiFi (which is what I want to use...and especially using WiFi with Bluetooth. I get garbled incoming sound (sometimes the outgoing sound is at the same time audible to the recipient). I find that I get calls garbled constantly, or worse...completely dropped. I live in a metropolitan-suburban area where I get 4G signals. Additionally, I've found information on the internet about T-Mobile and Metro PCS having incompatible systems, which exacerbates the garbling and call drops. I have a very high-end router, on which no other devices have any issue...and the signal strength dot with concentric circles goes up to the full three and down to just the dot...and that's independent of how close I am to the router (again, no problems with any other WiFi devices). As I said, it's worse when the Bluetooth radio and WiFi are on simultaneously. I've had occasional success holding the phone in my hand...about two feet from any of my five high-end Bluetooth devices...it won't usually work if I have it in my pocket...three feet away. I've spent 53 hours on the phone with T-Mobile (I keep very good notes) and 17 hours on the phone with HTC. I'm running ICS 4.0.3. Both have said since May that "they" were working on the problem and expected a resolution in a week or two. Now HTC's relationship, per trusted sources, is disintegrating and neither has done anything...rendering my 10th phone useless to me. I'd rather go back to my Windows 6.1 AT&T Tilt phone, at this point. And three times, T-Mobile's "customer service" calls of 1-1/2 hours each, didn't even put any notes on the account. Caveat emptor...
I think your issue is related to software not hardware because you get constant bars right? Just no data sometimes? A lot of times its the router that needs refreshing I have noticed as well and I am running a Linksys e2500. I would try something like speedrom never recall it giving me WiFi issues. So don't put down the device without giving it a shot is all I am saying.

Help - Anyone else have to toggle wifi after leaving phone idle to get data to work?

I'm so frustrated not sure what to do about it anymore. If I let me phone site idle anywhere from 10 minutes to 1+ hour. I will wake the phone it will show wifi is connected but there is no connectivity. No matter what app I go into, browser, slacker radio, play store etc. Nothing will load cause it can't connect. I have to toggle wifi widget off & back on before it will work again. The problem is intermittent as far as when it acts up but it usually does multiple times a day. It did it on stock rom, now stock with goodies 1.79 also just tried this method here but same issue. I have not updated my radios yet cause I don't want the new hboot but I might just update it to see if it will fix the issue.
Does anyone else run tomato firmware? My wifi router & home router both use tomato firmware so I'm not sure if it's just an issue with this or what. The same issue also happens on friends evo LTE at work. Tomato is some of the most rock solid firmware I have had and never had an issue like this with any other device or phone. Evo3D worked perfect and the orginal evo. I have tried everything I can think of to get it working from settings it to 2.4 only to replacing the settings apk nothing helps. I have no idea what to do about it anymore I have tried averting I can think of.
I guess I could try flashing different firmware on the router but I'd rather not. Does anyone else here run Tomato firmware 1.28 that could report if they have this issue or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone run tomato firmware or have this issue?

I have the problem. Don't think it is the router, since none of my other wifi devices have this problem, including my OG EVO. Tried a few of the fixes on the forum; so far, nothing's worked. I ended up using Llama to turn off my wifi when I'm at home and my screen is off, and turn it on when I'm at home and my screen is on; this way, my wifi is always cycled when my screen turns on.
Have not updated to the 2.13 firmware yet, though, since I'm waiting on some of the ROMs to get updated.
well I was just stating it is a known issue with routers in general, my father has a great internet connection, his brand new top of the line laptop has the exact same issue, my cousin's tablet on my dads router, same issue, he has wireless cameras for security, same issue, every time I go visit him, I power cycle his router and release all dns leases for good measure, My old (ancient by todays standards) Dell Inspiron laptop from 2000 runs Ubuntu with a work around that allows me to use windows firmware as a means to enable wireless, it reports a 2MB connection almost all the time and on his network, my dusty old wireless b/g runs circles around his spanking new wireless n laptop, the network manager used by Ubuntu will automatically disconnect and reconnect when ever this issue come up
edit: I just remembered stock has an issue when you enable best performance from wireless menu, something to check on
Thanks for some feedback, what I don't get this was never an issue with my 3D or my original evo. I'm running WPA2 AES at home and WPA TKIP at work. Exact same problem. Why is it only an issue with this phone and never had an issue with the other phones? I could use lama I suppose but I would rather not it should work correctly. I don't have any problems with any other device. I haven't seen any feedback on this issue except for now from you guys. I would have to think it isn't affecting that many people and I can't be the only one using WPA. I really don't wanna knock it down to WEP but it seems like there is no way to fix it. Since I have an office job and at home during the evening it's extremely frustrating to pick up your phone multiple times a day and nothing works. I guess I could try a different router or firmware but it has to be an issue with the phone have ran this router for years with lots of different devices and it's never had an issue.
I was never this frustrated with the original evo or the 3D. I have no idea how to fix this issue or where to even go from here. I'm seriously considering dumping this and getting a GSIII and I have been very loyal to HTC but between this wi-fi issue that I can't get rid of, the lame ass htc dev s-on restrictions and the horrible multi-tasking I'm really starting to dislike this phone. If I could fix this stupid wi-fi I could live with the other stuff. The only thing I haven't tried is updating my radios from the latest ota cause I didn't want the new hboot.

I wonder if it's something with the router then. Like I said I run Tomato on a WRT54GL at home & a WRT54GS at work. All 3 of our models are very similar hardware wise. I was thinking about trying DD-WRT which I don't really care for I prefer tomato. I don't really want to replace my router for 1 phone when everything else works perfect on the network. I even have three 3M-50 wifi thermostats hooked up at work and one 3M-50 at home. Even those have been rock solid no connection issues what so ever just this stupid phone.

I wonder if it's an issue with the aftermarket firmware but I just have never had issues on any other devices. I wonder if there is settings I could tweak to make it go away but I wouldn't know which settings to change.
Its the fact the wpask, tkip and other advanced encryptions are very broad standards, the hardware supports it but how well if supports it is the problem. Some routers implement the protocols in a very different way then others.
I.e. broadcom vs atheros, many atheros chipset fully support all standards while broadcom uses more proprietary implementations

This has been a big issue with desktop Linux, I wouldn't be surprised if the issue stands with android as well

Its the fact the wpask, tkip and other advanced encryptions are very broad standards, the hardware supports it but how well if supports it is the problem. Some routers implement the protocols in a very different way then others.

Maybe it's time to just upgrade my routers. It just pisses me off I have used tomato for years without any issues on any device.
It happens, not much you can do about it. There's a whole consortium of these guys, you think the standards wouldn't be so lax. Then again they are still arguing about the new widi (yes thats a thing now) standards

I updated my radios and went to mean rom 3.9 and updated to 4 tonight. So far it has been much better. I have only had to toggle it once but I haven't had that much time to test so will see how this week goes.

I will say it has been much better, but not completely cured. Probably had to toggle twice in three or four days.
Well I have given the new radios a good run and I have to say the issue is pretty much cured. I have only had it happen one time and I'm not sure if my router just glitched or I didn't wait long enough. So I am very happy with the new radios & mean rom the phone has been rock solid. I was seriously considering getting rid of it because I couldn't stand the wi-fi dropping all the time it really made for a very poor experience. Yes I had to upgrade the hboot to upgrade the radios but I'm not gonna wait forever for s-off and I really don't think it's that big of deal. Mean rom now has an s-on kernel installer that automatically does it now so it really isn't any different. So anyone having trouble make sure you upgrade your radios see if it helps.

[Q] Jelly Bean causes my router to reboot...

I've tried a few different versions of CyanogenMod 10, included the latest SD card img from succulent and it reboots my DLINK DIR-655. This is really odd as it's the only device to do this. When I run the stock B&N software (1.4.3) it works fine (also CyanogenMod 7 worked fine too). This is extremely annoying and means I can not use Jelly Bean on my Nook until I find a solution to this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!
There is no reason I can think of that would cause your router to reboot simply by running a jb rom...
Do you have logging enabled on the router to see why it's rebooting? I've never had any issues with my Netgear router running jb. Both my NT and Skyrocket are running 4.2.2 with no adverse effects.

I'm having the exact same problem with the same router (DIR-655 HW:A4 FW:1.35NA).
So far the only remote luck I've had is change WPA2 Encryption to TKIP, instead of TKIP/AES. Forcing it to TKIP seems to have fixed the problem, but I've only tested it for about 15 min so far.
Strange thing is, when I first loaded CM10.1 onto my Nook Tablet, I didn't have any router reboots for quite some time, like about an hour... then the rebooting started happening.
Anyway, let me know if forcing TKIP works for you.

Thanks for the info. However, I actually think the problem is the router itself. It's either going bad or overheating since it's in a cabinet under the TV. It's now starting to reboot when my laptop (Lenovo T-510) wakes up. This never happened. I'm going to move it to a cooler location and see what happens, or I'm just going to bite the bullet and purchase new router soon.
Still, I'd like to know how your experiment works out.

So it looks like TKIP stopped my router from rebooting, but I soon realized not all my devices supported TKIP, a couple were AES only. My final solution was to create a guest network that was TKIP and the main network as AES. Now I use the guest network for my Nook and everything else in the house uses the main network. Everything has been up and running for a couple hours now without any router reboots.
