Nook Color Vs. Nook Tablet? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Anyone who has previously owned a Nook Color and tinkered with it and currently had a Nook Tablet, I am curious as to see what your thoughts and comparisons are. I recently sold my Nook Color and will most likely soon be getting a nice new Nook Tablet and am curious as to see what everyones thoughts on the Tablet are. Hows the device running compared to the Nook Color?

As far as a user experience goes, I cannot pass judgement on either of them but I do know that the hardware on the Nook Tablet is vastly superior to that of the Nook Color...
Not sure if that's the answer you were looking for. Sorry if it isn't :S

I own a Nook Color and did play with a Nook Tablet. Love the extra speed of the Nook Tablet, especially video playback.
Nook Color is more restrictive; i can't play all of the HD video that I can download off of YouTube to my computer.
In the end, I rather go with a $130 Nook Color refurb from eBay over the Nook Tablet. I flashed CM7 and never plan on going back. Until CM7 or CM9 is rock solid on the Nook Tablet, I don't want to gamble with the Nook Tablet.
My fear is that B&N will update the bootloader making it impossible to go back to an older OS version.

Tablets, tablets, tablets what to choose?

Hi guys i am looking to get a tablet for my wife for the holidays. its almost black Friday and there are so many on sale out there. My local shopko has the Coby MID7015 on sale for $99. I did some research and it looks like after some root work i could hav netflix and android maket working on this just fine. Is this my best bet for under 100? any one had/have one of these? any info would be great.
I was android tablet shopping about a month ago and I looked at a lot of different ones. Budget and premium were considered but it boiled down, for me, which one was going to be best supported now and in the future, along with build quality.
The nook color is what I went with and I got mine the weekend before the price drop (got my adjustment).
It is double what you want to spend but you can use the stock ROM, install Cyanogenmod, MIUI or even Ubuntu and these are easier to install than a desktop OS.
The nook tablet is the same form factor as the nook color so there is and will be lots of cases for it which is nice. And the caribiner lets you personalize your nook with charms or tassels or whatever.
Not knowing you or your wife I will add the nook has nice branding behind it and is easily understood by other people what the device is.

^^ BUMP ^^
So I thought I would resurrect this thread from the depths and put the question out there again.
Which is the best Android tablet to purchase at this time?
I've had my eyes on a refurbed Motorola Xoom from Newegg. Even though it's older it still seems to be a solid performer.
The Asus Transformer line has caught my eye. Love the idea of begin able to turn it into a netbook.
Suggestions from the community?

CM7 TouchPad or CM7 NookColor?

I have a CM7 Nook Color, but I was thinking of picking up a $99 Touchpad. Anyone else have both and which do you prefer?
Sent from my Fresh Evo4G using xda premium
I have it on both (although just recently on the Touchpad) and I prefer it on the Touchpad. I have both overclocked and everything is much smoother on the Touchpad (ymmv). For $99 its tough to beat a dual boot webos/cm7 device.
I prefer the TouchColor it's really the best device.
I'm in the same boat and would love further input. I've seen dalingrin and others on the NC forums say the TouchPad has mostly replaced their NCs, but my main uses for the NC is as an ereader, and the 7" form factor just seems better for that.
Any feedback on Perfect Viewer on a CM7 TouchPad? No glitches/FCs there? Comics would be my main use for the extra pixels.
The touchpad CM7 is still in Aplha stage whereas the NC is about to reach CM7.2 stable. So I guess it's better with the nook

The extra pixels would be negligible I would think. Much sharper on the NC for the obvious reason of it being more dense.
The TouchColor has more GBs and the Wifis!
I have both and have pretty much retired the nook! I take it out every once and a while to literally wipe the dust off!!
I would imagine the size would be the determining factor. I really like my Touchpad but have held a Kindle Fire and the Nook Color and both smaller form factors feel just right. But then again having the dual-boot option with the beautiful WebOS is above awesome.
At $99 dollars why not just go for it and see. If you don't like it sell it.
Had a Nook Color before, loved it, but haven't touched it since putting CM7 on the Touchpad.
Alpha or not, I've had very few issues with CM7 on the Touchpad. It's a worthy replacement for the Nook Color, at least in my house.

tablet

Hello guys
i need an opinion hehehe xD
I gonna purchase this tablet:
See here the specifications:
dinodirect.com/nextbook-premium-7-google-android-tablet-android-tablet-touchscreen-tablet.html[/url]
What do you think of this tablet? Is a good tablet to play games and see movies?
Tell your opinions please.
thank you
If you want a good 7" tablet, I'd strongly recommend a Nook color or Nook tablet. I've got a color I'm trying to sell atm and from what I can tell, the color is much cheaper than what you're looking at for probably as good if not better hardware. The real difference: nook color has tons of support. Avoid offbrand android tabs.

i agree with this poster i would avoid off brand android devices due to minimal support and devs. The nook tablet in my opinion has a good community and another 7inch tablet that has a good community is also the coby kyros mate
Like the other folks have said, stay with the Nook or Kindle. There are no other models selling today that will move the total unit numbers that these two will, ensuring a long and healthy aftermarket modifications environment.

Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire

I Did this Comparison A while ago
and added it recently to our Wiki for everybody to make use of it..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/BN_Nook_Tablet#Nook_Tablet_vs._Kindle_Fire
I fixed it a little (audio formats, codecs, you forgot about the 'n' button, etc), but it needs more work..
https://nookdeveloper.barnesandnoble.com/product/nook-tablet-specs.html
Goodt job both of you i like to see my nook is superior
A blue tooth chip is also present in the NT.
Great work it will be very usefull, but also the NT has bluetooth an gps chip.

Don't know where you would put it.. Book Formats maybe. But the reason I chose the NT was for native .CBZ comic book format reading.
Hey, I did some serious revision to the wiki today... Please review as I do not have spell check on this computer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/BN_Nook_Tablet
Done.
better late than never, right?!!
@Fuzzyluzzi
are you sure about the "native .CBZ comic book format reading." part ??!
As a user of both
Overall I like the Nook tablet better than the Kinde Fire, but more has been done development wise as I am able to run ICS from Bl11nk on a KF. Still problems there, but making lots of progress. But then, they didn't have the problems of a locked boot loader. Since Indirect and others have gotten CMW working now, I expect progress will make rapidp strides in surpassing them.
Overall I like the Nook alot better from a better screen and removable SD card. It is going to be a KF killer once we get ICS running. May be a couple a months away, but it is going to be worth the wait. Then the grandkids get to be introduced to android on nicely priced machines.
I want to see what the Asus Transformer Prime 7" will be like. Can't wait for Quad Cores.
SK
The asus 7 inch priced at $249 is the Asus Memo 370t and not a transformer branded tablet. I am so sick of people making that assumption. As for the Nook vs Kindle debate once we will know which is better once both get a proper ICS rom up and working correctly. So until then I will not make any decisions one way or another.

Nook Tablet vs. Nook Color

I'm looking for a cheap Android Tablet and I know there are mods for both the Nook Color and Tablet, however the Tablet specifications are higher based on my searches.
My question is twofold: Is there *that* much of a performance difference between the Tablet/Color and: Which one is more customizeable (In the form of Root/Recovery/ROM development, etc.) and (ok twofold and a half!): Which would you recommend on a budget?
Thanks!
I apologize in advance if this question has been asked-I did not see it during my searches through the forums.
Performance on the 16GB Nook tablet is noticeably better than the Nook Color. I'm not sure about the 8GB, 512mb ram Nook tablet, but I'd imagine it has better performance, but a bit more limitation. With that said, development on the Nook Color far exceeds that of the Nook Tablet; its been out longer and wasn't anywhere near as heavily locked down as the Nook Tablet, which has hindered a lot of development of the Nook Tablet.
Nevertheless, despite limited developers on the Nook Tablet, the development is solid. CM7 is very stable. CM9 is also very stable, with the exception of hardware acceleration (no Netflix, not sure about HD youtube).
I'd say if you go Nook Tablet, go the full distance and get the 16GB. Or if you can wait, wait for the rumored Google Nexus Tablet that is supposed to be 7" and around $200.
it really depends on your expectations.. on a tight budget a refurb nook color for 99 is your best bet.. but i think youll have regrets so i really suggest saving up 300 get the 16gb at best buy with the geek squad warranty.
If I were to buy a tablet today..not back in nov. when I bought my NT, I would probably go with this..

Galaxy tab 2 7" running ICS. It has everything we are trying to get, plus it already running 4.0.3. at the $249 price point with expandable memory it is a
pretty nice device. I thought it was very smooth and responsive and I wouldn't have to hack it to get what I wanted. It has been fun to learn the rooting process and messing around, but in the end I wish that I would have waited if I knew this was going to be on the market so soon. I am sure it is lacking some things, but it was hard to see just by the few minutes I messed with it. Good luck deciding. One other thing for me is that I don't use BN content so the Galaxy tab at the same price is very interesting.
I worked at B&N and I can tell you by experience I would not recommend the Nook Color to anyone, and I told this to my managers- I despised it.
When Nook Tablet came out, I changed my opinion on it.
Moral of the story is, stock wise- nook tablet performs substantially better than the Nook color.
However, I cannot tell you how CM7 works on the NC.
I had a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 and I took it back. Most everything about it was fine except this: There was no option to move apps to the sd card. I tried two transfer apps from Google Play and neither of them worked. The tablet is supposed to have 8GB of storage, but after you subtract the OS and Samsung's additions, there is only a little over 4GB left.
A comment on the internet said that this transfer problem was a "feature" of ICS. If anyone knows if this is true, or if there is a way around it, I would certainly like to know.

...Interesting-I hadn't heard about the Google Nexus Tablet. I'm ultimately trying to find a tablet to play with that has decent performance under $200....(Ideally under $150, but that may not be realistic)....
...Maybe that'll make B & N push down the price of the Nook Tablet
Overstock. Com has the Nook Colors (refirbished) for $135, and the Tablet 16 Gb (also refurb) for $199. I'll got a refurb Tablet from them and it looks and works fine.
And yes, the Tablet 16 Gb is noticeably faster than the Color; both running CM7.

Yikes... NC for $135 is absolutely not worth it.

ya, I thought I saw some NC on Ebay for less than that (Like $99, and I thought that was high, but I don't admittedly know the value in relation to this price)
Go with the NT. There's one being sent to an Elite Recognized Developer who works on the binary level as we speak, so it's only a matter of time before everything gets unlocked.
