Is this a barometer - HTC Rezound

I tested on the androSensor app and it confirms that there is no barometer on our phone but I was switching batteries and I saw what looked like a barometer. Can confirm or tell me what that is? Thanks

My guess is they're service pins to short the device in some manner. Do us all a favor and take a paperclip and try the 3 possible combos to short it out and see if any of them acquire S-OFF

JTAG PINS for vibrant

hello,
Has anyone looked into finding the debug/jtag pins/port?
I have a 100% bricked vibrant here. Someone gave me. I want to start to look into it. Looking for some help.

Thanks!
What are those?
It's what you use to fix/base flash bricked phones.
How the hell did you get a 100% bricked vibrant I didnt think they existed.

Doubt it is bricked. Maybe hardware dead, but not bricked.
Unless he tested something for you that you were not willing to test.

I had one as well, but it was my fault, I clicked "repartition" on Odin. I couldn't find a fix so I exchanged it within the 14 days.

Nice. Please do. Then we can finally settle what chip is running and if there is FM hardware or not. Hope you have a nice camera! I want HUGE and close pics
BTW, what you think the odds are the usb doubles as jtag? Briefly going through all the code, I could have sworn I saw stuff related to ttyS0, baud rates and all. Maybe just need the right pinout.

Would be interesting. Im going to take the pics as soon as i can. its weekend. prob monday or tuesday.
if you think it works as TTY. Its possible. I dont see any pins on the boards. Thats why i asked.
JTAG and serial console are different things. jtag won't show in the kernel, it is a physical set of pins for direct access to the cpu and/or flash.
The serial console might be available via usb (eg on the g1 it is, with a custom cable) but it is only helpful for kernel debugging - if a kernel is broken, but not too broken, you can get logs out of it while it starts up..
Ok. I made an attempt at taking the pics. This is my first time to do macro shots
If anyone can give me suggestions to make better. Let me know.

Indeed. But seeing the tty stuff in the kernel just made me think that if the usb can double as a serial port, it might also double (triple?) as an easy to reach jtag port. Then again, I dunno how many cables a jtag needs. iirc, microusb has 5.

NFC?

I'm just wondering what the prognosis is on NFC for the Thunderbolt?
Are we actually getting it? Is there a possibility of it getting leaked?
We would need the NFC hardware in our phones before we could use the NFC software.

Oh I thought we had it. I could have sworn I saw somewhere that said we did. Haha. Damn.
If NFC is really important to you, you should be able to purchase a replacement microSD with an imbedded NFC chip. Not sure how much a 32GB card will be, however.
The biggest I could find (so far) was 8gb.
If you just want to do the Google Wallet thing, they are supposed to be making stickers that you can stick inside your battery cover (or case) to do the swipe-purchase. It doesn't give you the flexibility, or tie into the Google Wallet app, but it is better than nothing...maybe...
Unfortunately I don't think this will take off. I was excited about wave and that had the same fate.

On a phone, it takes more than an rfid reader to access it because it's not a dumb chip (opposed to say rfid on a credit card). Payments are encrypted and transmitted between the phone and the reader as well so man in the middle attacks aren't going to happen.
Please dont spread FUD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt without citing sources. Only issues with rfid (which is has nothing more in common with nfc other than they share the same frequency) being read so far are on crappy implementations such as gas passes with exxon and other stations and toll passes. The proper way for phones to do payments is a one time key that's only good for a transaction.
There are other things nfc is good for besides payments as well (using it in tandem with bluetooth)

http://mobisocial.stanford.edu/img/nfc-poker.jpg (one example)
This isnt exactly nfc, since it's using an rfid tag to give bluetooth connection details, but it works on non hardware enabled nfc devices:

IMPROVING RADIO SIGNAL 3g

MOD EDIT: This modification may very well harm your phone. Read this post for more details, read the entire thread, and most importantly, proceed with caution.
Okies guys heres the breakdown on reception, seems that Nexus S 4g's have antenna ports under battery cover, which seem to be ill placed. Your hand is over them all the time lol. One labeled G this is gps , w1 and w2 on volume side are for wifi and 4g, and r1 is 3g. Do these mods at your own risk, i take no responsibility for damages incurred. Take bread ties that is in your kitchen drawer strip back 1/8th to bare metal, ensure that it is straight before inserting it by the center of r1, use tape to hold in place. This gave me from a no bars 3g to solid 3bars. good luck, tell me if it works for you enjoy !!!

This is just my opinion. Nobody has to believe me. I am not an electronic engineer, but I do hold a radio license that is recognized by the FCC. This mod may very well work, but I think it could do more harm than good. I don't know for sure but these ports could be test points for factory tuning and repair. Adding a random or guessed length of wire to it "could" help the radio. There is also a good chance that you could fry the RF output final transistors in the phone. If the radio was strictly receiving through that port then maybe it wouldn't hurt the phone. If the phone transmits at the same frequency, this random length wire could throw the output section of the phone out of tuning. This wouldn't change anything except the input impedance from the output finals and the internal antenna. This circuit was designed to work together with a specified impedance, that we don't know the value of, and putting a better antenna on it from just guessing how long it needs to be at the frequency the phone is TX/rx is a risky thing. We don't know what the impedance of the antenna is supposed to be nor do we have the proper tools to measure antenna impedance between the transmitter and antenna to get the lowest standing wave ratio for the desired frequency. Also, what I have learned in testing antennas in a much lower frequency range than this phone is that low swr doesn't mean that the antenna will perform well. As they say in a hobby I have participated in is that you can make a wet noodle resonate but that doesn't mean you're going to "get out" with it. I'm already explaining things in a way that would go over the heads of many a lay person if they weren't into and studied in the hobby of amateur radio.
I'm not saying I know better or am better than anyone here. To make a long story short, if you don't have the right equipment, knowledge, and skill to do stuff like the mod is about, then I would HIGHLY suggest you not trying it. There is a very good chance that you could burn up the RF output transistors in the phone and then essentially you would turn the phone into a receive only radio like your FM radio. Putting a random (guessed) length wire on a receiver isn't going to hurt the electronics inside it, it will just make it receive better or worse. With a transceiver (a radio that can transmit and receive), this experiment has the possibility of burning out components inside the phone on the transmit side. I've blabbed enough. This is only my opinion on this, that's all...
All I have are plastic thingies that keep my bread soft and fresh...

Bad bad bad idea, it messed up my 3G radio antenna,no data at all data goes in and out, it won't let me update profile, sprint can't fix the problem w a hard reset of data.. gotta go in and get a new phone... told em didn't want the nexus anymore and im getting the Evo 3D.
This phones radio just sucks period! From what a rep at sprint told me... its not sprints data its the radio antenna itself poorly made.

okies this is an update to whether phone has blown up or wot . lol no it hasnt not gone to waste and yes mr radio expert Ocsar is correct in knowing bout rf and antenna length this is a test port to plug in antenna or equipment at a shop and test for tuning its is a direct connect to the transmitter/reciever, if u open ur phone u will see that the port actually goes down under the main board to the build in wire that is on pcb.The wire was cut in progression to get best reception, data rate improved slightly will have s/s of data after more testing
soz bout ur phone lucky, sounds like u may have pushed it down and in to port hard and broke the flat copper piece away that lies right under the port. good luck with your evo tho they rock

[Q] "Password to shut down" option

I had my iPhone 4 stolen (right in front of my eyes) before I switched to GNote.
I was wondering if there is an app/mod to enable password entry before a phone could be shut down. I guess you can simply take out the battery, if you really wanted to shut down even with this app/mod.
If it is possible, I might consider superglue-ing the backplate to the phone. So, if my phone is stolen, I will hopefully have more time to track my phone and recover it.
Anyone?
Then how would you access your sim or SD card? I would highly suggest just keeping it in your pocket when you go out from now on.
And if you're held up at gunpoint just give it to him and chalk it up to the cost of staying alive.

I was at McD's with my brother and my girlfriend. My brother was sitting across from me, and the phone was on the table inches away from me.
This teenager came up behind my brother, reached over him across the table to grab my phone and took off. We chased after him outside. He sprayed us with a bear spray (stronger than pepper spray), but I had glasses on, so I still caught him. But while we were struggling, he tossed the phone to another kid and I chased after him. By this time, I was too tired and they both got away.
I lost my phone, ruined a very nice coat and shoes because bear spray won't come out of it, and police lost my driver's license while taking my statement.
It was a very sh***y day, and if you don't have anything constructive to say in response to my question, don't reply. I know I won't be able to access the SIM card and SD card, but I rarely ever need to anyways, unless there is a major issue. I will deal with it then.
Jesus man thats terrible I am really sorry to hear about that. Ill keep my phone much closer to me now.
As for those kids you should have gave the one you caught something to remember. Something he will remember for the rest of his life.
I would have taken his left eye with my thumb.
Get a pistol for next time and he'll stop one way or the other. Preferably the other imo. One less wannabe thug making babies.

Omate Truesmart - Shoddy build. Beware

My Kickstarter Omate Truesmart arrived yesterday. Super excited.
Today I wore it as a wristwatch for the first time. Within 2 hours, just wearing it on a standard tube journey, nothing untoward or unusual - not banged or something- it had lost the power button. [Edit: By this I mean it's fallen off and gone missing, if that's not clear!] I now can't turn it on.
On the plus side, the battery life is amazing. You'll never have to charge it - the battery is good for the lifetime of the device!
Now how do I contact Omate and tell them this isn't right?
UPDATE: OMATE did indeed swap the watch for a working one in the end. It took a while, but they are worth talking to with issues. Credit to em, in the end.
Try unscrewing the back and press the battery in whilst trying to turn it on. Some of the watches seem to be a bit loose. If it works, you'll probably need to wedge a bit of card between the battery and the watch back.
Have you tried the other battery?

How does this solve the problem of the power button falling off and going missing? *baffled*
Perhaps I should have been more explicit. This isn't a software bug. The button fell off in casual wear. As per subject line: Shoddy build. All there is now is a hole in the side of the watch.
