Im new here and have tons of questions from experienced people - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

Hello. I'm George. And I have loads of questions about my android I think I have samsung galaxy 5 but im not entirely sure. Searching for my phone on internet and android market it gave me Samsung GT-I5500. But Is it I5500 when it has a with google logo on the back of it?
so lets begin
1. I would like to update my phone Rom or how you call it, I have 2.2 froyo at the moment. Can I update it higher?
2. If i can then how much room do I need on my sd car cause at the moment I have only 1gb sd card. Would that work or i need biger?
3. If I would do it could anyone give me online help? over skype or msn?
4. what happens if i mess it all up? Is my phone warranty lost and I can throw the phone in lake?
5. The last time I kinda attempted to uptade it it gave me error when backing up original rom. It was something to do that it couldnt mount /system or something.
6. What does bricked mean? does it mean its broken forever?
I'm so nervous that I mess it all up so before i **** it up I thought I will contact you guys.

1. Yes, 2.3.7 is the highest (I think) except for ics (4.0) which is very unstable
2. Don't need much space on sdcard except for moving apps. 1gb is enough
3. I'm sure someone would. Id be willing to do it over msn if we arranged a time, if you needed.
4. It is very hard to mess up. If you follow instructions there is a 99.85691% chance of messing up (exact value ) there are ways to get it backbif by any chance you do mess up
5. I don't think you are able to back up stock roms at the moment, that's why. But there are other stock rom files that you can flash if you ever want to go back
6. Bricked, meaning your phone is as useful as a brick. Happens when you mess up big time.
I was the same as you on my first time. It went fine for me, now I'm flashing different stuff all the time

Custom ROM for Galaxy Ace: discontinued, sorry

Hey guys,
I've discontinued my work on the custom ROM for the galaxy ace, due to the fact that the only person who I knew, who had this phone, actually broke his phone (because it fell or something)..
Also I do not have enough time to work on it properly, so I hope someone else can continue my work (Peeter123?) and open a new topic concerning this...
Intentionally left blank
Looks good, will try to help if I can. Also: Wifi definitely needs fixing. Constant crashes in std samsung build.
Maybe it would be nice to build in ext3 and ext4 support.
I will focus on speeding up the fw first, maybe do some kernel hacks later..
Are you running the new XEKB1 firmware from samfirmware . com already? If so, could you supply me with a copy of your /system folder? Im missing some files/dirs from the fw at the moment..
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Sure no problem, I will get to that this afternoon
Ps. I'm indeed running the latest firmware (S5830XEKB1)
Will there be a simplified safe step by step tutorial in the near future on how to use this ROM? (and if it ****s up how to restore to factory default or so) I tried messing around with ROM manager with my first model and it bricked so I'm really careful with the new one I got now (yes I tricked the people at the store to get me a new one).
You can restore firmware with odin relatively easily. Even if the main firmware is ****ed up. How bad was it bricked? And was it possible to turn your phone on in download mode?

Yes, before I post the first version of this ROM I will include a guide on how to succesfully flash this ROM and how to fix a broken/bricked Galaxy Ace again... reading through Peters posts (on this and other topics) hopefully he can help me with producing this..
There is no topic for Galaxy Ace! Why? I think there shold be a lot of developer...

It wanted to reboot so I could back-up my current firmware, but it never did, all I ever managed to get was taking it into a 'connecting..' state within Kies when I used one of the three button tricks but nothing appeared on screen.
No matter what combination I tried or what kind of method, the screen stayed black.
Hmm yea that's what I feared. I guess you messed up your bootloader. A broken bootloader is unrecoverable. Everything else is fixable.
See first post!

First of all, I do not own a galaxy ace. Secondly, please dont post this in this topic, use other topics for basic questions, since it does not concern my ROM, especially since my ROM is not published online yet.
When it is, I will provide help for problems with my ROM in this topic, but not with others ROMs, sorry..
Good luck anyway!

Okay im not that bad for a person, so let me give you some advice:
*------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Flashing your phone usually means putting leaked software on your phone and thus could potentially
break the rights you have that if it breaks down you get a new one.. so its up to you to proceed..
Before Flashing, make sure you have backed-up all your data, otherwise you'll risk losing it.
Secondly, try to read through some forums/sections (maybe about other phones) to know what
it is you are going to do.
Third, install the right drivers for your phone make sure that KIES is not running on your computer!
Shut it down, shut it down, please do so!.. You just needed to install it to get the Galaxy Ace Drivers,
but the rest of the program is only for people who don't know what to do with their phones,
if you are one of them: Stop reading and be satisfied with what you got, or wait for Kies updates!
*------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Okay, now for the flashing:
Make sure your battery is charged all the way up to 100%, if not you can **** up your battery stats (which are restored after charging it up and playing with it for a couple of days, but nevermind)..
Before connecting it to your computer, shut it down and pull the battery!
Also, make sure that your computer wont be killed/shutdown because your laptop battery is empty or your little brother plays with electricity or something, and try to close as many applications on your computer as possible, just to be sure..
Proceed to the flashing, following these guidelines:
Firmware Update Steps, follow the exact order!:
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
1. Run Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 Downloader
2. Select OPS file : Cooper_v1.0.ops in the OPS field.
3.
- Click BOOT button and select: APBOOT_S5830xxxxx_xxx...._user_low_true.tar.md5
- Click Phone button and select: MODEM_S5830xxxxx_xxx...._REV03.tar.md5
- Click PDA button and select: CODE_S5830xxxxx_xxx...._REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
- Click CSC button and select: CSC_S5830xxxxxx_xxx......_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
4. Put your phone into Download Mode: Press middle Key ( OK key ) + Power + Volume Down
5. Connect USB cable to your phone and the program must read the Com number it takes.
6. Click Start button and the update process will start.
7. Do not touch or remove anything till the device rebooted and you can see PASS word on the program!!
*---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
And that's it, that's all I can do for you at the moment. Maybe next week I'll have some more expierence with flashing the galaxy ace, as of now I have only flashed my Galaxy s (a million times) and my Samsung Star (three times ), so I'm not an expert on flashing a Galaxy Ace.
Ugh, was hoping for the ROM instructions
Anyway, I'm fairly new to Android and ROM's, I rooted my phone already successfully so I could get things like Adblocker for apps etc.
I understand and have been told that ROM's are supposedly the 'better' firmwares out there when they are designed for a phone, thus saving things like battery life and performance, is this true or is this really ROM depended?
I'm mainly looking for things like extending the battery life of my phone (performance speed is way enough already with stock firmware), would this be a good reason to use a custom ROM or shouldn't I bother?
Did you tried everthing in ACE..just reconfirming...
You can increase battery life by disabling data network when you dont use it and by removing all those fancy widgets from your desktop launcher, they eat up battery juice.. also, install advanced task killer froyo from market and kill your running apps that you dont use, set security to low

Tested a few days with and without ATK. There was no difference. Much better battery life with Juice Defender.

[Q] Bricked my phone?

So I had previously rooted my SGSII, and decided to try installing CM7 on it. I used CWM Recovery and ran it off the SD card, and everything appeared to work fine. I think I had a bad/not fully functioning CWM or something, as it didn't list an option to backup anything (I'm guessing because I flashed the stock kernel after rooting?) Anyway, it will no longer boot. I can access download mode, but Odin fails everytime I try to flash anything back on there. When I try to boot my phone, I just get a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" error.
EDIT: I just tried again as I was writing this, after rebooting, reinstalling my drivers and rebooting my computer. I was able to get the Firmware to flash properly in Odin. Now I have my phone booting and getting stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 splash screen... Doesn't seem to go any further than that though, unfortunately.
Any ideas what I can do? Is it possible that I need re-flash a bootloader or something ??
Any help would be supremely appreciated!
So I was just trying to re-install the Kernel, using the CF unsecured kernel, and it failed, but when I try to go into recovery mode, it looks as though it managed to install CWM Recovery. I have no idea what to do from here, and am sort of afraid to do anything for fear or bricking the phone completely...
I'm hoping someone out there knows how to fix this, I feel like such a tool
As long as you can get into download-mode, your phone isn't bricked.
If you switch from or to a TouchWiz-based ROM, you have to do a full-wipe in the recovery.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Go back to stock first via download mode via odin
Nah you're good. Similar thing happened to me at my first flashing attempt. Get your stock firmware from Intratech's thread, put the phone into download mode & flash the firmware via Odin.
Then maybe have another go at rooting the phone with the matching CFRoot kernel.

yes, if you can still go in download mode it's no so difficult..this "small brick" it's on of "Android things to do" once in your SGS2 life
Hi guys. I'm in a worst situation. As my phone after a failed ODIN downgrade from Android 2.3.6 to one stock kernel is completelly dead - it doesn't boot anymore - not even managed to put it back into download mode or revert to fact defaults (no keys, no lights not even battery charging displayed when pluged in) - tryed the USB jig also. Nothing worked.
The question is: Will Samsung manage to repair and how much will it cost - an average ammount offcourse. Because I guess it's out of the question to be considered a warranty issue. I guess it will be visible somebody have done smth to the ROM by a software approach....
This is the short story because I would bore you to discuss all the things I have been through - it was only my faoult out of stupidity
HELP!
I don't see why Samsung wouldn't fix it ? As to how much they'll charge you, I think you'll find that will vary from country to country (labour costs being variable, etc). No, I don't think you'll be able to have it repaired under warranty.
You might want to look at having it JTAG repaired by someone other than Samsung. This will possibly be cheaper than having Samsung repair it. Do a search on here/Google.

Thank you very much. I have searched alot to actually understand - unfortunatelly for me it will cost... I saw on youtube a JTAG in action right now (cannot post the link yet). I understand now it is the only way. I'll keep you posted guys. Tomorrow I'll go to service.
I'm sorry it's going to cost Alex. A difficult thing to happen, I know
Here's a link for a JTAG repairer in the US who is also a member here, tho I see you've already found one. I'm sure doing it this way will be cheaper/probably faster than having Samsung do the repair as well.

Thax. Funny thing is that this is exactly the thing I found - the same mobiletechvideos in US Now I allready have an ideea of how much should cost that. Hopefully I'll find a local GSM repair shop with the posibilitty to unbrick it cheep - or at least not much than 50USD - in local currency ofcource.
I'm still thinking if it is possible to use an ATMEL copy process - like in the old times for EEPROMS - I have done that in the past. In theory it might work but I will never do it - alredy scared about what happened to my beloved droid.
Thx again Mistah and have a gr8 day and a wonderfull new 2012!
Yeah I've seen a report or two on here from people who have used his service & have been happy. Must admit I found his page when thought I'd bricked my phone after my first flash attempt messed up. Yeah you might be able to get it done cheaper somewhere local, and that will mean less time without the phone for you without the phone in mail from you to the US & back again.
Let us know how you get on, your experience will be a good guide for people in future who have the same problems as you.
No probs man, happy to give you the little help I did. You too Alex Hope you have a great year & you get your phone back & working soon

Questions regarding Jtagging An Sgs2

Hello
I have a question to do with the jtag, actually a couple of questions.
So here is what happened:
I have (or had :crying: ) an samsung galaxy s2 and I think I have hard bricked it, don't know how tough. I was prompted to download the updates for the apps i have on the play store, afterwards i came across an error saying something like 'failed to install'. And after that everything started crashing, so i thought a restart would do the trick and fix it. So i left it for about 5 minutes and the it still hasn't shut down, so the best thing i could think of was to take out the battery, afterwards i couldn't turn it on(No vibration, screen was black) I have tried the usb jig and failed (either because i was using Stock ICS or probably because the bootloader has been messed up somehow), So the last thing i could try is to send it off to a company near my area who jtag phones(already found one).
The cost is not that big so it doesn't really matter to me (only £25) and im about 99.9% sure that i will do this, but i just want to know a couple things to be sure before i send it off to be jtagged.
1. Does my whole phone memory get deleted in the process?
2. Will a jtag solve my problem?
3. After the riff box or something other has finished jtagging my phone, will i be able to use the phone normally and be able to flash roms?
4. Does jtagging affect anything else other than the software (bootloader, modem etc....) ?
5. Will jtagging my phone bring any thing extra (except the fact that it will work :3 )?
And also i am not really worried if it don't ever work any more because i do have any other sgs2 that i can use but having 2 would be better for my personal use ( long story about why). Any answers will be appreciated. And sorry if i posted this in the wrong sub-forum but i guess it is mostly questions so i think i got it right.
Thanks
If you haven't rooted or installed a custom rom, send it for warranty repair. No need for Jtag.

i have rooted and installed custom rom's on it many times, but i have reset my flash counter using some program by an xda dev. i dont seem to have a warranty and i'm willing to pay £25 for the jtag so that i don't have to wait long for my phone to be back where it belongs i just want to know a couple of things before i send it off
Well, as far as I know, Jtag brings your phone back into clean factory working state. And I think the entire memory is wiped.
A new bootloader is installed as well since the phone cant be booted. When the bootloader is screwed, the phone is bricked beyond repair for the user. Everything stock is installed, similar to flashing stock rom.
After that you can flash roms again like nothing happened.
And Jtag doesnt bring anything else than a working phone.

Thanks for the answer, i was hoping it wouldn't wipe the memory (Internal 16gb that i have) because i have data on it that would be useful for me but as long as i get this phone working i'm happy Thnaks again
Well, you could ask the serviceman what could be done with the data...

I asked but no luck :L, because of how jtagging is done there is no way of retrieving the memory its self. Now i know to always use external SD cards. I still don't get how it happened though since i wasn't flashing anything and haven't flashed anything for the past 2-3 months

[Q] Mv systemtuner -> out of /sys into user apps. PLEASE HElp

Hi, please please please help... I guess im an idiot. And i "sort of knew" what i was doing....
I moved system tuner into the user apps out of sys and immediately got errors almost back to back as everything on my phone crashed, i tried desperately to navigate back and undo the process before the phone died but i failed and now im really scared its bricked.
I cant reboot its stuck on logo (no animation)
I cant safe boot (stuck on logo and says "starting rsd protocol.
Please is there any thing i can do, any way to reverse this, i was just gunna go into safemode and move it back. Do i need to flash over a recover? Can i even? Im so scared its bricked
I also have super user installed and i set it to auto allow but after the move this was changed? Default set to no when system tuner app asked to switch and that messed it all up?
Please please please help, sorry if this is bad section im not sure why my acnt is "new" its yrs old and ive even helped some noob programmers on here in the past, yes noobs can help noobs
So even if u have ideas let me know... Im scared
Android 2.3 moto atrix
Edit: yes im rooted, no custom roms. kay ima just sit here the next seventeen hrs waiting while i surf the web, thanks so much to anyone who even reads this! Ive done so much worse learning to "program" for android. I mean i cant believe i didnt brick it in the past, these things seem unbrickable (hope).
Edit2: wow this is gunna be a long one... Zero finds online... Zero :/ i tried taking battery out for a while didnt work... Not sure what that does anyway... Reset some kind of voltage dependent cached info?
Edit3: going to try to put this in a more appropriate section. Sorry i didnt mean to put it here :/ grrrrrr sry
You could boot in recovery and perform what's called a factory reset. That will factory reset your device. It should work as long as you got a recovery of some sort. Not sure if it will affect your root status but since your stock and rooted, you could just reroot.

Omg!!! Fuuuuuuuudnuts! Anything at all not related to recovery
Also any help on that factory reset? I have two copys of backup of cellphone. One on pc one on phone. I have titanium-backup on phone (i had it frozen using system tuner)
But... I have absalutly no idea whatsoever what to do... How do i even get this atrix into recovery? Ill go check but if u no offhand pls tell me. Also if anyone knows the exact problem i am need to know, because something this simple shouldnt require a recovery!!!!! Plus im not even sure that will work (( so if anyone knows wtf happened please tell me
Funny hpw the brain works... I was gunna make backup before doing this... But the extra 10 mins was too long ((((( anyone know a way that involves only flashing? From what i know two types of flashing exist and one lets you edit by bit which means maybe i can just move over a file? Im not sure what im talking about or which technology is used/or mainly used in the android. Anyway i will do a recovery if i have too but im gunna wait few hrs.
I think ii found a way using cwm.. But i dont have that idk why ........Its amazing.... New phone :/
Can somebody please help i tried factory recovery still no success ((
Im guessing its bricked... Which is pretty sad because the technology should let me fix this i want to know exactly what happened... I moved one app out of /sys that i put there ((((
I can enter android recover mode and nvflash and some others that i dont understand.
In android recovery i tried factory reset data and clear cache. Both of which should solve my problem.......
Im baffled it didnt work, should i buy a sd card and load my backup from pc onto it and select it in android recovery as backup? I always thought adb mode was merely flashing reprogramming read only parts of memory... I hence thought i could just use nvflash... I read alot and i still dont know if i can.... I know technology allows it... But.... I found this ?

Please help - Hacker deleted my CM OS

So this guy online tried to make me send come cash via Western Union to China so that he can "buy my car and freight it over". I knew it was a scam so i kept msging on my Samsung Galaxy S3 with CM mod. In the end he got the ****s and next thing you know my whole OS is gone, i enter recovery mod there is nothing there, everything has been wiped out.
I can still go through all functions but i cannot mount anything. Is there any way to get my OS back?
I tried to use KIES to recover by default but it says i cannot update the device, i think its because i run CM?
Thanks
okay first 1.Why would you keep messaging with a guy who tries to scamm you ?
2. I don't think this is possibile for someone to "hack" into your phone just like that .
3. perhaps your phone died ,suddenly ?
4. flash the rescue firmware ,maybe it can help .
5. I still don't believe it

Yes i was like you, i believe it is not possible for him just to hack my phone so i kept messing with him. But the fact that after i lead him on for 5 days and right after the last email i sent him my phone just went dead. I cannot bypass the Samsung screen during startup, and it seems like it might have been bricked.
I don't see how i been using CM for last year and nothing happen and next thing this happened because then it would have happen to alot of other people using CM mod.
i have been using cm for almost 2 years ( alot of nigerians tried to scamm via email ,but i don't respond to emails ( unknown ) via phone because of data scripts)) , and i have to say ,happend to me once while playing a game ,phone suddenly turned off ,tried to turn on and ended in a bootloop .
Once you roooted your phone and changed the rom kies become unavailable for firmware upgrades . Try use odin and flash rescue firmware maybe it will help with something . Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6
