Restoring Galaxy S II to original factory settings - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i bought my sgs2 back in august, it was working flawlessly till yesterday, as i rebooted it usually & now the sim card is not detecting..
( i rooted my sgs2 one day after i bought it by cf-root v4 & now was using sensation rom by crysis from last 2 months )
i switched 2 sims but none is working
i checked all setting... everything was ok.. to be sure i factory reset my phone.. but still having a ban sign on statusbar & network setting saying insert sim card
i also wiped user data & dalvic cache by recovery by .. but nothing was helpfull..
atlast i googled the problem..& found out its a hardware prob. & have to get back my phone to samsung by claiming warranty.. either repair or replacement..
now the problem is how to restore my phone to factory/stock unrooted ROM & Kernal by odin...
pls provide me d/l links for a official indian ROM & also a step by step tutorial for flashing...
so nothing goes wrong coz' i don't use odin much & only use cwm recovery..
can i use mobile odin?

pls someone help

Hello.
From this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125282
I found link to this guide(Stock ROMs):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Good luck. Please let me know if you succeed.(hope you will)

i did it successfully..
but cwm recovery is still there.. so how can i get stock recovery or is it not necessary??
Is there any chance samsung support could question me??

stock recovery is 3e .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

[Q] sgs2 stuck at boot screen

first of all plz don't hate for making a new thread i really searched some time and i dind't find anything that helped me.
my sgs2 is stuck at the boot screen (splash screen with the S and "samsung galaxy sII" underneath).
i can access recovery and download mode. so i did a data/cache wipe and factory reset and than i flashed an original firmware with odin. flahs worked fine but my phone is still not booting. i also flashed an insecure kernel and tried - not working so i reflashed the original kernel - still not working. btw i flashed this one "GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1".
so can anyone help me plz?!
Lol. Funny.

as i said in my first post if you would have read it i already did this and it is not working!
have you tried updating thru KIES?
which region is your handset from?
and you have already tried using the USB Jig too...right? after reading the POST one
If you belong to XEU, Kies would update the phone to KF3.
After updating the firmware normally the phone gets stuck in the boot screen for 10-15 secs first time around. i hope you are leaving it there for a minute or so.
i tried kies but it didnt recognize the phone.
i also flashed kf3 now but it is still not working. left it on splash screen for about 10 mins or so...
Well for starters a question about failed boot would be better answered in a failed boot thread and you dont mention you have read that post in your OP .
Clean flash
Via CWM recovery mounts and storage format SD card System Data Cache and this will wipe all data .
Factory reset .
Phone will now not boot .
Enter download mode .
Open Odin
Download a stock rom and following instructions connect USB cable and flash .
That fails its a service centre job .
jje
ok jjegan can you plz explain that again so a noob can do it too?
Clean flash
Boot into recovery go to mounts and storage format SD card System Data Cache and this will wipe all data .
Factory reset .
Phone will now not boot no OS .
Enter download mode .
Open Odin
Download a stock rom and following instructions connect USB cable and flash .The same method you used .
jje
That fails its a service centre job .
Firstly, you did mention that you tried a factory reset, so the third post from JJE has no merit, so instead of assuming we know everything and rushing to answer, we need to determine the conditions under which your phone is no longer booting.
Was the phone working normally?
If it was, what rom was the phone running in the first place, and what did you do (if anything) before it got stuck at the boot logo?
The last post by JJE is "assuming" you have the CWM recovery, I am going to ask you, which recovery do u have, is it the stock recovery or the CWM recovery. if it's the ClockworkMod you would know.
Did you try a normal reboot or did you try flashing something on the phone before you got the bootloop?
yes the phone was working normally. i didn't do anything before it got stuck at boot. The stock rom with t-mobile austria branding was running on it. i can't say the exact version. The phone began to lag during games and browsing so i turned it off and wanted to turn it on again as it got stuck at boot logo.
no i do not have cwm installed so the factory reset and data/cache wipe was done from stock recovery.
after several on/off switches i tried flashing an unbranded stock rom available in this forum. first ke7 then kf3 but the phone still wont boot. also kies is not recognizing the phone.
thanks in advance.
What you want to do is get in into download mode open odin and
download and extract this
http://androidadvices.com/downloads/GalaxyS2_GTI9100_XXKG3_2.3.4.zip
tick repartition
click on PIT and select u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit,
click on PDA and select CODE_I9100XXKG3_CL401405_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5,
click on Phone and select MODEM_I9100XXKG3_REV_02_CL1040774.tar.md5,
click on CSC and select GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG3.tar.md5,
flash it
after all done perfectly reboot to recovery and wipe partition cache
reboot once again and you are done
if this helped reply me
unfortuantly it didnt work out. i did everything as you described but it still got stuck at the boot screen.
i really dont know what to do any more...
Downloaded but asking for password to unzip?
One of the major do not touch is both repartition and pit file especially for a novice .
You have taken the steps in the Boot loop thread post recovery wipe user data . Download mode followed by flash a stock rom that fails flash Villain rom .
Personally i would take the phone to a service centre and claim it stopped working during a Kies update .

BEST wipe for S2!

HEY HO
This topic is about YOUR ways to full wipe/reset/restore a Samsung galaxy S2 !!!
! Not the halfwipes with caches factory reset and flashing rom. !
Looking for the REAL restoring.
This has to include the whole Phonesoftware! How to install your phone brandnew if anything went wrong. How to install even every phone driver ... EVERYTHING ^^
Lets see what you have got in your Pocket
? Provide one yourself.
use an usb jig and flash a stock rom
Boot |CWM recovery mounts and storage format cache system dalvik data and sd card
Phone empty flash stock rom through Odin .reset custom rom counter with USB jig if needed .
Real restore and brand new comment would make the assumption that the user had saved the original firmware or at least had access to a copy . In which case replace original firmware by flashing via Odin instead of stock rom .
Fairly simple tasks .

xD no ... my wifi driver just doesnt work anymore and I flashed the stock rom (from samfirmware.com) about 3-4 times now but it doesnt "repair" the driver or anything ^^
I have been helping the OP try to Fix his wifi problem and the first thing we suggested is to flash back to the factory state.
Even after doing a full wipe there are files missing on his system preventing the WIF from working. in particular the following files are missing:
/data/.cid.info
/system/etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt
Who knows what other files are missing.
So my question is how come after the OP did the following using clockworkmod
wipe system
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik-cache
These are STILL missing files after restoring the stock ROM. Are these files not part of the system ROM? or are the generated automatically by some start-up script on first run. I suspect that some first run start-up script is not being run on the OP S2 which would normally generate the missing files.
So the question is how to do a complete factory reset of the S2 in cases were some of the original files have got corrupted or deleted.
(for the background on this problem read thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1285249 )
Come on guys we can help the OP rebuild his S2.
So the question is how to do a complete factory reset of the S2 in cases were some of the original files have got corrupted or deleted.
If the factory files are corrupt on the device you will need new firmware .
Factory = the last firmware to be flashed .Restore copy is whats flashe d on wipe and factory reset .Factory reset returns to last flashed firmware NOT original firmware that came with the phone out of the box .
If you follow my post above then you end up with an empty phone with a clean sd card .
Flashing either original firmware or Stock Samsung firmware via Odin as the next step .
Simple as recovery /format /Odin /flash.

That's because a stock rom might not come with a stock kernel.
Your problem sounds like a kernel problem, not necessarily a ROM problem. My suggestion is to wipe /system, /data, /cache, and then install a fresh CM7 nightly. These come with ROM AND Kernel. If your wifi works in CM7 then you know for sure your phone isn't damaged. If wifi still doesn't work, you may have to return your phone.

hmm I flashed with cf root kernel ... it should be the stock kernel or am I wrong ?!?
For the record the offending two lines in his logcat are:
E/WifiHW (2927): return of insmod (args:firmware_path=/system/etc/wifi/bcm4330_sta.bin nvram_path=/system/etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt) : ret = -1, Invalid argument
E/WifiService(2927): Failed to load Wi-Fi driver.
Does any body know if these two errors are caused by a hardware or software problem?

[Q] Cant restore after ICS Rom

Hi,
I thought I would try the ICS XXKP8 update so I took a backup of my phone using CW recovery. Then flashed it following the guide here:
www(dot)theandroidsoul(dot)com/galaxy-s2-ice-creams-sandwich-leaked-firmware-xxkp8
After a couple of days I decided I wanted to go back but as the guide flashed over CW recovery I cant restore from backup until I load it as the main Kernal again. The Problem is I cant get Odin to work. Every time I try to flash somthing to my phone it just sits there forever. I have even tried reflashing to the same XXKP8 update and it just sits there. Can anyone help?
Thanks
What exactly have you tried to flash. First try factory reset from recovery menu. Try a stock ROM from intratechs topic. Flash a matching CF-KERNEL. Then reload your backup.

wel u have a soft brick ma8 dont panic just dwnl a odin flashable stock GB rom and install the same
after that search the forum under samsung gs2 how 2 root ur phone with stock gb fallow the instructions and root ur phone
then select the ics rom like lightening rom and flash thru odin
every thing will be fine
Reading the post, seems like OP did flash a stock file (although ICS, not GB).
2 dumb questions just to confirm. You have the i9100? not the i9100G? Also have you waited a certain amount of time after you flashed those roms? It can take up to a couple minutes for it to first boot.
If above are fine, (you have i9100, and you waited a long time and it was still stuck on i9100 screen)
Try the link below.

Factory reset is not required after flashing a rom .
You load rom via Odin it finishes install and then reboots itself .
You load rom via CWM and it goes to reboot screen yes and phone reboots .
As said a stock gb rom flashed via Odin preferably after a format of system data and cache should be your first step .
jje
i did that.

yup i had siyah 3.1rc6 on my phone.
i tried to restore my nandroid backup but there is no effect on my problem.
how to know weather emmc is fine or currupted?
Try to mount it in CWM and connect it in linux computer and run fsck to check the eMMC. Windows chkdsk is no good.
And please try to remember, did you do this step: flash bad siyah rc6 then wipe/factory reset and get stuck?
if not, then the problem is different from those who flash bad rc6 (which is removed now and siyah is safe)
any thing is not working.
in every thread its written that if my phone goes in download mode and recovery mode then its soft bricked but then how can i unbrick my phone?
or is there any hardware problem?
i can mount and unmount every thing in recovery mode
i can format every thing but only user data cannot be formated, when ever i format/data or factory reset the phone hangs.
is there any other way of hard resetting i9100.?other than cwm recovery?
Have you tried flashing with the .PIT? I doubt it'll work, since other people also tried it, but it's worth a shot.
