Hotspot will not work with 4G. I recommend you d/l wifi tether. That is what I use for 4G. Just do a forum search, I've seen posts w/ the apk attached that should work for you .
Looked up one link. I know that the latest version is 108, but here is a link for 105.
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-pre105.apk
Or even better reference this thread. I believe that V107 is available.

This is cdma not gsm. You need to update your profile in system updates. Then dial *17

I had this issue when I first got my OG evo, I called in and they walked through altering some settings, took me some time arguing with them but it worked
I was running fine on my thunderbolt after rooting. Then I flashed cm7 and now I can connect to evdo/cdma. But any radio setting with LTE not only stops the data connection but stops connecting completely. What should i do?
i rebooted a few times...and now im back on 4g? wtf?
and 4g is out again...
4g connectivity in cm7 is being worked on, word on the street (twitter) is that slayher has made significant progress. Hang around the cm7 thread for the latest, we're a friendly bunch, just don't ask for an eta

So I was running a cm7 rom, and for the most part, I always keep my phone in 3g, unless I'm downloading or doing alot of web surfing. Anyways, I toggled my 4g on, and the speeds were ridiculously slow (0.5mbs down) . It was like that for about a week. I just figured it was a rom issue?? Well I flashed a sense rom today, and the 4g speeds are just as slow. My signal indicator shows a full signal (4g) but the up/down arrows are constantly lit. I even tried flashing back and forth between the 802 and 906 radios. Has anyone had this problem? Is it a bad sim? My 3g works fine...

If it was a bad SIM all you'd get would be 1x and no 3g or 4g.
Update: I had my wife test her 4g speeds at work and they were fine (tbolt). When she came home, I re-ran her speedtest, and it did exactly what my phone does. I must just live in some weird pocket.

my tethering seems very unreliable. im using the latest wifi tether apk but thats irelevant as i have used many versions but the problems persist. allow me to explain, im in no way new to android nor tethering. i have followed all the steps to get 4g tethering speeds ( toggle data off, disable 4g re enable and so on) the thing is i cant get a stable connection from my laptop or my xoom for more than 20 mins. the connection either goes idle or the phone just restarts or i simply get disconnected from it. im just wondering whether it' s just me or whether this a common problem among photon users. many thanks and great forum.

I believe the 4G on your phone becomes idle. Just a guess.
I have heard this happens to other Photon users as well. Not sure what the cause of it is or the fix. I'm going to try some things out when I get time and see what mine does. I've never tried to tether for that long of time before. Will post back if I find out anything new.
**I can only test 3G. No 4G in my area.
Are you rooted or using a rom?
**Ignore this (my) post...had something but changed my mind***
thanks. yes rooted & stock

4g tether works for me using
wifi tether 2.06

Has anyone been successful in turning off 4G and using 3G on the At&t note?
I am rooted but I think I am on the stock ROM. Don't know how to install those anyway.
Would it save me more battery and able to switch to 3g if I had a different ROM?

I've asked this question too and so have others. Currently, DAGr8's Saurom ICS rom has a 4g/3g toggle.. But nothing for Gingerbread roms that I've found. I've tried several toggle switch apps on the market w/o a good solution.
Turning off 4g would be great, especially when your wanting slower data speeds when the phone is not in use and just syncing data.
