Prime (TF201) VS Eee Pad Transformer (TF101) video review - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Here we go:
PART 1:

PART 2:

So, the video will be up. I tried to cover all the issues people thought there would be. I also tried to cover the performance boosts.
I will also upload a browser benchmarking test(s) for the prime. Default Browser, Opera, Dolphin. [soon]
The Prime is very very quick! I cannot slow it down!
Ask me anything else, I will answer the best I can!
*Videos are uploading, I have to go to bed!

"This video has been removed because it is too long"
You might want to break it up into 2 parts such that no part is more than 15 minutes long..

Video Not showing up. YouTube said it's been removed because it's too long.

Netflix is here for Android users!
I've packaged up the APK into an easy little installer that takes about 5 seconds.
Have fun!
EDIT: This was pulled from an LG Revolution dump. It doesn't allow you to play anything streaming yet. But it does allow for everything else.
Sooo close!
I got really excited when I saw this. Can't wait till its all ironed out and ready to go.
Thanks for this! Can't wait until we can get streaming, and also Hulu Plus for that matter. Down with traditional cable!
Cant wait til I can actually stream lol
Is this new? Its been leaked for about a week or more and I already installed it. I really thought this was a working version and was pretty happy.

Might be a stupid question. But do you have to pay for these movies?
If yes, why not just use the regular Netflix service.

If you have a Netflix account then you can stream "Watch Instantly" movies over the phone, just like you can on the computer or Roku box.
i thought the deal was that you'd need a phone with the right drm capabilities before being allowed to stream? Not saying it won't get hacked for other phones, but i'm a little skeptical that we'll be able to just pull an apk and get streaming.
Just downloaded and tried it with my Atrix and Netflix account. Streaming is allowed and videos start to load, but after a few seconds screen goes white, then flashes back to Netflix main page.

Streaming is not allowed. The app hasn't even gone official yet. The app is trying to stream but it can't because it's not enabled yet.
You guys see the new netflix app on the evo forums.

Just Return My Nook Tablet due to Flash Video Streaming issue.

I picked up my pre-order Nook Tablet from local B&N store right after work today. But unfortunately after playing with it for a while i began noticing some flickering issue with flash streaming videos (most amazon video and youtube video i tried suffer from the same issue to some degree). I took the NT back to to B&N store and talked with a nook specialist, and we try the same video on 2 other demo NT unit on the counter, and they also have the problem.
We agree that this is most likely an Adobe flash player app issue, and can be taken care off with a software update, but there is no telling how long it will take for B&N to release a software fix. So for now i decided to return the NT before my 14 day refund period.
To see the problem yourself, play this following youtube video in 720p, you should notice the video flickering issue within the first 10 second.
http://youtu.be/5n4V3lGEyG4
The good news is that this issue doesn't affect people who does not use the NT as their streaming video player (i have amazon prime instance videos that i stream alot). I also tested MP4 video directly loaded on to the NT, and it doesn't have the same flicker issue.
So i just want to let you guys know about this issue. I still think the NT is a great upgrade for my NC, but i will be holding off on repurchasing it until either B&N work the issue out, or CM7 come to our device.
Just tested the video you posted, with no issue.
No flicker at all.
Telling you, it's something with that batch of Nooks.
No flicker here at all, but the audio seemed to be just off a tad from the movement in their lips.

Ive seen that in a lot of music videos, thats just the effect they use.. slowed down movements..
Hmmmm, I tried that link from My Nook Tablet and it just stuck at "Loading Video..." before it finally give me an error that said:
"Activity Browser (in application Browser) is not responding."
lol.
You have 14 days, and you returned it within 20 hours?
ok.
Hmm so far DarkDvr seem to be the only person that detected a hint of the flickering i am talking about. I guess I am just super sensitive to the video flickering issue, since that is what I use my NC, and the NT mostly for. There is hope that soon as CM7 hits the NT, this issue will be resolved.
Also hopefully the news about the NT having a locked bootloader is not true. I really like the form factor of the NC and NT, having the "n" button next to the screen make turning the screen on for the NC and NT really convenient. But without CM7, NT is no where as useful as a full tablet as it can be.

I am seeing voice sync issues with YouTube videos as well as Ted Talks. I copied over an MP4 file and that seems to work fine. The voice seems to trail about 3-4 seconds from the video.

So we might actually be dealing with 2 separate problem with the NT building in Flash player (10.3.186). Not a good sign, hopefully B&N will release a firmware upgrade very soon to update the flash player to 11.1, and fix the 1GB user storage space issue.

Yeah the storage is kinda dumb, definitely don't like that. But, easily fixed once we have root.
Regarding flash - seriously, I have no issues with flash at all. Maybe you guys are watching some weirdly buggy flash videos somewhere..
I watched like 6-7 20-40 minute vids on youtube in bed last night - all in 720p HD. I didn't see any flickering or sound problems, it was beautiful and as good as it possibly can be.

Hmm DarkDyr, I remember you commenting on the other thread that you did see some very minor flickering on the Walter Issacson 60 minute interview flash video, or did I misunderstood your comments?

The interview video - yes, there was very minor flickering there, but if you didn't tell me, maybe I wouldn't even have noticed.
Besides, that was the ONLY flash video that I've seen this happen in, so I'm willing to blame the player or that particular video.
I saw it too.. only noticeable in one area of the screen.. near the top of the video.. not noticeable unless it is full screen.. and only on youtube..
netflix looks perfect..
Every flash video that I have watched (YouTube, FOX and ABC) has had about a 2 second delay on the voices. It did not happen on a video that I have uploaded. Like the rest of you I am hoping that an update will be released in the near future and I REALLY hope that development on this thing starts. I love the form factor and the specs, but the device is really disappointing from an out of the box approach.
Mobile flash is quite disappointing.. there's a reason adobe is dropping it.. I've yet to have a good mobile flash experience on any device..

m.youtube is working fine for me. No delay on any videos that I have seen.
Just fired up amazon instant video in the browser, and I'm definitely seeing some significant flickering, though only on the top part of the video.

Screen flickering and Reboot while watching videos

I have been hearing a lot about transformer prime since few months and I know that it would be long till it come to Indian market. Fortunately I got an opportunity to visit US and I bought prime on the 3rd day of the visit . It is a beautiful looking device. I have been using it for a week now. This is my first experience with Tablet so really not sure what difference does it make with dual vs. quad core (except theoretical stuff). I have faced few issues and would like to check if anyone has experienced the same.
1) I have noticed some flickers on glitches while opening menus or something. This is true when the live wallpaper is running and I had seen that while the youtube app home screen get loaded. Not frequently but yes I have noticed it few times.
2) I guess you cannot use fullscreen for the video's played in the browser. Can you? I tried that and the OS crashed and restarted. In every occasion browser stopped responding for some time and nothing worked till I kill and reopen the browser.
Is there any way to report these issues to Asus customer care? I am in US for 4 more weeks and will be going back to India. I do not think the warranty will work in India since it is not yet launched in India
I dont seem to have an issue playing a video full screen on the prime itself, but if i hook up an hdmi to view it on a tv, i also experience browser lock up and crashing. Hoping an update to flash will take care of this.
It crashed and rebooted again today while watching youtube . This is the forth time in last one week. Do I need to get it changed? I am in US for 3 more weeks.
Trust me, you're not the only one experiencing these and/or similar issues with graphics.
Wait for more updates coming from ASUS in the next couple of weeks.
This tablet is one of the few to love unconditionally!
Sent from the last remaining Prime.
True. Apart from prime, there is no other tablet in the market which I liked. I hope I don't need to return it. Is there any place to track asus software upgrade status?
I also have a Problem with youtube! you can see it in the following video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIO2LBMG-dc&feature=youtube_gdata_player
hopefully a graphicdriver or youtube /flash issue!

Onlive

Has anyone else been having low-graphics "problems" with the Onlive gaming service? I tried 2 games (Darksiders and Dirt 3) and both of them had really low quality image, especially the Dirt 3. Do you have any suggestions how to make the graphics better, or is there any way to do it? (connection speed shouldn't be a problem, have my transformer connected to a 100mb/s Wifi, so it's going the max it's wifi port enables)
I included some photos of my screen.
E: Original problem/post in the quotes (thanks for the help once again)
Hey,
I was looking at some transformer prime videos from youtube and saw this cool app called Onlive which I found useful for our tablet. Sadly I live in Finland where it cannot be downloaded for whatever reasons..
So my question is: could anyone give me the proper apk? Or tell me where I could download/buy it?
Thanks!

You should try contacting onlive. I have the same problem. On my xperia play, the quality is great.

I think it depends on the time of the day. I play onlive on my tf300t at work sometimes during lunch around noon and then on my break around 2:30 and it's a llittle choppy sometimes. BUt at least it still runs. Connection sucks at home sometimes. I know it is better on my PC though. But I notice after work if I go in the break room it's PERFECT. So it could be peak hours.
As long is it doesn't freeze or come up with the message about connection not strong enough. That killed me when I first tried playing it at home. I always had to pause it as soon as I sensed lag. Otherwise i'd die.
My lag senses were tingling.
Response that I got:
Good Day,
Thank you for the screen shot. We do use video compression to stream our games, so the quality will be different than playing a game locally.
I suggest keeping your network as clean as possible when accessing our App. Be sure that no other apps are running and no other devices are connected to the same wifi network, if possible.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance, just let me know and I'll be happy to help you. Have a lovely day!

Thinking about sending it back, advice?

Hey!
I think my Prime is faulty. I can't load a large webpage without the browser crashing. I tested it with multiple browsers. When I leave an app and open another, you can vaguely see the previous app. The left side of the screen sometimes glitches, and I have a dead pixel. Wifi isn't great, but that's common, right? I also have random reboots. But here's the problem: I bought it in NYC, and I live in the Netherlands. Is there a way for me to send it back, preferably somewhere not too far away?
Thanks!
Ridder
The issues are normal. Pretty much everyone has them.
Be patient for ASUS (6 - 12 months by the looks of it) or sell the tablet.
benchmarks show that the 300 / 700 and several reports of other teg3 devices also say similar problems, bad IO. Nothing you can do.

I would say sell it while you can, guys over at ASUS seem awfully quiet about actual progress of fixing this mess, and that's usually bad news.

I have an Asus prime and while the wifi range isn't quite as good as my laptop, it's still very livable and I don't have the browser crashing or screen glitching you described.
It sounds like there's a problem with yours. Contrary to what's been posted, we don't all have problems like this, the I/O should not be causing issues like that.
How long has it been since you bought your prime? Like a week or two, or several months?
Add me to the list of people who say sell it. Buy a Samsung or even apple. The original iPad is better than this.

Yeah stop wasting your time trying to get this thing working and start enjoying a Tablet.
Get something else, personally I would go for an iPad 2/3 if customization or expansion does not worry you. After comparing various tablets, iPad owns them all in terms of smoothness and performance experience.
If you need an SD card reader or keyboards then are attachments to iPad. It may not be as integrated but hey
I hope you don't think that I am an Apple fanboy or that I am trolling or starting a flame war. I am not, this is my personal comment after having tried a lot of them.
If I was buying a phone I would go Android all they way. But with tablets it's still not mature enough.
Mine is scheduled to go up on eBay tomorrow night. I am done with it. Most disappointing tech device that I have ever owned. I am choosing my Xoom Wifi and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 over the prime

The TF101 has an international warranty and can be returned to be replaced in other countries by sending it direct to an asus service centre. I returned mine this way. It is better than nothing but they should repair it. Guessing it is the same for the prime which is eventually what they replaced mine with after the second RMA and lots of letters and correspondence. Generally their customer service is lacking. G ood luck

have you contacted Asus support and discussed it with them?
I know that they are unlikely to suggest buying an Ipad (as some on here feel they need to suggest) but you might find that they would arrange to send it to the Europe repair centre for repair as this does not sound like a typical TFP fault.
Return it via RMA and ask for a refund and purchase, I hate to say it a iPAD 3 and all of your issues will go away like mine did and I have no regrets.
