[Q] Help needed - some issues - TouchPad General

folks, hope some of you can help with resolution/ideas for a few probs i am facing currently; btw, i got my TP recently and was very pleasantly surprised with how good the OS is....now only if some of the nagging issues below can be fixed, it will be great...
1. Calendar: updates made on Outlook calendar in Touchpad do not appear on OWA; only emails sent from TP appear in OWA; even draft mails saved on TP do not appear on OWA (my firm has MS-Exchange server 2007)
2. Email: HTML emails in Yahoo! are rendered correctly, however HTML emails in the corporate Exchange mail are rendered as text mails (my firm has MS-Exchange server 2007)
3. Maps: shows my current location as somewhere in the Atlantic ocean (i live in South America; my research suggests that the MAC address of my router may not have been resolved by the location servers, so they are probably pointing me to some default location
4. Adhoc networks: does not connect to adhoc networks created, say, from a laptop connected to the Internet through LAN
5. Sound: after using phone/skype app, sound disappeared; rebooting fixed this I need to test this scenario again to try to recreate the issue, but if any of you have faced similar issues, it will be great to hear how you were able to fix it..
6. Apps: does anyone know if any of the google apps can be used on the TP?

Are you using WebOS or Android?

webOS 3.0.4 (with preware, and the recommended patches, overclocked to 1512-ondemand)

I would suggest trying the webos roundup forum for answers to your questions. Many of the webos developers are members of that forum. I do not use exchange myself but have seen these discussions held on the webos roundup forum and the level of knowledge there is very high. Give it a try. I hope to see you there.

XDA / Pocket IE accessing Exchange Server 5.5

Hello
I'm hoping someone might be able to help with a problem we have encountered. We would like to allow some of our XDA users to access their Exchange email accounts via the webmail interface using Pocket Internet Explorer. This all works OK but there is a slight security issue with Pocket IE on the XDA caching network credentials.
The first time the user accesses the webmail site they are asked for the username, password and domain details as we would expect. Once authenticated they get to the mailbox login and from here can access their account. No problem here.
All subsequent logins however go straight to the mailbox so the XDA seems to be caching the network credentials. The only way we have found so far to clear the "cache" is to reset the XDA. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any other way.
O2 say this is a known "feature / issue" and the solution is to upgrade our Exchange server from 5.5 to 2000.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Microsoft
The problem you are experiencing here is an issue with Pocket IE. This part of the PocketPC 2002 operating system, and it pretty much unmodified by O2 / T-Mobile etc. You will find the same problem if you use an iPAQ, Casiopea etc, so it's not something that can be specifically fixed by O" - that's really up to microsoft.
I initially contacted Microsoft Tech Support and was told that they didn't support Pocket PC and I should contact the supplier of the PDA (ie O2).
I'll try Microsoft again but in the meantime I'd be grateful for any other suggestions.
Reading other posts on the site it looks as if it might not be possible to update the version of Pocket PC on the XDA anyway.
Thanks very much for your help.

Exchange mail services (free / trial accounts available) includes push / aliases

hey guys from prophet forum!
had started this service out to TYTN users and figured i should spread the news around to some of the other boards. if you guys are looking for push email, please get in touch here's what i posted in the tytn forum:
I'm now offering exchange mailboxes to users (subscription based service). right now i see two, one by austindkelly in the wizard forum (he's disappeared for over a month and looks like he doens't offer his service any more) and one by denial in the kaiser section ($5/month). I thought I'd offer up a similar service starting with the hermes group (cheaper of course) with a few extra tidbits of joy...
- supports iphone exchange services, saves a heck of money over apple's mobileme service!
- outlook web access (with the advanced interface)
- 1gb quota
- both SSL as well as standard port options
- *IMAP access* - you don't even need outlook, syncs flawlessly with your phone.
- *MAPI* outlook access - hook up your outlook on your PC to sync with my service which in turn syncs with your phone. no plugging in ever needed!
- alias included (get your own email)
- changing your password through outlook web access (one-way non-reversible encryption).
I figured it's a bit of an overkill having my own exchange server that's serving a single account (i.e. mine). so why not open it up!
Price is $10 for 3 months, $19 for 6 months.
Please PM me if you're interested... I'll probably set up your account within 12 hours (probably less).
And yes, will give you unused credit money back etc etc if you're unsatisfied for whatever reason. I'm really not in this for the money, it's more to utilize something I spent hours building up, plus to cover the costs of my internet / server hardware.
And, as usual, if you need any files hosted for xda-developers just let me know, i'm already hosting over 40 ROM images and serving 5-6gb/day in ROMs from the wiki!
cheers!
free accounts:
will provide 10 rotating free accounts at any given time for test purposes, will base it off of usage. so if you use the free account, i'll keep it up indefinitely, if not then account will be removed after 14 days and given to the next person in line.
Free accounts have 50mb storage, and have no alias, and no MAPI access...
Depending on utilization I may increase this 10 free account limit.
two account requests from a couple of hours ago have been set up - please check your PMs
few people are asking about synching from multiple sources...
from my understanding i can only give you one alias for your accounts, which means you can't select your "from." however you're free to forward as many accounts as you wish to the account i create for you, but you can only send from one "alias."
another multi-synching thing people are asking is whether you can sync calendar with your desktop and email with my service. sure!! its best that way in fact - that's what i do. i have my outlook on my desktop which has my calendar, contacts, and only sync my email via push on exchange to my server... you can even take this a step further and set up IMAP access so what you see in your email client is the same as what you'll see in your pocket outlook... if you delete from your desktop, whoosh it disappears from your PDA too
this is stupid, why you people just sign up in gmail.com and start using all of the above, even better for free???

JAJAJAJAJAJA!!
MAPI (i.e. desktop outlook) access is now enabled
still plenty of resources to use up so drop me a line if interested!
Hi chameleon. I have sent you a PM - I am keen to give this a try. I have read through the thread in Hermes section. Glad you have MAPI sorted now.
Clearly Zeroed doesn't understand the power of Exchange Server!
I read that you are using Exchange Server 2003. Do I presume you have it patched with SP2?
Thanks for providing this service. I will comment here how it works out for me as a Prophet user.

hey richard!
account set up check your PM. yep, using ES2003 with SP2.
quick note: MAPI will be a subscriber-only feature, but i'd be glad to enable it for the test users (PM me) for testing purposes.
cheers!
going to take the server down for about 15-20 minutes this afternoon for a quick reboot and offline backup. planning for 3:00pm GMT. please be patient, hopefully it should be done much much faster!
Hi friend,
Any chance you would be upgradin ExServer 2007 in the near future?Would like to try that out...
hi there,
won't be upgrading to exserver 2007 unfortunately; my hardware doesn't support it
quick question - has anyone here managed to get this to work with outlook '07? if i recall someone had, but someone pointed out that they get an error message saying that this version of outlook has been blocked by the administrator, which just isn't true
updates: outlook '07 started working - user discovered you just need to enable cached exchange mode.
i also have a couple of trial accounts left for those i turned down last week if you're still interested, shoot me a PM
Quick update regarding update in the server!
I know I've had some VERY avoidable downtimes this past few months. Because this is running on a laptop it has been unplugged from the power / ethernet while its been moved.
however good news! I've just purchased a replacement - a nice server
Specs - dual core AMD 5600+ with 2 gb RAM, 820gb storage (for those attachments ).
i'll do the switchover soon as i get the machine, should hopefully take 10-15 minutes as i just need to image the drive across.
once i get the machine i'll push up the trial accounts to 15 or 20 so if you're interested i'll post here when the migration is done and you can drop me a note
cheers!
been getting a few PMs recently about whether i still offer this (maybe its the iphone crowd finding a cheaper alternative to apple's crazy crap service!).
yes i do and i think users can attest to the fact that since the upgrade to the new server been up and running at 100% since june!
drop me a PM if any of you need service. and yes, it is compatible with the iphone - i use it on my iphone too.
quick note - yes there was a 3 hour outage between 5am and 8ish am on saturday; sorry about that. seems my ISP went down, given how short the outage was and how this was the first one in god knows how long i didn't bother spending 1/2 an hour on the phone with them figuring out what the issue was will chase it up if it happens again though!
can someone who has successfully set up outlook 07 with my service PM me with the settings they've used? i need to get some instructions on my site on how to do it, and i don't use exchange 07 myself...
thanks!
UPDATE Now offering Exchange 2010 accounts - fully compatible with latest outlook, html email etc!

Did anyone get Exchange emails working yet? [CM 7.1.0]

SGH-i777 running CM 7.1.0 on Android 2.3.7. Carrier is obviously AT&T.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to add my Exchange account to the stock e-mail program. I've tried:
* Countless variations of server, domain, and username settings. I've followed this guide **can't post link** and several other guides. I do have access to my company's server information, and while I'm not sure which server is actually being used, I've tried them *all*, several times, and gotten nowhere. With a WiFI connection (no firewall) and just 3G data, signed in or signed out of Outlook Anywhere. No luck, just "Unable to open connection to server".
* K-9 connected to my account, but I was unable to see any e-mails - none would load, even when I had it force check. So I uninstalled it (would rather use the stock app anyway).
Is this a problem with my signal? I read that someone got help from their carrier - they made a custom APN, but that was in another country so I'm a bit skeptical. Can't call Samsung (it's Sunday) and their website offers no help. It's possible my IT doesn't allow phones to read mail, but that's highly unlikely - we've got lots of employees in the field, so this seems like common sense.
I did a lot of digging and this might be an old issue, but it gets pretty technical and I'm obviously a n00b.
What am I missing here???? PLEASE fill me in - I've put hours into this!!
It's quite possible that your IT group who manages your Exchange environment isn't allowing non-approved devices to connect. Typically these are security-certificate based and/or mandatory VPN requirements. I would suggest asking your Exchange administrator in your IT department about this policy.
Under Domain/username, did you try putting the "\" in front of your username? To configure mine I did this and had to use the host name as the Exchange server. Some things to try anyway if you haven't already.
Also ran into issues setting up under a public wifi at work, had to use the ATT network to make it connect for some reason.
I have my work exchange account set up.
Are you making sure to connect to the external exchange server (sometimes different from internal)?
Have you asked your administrator for exchange login details (my IT dept sent out a company-wide email once with those details)?
You might have to type the server name in manually if it doesn't auto-detect (the case with my work email).
Now, my work isn't as strict, but as the previous poster said; you're exchange server might not allow unauthorized devices to connect. In which case you'll have to contact your IT dept.
They may have simply blocked all android devices (until recently didn't support hardware encryption, and spoofed exchange permissions). If that's true, educate them.
The server name may be a link rather than a server name. Ours is mibile.XXXXX.com for example.
probably related to your company's settings. I run my own exchange server and got it sync'd fine with the current cyanogen nightly
I had problems with the stock email and our ms exchange server. I could set it up, but after a while it stopped syncing and I could never really get it back to work. I switched to Touchdown, and after a little trial and error with setup, it's working fine for me. There is a trial version for 30 days or so that you could give a shot. Happy to give you some pointers.

+1 for touchdown. I've been using it for about a year. It's far superior to any exchange solution the Google offers. I only wish it would populate Google calendar as it does the Google contacts. The UI is getting dated as well. I wish they would come out with a cosmetic update or theme capability.

Inconsistent Email (Exchange Server)

I have searched endlessly for an answer to my question and maybe I am missing something, but my exchange email service is very flaky. I carry two phones (iPhone 4s - work ATT and the Note - personal ATT) and the Note will just stop getting my exchange emails throughout the day. I have tried everything. Currently I am Dag Overclocked Kernel and Saurom RC4a but I went back to stock rom, I exchanged for a new note, and every thing I do the system still fails to deliver mail consistently.
I dont have Juice Defender running, I have no peak scheduling set up, and all power savings are turned off. Does anybody have any ideas? Can it be an exchange server configuration? My iPhone always works, and this is driving me nuts.
Jason
I was going to post this exact same thing. I have my email on my iPhone and my Note, both from the same exchange server. My iPhone consistently gets email long before my Note does.
Are you using office 365/exchange online by any chance?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note
We are using Exchange 2007, and we are in the process of migrating to the latest version. In the meantime, I installed Touchdown for Activesync on my Note, and it seems to be very consistent, in so much that it gets all my emails before any of my other devices, including my desktop at work!
I guess i will license a copy if it makes it through the week with no hiccups. Stupid that it cost 20 bucks to get my mail working correctly. I cant believe the default app on the Note cannot handle my work email needs.
Sounds like you are running an in-house mail server. I didn't ask which version of Exchange you were connecting to but specifically if you were using Microsoft-hosted Exchange as part of the Office 365 or Exchange Online program. They have a server redirection setup that some versions of the Android mail client do not understand, so when they change servers on you on the back end (which happens with alarming frequency) the Samsung mail client is unable to connect to the mail server. iOS devices know how to handle the internal redirection as do some versions of Android mail. But not the version on the AT&T Galaxy Note. ICS is rumored to fix this. Anyway, that's probably not your issue, but it is mine and my symptoms are identical.
I have Touchdown as well; it has a lot of features but I don't love the interface, and there's a lot to be said for having a single email client for multiple accounts. Default Android mail is woeful and has always been so IMHO. Have you looked at Enhanced Email? I would use that except it is very hard to deal with if you have many folders and you try to move messages from your inbox to your nested folders (I've submitted a feature request for them to handle that the way Touchdown does, but I don't think it's a high priority item for them because it's been missing for a long time).
Maybe you can troubleshoot with your Exchange admin when you fail to receive messages and they can look into debug logs.

Changing from rotten apple

its been a while since my last visit to xda-developers , was actively lurking back then since o2-xda era .
Since i switch to iPhone , i havent visit this forum anymore. but today is the day, where i break my exclusivity with Apple environment and use my first android phone for almost a decade long. The beast that i pick is Note10+ and boy im happy with the purchase.
Since im still tied with apple environment, i need several guidance to sync several data, read in some article and it seems not working well for me. I hope the gurus here can help me.
1. contact sync
i need bidirectional sync across my mac, iphone and android,
Firstly i export my icloud contact in mac address book to vcard and import to gmail account in mac address book, stranngely there are like 900 missing contacts......
can someone help me with this issue?
Secondly, i already add gmail account to sync all across devices, contact created from iphone and android sync correctly, but my mac address book seems didnt sync at all.
Seems like the issue is in my mac address book, can anyone assist on this matter?
2. text replacement/autotext
Are there any 3rd party apps that i can use across mac, iphone and android?
3. im open to suggestion to any compulsory tweak recommendation/app
thanks in advance
