[Q] Car Dock, Undervolting, and Overheating - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I finally got into a comfortable config using cm7 latest nightly with glitch 13. I can run OC 1.3 stable no problems, however it seems to always lock up when I run it with the Verizon car cradle.
I'm a pretty heavy user and run GPS google maps along with Pandora via bluetooth connection to my car's stereo. It seems this stress is way to much for my phone and has gotten to the point where it just crashes. I went down to 1 ghz and with UV (-100/-50) I still get the crashes. Only if I run 1 ghz at stock voltages does it seem to be stable. Still, sometimes the phone runs too hot and charging automatically shuts down. Does anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions? Just would like my phone not to use charge during use as a GPS and music streamer while still maintaining my charge. Phone runs fine when not plugged in. Thanks.

I used to get a problem like that with the most recent stable CM7 release and the v13 kernel, but the main thing was that I had a Tasker task that would run when I'd plug it into the cradle. Disabling the task would keep it from freaking out; I think maybe it's too much for the phone to handle at once. I also recently updated to the latest nightly with JT's kernel and never have an issue, so mileage may vary.

Warm Raph?

My Phone's pretty warm, never experienced this from a cell phone before. A guesstimate would be it's 15-20 degrees over ambient. Normal?

Sounds like the CPU is running full blast. Soft Reset usually fixes it.
Yeh battery is dieing fast, very fast, 20% a hour so far O_O
this same thing happened to me two days ago and i was so freaked out. even a soft reset doesnt fix. I switched ROMs but i think a hard reset will fix it
For me it was a soft reset. I had just loaded 21725 and went on the road using ATT Navigator. The Fuze got HOT and discharged at a furious rate...20% per hour or more. When I got to destination I soft reset, (turned off GPS as no longer needed), and did a car charger trick. It worked and did not repeat even though I used the gps again.

The Touch Pros or Fuzes are notorious for running hot if the GPS chip is being used.

Or wireless for that matter. If I leave my wireless on while charging it can get really hot
mine was getting hot enough to shut down and burning through the battery faster than the charger could replinish it
Mine would get very hot using BT when I had MSVC installed. Now I use ROMS w/o MSVC, and the only time it runs warm is using ATT Navigator. I solved that problem as well with creative use of dental floss and a big paper clip to secure it to a vent while running the air conditioning ;P
I haven't come across anyone else having temp issues using MSVC, but in my experience using a dozen different ROMS or so, it has always caused my phone to run hot - and I don't like hot electronics.
Out of curiosity, anyone else hold the same opinion of MSVC?
Not MSVC alone, but the more processes running from start up like MSVC then of course the harder the processor works which equals heat. Add multiple processes with Wifi, 3G connection, & GPS or any number of other processes with the heat from the LCD & it'll heat up quickly.
Unless I am using the net, I usually force GSM or Edge mode. Battery lasts longer & unit stays cooler.

Thanks GSLEON3,
Now you've done it. The monkey on my back wants more!
Must... Flash... Test... Voice... Control... MUHUHAHAHA
I suppose it's worth checking out and seeing what exactly "enhanced" means for myself. If I can control the temp, I'll like using it.

[Q] Vibrant locking up and shutting down

Hello, my wife and I both have Vibrants and she has been having battery draining issues for the past week or so. She obviously says she didn't do anything or put anything new on the device. I have installed the same ROM on both phones and other than apps/games, they are the same. We have Axura 2.3.1.2 and a battery meter mod installed.
I have tried swapping batteries between our phones, didn't fix the issue. Swapped back to original batteries.
Ran through the wipe battery stats, fully charge, wipe stats in recovery, fully drain till shuts down, charge completely without interruption. Still has the draining/shutting down issue
She mentioned having issue with updating her Facebook app, so I uninstalled that this morning and she continues to have her device drain very fast, shut down periodically, unable to restart without a battery pull.
Would reinstalling the rom help? what are some other options I can do before wiping clean and starting over in hopes that solves the problem?
If you need any other info, I will be glad to get it for you.
Thanks.
What kind of battery life are you getting? For instance, what's your idea of poor battery life? Also, what does your wife use the phone for?
You may want to simply try a different ROM. Axura hasn't been updated since March. The most recent Froyo ROMs are Toxic8 and Zendroid.
I am using Toxic8 with the Bali 1.2 kernel and Juice Defender Plus, ... and getting 30+hrs with music (mp3 and streaming) all day long, some surfing, a lot of XDA. Sleeps over night and JD+ kills radios from 12-6am so nothing is sending data btwn those times eating up battery.
I just rebooted today to make a back up JIC but my uptime was approaching 300hrs. Heard good things about Zendroid too but I'm on Toxic8 and like it quite a bit.
Is she watching vids (video player or Tubes) or listening to online music/shows all day? Is her Facebook/ G+/ Gmail set to auto-sync? She must be running something that you are not to get the off balanced battery power like you say.
had a similar problem on project v, turns out that sync was getting stuck on my picasa and wouldn't go any further, unchecked for it to sync and problem solved...

[Q] Heat issues with ICS

Is anyone else running into heat issues with ICS ROMs? I recently did the downgrade method and I am S-OFF 1.40. I flashed an ICS ROM and I've noticed poorer battery life, but also my phone gets extremely hot if used for extended periods of time (an hour plus). It seems to only be when I'm on a 3G connection and not when on WIFI or 4G. I've noticed the heat is coming from the top half of the phone and not the battery.
Interesting. I've noticed the opposite-my phone runs cooler and has longer battery. Since the phone is running warm, it sounds like a runaway process or app that is taxing the CPU and draining the battery. You could try Watchdog to monitor for runaway apps. Also, try BetterBatteryMonitor or some other app that tells you what is draining your battery.
Thanks. I'll give those a shot.
Apparently the culprit was Dolphin Browser. I guess the new update that I downloaded around the same time I rooted and flashed ICS is causing the battery drain. Time to look for a new browser.
Try Dolphin Mini and with a CPU frequency switcher, you can specifically choose how your processor will behave.

i9100 + GPS + overheat

Hey guys, I was recently testing different android GPS apps (copilot and sygic so far ) and I noticed my phone warm up noticably upon running those apps with GPS on. I tried flashing to a KH3 modem firmware (as suggested by some members of these forums) but that did not change the behavior. I tried two different programs and it overheats in both. Is this normal behavior? !
It is kinda normal.
Sometimes it gets a little better when using another modem but not really much better.
Good luck
Dip
It's actually two problems.... the heat and the rate at which it drains when its hot... I went down from 91% to 55% in a 1.5 hour trip with nothing but GPS on..
1) Modem has nothing to do with GPS.
2) Yes, normal for phone to get hot when you use CPU/GPU intensive apps, tho this might be a rom/kernel issue. I find mine doesn't get above high 20's C when using GPS for a while. Do you find the phone heats up a lot when you use other CPU/GPU intensive apps ?
3) And yes, GPS does drain a helluva lot of juice. Best thing you can do is get a car charger & plug the phone in while you're using GPS to offset the drain. Is losing 36% over 1.5 hrs of GPS use normal ? I don't know that there is a 'normal' so far as drain is concerned (it's variable). I guess other people might be able to give you a better idea of that than me, or you could try other roms & see if you get similar results with those.
Anyone else had a similar experience?
For the heating problem, you should try speedmod kernel, or phenomenal.
And if you have any doubts about the battery drain, take a look at, let say, a Garmin GPS device. Unplugged they don't last more than 3 hours. And they have an awful resolution, a tiny processor, don't use network, and a dedicated OS.

[Q] Flipboard causing temp increase?

So I was using CM7 Stable and everything was running smooth until a couple of days ago, when I noticed the phone was getting hot, just sitting idle temps were about 100°F when usually it is about 15° cooler. I switched back to Nottachtrix and had the same issue. Through process of elimination, I realized that the only thing different in my apps and settings is that I had recently installed Fipboard.
I just uninstalled it and will monitor temps today to see if that was the cause, but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience.
Thanks.
Two hours later and temp is at 79°F. So for now I am staying with my flipboard theory.
