To write this I have basically pulled together all of the most pertinent information about upgrading and downgrading the streak into one big guide. Enjoy!
I would like to thank everyone who wrote guides that helped me with upgrading and downgrading my Streak.
If you are just getting started with the Streak, please read the What you need to know about the Dell Streak guide. Amongst other things this guide will show you how to set up fastboot and how to use it, which is essential for these guides. It's very easy to follow and has pictures! (Thanks Radddogg!)
READ EVERYTHING VERY CAREFULLY! THE GUIDES AND ALL FILES BELOW ARE USED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Make sure you have over 80% battery life before you do these guides!
Table of Contents
Starting from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601)
Starting from O2 1.6 (build 4399)
Upgrading from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to Stephen Hyde's 2.2
Downgrade from Stephen Hyde's 2.2 to O2 2.1 (build 8105) & Downgrade from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) with Baseband Downgrade
Starting from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601)
You do not need to root your streak to upgrade to O2 2.1 so if that's you just skip to the Upgrading from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) to O2 2.1 (build 8105) section. If you are not planing on upgrading but would like root access, you will need to unlock the Unknown Sources setting first.
Unlock Unknown Sources:
Open the phone dialer and type: *#*#307#*#* (the screen will flash and seem like nothing happened)
Go to the app drawer, you will now see EMList, open it (if it doesn't show up try a reboot).
Scrool down and select app_security
Select update unknown resource property to enable it
Go back to home screen and go Menu > Settings > Applications > then select Unknown Sources. To remove the EMList application, go back into the dialer and type: *#*#308#*#* After a reboot the EMList icon will be gone from your app drawer.
Gaining root access:
Download Universal Androot and install it.
Open it up and select Superuser for Android 1.5/1.6 in the drop down menu.
Tap on Go Root, after a few seconds it will tell you it was successful. If it fails the first time tap it again and it should work.
With the Universal Androot app you can unroot at any time by opening the app up and selecting the Undo Root button.
Upgrading from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) to O2 2.1 (build 8105)
To go from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) we need to go to O2 1.6 (build 4399) and then upgrade to O2 2.1 (build 8105).
Download the stock recovery ROM from the first post in this thread and the official Dell ROM from here.
Rename the Dell ROM Update.pkg and copy it to the root of your microsd.
Put the recovery image you downloaded into the same folder as the fastboot.exe.
Turn off the Streak and put it in fastboot mode by holding down the camera shutter button then press and hold the power button until a white screen comes up.
Tap on the Fastboot button in the top right corner.
You will see Wait for USB Fastboot detect, wait 10 seconds and then plug in the usb cable from the computer.
The screen will then change to say Fastboot_Mode. In windows go to Start > Run... > type: cmd and hit enter.
Now navagate to the fastboot.exe file with the cd command.
When you get there type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.stock.img
When it says Download RECOVERY Done! on the Streak pull the battery and remove the usb cable.
Put the battery back in and hold the volume up and down buttons down while pressing the power button, it will boot into recovery menu.
Select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.
The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 1.6 (build 4399).
Now your AT&T Streak is on the same build and version of Android as the original UK O2 Streak. If you've made it this far upgrading to 2.1 is a piece of cake.
Download the O2 2.1 (build 8105) file in this post.
Rename the file to Update.pkg and copy it over the old file in the root of your microsd.
Turn of the Streak.
Hold the volume up and down buttons down while pressing the power button, it will boot back into recovery. Be patient it will take a while.
Select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.
The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 2.1 (build 8105).
You can use Universal Androot to gain root like above only select Superuser for Android 2.0 ~ 2.2. It will say it failed but if you do it again it will work.
Original sources: here & here
Starting from O2 1.6 (build 4399)
Gaining root access:
If you would like root access on the Stock O2 1.6, go into Menu > Settings > Applications > then select Unknown Sources. Apply Universal Androot just like the AT&T 1.6 users above.
Upgrading from O2 1.6 (build 4399) to O2 2.1 (build 8105)
Download the O2 2.1 (build 8105) file and the Stock recovery (build 4399) file in this post.
Rename update-8105-21.pkg to Update.pkg and copy it to the root of your microsd.
Move the stock recovery image you downloaded into the same folder as the fastboot.exe.
Fastboot should be in the "tools" folder in the Android SDK you downloaded.
When you get there type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
When it says Download RECOVERY Done! on the Streak pull the battery and remove the usb cable.
Put the battery back in and hold the volume up and down buttons down while pressing the power button, it will boot into recovery menu.
Select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.
The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 2.1 (build 8105).
Upgrading from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to Stephen Hyde's 2.2
download Stephen Hyde's 2.2 update zip from here.
Rename update-new.zip to update.zip and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
Download recovery.alt.zip from here.
Move the recovery image into the same folder as the fastboot.exe.
Put your Streak into fastboot mode.
Open up command line type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img
Hold down both the volume buttons and type: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot in command line.
In recovery select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. In the ClockworkMod recovery menu select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card and then Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip. Once it's all done select reboot system now.
To enable data go Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and check off the Data enabled button. Then select Access Point Names and manually add the apn info for your carrier.
You should be all set up and ready to go with Froyo!
If you want to gain root use Universal Androot (download information seen above).
If you don't like the new screen density you can change it whenever you like by going into the /system folder and editing the build.prop file. Just change the line ro.sf.lcd_density=140 to ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to go back to default (changes will take effect after a reboot).
NOTE: There is a problem with the market where certain apps will not show up and to my knowledge we still don't have a fix for this.
Downgrade from Stephen Hyde's 2.2 to O2 2.1 (build 8105)
Download the O2 2.1 (build 8105) file in this post.
Rename the file to Update.pkg and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
Download this zip file which contains a recovery for downgrading here.
Move the recovery.img file to wherever your fastboot.exe is.
Put your Streak into fastboot mode.
Open up command line type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.stock.new.img
Hold down both the volume buttons and type: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot in command line.
In recovery select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.
The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 2.1 (build 8105).
Downgrade from O2 2.1 (build 8105) to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) with Baseband Downgrade
First we must downgrade back to O2 1.6 (build 4399).
Under the heading ROM downloads (pkg format) download the Build 4399 ROM pkg from here.
The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 1.6 (build 4399).
If you just wanted to revert to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then you are done. If you are going to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) we have to change the system so it will upgrade the the AT&T ROM.
Download the official AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) ROM from here.
Rename the file to Update.pkg and copy it over the old file in the root of your SD Card.
Download this boot.img file from here and place it in your fastboot.exe folder.
Download this file and unzip it. Take the three files out and put them on the root of your SD Card.
Use Universal Androot (download information seen above) to gain root so you can use Root Explorer to copy files to the phones internal storage in the next step.
Use Root Explorer from the market to then mount the /system partition with r/w permissions. The first time you run Root Explorer it will ask for superuser permissions, click Allow and then copy recovery-from-boot.p from /sdcard to /system, copy install-recovery.sh from /sdcard to /system/etc, and copy applypatch from /sdcard to /system/bin
Put your Streak into fastboot mode.
From command line type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash boot boot.img
Then type: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Once it has booted fully into the Android OS shut it down and go into recovery mode.
In recovery select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.
The Streak will reboot and you are now on AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) with the Stock Baseband.

If you are having trouble with fastboot read the "What you need to know about the Dell Streak guide." I posted a link to the pdf in the very beginning of the post. It will show you how to get fastboot going.

Navagate to the /system folder. At the top of the app it has a little gray button that says Mount R/W, click this once and it will change the folder to Read/Write so you can copy files or change file names, etc. After you're done you can tap the button again to change it back to R/O (Read/Only).

Thanks lufc.
Steve updated his 2.2 release today and I have edited the guide to reflect this.
Thank you so much...I am on 2.2 and everything work perfectly...Went from 1.6 US to 2.2 without a hitch and everything is working no bugs at all...Nada!!!!!
Issue going from AT&T 1.6 6267 (00) to O2 1.6 4399
All - I apologize in advance if this has been answered already (I'm sure it has somewhere as there's a ton of threads on these issues, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for).
I'm trying to go from AT&T 1.6 6267 (baseband 00 - US Beta) to O2 1.6, 4399, in preparation to jump to 2.1. I get through the fastboot with no issues, but when I try to do the software upgrade via Update.pkg I receive the following:
E: No signature (972 files)
E: Verification failed.
The recovery then starts but about 15-20% in, the Streak reboots (and boots into the existing 1.6 O/S). I've tried 4 or 5 times, with the same behavior.
Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
-ag100
Disregard my previous post.
I was able to use the recovery ROM located here: http(colon)//android.modaco.com/content/dell-streak-streak-modaco-com/316229/19-aug-streak-2-1-downloads-how-tos-rom-superboot-recovery/, and then go straight to 2.1, 8105.
Thanks,
ag100
Good guide dude, clears things up. I might try it at some point. Good work

I have done this 3 times now and although every thing looks like it works and every thing happens just as this guide says it should, after the last step About-Phone still shows 6601.
What am I missing here? I have the unlock code from AT&T so it is working with my TMobile SIM card, I have root, I am not new to adb/fastboot/flashing (G1/G2/ZT-180). I cannot upgrade this firmware with any of the FW files using either of the two recoveries.
NEVERMIND: ...you should say you have to press the camera button twice. I was just pressing it once and then letting recovery timeout and reboot (you said press it once and then wait a long time, and pressing it again sounded like repairing a rom rather than flashing a new one). Now that I tried it and the familiar icon/progress-bar appeared, I realized I was never programming it -lol.
I was gazing at #dellstreak on twitter the other day I came across the following post

I remember when I upgraded my Dell Streak that the instructions weren't 100% user friendly so I thought I'd give him a hand.
What actually came out of it was the following tutorial.
I will end up going through and properly acknowledging authors (I've done a blanket one currently)
Hope fully this tutorial might help other people and simplify the process quite a bit for them.

Upgrade from o2 2.1 to StreakDroid FroYo v1.5.3
I have tried to make things simple as possible, however you will need to assess if YOU are comfortable running these commands, if not please don't bother.
Whilst I have black screened and froze my device may times and that it "looks" bricked / dead, a restore to the original baseband/rom/recovery image has always solve it for me, but I'm not saying it will for you!

What your doing.
**************************************
I will try explain the best I can what it actually is that you will be doing.
You will be updating the recovery image to a custom one (it does the firmware upgrading), updating your
baseband (a 2.2 gsm/gprs driver) and then installing the new firmware.
Once you have flashed to DJ_Steve's StreakDroid firmware updating it is very, very simple (copy the update to the SD and load it from recovery) it is literally a 5 minute job.
**************************************
Warnings
**************************************
Whilst I have had black screens and recovered very easily from them it has taken me literally HOURS to do so.
Upgrading via this method whilst quite fool proof should only be attempted if you are confident, however bare in mind that the reward is well worth it.
This is the usual "it's YOUR phone, if you break it you break it and I will not be held responsible" blurb.
**************************************
On to the upgrade
**************************************
So your on V2.1 (the o2 **** up) and you want to get to StreakDroid 1.5 because o2 are dragging their collective asses? and
you have already downloaded all the tools above of course? Good! Lets begin!
Extract "The Fastboot tool" to c:\fastboot
Rename "fastboot-windows.exe" to "fastboot.exe"
Extract "The Clockwork Recovery Image" to c:\fastboot
Extract "The new Baseband" to c:\fastboot
Extract "The 720p HD video patch" to c:\fastboot
Install "Dell PC Suite" "R290208.exe" then "Updated Dell Streak PC Sync Tool (eclair 2.1).zip"
Turn phone off
Make sure your USB cable is unplugged
Press Camera and Power until you see a white screen
Press the touch screen on the top right (Fastboot), the screen will change.
Count to 10 (honestly, just do it as it saves a whole load of headache)
Plug the cable in.
Go to device manager (Control Panel>System>Device Manager).
View "Other devices" should be a "Android 1.0" device with a yellow warning symbol
Right click -> Update Driver Software -> Browse for the driver -> Let me pick -> Show all -> Google, Inc -> Android Bootloader Interface.
Ok, Next, Next, Yes I'm sure, etc. Until the drivers have loaded.
Now when you check (Control Panel>System>Device Manager) you should see an "Android Phone" section with the "Android Bootloader Interface"
*********************Point of hard return********************
*****Past this point you will actually flash the updates*****
*************************************************************
Open a command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
goto c:\fastboot
***flash custom recovery***
in command prompt:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img
wait until your device displays "Download RECOVERY Done!"
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
hold camera + power.
unplug the USB cable
enter fastboot again (top right)
count to 10, connect the cable
***flash new baseband***
in command prompt:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash amss amss.mbn
wait until your device displays "Download AMSS Done!"
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
unplug the USB cable
Let the device load into the android os (one loaded you should notice the phone won't connect to o2, this is normal)
After booting connect the phone up as a usb device
Copy "The StreakDroid FroYo v1.5.3 firmware" to you sd card
Rename "update-1.5.3.zip" to "Update.zip" (it's case SeNsItIvE)
Power down the device
***Loading the Update***
If you choose you can leave the USB cable connected for power (although I would recommend you have 40-60% battery life and leave the cable unplugged).
Boot the device holding vol up + vol down + power
You will see a black screen with white writing (vol buttons are up/down, camera button is enter/ok)
Enter "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" (This takes you into the "The Clockwork Recovery Image" used to update via a unsigned zip file)
You will now be on a black screen with green writing
Enter "apply sdcard:update.zip"
Go down to "Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip)
This will load the update
***Factory resets and wiping data***
(I am not sure if the clockwork factory reset and dell factory reset do the same so I run both to make sure.)
Enter "Wipe data/factory reset"
Enter "Wipe cache partition"
Enter "Reboot system now" (after entering "Reboot system now" quickly hold vol up + vol down)
Enter "1. Factory Reset"
Enter "4. Power off"
Power you device back on (Power button on its own)
You will find that the first boot it will seem to hang on the Dell logo for upto 20 minutes, leave it hanging for 20 minutes.
Congrats you should have v1.5.3 loaded with the Android 2.2 goodness.
***Optional HD video Fix***
Turn off you device
hold camera + power.
disconnect the cable
enter fastboot (top right)
count to 10, connect the cable
in command prompt:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash dsp1 dsp1.mbn
wait until your device displays "Download DSP1 Done!"
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
***Updating StreakDroid***
Now that you are on StreakDroid upgrading to a new version is very simple.
Download the latest version as listed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8509320&postcount=1
**READ THE FIRST POST!** to make sure that it isn't going to require a factory reset or any other special instructions.
Copy the new .zip file to your sdcard
Rename the .zip file to "Update.zip" (it's case SeNsItIvE)
Power down the device
Boot the device holding vol up + vol down + power
You will see a black screen with white writing (vol buttons are up/down, camera button is enter/ok)
Enter "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" (This takes you into the "The Clockwork Recovery Image" used to update via a unsigned zip file)
You will now be on a black screen with green writing
Enter "apply sdcard:update.zip"
Go down to "Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip)
This will load the update
Enter "Wipe cache partition"
Enter "Reboot system now"
You will find that the first boot it will seem to hang on the Dell logo for upto 20 minutes, leave it hanging for 20 minutes.
Click to collapse
Please let me know any feedback, corrections, and so forth.
If it seems no one is interested in it then I'll just let to wander into the cyber graveyard.
on the following:
***flash custom recovery***
in command prompt:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
hold camera + power.
disconnect the cable
enter fastboot again (top right)
count to 10, connect the cable
***flash new baseband***
in command prompt:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash amss amss.mbn
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
I would put something like "wait until you get the message on your Streak FINISHED UPDATING" before rebooting, or you know someone is going to say "you didn't say to wait!"

No problems, sounds like a good idea to state to wait. However you cannot type fastboot -i 0x412c reboot untill it's finished anyway.

I will write a quick explanation that the "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" takes you into the clockwork recovery mod.
Thanks for the feedback.

sucess! finally!!!! I am been strugling going from 02 2.1 to streakdroid. Everyone keeps pointing to the upgrading and downloading post instructions which doesnt work if you follow the o2 upgrade step. I kept having to revert back to o2.
This worked perfect first time.
One thing I noticed was "Extract "The StreakDroid FroYo v1.5.0 firmware" to you sd card"
You dont actually extract the zip or its not a zip anymore. just download and move to the root of your sd card and rename.
It took me a second to realize but someone else may miss that.
Thank you!!!
Thanks this instruction works on my ATT with unlock 2.2

Of course, I would be more than happy to help you.
When you select "Software upgrade via Update.pkg" what do you get? typically if you have flashed the Clockwork Recovery Mod you will get one of two results:
1) Nothing i.e. a blank screen.
or
2) A black screen with green writing.
If for some reason you don't get either of these results please reflash the clockwork recovery mod.
***flash custom recovery***
in command prompt:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img
wait until your device displays "Download RECOVERY Done!"
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot

If however you get a blank screen then please download:

Hi, I am all new to this android thing, and since I'm plug & play kind of user, all these data only confuses me.
So i'm beging for help...
My dell streak was bought in Croatia (europe), T mobile, but device is unlocked and I'm using "tele2" network.
Firmware on streak is 1.6. build No. 6267
I don't know what guide to use for upgrade to 2.2.
I've got a notiffication for upgrade, but as I'm using limited mobile internet, I cannot connect to my home wifi, (Iskon + Carnet) it is somehow protected and you can only connect to it through windows on computer; and I don't know how MB will it take.
So please, help this ignorante woman to figure out this thingy
Did I mentioned I was blond?
Dr.Dellka,
If you are getting an update notice on your device then based on your "plug and play" description of yourself I think you would be better leaving these unofficial updates and using the official one that you device is showing you.
typically an update is between 100-200MB.
Without connecting your device to a internet connection for the update the only other way would be to download the .pkg file and transfer it to the root of your sdcard, reboot holding power+vol up & vol down and then select "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card".
Unfortunately because I haven't looked into this method of official update I do not currently know where to source the official Update.pkg file. Hopefully someone else on the forum will be able to help with this.

need your help qisback, i have being trying to update from o2 2.1 to to dj steve's 1.5.1 now for a few days and still no luck . im having problems with the fast boot.i get up to fastboot-mode and then open command promt and type goto c:\fastboot.enter and then.fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img. and thi is what i get .fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.i don't anderstand why i have done step by step as you have described on post 1 . i really need your advice. thanks in advance
Check in the c:\fastboot folder there will be a file called fastboot-windows.exe rename that to fastboot.exe and you should be good to go
yes i have done all that. i feel like pulling my hair out.
Hello The Monster,
I'm sorry to hear that. Typically if you are getting "not recognized as an internal or external command" style responses from the command prompt it's because either:
a) The file isn't in the right place/called the right thing.
b) Your not in the right place/calling the right thing.
So long as you have done the following
Extract "The Fastboot tool" to c:\fastboot
Rename "fastboot-windows.exe" to "fastboot.exe"
Click to collapse
You should then be able to do the following in the command prompt
cd c:\fastboot
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.alt.img
Click to collapse
**wait until your device displays "Download RECOVERY Done!"**
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Click to collapse
Please try the above, if it doesn't work then please take a screenshot of the following:
**make sure the error has just occurred**
Select the "Command Prompt" window
type "dir" and press enter.
Press Alt + Print Screen (this will capture just the "Command Prompt" window.
Open MS Paint (either via start or run -> mspaint.exe)
Paste the clipboard (either edit -> paste or ctrl + v)
Save as a jpeg and attach to your next post.

If I'm reading this right, I see two problems: 1) the fastboot file has no extension. it should be "fastboot.exe", not "fastboot"; 2) the file size is 0 bytes.
Try deleting the 0 byte "fastboot" file, re-extracting the "fastboot-windows.exe", and renaming to "fastboot.exe"
And to qisback: nice work! I appreciate your effort in explaining what you're actually doing. When I joined the unofficial android upgrade bandwagon a few months ago, I had a heck of a time, largely cause I didn't have a clue what i was trying to do, nor if i had completed each step successfully.
@The Monster I have to agree with Gtg203a the file doesn't seem to be correctly named it should have an "exe" extension and it's file size is 0k. As suggested a fresh download of the fastboot archive and extracting it as per my guide should sort the issue.
@gtg203a I'm glad you found the guide clear and informative, we've all been in a situation where a nice simple guide would be really handy which was the idea of this tutorial. I certainly know that I was in exactly the same place as you a few months ago.
I would normally try give more details and quote posts but as I'm away for a few days I'm using the XDA App and it seems to lack these quick functions or I can't find them and I don't fancy copying, pasting and writting quote tags on an android device (even if my phone does have a 5 foot screen and resembles a house brick).

Hi, i can´t install Official Dell Streak ROM (file extension .pkg) i reboot in recovery mode (Hold VolUp+VolDown while power on) second i select install update.pkg from sdcard but not install, only enter in Recovery Mode clockworkmod (I get message on screen when load recovery E:can`t find MISC:

Thanxs for help.
Put the Stock Streak Rom in root of your SD Card. Rename it to "Update.pkg"
Install first the stock Dell Recovery attached here (unzip it first) via Fastboot "fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery dellstock_recovery.img"
then reboot "fastboot -i 0x413c reboot"
When the screen turns off, press vol up & vol down for entering recovery
then press the camera button to confirm update (second option from the top)
after few seconds the stock recovery will ask you if you want to proceed the update - > press the camera button and voila, you´ve done!
Info: Your clockwork recovery will be gone, since you have flashed the stock one. To get the clockwork recovery install it after you successfully installed the stock streak rom

I appreciate the help, perfect and fast, follow these same steps above but still black screen (I guess dellstock_recovery was not valid).
Thanks for the valuable help and quick response.
When exactly you get stuck on black screen? after you confirm the second option from the top in recovery?
What is your Build-Nr. (Stock Rom) 318? 319? The recovery.img attached here works flawless with 318, i din´t tried it with other builds... maybe you should search for the stock recovery which fits your build of stock rom...

Questions or Problems are not Android Development
Please Post in the correct Forums
Moving to General
I have exactly the same problem. I'm a newbie with android rom flashing. I can enter fastboot mode by pressing the camera key while powering on. I then connect it to the computer and the phone says "fastboot mode". After that, this is what I do:
Open command prompt
type adb devices (i've added the path of adb in the system variables so i can access it from everywhere)
it tries to look for devices but cant find my streak
I type the fastboot command that you talked about (i have unzipped the image file etc), but it cannot find the command.
What am I missing here?
The reason I want to go back to stock rom is because StreakDroid doesn't work on my mobile and Cyanogen's GingerStreak mod 7 works only for a few hours and then restarts my mobile every 10-15 minutes and doesn't detect the headphone connection either. All I wanted was superuser access in stock rom but installing superuser bricked my phone and now I've tried using custom roms but want my stock rom back.
@Moderators: If you move the thread to some place else, can you please post a link to that thread? It's very difficult to find the continuation of the tread without a link. Thanks anyway.
peaple.. tks for all
Going back to the Stock ROM
I've resolved my problem. I think there needs to be more clarity on how to go back to Dell Stock ROM
Dunno if it's required but I had ADB path set in my system.
To Download:
Dell Stock ROM (find the rom. I found it somewhere and now i've got so many roms on my computer, i don't know which one's the correct one. You can find Eclair floating around somewhere) Found the package, it's 1.6. You can update it to the latest version through DELL later. http://www.MegaShare.com/3295716
Dell Stock Recovery (for fast boot stuff) http://www.MegaShare.com/3295642
Process:
Rename the Dell Stock Rom to update.pkg
Copy it to the root of the sd card. You might need a micro-sd card reader if your mobile is bricked. Any other mobile with a micro-sd card reader will work too.
Turn off your bricked mobile, if it's on. If you can't, then just take out the battery.
Press and hold down the camera button and then click the power button. Don't release the camera button until you see a white screen
Select Fast boot mode on the top right on your mobile
Now connect your mobile to the computer
You will notice that it says Fast boot mode on your mobile
Now on the computer, unzip the stock recovery into a folder.
open command prompt (XP=Start\run\cmd, Win7=type cmd in the text box and hit enter)
Navigate to the path where you unzipped the recovery file (cd is the basic command you need. If you don't know dos commands, then you shouldn't be rooting in the first place)
type 'fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery dellstock_recovery.img' without the quotes and hit enter
type 'fastboot -i 0x413c reboot' without the quotes and hit enter.
unplug the mobile from the computer, grab a beer, sit back and relax while your mobile get's unrooted.
HOPING IT MIGHT HELP....!!!!!
IF IT DOES DUN FORGET TO THANK....
Here is an article which will be discussing all about the rooting the device, getting streak mod recovery menu, flashing customized ROMs and lastly How to get wicked customized BOOTANIMATION uploaded on the customized ROMs.
BUT BEFORE I PROCEED ANY FURTHER I MIGHT WARN YOU THAT ALL THE STUFF MENTIONED BELOW WORKED FOR ME AND HENCE FORTH I AM POSTING IT BUT WHEN UR FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS BE SPECIFIC TO THE POINT AND FOLLOW IT AND YOU ARE DOING IT ON YOUR OWN RISK I AM NO ONE TO BE BLAMED IF YOU MESS IT UP.IF STILL YOU WANNA BLAME ME SURE YOUR ARE WELCOME.
Now this article will be one stop for everything when the word customization comes to your mind
and its the result out of my research on all the information provided on the internet not only on the XDA DEVELOPERS but else where too. Without wasting much time lets proceed.
1. ROOTING YOUR DELL STREAK :
Downloading the file : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1044765
Video For Reference : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hifk15SbHVQ
ROOTING THE DEVICE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY
About :
The GingerBreak APK is a wrapper around the newly released GingerBreak exploit (credits to The Android Exploid Crew), which is meant to attain root access on GingerBread. This specific exploit*may*work on various Froyo and Honeycomb versions as well.
What the APK and exploit do is as follows:
- The APK puts the right files in the right place to run the exploit
- The APK runs the exploit
- The exploit attempts to attain root access
- If it succeeds, the exploit remounts /system as read-write and runs the installer script
- The installer script attempts to install the su binary and superuser APK, and reboots
Some important things to know:
- You must have USB debugging enabled on your device
- You need to have an SD card (formatted and) inserted - if it doesn't work, try formatting the SD card in your computer, or switching it with a different (or old, etc) SD card
- The APK must be installed to device, NOT SD card
- The exploit may take a while to run, but not more than 10 minutes, if it does, get me a logcat, and reboot the device. In rare occasions, even if the device does not reboot, you may still have root. So check that out after you manually pull battery after 15 minutes or so of being stuck.
- Always reboot between root attempts!
- While (temporary?) root access may be attained, due to locked bootloaders, efuses, S-ON, and whatnot this may still not work on your device. For temproot purposes, use the raw binary exploit (linked below), not this APK.
- The GingerBreak exploit should not be used to attain temproot and continue using the device. It fscks vold, you do not want to be running like that. You want to reboot! So if the root doesn't stick, you (still) have a problem.
Installation :
- Make sure USB debugging is enabled
- Make sure you have an SD card (formatted and) inserted
- Get the APK on the phone somehow, and install it
- Open the APK, press the root button
- Wait a few minutes. If there are no problems, the device will reboot (note that the reboot itself can take like 10 minutes due to cache wipe)
- Make sure the Superuser app is install and working
- Optional: Install BusyBox from Market (I personally prefer the stericsson installer)
- Optional: Uninstall GingerBreak, you don't need it on your phone anymore
WARNING: Apparently on some devices the root exploit causes the SD card (internal or external) to be formatted. Also, if it gets stuck but you do see the card mounting/unmounting, try formatting your SD card yourself and try again (or use a different SD card) - often this works*.
However there are many other applications to root the phone but the gingerstreak was the one worked for me and i used .you can check on net and will get other applications too eg: SUPERONECLICK,etc.
2. Getting the streakMOD Recovery menu :
DOWNLOAD FILE : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
Note : in the streamMod recovery menu to navigate up and down use the volume rocker keys and to select use the camera button.
HOW TO INSTALL THE RECOVERY :
Step 1: Unzip and flash with: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Step 2: Reboot with: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Step 3: Hold down the keys "volume up" and "volume down" simultaneously while the device is rebooting.
Step 4: Select "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" in the menu
Step 5: At the Dell Logo press the power button and you will be presented with the Recovery Menu
Now all the newbie will be having only one question in mind what does the term FLASH here refers to...i was also struck by the same...Honestly, it took me one week to crack that term.
Here s the answer :
FLASHING is nuffin but running a handfull of commands which i will be providing you,you can just copy and paste it but the way you write and run those commands it the real deal.
Link for streakmod revovery resource:
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
Steps OF Flashing (FOR WINDOWS USERS) :
CONSIDERING YOU HAVE ALREADY ROOTED YOUR DEVICE
STEPS TO BOOT INTO RECOVERY :
LINK : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S23rG...re=context-chv
THE ABOVE LINK IS JUST TO ASSIST YOU HOW TO BOOT INTO FASTBOOT MODE HOWEVER IT SHOWS THE WAY OF FLASHING THE STREAKMOD RECOVERY WHICH DIDNT WORK FOR ME.
Step 1: MAKE SURE THE USB DEBUGGING IS ENABLED.
Step 2: TURN OFF THE DEVICE REMOVE THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND REPLACE IT.
STEP 3: PRESS THE CAMERA AND THE POWER BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME AND KEEP IT PRESSED UNTIL A WHITE SCREEN WILL APPEAR.
STEP 4: IT WILL BE SHOWING “WAIT FOR SD DETECT” THEN AFTER THE MENU COMES UP ON THE SCREEN WAIT FOR LIKE 15 SECONDS APPROX
STEP 5: CONNECT YOUR DEVICE(DELL STREAK) TO THE PC AND THEN PRESS FASTBOOT OPTION ON TOP RIGHT CORNER OF THE SCREEN.
STEP 6: THEN WAIT FOR LIKE ANOTHER 15 SECONDS AND FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE PROVIDED BY ME OR IN THE VIDEO LINK I HAVE POSTED ABOVE...ITS COMPLETELY YOUR CALL.
NOTE : clockworkMOD WORKS ON ANOTHER ANDROID DEVICES BUT streakMOD Recovery works on DELL STREAK
Step 1: You need fastboot/ADB tools http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii...stboot+ADB.zip
Step 2: Unzip to a folder; say C:\Fastboot+ADB
Step 3: StreakMod recovery: Download the file recovery-v0.3.2.8-beta.zip (3.57 MB) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326. Unzip and copy ‘recovery.img’ *to fastboot tools directory*(i.e. C:\Fastboot+ADB\Win32\recovery.img)
Step 4: Now Open the command prompt and by using the 'ls' command and 'cd' command navigate to the folder and your command prompt line show b exactly like C:\Fastboot+ADB\Win32\>
Step 5: Now copy and paste the command fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img, and you will find the mobile screen changes and displays something with an exclamation mark at the end....it means the Recovery image that needed to be flashed is done.
Step 6: Now all you need is to enter the next command in the command prompt on your computer screen fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
while the device reboots itself hold the VOLUME UP AND VOLUME DOWN or simple the VOLUME ROCKER keys.
link for using instructions on streakmod :

NOW IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO FLASH THE BASE BAND (OPTIONAL) :
Note : IT TOTALLY DEPENDS ON THE CUSTOMIZED ROM YOUR ARE FLASHING SOME ROMS eg : DJ steven's GingerStreak 2.4.4 required you to flash both the DSP and the baseband Whereas if you are going to flash the Ten's Longhorn 2.9.1 as its the latest it wouldnt require the flashing.
Incase you have to flash the DSP and baseband
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1333010
Note : Go to the page and download the link of the DSP and AMSS provided on the bottom of the page and then do exactly instructed :
Step 1: You need fastboot/ADB tools http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii...stboot+ADB.zip
Step 2: Unzip to a folder; say C:\Fastboot+ADB
Step 3: StreakMod recovery: Download the file recovery-v0.3.2.8-beta.zip (3.57 MB) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326. Unzip and copy ‘recovery.img’ *to fastboot tools directory*(i.e. C:\Fastboot+ADB\Win32\recovery.img)

Decent tutorial, but you're making this far more complex than it need be. The Streak is perhaps one of the easiest devices to root in that it doesn't require a one-click root tool to do it. Instructions.can be found in the XDA Wiki here. The one thing that seems to trip people up when rooting the Streak is letting it boot completely after installing StreakMod or ClockWorkMod. After installing the recovery, immediately booting into the recovery will allow you to install Superuser, which is all you need to root a Streak. Once rooted, let the Streak boot completely, use a file manager to rename or delete install-recovery.sh, and then install the recovery again. Install-recovery.sh is a script which restores the stock recovery on every boot. Renaming the file prevents it from running.

Basically, the thing is what all i did for Flashing a customized ROM on my DS5 and like wise all the research i did in that regards is all mentioned, including some MODs developed by able DEVs which basically were distributed in different pages all i did is put'em together for sophisticating the readers and getting the most out of it....
I really appreciate your effort for the time that you have incurred in reading the article and sharing with me some fragments of your vast knowledge...cheers
Regards,
moid
The only reason I mentioned the Flashing Guide itself is to point out what it says about one-click root tools. They're not necessary and they can brick the Streak if they issue a fastboot -erase command after they are done. Fastboot -erase is pretty much a death sentence for the Streak.
Hi,
My dell streak was restarting after each 10 min; by exploring the issue i got to know a re-flash of ROM is required!!
I explored Xda forum and got the way of flashing stock ROM but after doing flashing now my phone stuck at dell logo.
Phone Description: ROM version 318, build 12821 and had followed the below steps to flash ROM
1.download drivers from www.dell.com to recognize my phone to PC , while updating the dell streak usb driver in your PC
2. then download the recovery image of 318 from the following link http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak
4. download update package 318 from same link.
5. download multirecovery flasher " http://www.4shared.com/file/p22LB2uD/MultiRecoveryFlasherv051.html" and unzip it in c:\ drive
6. rename the update package into update.pkg if its in other name
7. place that update.pkg into sd card and recovery.img into the multirecovery flasher folder and name that multirecovery flasher into some easy name like "streak".
8. then make sure that dell streak is recognized in your computer
9. then turn your dell streak off and wait for 5 sec and then press power button as well as camera button at the same time and it will show a white screen with fastboot option on the right top side
10. then wait untill there is a msg like, 'waiting for fastboot device'
11. wait for 10secs and then plug your usb cable of dell streak into your computer.
12. wait for fastboot mode_ txt.
13. then go to the command prompt in your computer (press start-accessories-command prompt)
14. then type ('"c:\.......) cd\ " )
15. then type (" c:\)cd streak ")
16. then type ("c:\streak)fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img ")
17. press enter, and wait untill success report pops up.
18. then type ("c:\streak)fastboot -i 0x413c reboot "") and remove the battery
19. dont let the phone reboot instantly press both volume up and down as well as the power button at once
20. then phone will turn on in recovery mode
21. select option "2. upgrade rom from update.pkg from sdcard option" with the help of volume down key and press camera button to start then
BUT AFTER THAT PHONE IS STUCK AT DELL LOGO NOTHING HAPPENING....
PLEASE HELP!!
