Anyone notice how unsmooth all the launchers are when scrolling? - Motorola Droid RAZR

The only smooth launcher is motorolas own launcher, every single market launcher is unsmooth when scrolling, is this true for everybody else? Does anybody else know a launcher which would scroll smoothly on our razrs?

Launcher Pro works flawlessly, before and after updating.
My tab's Flyer than yours! Unless this is posted in a Flyer thread, then it's just as Flyer...

Yes horizontal scrolls are lagging for me

I use go launcher ex and it is smooth as silk. Blows every other phone I've ever had away. Makes my GF's DX feel ten years old, and even my DX2 is slow in comparison.

Using Launcher2, the stock Android Gingerbread. Seem OK to me. The default Motoblur also OK and not bad at all.
I am not picky about the smoothness of the icons' scrolling, just what one of my iOS fan friends told me. The overall system performance, reception and stability are more important than menu scrolling. IMHO.
Thank you.

If you want smoothness then you should go for a WindowsPhone, but ADW Launcher is coming close. In fact, even launcher pro has been running very smooth on the Razr so maybe there are some settings you've missed?

Go launcher, ADW and launcher pro all work smooth for me. Both horizontal and vertical scrolling are flawless.

Go Launcher Is the smoothest launcher that I have tried way smoother then the stock launcher b 4 the update

Bulletproof your launcher. Google it. Involves using terminal.
Makes it buttery smooth. I do it to every phone/launcher I touch.

Yes I noticed laggy Launcher... I use 360 Launcher beta 1.2 (the best launcher ever)
He works smooth on my HTC Desire HD
But with my new Razr, Lags...

ADW Ex working very smoothly on my Rogers branded razr.

I believe ADW is so smooth due to the fact it uses harware accelerators. Go Launcher simply runs off the phones RAM so it can become laggy at times.

Pretty sure Ander Webs said hardware acceleration is not utilized as it breaks backwards compatibility. That's close to quotable. It was on Google+. He wants to use it but to fully upgrade ADW it would have to be a separate app.
Again guys, use the terminal suggestion I mentioned. Works wonders. Takes away redraws as well.
Here it is for those that don't Google:

It works for all launchers. Makes a significant improvement in stock blur. Trust me.

^^Thanks, Ill have to give that a try
I run adwex and its always been my launcher of choice but it does hang up at times and gives a unresponsive screen at times also. I also don't think it likes to play nice with the moto launcher periodically as i get com.home.motorola fc's a lot with it running, don't know if anyone else has had that happen...maybe just my device. Still, it isn't a problem I can't live with just occasional nuisance.

Well, on anderwebs website it says "Use of hardware acceleration on specific features when possible."
Not sure if that means it device specific or what, but all the websites I usually read from even report ADW uses it.
and this was listed under the latest update too

I'll have to find the Google+ article and link it. I read your link though. That sounds very vague though, almost like he's covering his you know.
He almost sounded frustrated in the post I'm referring to. Now I have to find it. Lol.
But I do agree with a lot of you, ADW is the best. New update was nice too. But use that trick I mentioned. It'll make it better

Yeah definitely if you can find it post it. I would LIKE to believe what dev's claim but sometimes it can too good to be true.
I haven't rooted my razr yet, I did my bionic and my other droids. Not having a fastboot in case I get into trouble was a little bit of a turn off. I know there is a process but it sounds like a pain.

It's just as easy as the bionic man. Put Safestrap on afterwards, make a backup immediately, and you're fine. Safestrap is a wonderful safety net. Boots into recovery everytime. As long as you make that stock backup you're good.
I can help if needed.

You will have to scroll down through the comments to find Ander Webb. However, it's a great read, so I would recommend reading the entire article and all of the comments.
EDIT: Here is his quote: "This is a great post, I wish 99% users would read and understand it. But unluckily they just want their hardware acceleration turned on and the magic powers of it doing everything fly.
On a more technical note, I've noticed how expensive canvas operations (save layer, porterduff filters, etc) run about 2-4 times faster in software layers than hardware layers, and noticed how great hardware layers perform when using drawing caches.
The bad part is: for a developer, usually there's no easy way of changing the rendering pipeline while maintaining backwards compatibility. So I end up still doing almost everything on a canvas and loosing the benefits of the hardware acceleration for new devices: (" --Ander Webbs (ADW creator)

Aspiring ROM makers are welcome to take this and theme it and add whatever apps they desire.

Wow. Haven't tried yet but if this is truly working I see great things coming from this base soon.

Official twitter app buggy/laggy

Has anyone else found their twitter app laggy and slow to respond to touch especially when scrolling? Its really bad for me so much so as I'm using another app for now. I'd prefer to use the official version. Does anyone know what the problem might be.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
It is gingerbread. There's a video on YouTube called something like "android is now as smooth as iOS" the video shows the difference when the GPU is allowed to regulate use in ICS.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Actually, it's laggy on both my Galaxy Nexus and my Note ...it's not really related to Gingerbread or ICS because the official Twitter app sucks on both and I've noticed it for a while now. Hopefully they fix it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
Yeah, it has to do with Gingerbread, not the phone itself. I saw the same YouTube video, where the user forced 3D GPU rendering on ICS and the twitter app was smooth as butter. It has to do with Android not defaulting/forcing the full use of the GPU for rendering, probably has something to do with battery life. I think if you are on ICS, and have Developer Tools in the settings menu (probably some custom rom has this enabled) then you can force gpu rendering.
Read here. They recently updated, and the article was nice enough to mention the Note specifically!
I just updated it. It's not 100% smooth, but it is probably 100% better than it was 2 days ago. It was almost unusable before...
I update and found it to be better also

Is Twitter serious. to post comments smaller then a text message I have to ramp my GPU up to waste power??

What is wrong with this phone?

I opened the Google Music Application and it decided to form it in landscape instead of portrait, oh well. My real gripe here is how the phone seems to be able to handle more effects and images smoothly in landscape rather than in portrait. I scrolled through all my albums in landscape without a hiccup, no reloads of album art or skips while scrolling and it seems even smoother to scroll than in portrait. In fact, as soon as I switched to portrait it froze n force closed.
Is there a reason for all of this?

For real. I've messed up one step here n there while flashing everything. It's really crucial to 1. Wipe data. 2. Clear cache. 3. Clear dalvik. Then flash everything in order, wether it be the ROM itself or the gapps. It's like number one to follow whatever order the Dev's instructions are. I cant tell you how many times I've had to SBF and redo everything in order for everything to run smooth and no lag. Barely any fc's as you stated. So yes, I think a fresh start and a clean install is exactly what you need.

Just wondering if its just me, when you open Chrome BETA (cold start, meaning you have not previously opened it and it was not started previously) does it just start go to the regular white screen and stay there for about 10 seconds before loading?
Thats the one thing i hate, if that was fixed, i'd be back on Chrome, I'm on Dolphin HD right now and it opens in less than 2 seconds of my tap.

TouchWiz refreshing / redrawing

Hey guys
I've noticed if I'm in an app for a while and hit the home screen or go back to the launcher it refreshes. I see a blank screen (wallpaper only) and I can see the icons and dock get redrawn. I've had the galaxy note before this and that phone never did it. It takes between 2 and 3 seconds to redraw.
It happens with other launchers too.
Anyone know why? It's quite annoying.
Sent from my GT-I9300T using XDA
Confirming. Maybe a software issue.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
My best guess would be that the system is low on resources and kills off the launcher. The launcher's OOM value might be too high.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
So best hope at this stage is a custom Rom which addresses the issue??
Sent from my GT-I9300T using XDA
Yeah, some sort of "keep launcher in memory" would be nice to have. We won't get this until we get better custom roms though.

Does anyone know if the Custom ROM 'Omega v4.0' for the Galaxy S3 has the option (like Apex Launcher) to KEEP IN MEMORY..?
The ONE and ONLY reason i want to change ROMs is because my homescreen widgets and icons are CONSTANTLY re-drawing whenever i exit an app, and its WINDING ME UP!
Does the same for any other launcher!!
Apex launcher (whilst kept in memory) seems to be better, but i would prefer the stock launcher so was thinking of changing to the Omega ROM.
Can the Omega v4.0 ROM be 'KEPT IN MEMORY'..?
No, it does not include a keep in memory function. You could try the SuperCharger script though to make your launcher hard to kill.

This works for me.........
Faster home screen scrolling; change value 256m > 128m ;
dalvik.vm.heapsize=128m
Force launcher to stay in memory; add to build.prop
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
Doubt it's placebo, but seems to be working Very little redraw with TW Launcher
Edit: Just make sure you still have ONE clear space as the last line after editing with the in-phone text editor and reboot for changes to stick.

Credit though to whoever first discovered the tweak, just sharing and trying to help out. I've previously cooked these tweaks (and others) into personal ROMs, and also found in allot of custom public released ROMs I've flashed on various devices here in XDA.
I don't think its placebo, and can see greatly reduced TW Launcher redraw. Clock/weather widget is much better.

Confirming I also have this issue.
I've read some people saying the new firmware update should fix this issue. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
If not, then I will probably have to look into rooting my phone, getting a bit tired of freeing up RAM every 1½ day.
Perm solution is to increase the ram
That should be the reason why they increase the RAM from 1GB to 2GB
I will be doing it as soon as i can source the 2GB RAM from eBay.
Anyone know this?
1. firware upgrade does not fix this issue
2. if this doesn't happen on the S2 then there is no way this is a ram related issue. it's a software related issue maybe not managing ram correctly. but it can be fixed with a software solution.
