FIXED [Q] Bought one that was water damaged..it boots.

I bought one of these phone's really cheap. The owner could not get it to boot. They had not tried a new battery. I opened it up and discovered a lot of corrosion on the USB part of the PCB, everything else "seems" O.K. I cleaned the corrosion from the USB PCB but it does not charge and the computer doesn't recognize it. I ordered a new battery, wall charge dock unit, USB pcb and a loudspeaker assembly about a week ago. Today I received the new OEM battery in the mail. I popped it in and the phone booted up. No real problems except it's locked to a provider I don't have any interest in using. Since USB is broken, I have to wait until the PCB part is delivered to replace it. I also noticed the home button (center plastic button) is not working. I have no problems keeping a stock ROM but I need to root to unlock it and this requires USB. My question is this, am I going to have any serious problems rooting and unlocking the phone if I can't get the Home button functioning?

I think you need the home button to get into download mode. I might be mistaken though (need download mode to flash insecure kernel from Odin)

u should clean the corrosion with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a new tooth brush as for the home button sadly you need to remove the whole entire screen to get to it.. but once ur there just take the plastic off the click and use an eraser to clean it ,yes a pencil eraser..... this also works on blackberrys when there is water dmg on the buttons....

I have already done that, the damage is too extensive on the USB PCB. Going to wait for the new part. Thanks for the home button info though. Is there a USB jig that can auto root these phones?
It's rebooting after turning off because of the USB port/circuit damage. A new one will fix this easily. You can root it without the home button using DoomLord's root toolkit.
Yayah!!

Wanted to thank you again. I replaced the USB flex cable and used Doomlord's to root and used an App off the market to SIM unlock it. Sweet things, loving this phone! Just need to replace the home button. I am using button savior for the home button for now.

Faulty power button, cant start up

Hi guys,
I have a galaxy s2 with a broken power button. The flex cable is snapped so cant start the phone up.
Does anyone know of a way to start the phone up?
Also is there a way to assign for example the home key for startup?
There is possibility to use usb to wake up the phone like usb jig. When my phone had problems with usb port jig was waking it up to recovery, where you got possibility to reboot phone to start normally. So its all about finding good resistancy of "boot jig" (lets call it this way ) and to make it. Just my free thoughts... maybe there is other way, but I never heard about it .

Replacing usb port on s3

I recently bought a s3 to repair and resell.
The phone has 2issues
Broken digitizer
The usb port doesn't charge or is recognized by the pc.
Does anyone know how i replace the micro usb port?
What i know:
it's not connected via flex cable, is soldered to the board. so will need soldering
To replace i need a hot air blower, my soldering gun has that function.
Please tell me more

that's pretty much it. desolder the old one, solder a new one on there.
Does anyone have good resolution pictures of the usb port on the motherboard, so i could know what im getting myself into.

Dear Glebun and other users,
I'm thinking of replacing the Micro USB port on my black GT-i9300. I've had charging issues some time now. First I had to some ' tricks' examples: Turning off, getting it to charge then turn on. Repeatedly jack the cable in and out. Rebooting and what not.
However now it wont charge at all. When plugged in to the wall socket it just stays at the level it is (when not using and screen off) when plugged in and using it the battery drains. Also my laptop won't reconize the device. (also won't charge when pluggen in the laptop).
I got this phone from my brother who has installed Cyanogenmod on it.
Now what kind of equipement do I need exactly? And do I need to work with some anti-static armband?
I am more interested in how you plan to fix the digitizer and make money on it?

[Q] xperia mini pro black screen after flex cable install

good afternoon,
My xperia mini pro sk17a has a black screen.
Prior to this occurrence, I had a bad flex ribbon cable to the sliding keyboard. Screen would go black and come back with sliding keyboard motion. Opened the phone and found that the cable was torn. Decided to buy a replacement flex cable and installed it. Everything looked okay but...
Once I put the phone back together, no screen at all. If I turn the phone on, there is a very very faint amount of light present (you can only see this in the dark). The phone does boot, and the notification light will flash indicating new messages. I can call the phone and it will ring.
Hoping that this might be some sort of software reset, I tried flashing with the SUS software. No help, phone still behaves as described above. I'm guessing I need a new screen (maybe damaged it somehow taking the phone apart?), but has anyone gone through this and know of a solution other than more new hardware?
Thank you in advance for any help or feedback.
I think new flex cable is also damaged. You should check flex cable in another SK17.

Xperia z2 won't turn on

Hello. I read your posts about xperia z2. Unfortunately nothing is working. I don't know too much about the phone because is not mine. It's possible to have taken some water inside. At the moment no matter what I do, only the red led turn on when I plug it to wall charger or usb pc. It is not responding to any buttons or hard reset button under the sim slot. Most of the post are about flashing. But how can I flash if the button are not working? When I open it the battery had 3v. I charged it to 4,2 v but still not working. I also tried with the battery cable unplugged. Do you think there is still something I can try at this moment or it's batter to buy a new motherboard? Thank you in advance.
Have you tried to hard reset using power and volume up? Have you tried to flash via flash tool? If that doesn't work I'm afraid you have to buy a new motherboard.

Hold volume down while pluggin in the usb cable (connected to pc).
LED should turn Green, then you are in flashmode. If pc recognizes phone, try to flash a stock tft firmware.
Thank you for your answer. As I said, the phone is not responding to any button inputs. I tried power, volume -,+,red button under sim tray nothing is working. The only thing it does is the red led turning on when I plug it to usb. I read that a new battery could turn it on. I think the battery is good as long as it holds voltage.
At this moment I am trying the rubber band trick. If this doesn't work probably I need to change the mother board. I looked at the mother board and I can't see any damage (broken connectors, traces of fire...)

looks like just flash red led, no charging. When trying to turn on I can hear some clicking sound from motherboard, like small relay or something.
