[Q] how to upgrade MiniCM7 version and nAa kernel - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

what is the way to upgrade from MiniCM7-2.1.3 to MiniCM7-2.1.6 (and thus from kernel nAa-03 (or whatever number was when 2.1.3 was released) to nAa-07)?
Do I just follow the normal procedure as if I had original SE rom?
thanks

1.Do a backup using CWM recovery.(this is just for safe, if smth goes wrong)
2.Download miniCM7 2.1.6 and put it into your root folder on SDcard.
3.Flash the latest nAa-07 kernel.
4.Boot into recovery, and flash the rom.
P.S. You don't have to do full wipe/factory reset.

thanks man.
I have to upgrade 2 x10minis and one x8. I suppose the procedure for all 3 is the same?
- x10mini 1: has MiniCM7-2.1.3 with nAa as explained above, you replied for this one.
- x10mini 2: has an older MiniCM7-2.0.x, at that time there was no nAa kernel. So it has original kernel
- x8: this one has older version of GingerDX with original kernel too.
Is the procedure the same for 2 and 3, but first I have to unlock bootloader I understand?

First backup everything from cwm or x10 recovery
now, if u didn't unlock the bootloader do it. Nice tutorial here
then u need a few tools like flashtool and nAa kernel. Flash it using flas tool.
all u need to do is click and click. I got it on my first attempt
Next get the Rom u want it and from CWM flash it. Good luck !

If you unlocked bootloader while installing miniCM7, you don't have to unlock it twice. This depends on what rom you are goning to install. Also if you want to flash kernel, you have to unlock bootldr.

[Q] MiniCM7-2.1.6 & nAa-08 Kernel

Hi guys
After unlocking bootloader on my SE Xperia X10 Mini, I flashed nAa-08 kernel and then MiniCM7-2.1.6. During the installation, however, I noticed that the ROM requires nAa-07 kernel, while I flashed nAa-08. All was still fine, but I would like to know if there are any known problems or if I have to flash nAa-07 kernel

it should not have major problems but it would be much safer and faster if you used the same rom kernel with the latest MiniCM7-2.1.7.i bet you it wont let you down.
I used the latest nAa kernel with his latest MiniCM7-2.1.7 and its just off the hook(VERY FAST AND STABLE)- PERFECT !!!

I could try, but i have X10 Mini, not Pro. Probably a new porting for X10 Mini will arrive in few days
I hope so, at least
Would it be better to reflash nAa-07 kernel for now?
Naa forget to update the updater script, use always the last kernel!

TY to everybody
The MiniCM installation guide states to flash the latest nAa kernel.
Newer kernels are usually better than older ones.
I doubt nAa would remove features with new kernel versions.

Exactly. I followed the instructions, but CMW Recovery was unable to find the nAa-07 kernel and suggest me to flash it. That's all.

Yeah Thanks, all went well. Bootloader was unlocked, nAa-08 kernel was installed. MiniCM7, too.
I wanna just saying that (maybe) there is a minor bug in CWM Recovery. In fact, it doesn't recognise nAa-08 kernel.
Not so worrying...Please, try to understand me, i'm just a n00b

[Q] MiniCM7 without nAa?

Hi,
I want to put the MiniCM7-2.1.9 on my X10 Mini Pro. At the moment I have Froyobread v023f installed
Baseband: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
Kernel: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
Do I HAVE to flash a new kernel (nAa)?
Where can I see that my Bootloader is unlocked?
Greets
You do need that kernel, the rom won't work without it.
Have a look in the Development section for SE Tweaker, that'll tell you if your phone is unlocked.
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
If you never installed a custom kernel, your bootloader is locked so you need to unlock it before installing the kernel.
Latest MiniCM versions (from 2.1.0) need nAa's custom kernel to work so you have to install it or install a previous release of the ROM (I'd suggest 2.0.5)
use this to unlock your bootloader and flash a the nAa kernel - easy and quick

As far as I know, MiniCM7 works only with his nAa kernel, so your bootloader has to be unlocked. MiniCM Pro by paul-xxx uses stock kernel or custom kernels (nAa kernel with that rom will give a wifi error).
To check if you bootloader is unlocked. Use S1Tool and check the loader version. If it's a lower cased 'r' then it's unlocked, if not there are many tutorials around here to help you unlock your bootloader. Hope this helps.

It's got all the details that you'll need just make sure that you read every single line thoroughly.
If you make any mistakes than you can use sony ericsson update service to reset it back to the stock SE rom.
Btw I recommend that you use the flash tool to unlock bootloader and to check if its unlocked as Noobonic said use the SE1Tool.
For me I'd say that MiniCM7 is the best custom rom that exists right now but since we have to flash the nAa kernel it seems kind of risky at first but if you understand the steps and follow it properly than there's not much to worry about.
The other ROM's are also quite good but the MiniCM7 is the best and most stable custom ROM.

[Q] How to have Multitouch on x10i mini stock rom 2.1 update1 with stock kernel??

In that case, there are a few froyo-based roms (srom-froyo, froyobread) that include this particular module, don't know if those links are still working, try to search the x10mini development forum to find them

Do they require unlocking of bootloader .Actually I am afraid of this purpose. Is there any GB rom that can be flashed without unlocking bootloader on stock kernel 2.6.29 Thanks for Help.
You only need to unlock your bootloader if you need a custom kernel.
All the froyo roms run on the stock kernel, so they can be installed without unlocking the bootloader.
GB roms all run on a custom kernel (on the x10Mini), so you need to unlock the bootloader for that.
If you get S1Tool and post the output, i could probably provide you with some guidance on the safety of unlocking

Yeah !! in the output It shows SEMC something with capital R . Actually date is 10w29. Flashtool is big file and I have a slow connection... Smthng else for unlocking bootloader
it should say semc-simlock certificate, and 10w29 is ok too. you can get the manual scripts for unlocking the bootloader in a slightly smaller package, but the point about unlocking the bootloader is to install a custom kernel... you will need flashtool for that... lol.
I would say, try one of the froyo roms if they're still available, i'm pretty sure froyobread with the hotfix can be downloaded and they can be installed on the stock kernel. but then, those are big downloads too on a slow connection

Then flash the rom through cwm

Go into CWM and install MiniCM, stock will not boot on the nAa kernel.

Update your phone to 2.1 using the Sonu Update Service or PC Companion first, because you need the latest baseband-firmware...
Then check to see if you can successfully unlock your bootloader.
If it unlocks succesfully, flash nAa-13 or nAa-14 kernel with flashtool and install the MiniCM7-2.2.1 ROM from your sd-card
If you can not unlock your bootloader, install an older Gingerbread ROM like MiniCM7-2.0.7, which runs on stock kernel but also includes App2SD. It can be found in nAa's Google-code page.
1-my device already 2.1
2-how can i unlock the bootloader?
3-how i do flash nAa-13 or nAa-14 kernel with flashtool and install the MiniCM7-2.2.1 ROM from your sd-card?

You can unlock the bootloader from the plugin-menu in flashtool if it is safe to do so... there is a tutorial on how to check that...
You put the nAa-kernel file in the firmwares folder where you installed flashtool, then you choose the flashbutton, select the kernel and follow the instructions.
Before that, put your ROM on your SD-card so it is accessible.
If you look at the MiniCM7 thread, and click on the DOWNLOADS text it will send you to nAa's google-code page where you can find the older versions too.
If you want to try that, Root your phone with Flashtool, then install xRecovery with Flashtool and then flash the ROM from your sd-card.
thanks for help brother, i already did root so what is the fastest way to do it?

Need Little Help

Hey guys,I own optimus one and I m used to rooting and stuff but my brother owns xperia mini pro so I need to install cyanogenmod (9 or10) whichever is stable.I had gone through various guides and stickies yet I want to be dead sure that I don't mess up my brothers handset. Its kinda new coz bootloader needs to be unlocked and also kernel image needed to be flashed separately unlike in optimus one.
Now I want help of you guys in the following manner like:-
1. My brothers mini pro is on ICS 4.1.B.0.587 and the rooting tutorial provided here for the said firmware
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0 is not clear to me coz it says that first I need to install some kernel [only mini mentioned here] then next I need to flash another kernel according to firmware. Can someone explain what is being done in this and why rooting is so complicated in this.
2. Certain ROM's say that you need to flash kernel first using flashtool
My query is that all ROM's that I flashed till now on optimus one included kernel and I only needed to flash ROM zip through cwm.. So do I need to flash kernel everytime I flash ROM!! and isn't there flashable zip for kernel too!!
3. FXP ROM's do not contain things like what's working and what's not, it only has issue tracker so it become difficult for new comer to know the bugs in ROM. Can anyone tell me the least bugs cm9 & cm10 ROM and what are the bugs present.
4. Lastly, should I proceed like this!!
i. Root device (though method isn't clear to me)
ii. unlock bootloader
iii. install cwm (I guess I can do this using flashtool)
iv. backup current ROM along with kernel (for future use,I know its optional)
v. flash kernel using flashtool
vi. flash ROM through cwm.
I m a quick learner and I just need some guidance on this new device (double checking coz its my bro's device) . Looking forward for support. Thanks

You needn't root first if you want to unlock bl, just unlock bl and flash a custom kernel (in most custom kernels cwm is included).
Backup your rom and install the rom...
hmmm....
1. Unlock Bootloader........
2. Flash Custom Kernel (all custom kernel is per-rooted and have CWM).......
3. Boot into CWM and Flash CM9 or CM10 (factory format/wipe dalvik/cache).....
4. Boot into Fastboot And Flash FXP kernel for CM9 or CM10.....
xperia phones aren't like sammy, lg or htc where recovery is a separate partition from kernel. in fact, by default xperia phones doesn't even have "stock recovery" like on other phone. by that we integrate cwm in kernel ramdisk.
and to answer the question:
1- flash custom kernel mean't for your phone only, never ever flash kernel intended for other phone. and its done via fastboot and should be flashed before flashing rom.
2- like i said u can't compare xperia phone with other phone like sammy etc, its different. kernel must be flash via fastboot.
3- for cm10, bugs that i notice is slow accelerator, but fixable with some text editing, and non working front camera for lww and minipro.
4- should be like this, according to order:
- unlock bootloader.
- flash kernel via fastboot.
- boot into cwm.
- backup rom if u want.
- wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. don't wipe system partition or u will get error when flashing rom later.
- flash rom, and gapps if its cm/aokp/pa rom.
- profit :good:
thank you guys.... this made me clear...
one last thing :- which kernel should I flash on stock 4.1.B.0.587 which is pre rooted and have cwm after unlocking bootloader.I mean the one compatible with above firmware and also do I need to do anything with baseband or will it be compatible. After this m ready to enter the custom xperia world
