I start wifi tether for root users on my G1.
I connect to it from my netbook.
Problem:
I don't see it in the list of wifi networks on my dell streak.
I cannot connect to the G1 wifi tether from my dell streak.
I am baffled.
I don't know where to start to trouble shoot this.
How Can I be writing this from my windows 7 netbook on the G1 wifi tether, but I can't connect to it on my streak.
The streak has no sim card in it right now.
I've got the same issue with Wireless Tether App.
Streak (unrooted 2.2) can't see the SSID broadcasting from a Moto Bravo (rooted 2.1). Ipod Itouch sees and connects fine.
I also tried Barnacle tether to no avail.
Any other suggestions?
Check that the source of the wifi network is not using a channel that the Streak does not support or isn't using. Go to wifi settings and then tap Menu->Advanced and select Regulatory domain. I believe that AT&T locked Streaks only work on channels 1-11.
Just a random thought.
Thanks for the reply.
I don't see the REGULATORY domain option after ADVANCED.
All there is : WIFI Sleep policy, Mac addrss, IP settings. etc.

What country/carrier are you in/on?
For instance the AT&T Streaks are, I believe, limited to channels 1-11, so check the device you are connecting to make sure it's not using a channel your Streak can;t see.
I'm from the U.S.
I followed through with your steps instead, failed to comprehend the channels reference.
Anyway, yes I did gothrough the different channels of the host phone. 1, 10,9,8,7,6, and 5. I stopped there. SHould I proceed?
Here's some info on WiFi channels
Since the US normally only uses channels 1-11 I thought that your issue might be that the device you are trying to see was using channel 12-14, which would prevent you from connecting. If you have confirmed that the device is using a channel from 1-11 then that's not the issue.
Try setting up the device that is acting as the access point with a different type of security and make sure that it is broadcasting the SSID.
You might try WiFi Analyzer from the market and see if it sees the access point.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I don't understand why Streak would not see the SSID when the ITOUCH and computer can.
I even tried running the Wireless Tether App by way of Blutetooth, and the STREAK won't even see it.
I don't have my GSM card in the Streak, but that would not be an issue would it?
The STREAK detects and runs off of my home WIFI fine with no GSM card.
I'm stumped.
Anyone else running a different Tether App besides Wireles Tether and Barnacle that the STREAK can run off of?
This is the info I got from running Wifi Analyzer:
HOME WIFI:
"LateRain",00:1e:e5:a0:45:cb,[WPA-PSK-TKIP+CCMP][WPA2-PSK-TKIP+CCMP],2422 MHz,Channel 3,-66 dBm
PHONE HOST tether:
"Ness",02:00:00:8e:1f:7d,[IBSS],2417 MHz,Channel 2,-27 dBm
I have no idea waht that means.
I tried connecting to the "NESS" SSID via Wifi analyzer and it won't let me, gives me error "ADHOC not available for Android platform yet".

Andoid does not support ad hoc networks yet. there are mods yopu can make to do this. It is included on StreakDroid 1.8.1.
Search the forum and you will find more info on ad hoc networks.
Thanks, without being a total drain.. I did do some reasearch on Ad Hoc too.
Thanks a bunch, I'll look into mods, and the app you referred to.
I too am having this same issue with an Eris phone and Dell S7.
My wife has the Incredible and the S7 sees her wifi "3G Hot Spot" just fine.
I also for the sake of getting connected tried a Blutooth PAN and that failed.
Is there a similar method or application for a rooted android as there is for the Incredibe? If this can be duplicated then problem solved.
Hello folks!
I've been running WiFi Tether for a while now and it's been running just fine on my Droid x2 in ad-hoc mode. However, I was lucky enough to pick up an HP Touchpad from the fire sale, and after a little while in IRC, discovered that it doesn't support ad-hoc!
Thinking, "Ok, no sweat; I saw an option to change it in the settings," I set to my task of changing the mode.. However, lo and behold, it wasn't an option =(
So, I pose this question to you fine people:
Do you know how I can go about setting up my Droid X2 in Infrastructure, rather than ad-hoc, tethering mode?
Thanks for your time!
Various threads exist, 1 is here and I posted a bounty thread here
Since upgrading my TP the ping via Speedtest is much slower. With gingerbread ping was 28-30, ICS ping is in the range of 40-60 in the same location.
Is this a ICS thing?
I dont know much about the wifi protocols in android ICS.
Anybody else notice this?
I noticed a little better results. But I'm assuming you mean honeycomb to ics

Your ping time is dependent on network and server traffic. It has little to nothing to do with the local host.
Run Terminal Emulator and type "ping 127.0.0.1" or "ping localhost". My ping times are one half (1/2) to 1 millisecond.
You won't need root for this test.
hello i am new user of razr (xt910) from malaysia
i facing some problem when log on wifi can't load to android market
but when use 3g can..any one here facing same problem or any solution which i have done wrong when set up

My guess is that your 3G is being rooted through a proxy in a neighboring country where the Android market IS supported. There are ways around this but they generally require that your phone is rooted.
Depending on your wireless router and internet service provider you may be able to setup a static IP address and proxy for your phone.

Hey using the evo 3d, rooted, sos rom.
I having issues with wifi tether. newest version. Where did they put the "MSS Clamping" check box go?
I never seemed to have this issue when I was able to check this box. Some reason it is no longer found under options. only routing fix.
heres my problem without check MSS clamping>>
When the phone is tethered. all my devices connected have issues loading only certain websites correctly. It is like the web site "style.css" isnt loading or something, and known of the photos load.
thanks

I don't think that your problem is MSS clamping, which is a rather obscure parameter for TCP that the WiFi tether developers decided to take out. Here's a definition for it from a Wikipedia article:
A workaround used by some routers is to change the maximum segment size (MSS) of all TCP connections passing through links with MTU lower than the Ethernet default of 1500. This is known as MSS clamping.

It sounds like your problem is more likely related to a cache for the browser, or possibly in a proxy server somewhere in the network. Although many people have specified MSS clamping along with the router fix to get WiFi Tether working on the Evo 3D, I've never needed to use it.

yeah when you dont click the router fix, you just get a "!" for your wifi signal on mac, on windows you get the stupid yellow caution thingy over wifi connection.
When its clicked, internet works fine. expect....random websites.
its weird, it happens across operation system. on both explorer, chrome, and safari. but when i discount from my wifi tether and connect to a regular internet connection the websites load up fine. no issues.
Try settinf your MTU in the browsing device to (for example) 1300. (ifconfig WLAN MTU 1300).
