[Q] Need help please? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, I've tried posting on a few other sites, but nobody seems to reply, so let me give this one a try!
Last night my phone went crazy? It started flashing & then just shut itself off. It turned back on, only to be completely wiped out. No applications, no contacts, nothing whatsoever.
I didn't feel like messing with it then, so I waited until this morning, where I've gotten absolutely no where with it. I've tried to do the factory reset, & even erased my sd card to see if that was the problem. Wrong!
The jist of it all -- I have two main problems! One is I can't download any applications. I go into the market place & it says, "Sorry there's not enough space to install this item" -- Clearly, I have enough space! & secondly anytime I turn my phone back on I have to go through everything again. Google account, language select because it keeps resetting itself.
Please tell me someone knows what I'm suppose to do to fix this!!
Also, I've been looking around on the threads & I see a lot of things about bricked phones & how to recover things & I'm just completely confused. So hopefully it's a rather easy fix ..

First thing is, what rom did you flash?
are you even on a custom rom?
If you are on a custom rom what you need to do is to boot into CWM and Factory reset then wipe cache, then go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache. this will bring you back to your custom roms default, you will have no settings or installed programs [other than what came with the rom].
Sounds like something is in one of the locations taking up all of your room.
Enjoy
also not to nit pick but "Need Help Please" is more of a statement, other wise you are asking if you need help.

Oh also Best guide by far and is up to date on everything!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070

I haven't downloaded anything personal, so I don't know why this has happened. I'm not one of those techy people. The only thing I've ever had downloaded was your regular "fun" applications. Facebook, mp3 downloader, a stupid piano thing, & then some brain test deal. That's it!
As I was looking around, I noticed that I have no internal memory & based on reading through threads, that's why my phone completely resets everytime I turn it back on.

I went to the "wipe cache partition" & that was a success, then tried to do a "factory reset" it says, "Your storage not prepard yet, please use UI menu for fomat & reboot actions" What's that?

According to your statement, you are on a stock rom. Correct?
If so, i dont know why it wouldnt let you do a factory reset.
But if the clearing of cache worked then problem solved.
Also may want to read up that link i gave you on installing a custom rom its fun

Im on whatever it comes with when the phone is sent to me. I've literally maybe had this phone about two months. I don't know how to install anything, so I think I'm (excuse my language) ****ED! & I have no idea what I'm suppose to di about it. Calling Verizon now to get some help.

you are not ****ed! these phones are tanks and it is almost impossible to brick them!
This will help you get completely stock [what the phone comes with]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
Go to Section 2:
And follow the directions exactly! and in step 3 of section 2 use the second link [stock eh03] and that is the upto date Verizon version of the phone and stop after step 10. if you follow the directions it is easy as pie!

You can have Verizon just apply the newest firmware to the device again by going to a retail store and asking for it.
That should fix it.

Android Market

I just used ODIN to flash to stock ROM and modem in attempt to solve my problem with adding gmail account to my phone. It worked. I added my gmail account no problem and I was finally able to visit Android market. However, I have new problem now.
When I go to Market and download applications, I see bubble with "Your item will be downloaded" after I click on install button and then nothing happens. Application is not installed. No errors - nothing.
Does anyone have a solution? It would be much appreciated.
settings >> applications >> manage apps >> go to 'all' tab >> look for market >> clear data
after that re-login to market and see if that fixes it
Thank you xtone. I tried that to no avail. In addition to clearing cache on Market I also cleared it from Google Talk as I read they are somehow connected. Then I erased cache of all my apps and still it didn't get me anywhere.
Last thing I tried was to uninstall Market update. After that I have slightly different issue. Now it says 'Starting download....' and it never goes away. Also, it looks like Market re-updated itself to the new version! Is it possible?
I'm having the same exact problem. My issue started with Nero v2 and did not get fixed when I flashed Nero v3. Today, I tried PepperKake to see if that fixed the problem, but that didn't work either.
Even after a fresh install (after wiping and re-flashing, and before restoring my backups from Titanium), I try installing things from the market but nothing works.
If you look closely (at least on my phone), it will say "Downloading..." for a second or two, then FLASH "Download unsuccessful" and disappear almost instantly.
Somebody PLEASE help :'( This is very frustrating.
This happens to me on "occasion" where it says starting to download then nothing happens. The only way I get it to work, is if I cancel the current "download in progress" or whatever it says, then click "Install" once again, and then it starts immediatelly.
Also, I noticed that it was giving problems when I was using the older version of the market. Once updated it went away.

Just tried this, didn't work for me
Things that I found that could fix the problem...
Under settings>applications>manage applica.>running>clear data for "download manager", 'gmail".
Try re-formatting your SD card. Also, Unmount then Mount SD card.
Also, try using either data or WiFi and see if either works.
Do some research on this, there's alot of different threads concerning this issue, with possible solutions.

I don't mean to sound rude, but why would this affect anything? I feel like the problem must be with either the ROMs (JL5 ROMs maybe?) or the Market? As a test, I downloaded something through the browser with no problem. Also, is wiping much different from reformatting? What about disabling, then enabling voodoo (which I had to do in order to try out PepperKake)? I know they said "don't knock it till you've tried it," but backing up everything, reformatting, and then restoring everything seems like a tedious job and I wanna make sure I know why it's worth a try before doing it...
Also, to the OP: sorry if I'm hijacking your post. I just didn't want to start a new post and have people flame me with "THERE'S ALREADY A POST ABOUT THIS!" and whatnot.
Dude, all the stuff I brought up, I found through research in a couple minutes. Some of things I posted ended up fixing the issue for some people and some not. I do not believe the problem resides in the ROM or JL5 (which I'm running with no issue) but rather mods and what not that was installed previously...."ghost"
In the OP he states he went back to stock, so how could it be the ROM???
You don't want to be rude, nor do some research on the problem judging by your response. You want someone to give you an answer is all. Nobody has an exact answer, you just have to try different things and see what works.
"nuff said...do some research.

No need to blow up like that...I was simply asking a question since this is the Q&A forum. I've had this problem for probably about two weeks and I have been searching through the forums, but I've never found a post where someone had the same exact problem (outside of the Nero post, but their questions went unanswered).
You bring up a good point about the OP using a stock ROM. However, I haven't installed any mods (I went straight to Nero from stock), so I'm not sure how there can be "ghosts."
Again, I'm not trying to be rude or appear lazy. There was no need for response like that. I'll take my research to solve my problem elsewhere.
I wasn't trying to be rude or anything.....but yes, there are various topics on issues with the market going from 2.2 back to 2.1 back to 2.2 and so on....hope you can find a solution to your problem, and maybe later share the outcome with us...good luck!
Found the cause but still no fix
Thanks everyone for feedback. After few hours of trying different things I found what's causing my Android market to not work.
Thus far, what I was doing when I got into trouble was:
1. ODIN to stock ROM and pda (repartition checked)
2. root using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
3. as soon as my phone is rooted Android stops working
So I tried to install all the apps I really need first: ROM Manager and TBackup (my ultimate goal is to upgrade to nero3. Everything works great. However to use these apps I need root access.
So then I rooted again using same method as always and I get same result - malfunctioning Android Market.
When I root using above method everything works great but I see old icon of superuser application. Is there a newer update.zip to root my vibrant? Or perhaps different way to root my phone? Can I do it manually?
I have two Vibrant phones. One had no problems when I did above steps. One continues to give me grief!
Even when I odin to stock I know not all the folders get refreshed. What actually is untouched when I use ODIN method to revert my OS?
Duce HD2, what is the best way to eliminate 'ghosting' without bricking my phone? I also believe that it's caused by some mod that was done previously - I bought my phone used.
If reverting to 'stock' image is not good enough what else could I do to clean up my phone? I know for example that efs folder is unaffected by going back to 'stock' as my phone remains SIM unlocked when I do it.
Market problem
I'm having the same problem Nero v3 + voodoo. If you find a solution, please let me know,
Thanks!

I still use the Super User that you have and have no problems....
ODIN back to JFD
Root
reboot into CWM recovery
Wipe cache partition
Advanced
Wipe Davlik
go back
Factory Reset/Restore
and you should have gotten rid of everything
There is an update.zip root on the cynanogenmod ailing page for Vibrant.

The best way ,"I" know, is to ODIN back to stock true (JFD), check repartition. Go through the usual process - root, rom manager, etc. Flash new custom ROM, "important" while it's still in recovery after installation is complete don't rebooot yet, this is where you'll perform these steps:
Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions, perform factory reset. Then finally reboot phone.
I never ran into 1/10 of the problems that I see people having with their devices.
Also, after reboot make sure to leave your phone on idle for at least 15 minutes, so everything can properly get installed. Reboot, log in to gmail, give it 5 minutes, then reboot once again. Good to go.
Just like jmcghee1973 posted.
Give it a try and see if it works for you. Good luck.
Try using one click root as well. Never hurts to try...

Market working again
I followed the odin instructions, went back to stock, re-rooted, then re-installed nero3. This time I didn't restore system apps + data. My market is working. Hope this helps.
It worked for me too when I installed nero3 - market issues were gone.
I am actually not so sure any more that rooting caused the problem. What I observed was that my phone was downloading 'stuff' on its own soon after I reverted to stock image. I know that because I saw few 'download unsuccessful' messages. I also tested this theory - I reverted to stock. Immediately after I could use market but then 20-60 after my Market was not working, even when phone was un-rooted!
I don't know how these automatic downloads were triggered but my latest theory is that they have a lot to do with not working Market app.
Anyway, Nero 3 is not downloading anything automatically and I am really happy with it. Thank you guys for everything. You guys rock!!!

[Q] Samsung Vibrant Nero V5

does anyone have the step by step instructions on how to flash this onto your phone? There are so many threads i dont know where to start. I rooted my phone but have never used a rom before. I also want to make sure I have it running as best as possible.
Thanks in advance to whoever can lend a hand.
get - rom manager app, free or paid doesn't matter.
click the first option on rom manager, flash clockwork recovery, and chose Galaxy S Vibrant
download the nero v5 to your sd card
use rom manager and click download rom from SD and then choose the .zip wherever you put it.
then it'll ask to backup current rom, and clear/wipe data.
check the clear and wipe data, but not the current rom, if you want you can, but just check the second one no matter what.
it will reboot, and go into regular recovery, or it'll start downloading rom, if it starts saying clear data and stuff, its good.
if its on screen with blue text, click reinstall packages, now it'll reboot, in the same screen
click reinstall packages again.
now it'll be on a green text screen.
it won't do anything here since you had to reboot, so now click install from sd card
and then choose and find file.
then click yes, you navigate the recovery with volume buttons, and power, volume up is up, down is down, power button is OK/select
then the same thing will happen.
REMEMBER, THE FIRST REBOOT WILL TAKE A WHILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND IF YOU HEAR SOME VOICES, THATS GOOD TOO, IT MEANS ITS ENABLING VOODOO LAGFIX.
DO NOT REBOOT IF THE FIRST BOOT TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES, IF IT TAKES LIKE 20, THEN YEAH YOU GOTTA WORRY, BUT ABOUT 10 IS GOOD.

This thread will tell you everything you need to know. You have to be diligent to get this stuff. read it. re read it. then try it out. at least figure out how to back everything up and you don't have to worry about a thing. I also had a lot of trouble and a miserable time learning all of this. if you have any questions post them here or send me a message and i'll try to help you out.
Thanks... I am new so I appreciate the help, and dont know why someone would come into a thread clearly asking for help just to be rude. I'm not that worried about bricking it. I get my hands on a lot of phones. I've got three of these so I want to try to mod one so I can give the other 2 to my brothers. I'm using a Windows Phone right now so if i fail then i guess that's that for now...
Thanks again..

A few worrying issues, need help.

Hi all,
Had my SGS3 for a few weeks now and it's been good for the most part, but as of a few days ago things started to go wrong.
Had a message from Orange saying that i've been using my phone out of the EU and i've used 2MB (even though i haven't) this issue hasn't raised it's head again, i also had four apps install themselves, "slots", "cab app", "droid apps" and "new message", i've since wiped and had no issues.
Then this morning i had an icon show up saying car mode enabled, click here to disable, theres nothing i can do to remove it besides reboot the phone and then it promptly comes back again
The other one is since installing villain rom, which has been a solid rom and the dev's there are top notch so i don't even think it's the rom, but i've been getting a strange error too.
Also getting rebooting of the phone randomly also happens and again theres nothing i can do about that either.
I've attached screengrabs of both the car mode issue after i click on the notification and the error i'm getting when using villainrom.
Any help at all with any of these issues would be great.
Many thanks.
PS: Things i've tried:
Rebooting.
Full wipe, data, cache and dalvic.
Re downloaded the rom and full wiped again.
Cleared the internal and external memory.
Tried different kernels
The car mode issue was also present on Omega rom and i imagine it would follow me onto any other rom, i'm actually suspecting that it's some malware which has been left behind and has installed itself, so even after wiping it's just installing itself again.
I don't use apk's too much but i do use titanium after every flash although i am careful as to what i install.
Might i need to go back to stock and start over?
Thanks.
~EDIT: Just used the toolkit to go back to a stock rom and i'm still receiving errors "Unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped ?? wtf? It's supposed to be clean?
Anyone?
EDIT 2: Re rooted the phone and everything went perfect, flashed a custom rom and still good, then signed into google and as it was loading up my numbers and changing my wallpaper, attempting to download my apps, it crashes, i reboot and as soon as it's connected and trying to finish off what it was doing, it reboots again? This lump of **** is going back.
Baad.

Yeah.bump. don't know what is causing this. But try this
Full wipe, go to mount/storage and format system, then flash new rom

Sign in or don't sign in, the problem persists.
Car mode has stayed away but the reboots are still present, for a 20 day old phone i think it's utter bull****.
Must have been tested by a bunch of corpses, either that or the testers were high and thought it'd be funny to send out some dud unit's.
Even in my place of work, i sometimes set up client's phones, up til now i've done hundreds, about 10 of them have been dead from the box, some have had issues with the touchscreen, lalalalallalalaaaaaa, not good enough samsung, i understand that some bad eggs can slip through the net but for me the ratio is just too high.
Like i said, i'll be getting a spanking new phone delivered tomorrow morning, hopefully this one isn't on it's arse.

If this issue is happening to you, send it back, mine went from being on it's knees to being on it's back in a coffin in one day.
I would suggest you do a full wipe as suggested and try to use a different GMAIL account initially to see if your issues return.

NO i think you'll find that this ***** has hardware issues, at least since it still reboots at stock.
Either way if someone does want to go back to stock then there is only one place they need to go to.
There is no script or anything else needed for it.

[Q] Possible Brick trying to install CM 10 [noobalert]

Hey guys, I've searched endlessly for hours and I'm at a point where I am so confused right now do not know what to do. I know the answer is somewhere in the forums, I'm just not making sense of anything anymore. I'll cut to the chase:
I have a Rogers tablet Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7500 wifi+3g/4g version that I had rooted and flashed ICS last January/February to a AOKP ROM. Today, I felt the urge to try getting a Jelly Bean ROM on my device. I downloaded the appropriate CM 10 ROM under the title "cm-10-20121112-EXPERIMENTAL-p4.zip". Booted in recovery mode, did a backup, wiped + factory reset, then wiped cache, then wiped Dalvik cache, then installed from zip. I got some error 7 / status 7. Researched a bit and concluded I needed to update my CWM Recovery from the 5.8.xxxx version I had to the 6.1.xxxx one that is the most up to date. So I restored from my backup to make sure I could just go back to how things were.
This is when things got complicated. I couldn't find any proper guide on how to just update CWM, I kept getting referred to Droid Basement (which is equally as confusing), and figured out this is the Parent Directory droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm10/p4/ . I downloaded "recovery.tar.md5" thinking I could maybe just go into recovery and apply it somehow, or go into ROM Control and "update" from a file and use that, nothing. I stumbled on this page "androidauthority.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-p7510-p7500-jelly-bean-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-136000/" which then linked me to another article explaining how to update CWM accordingly "androidauthority.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-3g-4g-p7500-root-50789/" (Did the second paragraph steps)
I downloaded the KERNEL.ZIP and RECOVERY.ZIP and did as they said, except I re-wiped and factory resetted, wiped cache and wiped Dalvik cache thinking this is something you "need" to do everytime you install any .zip whatsoever. I then flashed the kernel + the recovery, and then nothing. I get a black screen, but if I hold down the power + left volume and try to get into recovery, I get to the recovery menu, if I click recovery NOTHING happens, I can go into download mode, but I have no idea what to do there / have never used that. I know "odin" has something to do with this, but I have a mac and apparently this is only functional on windows and I don't have bootcamp running right now, I do have an old windows laptop that I could use if really needed if "odin" is not compatible with mac in the end. I am not sure if this is considered bricked, hard/soft, but yeah, I need help! I apologise once again and don't mean to offend anyone, I'm sure the answer is somewhere here, but I can't seem to find it especially since none of the threads are ever specifically in regards to my Rogers tablet, and also since a lot of guides are for wifi only tablets and I'm not really sure if that really makes the big difference.
Thanks!
Wow dude... i suggest if you do not know what you are doing try to find out the most information you can get before you even flash a ROM untill you are sure what exactly you are doing. If i was your tablet i wouldn't start up either because i would get confused
Here's a guide from our friend QBking 77 how to get back to normal, everything is well explained, follow him STEP by STEP!!

Ohh, before you run into more issues, do not download the ROM for the p7510 in his discription, but get your stock-rom from your device from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
Hey Defqon thanks for the link and I had stumbled upon it earlier, problem is he says wifi only version when I have the GT-P7500 version 4G Rogers. Does the tutorial still apply for me?

There was another thread started about this shortly after the phone was released. Is it true it erased your SD card as well?? There were a couple reports that it had for them. I made sure to back up my phone and routinely continue to do so in the off chance that someone does get a hold of it and unknowingly erases everything. This is a TERRIBLE "feature" and someone had said there was a file on a previous phone they had that was able to be edited to disable this, but as far as I know hasn't been found on the G3 yet. Though I'm not a dev by any means I plan on diving into the system files at some point, and hopefully can find something online to point me in the right direction... Believe me, I'm sure if I or someone else does find a way to disable it you will definitely see a thread for it, more than likely in the "General" section :good: Worst.....Feature.....Ever.....
I am OK with the 10 times then wipe...
If I had a friend do that to me, we would no longer be friends.

Yes it is true about the ten times wiping the sd card. I tried it for myself bored at an airport and it wiped everything. Would love to turn this off somehow.

See this is horrible. I can kind of understand the security purpose behind it and figured it would only wipe internal storage but SD as well with no option to turn off?! This should be something you CHOOSE to happen after 10 failed attempts. Especially if you have that one A$$hole "friend" (I'm sure a lot of you are picturing him now ) who thinks something like this would be hilarious.....Every time....

I was on my last attempt one day while my phone was in my pocket, using knock code. So this makes me nervous about wiping it again accidentally.

Yes... This actually happened to my M8 while it was in my pocket. The screen came off sleep and I pocket swiped the wrong pattern. When I pulled the phone out EVERYTHING was gone.
I thought it was ridiculous that it gave you 10 tries... now that I know it wipes your phone, that's scary and not nearly enough.
I would much rather it just give you 3 or 4 tries and then require a backup pin or for you to type in or your google account password. It should never be able to wipe my phone unless I tell it too.
wow that is a serious shipping bug. I'm taking my phone lock off right now. They designed with guest log-on they so you hand your phone to somebody else to use and they designed it like that? Sounds like another enhancement for g3 tweakbox...set failed logon attempts to 10,000 with time delays in between.

I installed the xposed module. I set it to unlimited but I also had the g3 tweakbox setting to show number of attempts. The number was still at ten max and I was unable to (can't wipe no backup) try more than 10 attempts.
After five, mine requires you to type a phrase to continue, so pocket shouldn't do it. And after that, you can use a pin or account info by selecting the bottom button that says forgot my code.
I certainly agree it should be a setting though.
Sorry this an old thread, but I would like to know as well. My toddler sometimes get a hold of my phone, and it ends up being factory reset. I hate this feature. If I have a issues with someone taking my phone and trying to access to it, I rather go through Google (phone locater) and erase it from there

The following is out of the box thinking and speculative since it's possibility of success depends on what happens if you completely wipe your recovery partition so that you no longer had any kind of recovery: neither stock nor custom. And knowing you couldn't easily get recovery back without flashing the 10B TOT. There'd be other possibilities to get it back, but I'd just flash the TOT under most circumstances.
You would have to be temporarily be rooted to do so.
This is the way I would go about it if I were interested in such a thing:
1. Restore to stock 10B KitKat by flashing the 10B_03 TOT using the .DLL that's extracted from the 35B KDZ (assuming you're on the 35B or higher stock unrooted ROM).
2. Root the phone with the Stump app.
3. Use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to install TWRP custom recovery.
4. Create a flashable zip from the individual partitions extracted from whichever stock ROM KDZ you wanted to be on, such as 47A Marshmallow.
5. Leave the stock recovery partition out of the zip, and adjust the updater-script to wipe the existing recovery partition on the phone.
6. Flash the ROM zip you've created. Once you exit TWRP, you won't have a recovery partition anymore, which as far as I know would be what would perform the actual factory reset. You'd still have the download mode partition because that's separate.
If someone triggered what would normally be a factory reset by guessing the wrong lock code 10 times, the phone would reboot and likely maybe have a blinking LED which would require you to either pull the battery or hold the power button in for 10-15 seconds or so to force the phone to boot.
If I were going to test such a method, I'd use the built in LG Backup to back up all my user apps and data and move everything I want to save from my internal storage to my MicroSD card, then I'd eject the card and leave it until done testing.
Then upon following the steps to do all this, I'd test the theory out immediately by setting a secure lock screen and using the wrong password/PIN/pattern 10 times and make sure you can recover the way I described by pulling the battery or holding down the power button long enough.
No sense restoring apps or even putting your Google account info in while testing this.
At the worst, you'd have to flash the 10B TOT or any KDZ such as 47A again to recover, or very worst have to follow QHSUSB_BULK 9008 mode recovery directions which would also make use of the TOT file.
If you decide you're brave enough to test, I'd be willing to make the flashable zip for you.
You can uncheck "Android Device manager" under Settings --> Security --> Device Administrators ... i done for Lenovo vibe mobile !!!
