[Q] S II international V GSM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello galaxy s ii community!
I may soon be joining you all but first I have to resolve a small issue before purchasing my gsii. This is the model that I am interested in but am not sure if it will work with at&t's 3g/hspa+ bands.

Good question. The SA denotes South America and I don't see any of the bands listed. Usually the International version is listed as the GT-I9100 not the SA-I9100.
I use my GT-I9100 on AT&T just fine with the $10 Unlimited Data Plan.

Ah :/. Bummer.
I'll have to do a bit more research then.

i read in the article above that it seems that both att and sprint will have a similar lte network
any hopes of me just popping a sprint sim to my att note for some truly unlimited data sweetness?

sprint no has sim no more

Sprint will have sim cards for LTE. Still, this isn't likely. Even if it did work, a you would have is data. Your note cannot use Sprint's voice network.

Samsung SCH-i889 Galaxy Note
FYI; The recently released Chinese version [Samsung SCH-i889 Galaxy Note] is CDMA, band compatible with Sprint/Verizon, as well as GSM.

Neither the i717 or N7000 models are CDMA band capable.
Note; Even if for some hypothetical reason they were LTE compatible and Sprint had a SIM, you would never get Voice/text.

US version Galaxy S III rom development

With the US version having the same hardware, will we be able to flash the same roms on all the carriers? I know we have to flash our own kernel and modem to work on our network.
Negative. International version has exenos and the north America version has the s4 qualcomm
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I'm only taking about the us version, they are going to release to all the major carriers at the same time.
Sent from T-Mobile's galaxy S 4g for a minute until the SIII is released in the United States
But they still got a s4 instead of exenos.

All the us version have the same hardware. When I had the TMO gallery s II we can use all of att skyrocket roms as well all we needed was to flash tmo kernel

gsm and cdma is going to be coded in differently to the hardware so that will be a brick and a half flashing them across eachother

Yes but it's only a small change and I heard it's an easy one too.

actually i don't think its gonna be that bad...as long a rom doesnt include a radio, and you inject the appropriate kernels... roms will for the most part be interchangeable between the US Variants

[Q] Will there be a hack to the i9300 to receive 3g/4g Tmobile USA?

i have a cellphone repair store and am addicted to new cellphones and trying them out. i currently have the i9300 and love it, but am wondering if there would be anyway to hack it to receive 3g/4g T-Mobile USA. I have switched over back to T-Mobile because they have the best speed for money and coverage ratio where i live. I also have the galaxy note sgh i717 and have it rooted and running ics with the blaze radio hack and it works beautifully on T-Mobile. So what im asking is, will there be a way to flash a radio the same way it was done on the note for the i9300? i really like the way my phone is and prefer the quad core over the dual core that will be coming out here in the us. I don't want to have to sell my international i9300 to get the USA T-Mobile version just so i can have working 3g/4g. Im Hoping for a answer yes you can flash a radio and someone can try to do it. I wish i had more time to play around with these things and be more knowledgable about what im saying, but with my job and two kids i try to learn as much as possible.
Nope. The hardware for the international version doesn't support LTE. Unless you're a superDev and manage mod the system on a chip support it, you'll have to use the US version to get 4G.
It's only the the main reason that the US version isn't getting the quad core. Not that the S4 + 2Gb of memory isn't just as good if not better than the exynos.

What about the hspa+ or even 3g on T-Mobile. I can't see the note that has the same bands as the i9300 being able to do that why not the i9300?? I guess maybe I'm missing something?? Cause the only thing missing is the 1700 band. From both phones and they added it to the att note somehow

He's not asking about LTE, he's asking about getting T-Mobile 3G. I'd like to know if this is possible as well....

No.
The AT&T Note has an SoC that has the 1700mhz band. It is the same SoC that is in the T-Mobile SGSII.
The international Note has the same SoC as the i9100 and i9300 and it does NOT have the 1700mhz band, and it never will.
The only way is when tmo start reusing the 1900 frequency for 3g later this year.
Apparently they are trying it out in some places already.

I really hope they go widespread with it because I was in America two months ago and tmo was better than at&t for pricing etc. And I'll likely be going back again and wanna use my phone there on tmo preferably.

Haha yeah it is much better. I have been using mine on T-Mobile and 2G isn't the worst thing in the world, especially when I'm around wifi all day long at school and home, and you can't even get the T-Mobile versions anywhere here.

here is an interesting link showing these 1900 locations coming up http://www.airportal.de/
I don't think there is any hack or mods, just have to wait for T-Mobile to expand their 1900mhz coverage.
Luckily, I'm in the area where T-Mobile offers 1900mhz coverage and I can connect to hspa+ on my i9300. It's so much faster than what I'm used to when I was on AT&T. I was only getting 0.5-1.5mbps on AT&T but now 5-6mbps on T-Mobile. When I'm in area that lacks coverage, I do get only EDGE though which is pretty darn slow

Unlimited 4G plan with no cap or throttle.
I'm probably going to switch i9300 to new tmobile branded note 2 or S3 though. There is no coverage of 1900mhz when I'm around home area. Using EDGE is so painful...

Yeah.. I'm using the 200 Mb data plan with my i9300. Since we only getting edge for now , it is a waste of paying 25 dollars a month for 4g if we can't use the speed.. I'm in New York Brooklyn , and still can't get any 3g signals...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
is the fastest i9300 can go on. Tmobile
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 4
Brooklyn new york here . in nyc ATT is the fastest for mobile data no question about it. I get an average of 6 mbit/s . some times up to 11 mbit/s I tried t mobile and the best i got was edge. under 100 kbit/s could barely make calls. I dont know about other cities or regions but in nyc ATT is king even though they suck .
You'll never get more than 2G. Unless you're in one of the new areas where they have out their new towers. You'll get 2G most of the time... There isn't a "hack" and there never will be... Its a hardware limitation.

4g on international S3?

Hi, I am debating on buying the international galaxy s3 or T-mobile's galaxy s3 (the dual-core model). Since I am from the US, would I be able to use T-mobile's 4g if i bought the international version?
No. Hardware differences.
This has been asked countless times before.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you live in some parts of California or the east coast that have 1900mhz 3G it will work. But that only covers like ten cities max. It would be 2G everywhere else.
Also T-Mobile doesn't have 4G.

Hey!
No its not international I'm leaving in UAE and I'm using Du cariouer and its not supporting 4g so it depends on the operator

GT-i9300 has 4G?

This screenshots were sent from a friend that says that his cellphone is receiving 4G, however i also have the same GT-i9300 factory unlocked, but bought from the US. His S3 is bought from Orange Dominicana Carrier. We both are in the same network. But i only receive H+, while he receives 4G. Does this mean that there are GT-i9300 with LTE? Or mine is not configured properly?
IMPOSSIBRU!!!!
On a serious note, I was sent a text from T-Mobile uk saying that later this year I would be able to get 4G
Here's hoping
Regards
Jack
Edit: unfortunately after having restored a nandroid backup, I have lost the text, doesn't seem like i have a great deal of credibility now oh well
Yes or No then?
Yes or No then? because as u can see in the pictures, it appears he has 4G. And im pretty sure he has the GT-i9300.
The gt-i9300 only has hspa+, it may say 4g but it's hspa+.
The LTE version is the i9305 and isn't out yet.

Probably not, different frequencies for LTE, otherwise Sammy would just use the US version in European LTE markets.
Goes to show that the quad exynos is their preferred platform.
