I am very impressed with the Flyer so far. You need to own one to appreciate just how good HTC made this tablet. You know there is a but coming.....but the lack of Honeycomb and the price is giving me second thoughts. I can pick up the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the same price with updated Honeycomb. I know the Flyer may be getting honeycomb and it looks like it may be months away. I like the 7" form factor and portability but with all things considered is it better to just get the Samsung and jump on the Flyers next version? This is tuff..... any ideas?
Ha ha, I can't believe you are asking others to make a choice for you!
I hope you are not still wearing the same underwear because you needed your Mom to tell you when to change them!
Yeah, my Mom is not around and neither was yours so I decided to use the forum for some guidance. It's always good to surround yourself with other views. You never know what you might learn.
I say get the tab.

The 10" form factor feels like a completely different device to me. If your mostly using it for couch surfing, the larger screen is nice. But for portability (or lack of it, compared to the Flyer) is going to feel very different. And while the plastic backing on the Galaxy Tab helps keep the weight down, it also makes it feel less high end than the aluminum unibody on the Flyer.
Good point. The portability is best thing going for the Flyer. I have the iPad2 and have rarely touched it since getting the Flyer. The costs being the same as the Galaxy 10.1 is making it hard for me to justify the expense especially with the Flyer having no Honeycomb. Thinking maybe getting the Galaxy 10.1 and holding out till 8.9 or HTC comes with a refresh of the 7". Still debating.
If you're considering between a 7 and a 10 then you might as well get the 10. Because you should already know if you want the awesome portability of a 7, there is no debate on which is better for carrying it with you. Think bag or no bag, hands full or pocketable.
I prefer the 7" for sure. At this point I am just contemplating wether it makes sense to spend that much for a 7" when you can have a 10" with updated software. I guess I am wondering wether the Flyer is an Over BUY at the price point in comparison to the Tab 10.1 wich fits the price point for its model.
I think 7" is an ideal size. I have a Gtab, iPad 2, and X201Tablet. My wife uses the iPad2, mostly to read online and play some games. My Gtab stays home, usually by my bed to watch movies via Upnplay, probably going to sell it. X201T is really nothing you want to carry around, I usually use that one for Detail sketches or CS5 work. However I carry my Flyer with me everywhere. Great for Train commute and surfing the internet during lunch, Free internet everywhere in NYC. I don't think Honeycomb is really going to make this tablet any better right now. How many apps are actually made for Honeycomb, what some 300+ or so? I know it is a lot of money, but I definitely make the most out of it. I actually do work and research for my work on it. To me it is well worth the price. Only thing I really want is more app for the Scribe pen. If anything HTC should make another variation of the Flyer with no Pen option and sell it for $100 less. If this is a simple case of techolust, I would just get the 10.1 until your next fix come on the market.

If you like the 7" form factor then why are you going for the 10.1" SGT? In my opinion... the value shouldn't be based solely on the screen size. Judge the product's value as a whole and not just because it's expensive plus it's small since the product in its entirety has a different value proposition.
I read a few different articles regarding the G-Slate with the 8.9" form factor and they say it feels weird given the size... but they said that about the 7" too when it first came out.
I owned a Motorola Xoom for two months. Just returned last week for an HTC Flyer. I like the Flyer a lot better. Don't think because you're getting a dual processor and Honeycomb that the device will run fast. My Xoom was lagging. Many other people have the same experiences. The Flyer has a much more snappier experience. Honeycomb apps are not that much better. Maybe if you play games, the games may look better, but that's pretty much it. 7 inch is the perfect size for a tablet in my opinion. 10.1 inch is just not portable. You'll end up getting a bag to carry it around.
thanks guys I appreciate all your opinions. the truth is that you must consider price when making a purchase. We all do. it's hard to say that you are getting more bang for your buck with a galaxy tab but with a bigger screen, higher processor and thin build it must be considered. It's priced right for the market. You can make a case for the Flyer also but 500 for a smaller screen and older OS is pushing it a bit. Truth is I will probably stick with the flyer. It would suck if HTC decides not to go with honeycomb though. The Flyer has just enough little features that make this thing rock...
10" tabs are pointless imo. A netbook can do more, costs less, is more durable and is just as portable once you factor in the fragility of a tablet.
Stick with the flyer. 7" tab is the perfect size.
The only thing I have to add is the pen integration. As a 2nd gen tab user, I found taking notes on my iPad just didn't work well. If you don't need it then get something else for the money.
Because these devices are meant to be portable case material gets a lot of consideration. Plastic for a device this size just seems flimsy. I don't believe in purchasing a car and leaving it in the garage. I don't baby my electronic devices either. Hence the aluminum is comforting. Titanium or magnesium to lighten things up would be interesting... Maybe a Lenovo will consider the material.
The larger screen is definitely more comfortable if you are primarily couch-surfing. I also prefer the larger screen to browse magazines in full page or side-by-side. The smaller screen of the Flyer works well for guidebooks or as an e-reader. Larger screen also makes remoting into workstations easier, though I'm getting handy with the smaller screen.
Again, to me the pen integration is why I have this particular device. It doesn't bother me that honeycomb isn't on the device... I personally don't expect honeycomb to drastically effect the functionality of the device other than access to apps which will take advantage of the larger screen. I would prefer to see more advancement and focus on pen integrated apps.

Yes, obviously price is a factor for most everyone (except the filthy rich). But it seems like you are trying to compare the "value" for 2 devices with potentially very different functionality due to their form factors.
You said you have an iPad2, which is exactly the same form factor as the GT 10.1. The size and weight of the two are virtually IDENTICAL. Aside from the freedom that the Android OS gives you, what makes you think that you would use the GT any more, or like it any more than the iPad? Plus, you would be owning 2 very similar devices (if you had the GT and the iPad), which actually seems like a waste of money. It seems more value added to spend your money on two devices with different form factors. The Flyer for portability, and maybe the iPad for times when you are couch surfing and want a bigger screen. Although, if you ask me, maybe its the iPad that you should get rid of!
The "value" a device brings to you is not necessarily the specs (like a bigger screen or a slightly more updated OS) but the use that you get from it. Its not always about the numbers, and you can't quantify how much you like or prefer something.
Also, the GT does not have a "higher" processor, in all regards. Its a 1 GHz dual core versus the 1.5 GHz single core on the Flyer. The dual core is better for multi-tasking, such as switching between apps, or apps running in the background. But within a single app, the higher clocked single core processor will actually prove faster. The vast majority of apps do not support multi cores yet, and don't take advantage of it. This is why people on here have commented that the Flyer actually feels snappier than the current dual core tablets (in addition to Honeycomb possibly causing some lag).

I have to agree. While the Flyer is the only tablet I own, I was recently in Best Buy, fiddling around with every tablet they had, particularly the Honeycomb ones. I wasn't really blown away by Honeycomb. Some things are cool, such as how the launcher and other apps make better use of a larger tablet screen. And there are various features only on Honeycomb that sound cool. But to be honest, I was not all that crazy about the general theming and look of Honeycomb versus Sense Gingerbread. Maybe I'm must too much of an HTC junky, and biased. Also, the Honeycomb launcher seemed a bit sluggish, as commented in various places. Maybe HC needs a bit more work, or slightly faster CPUs. All in all, my takeaway from the experience was that I am not really disappointed that the Flyer has Gingerbread.

Exactly! Before I bought my Flyer I was looking for the best hardware, latest OS. After much thought and trying out different devices I decided that I wanted the 7" form factor. With that there were only 2 real choices for me, this and the galaxy tab. The flyer performs much better than the galaxy tab. Reviewers of the flyer complain about the specs, but with actual use, it's fast and smooth, less lag than the 10" honeycombs.
I rarely use my laptop now. When not at work I use this almost exclusively for browsing, email, news, games, listening to music, watching videos, reading android forums =), whether at home or commuting or at a cafe. I'm very happy with the performance. Battery life is decent. My only complaint is the camera that's it. Picture quality on my HTC desire is better than this.

Thanks for all your replies. I decided to stick with the Flyer. The portability can not be beat. I have not really put the pen to use as of yet but I am a big Evernote user and expect to use the Pen much more soon. I miss spoke when I mentioned higher processor, I am aware of the dual core just miss-spoke. The one drawback to the flyer is email threading and right side preview which is available through honeycomb. I am hoping the 7" form factor will adopt these features when Honeycomb is added. The email client for HTC is not my cup of tea. That's is really my biggest gripe.

I couldn't agree more. The value should be based on what's important to YOU! I tried to justify my purchase because I know I overpaid (when comparing to other tablets). Then I realized that it really comes down to whether I like the tablet or not.. and..well... I do
Also, a ton of people pay that same price for only 3.6-4.1 inch screens (phones off contract). So when you look at it that way the price for the flyer is pretty damn good.
anyone have an idea of when this will be released?
I'm planning on returning my flyer to get this
seems pretty ready to sell
htc sense honeycomb is ready
passed FCC
mass production ready in June

and do you think there would be a WiFi version?
I have been waiting for the Puccini for too long. I want a 10 inch stereoscopic 3d tablet with a dual or quad core processor, scribe technology(a place to put the pen in the tablet), wifi only, front facing camera on the front and a 3d camera on the back. I want htc to release there code for it as soon as it is released. I wanted ice cream sandwich as soon as android releases it, with face tracking for 3d on the front facing camera and all. Is this too much to ask? Do they understand how many of these tablets they would sell. They can add LTE, HSPA+, 3G, WIMAX. I don't care as long as you can buy if off contract. HTC is taking way too long to release any tablet other then the flyer/evo view which is way too small with the 7 inch screen, under powered with a single core processor and not even running honeycomb. I'm waiting for the next tablet that comes close to these. I favor htc but am a fan of asus too. But I will convert to another company that can actually but these things together. I want a good tablet NOW!
You might want to consider the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (NOT the K1) then.

They are coming... Here's a way to accelerate the process:
Hold your breath.
I guarantee when its all over you'll be able to take your pick of a number of tablets with ALL the above characteristics in your afterlife.
hopefully there will be a $499 version
I knew about the Puccini before I bought the Flyer but it was the case of who knew when it would come out, for how much and how long it'd take to get imported to my country. Plus I've got the HTC Sensation which is the same chipset (slightly lower clockspeed of course). I'll hold off on a new tablet upgrade until the quadcore ones (preferably Krait) are out. I wonder what tactic HTC will take next year with tablets with the new Windows coming out. I'd love dual-boot on next year's tablets. I don't care that much about windows but there are still programs which will only work on it (which makes me curious about legacy support).
Back on topic. I prefer the size of the Flyer. If I had two tablets then maybe I'd go for a 10 incher as the secondary one. But for standard use I prefer the 7" size (which is not only a great comfortable size for reading one handed but also the PERFECT size for me when it comes to games like battleheart and Plants vs. Zombies as my thumbs can reach all points on the screen to make the necessary plays).
thanks!
yea I'm just debating on which tablet I want basically only considering the size of the tablets
I really like the 7 inch size too but I was thinking maybe the screen sizes with the sensation are too similar. If the 7 inch size is really good with the 4.3 inch phone along with it then I would love to keep the sensation
Don't forget that screen sizes despite being measured diagonally (linearly) are actually a question of area. That's why despite a 10" tablet "only" being 3 more inches it's actually about double in size. Same with the Sensation and Flyer, you can fit about three Sensation screens in the space occupied by the Flyer.
I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed by using the two together (though obviously it depends on your preferences )
icic
yea i think I'm gonna keep both then
cuz even thought its seven inches its really nice to hold.
i never thought it would feel nice to hold a 7inch tablet
i wonder how puccini will be though
hopefully it'll be long before they release it like a year so i won't have to update so quickly
Puccini looks awesome. I keep thinking the added screen real estate of 10" tab would be really nice for web surfing or watching video on the couch. But to be honest, I've really grown to like the 7" form factor of the Flyer. Its nice to easily hold it in one hand like a paperback book when reading an eBook, or taking notes. And the portability can't be beat. I don't think I would exchange my Flyer for a Puccini, at most get the larger tab in addition to the Flyer.
The other thing I've noticed about the 10" tabs, is that they are all pretty heavy in comparison to the Flyer. While the Flyer is heavy for a 7" tab, all the 10" tabs are significantly heavier, and feel that way. The ones that don't feel like real clunkers are the ones that stick to almost all plastic bodies (like the iPad and the Galaxy Tab 10.1). 10" tabs with a metal back (like the Xoom) have a more high-end feel, but weigh almost twice as much as the Flyer! Has information been released about the body construction of the Puccini? The sketch from the FCC filing seems to hint that its an aluminum unibody like most of HTC's recent products (and similar to the Flyer). If true, it would seem like the Puccini will weigh a ton, and might not feel to great in the hands (especially holding with one hand).

Well, I have seen more than a few middle-aged ladies with "junk in the trunk", toting around iPads!
Good day all. I'm a Best Buy Silver member and have 45 day returns on merchandise. Anyways I picked up the Flyer a week ago and compared to the other tabs I have owned or own (Asus, Acer A500 and A100, HP Touchpad) this is the best in terms of overall functions. Another reason why I say that is because 10 inch tabs are over-the-top; especially if they don't have any ports (that's why I kept the Acer A500). I find 7-9 inchers are more usable. This Flyer is smooth and functions properly unlike most of the Honeycomb tabs. My only concern is will HTC update this beautiful beast? So I'm posing the question to the community of whether to ditch the Flyer or wait it out. Also any input or thoughts about the Samsung 7.0 Plus and if its worth the extra $100 are appreciated
I wish HTC would say something offical and it will make my decision clear.

The Sammy 7plus will have a TFT LCD screen (like Acer A100) not the Super AMOLED or IPS. That should give a pretty poor viewing angle, not up to Sams usual standards and thus much cheaper to build. On the other hand, Sammy has been promising lots of software updates lately.

Yea this tablet game is crazy. Sometimes I wish I would have been simple and gotten an iPad. Android is getting ridiculous. Anyways the inferred remote, updates, and Samsung usually has a decent amount of accessories is what's keeping me interested. I just have a bad feeling that the flyer is dead.

its maddening. HTC built an almost perfect tablet in the FLyer and then overpriced it at introduction and has failed to support it properly now. Makes me wonder if they are exiting the tablet market.
I too am starting to think HTC is calling it quits. Xoom 2 8.2inch where art thou. I would skip the samsung and wait for that. Much like the original xoom it will be nexus like and will get the most recent updates straight from Google. I miss my original xoom but it was just too darn large.

I think the Xoom 2 is a 8.2. I perfer the 7 inch, because I played with the Samsung 8 inch but it is tad big. I'm looking for something I can whip out in public and not look ridiculous. I think the Xoom will cost $545 though, didn't they learn anything?

Ack, I'm conflicted on where to jump into the tablet market. Granted an IPad would play VERY nicely w/my work MacBook & make life a bit easier, HOWEVER, it's large ~sigh~
Looked at the Xoom the other day and, yeah, too big to tote around comfortably so I started leaning toward the Flyer (I'm a huge HTC fan, love rooting my TBolt & Eris prior to that) but it seems like a lot of owners feel disappointed in HTC's (lack of) support for the device.
Maybe they'll go on a sub $200 fire sale if they announce 'no more'
I'm not sure what to get - but I do know that I want the ability to add storage, ie SD, etc., probably want a 7-8" screen with 9-10" being too large and I'd like it to have a good developer base behind it so I can root away and stay the flash addict that I am. Oh and I'd like the screen to be kind on the eyes for book reading & readable outdoors (so that means I need the AMOLED screen I believe?). I also like the $300 price point of this.
What else are you guys using besides the Flyer?

Thank you, but the Nexus S is a phone, isn't it? And, yeah the 10" tab is going to be too large.
I'll have to get to Best Buy and see if they at least have an HTC Flyer on display that I can fiddle with.
I'm trying to make pretty much the same decision. I would rather not be left without an update to ICS. Other than that, the Flyer is looking pretty good. I like the design of it over the Galaxy Tab (though its design isn't horrible either), and it certainly felt snappy enough during my brief use of it in the store. The Tab is $100 more, and I doubt it will drop in the near future (i.e. before the end of the year), since it's a brand new product and Samsung would have a bunch of pissed off early-adopters on their hands. The Flyer, on the other hand, stands to drop in price again, since it's relatively old.
I was also considering the original Galaxy Tab because of the GSM capabilities (would be nice to throw in a pre-paid SIM card just in case), but Samsung failed to include it in the list of devices they're going to upgrade to ICS, and it felt just a tiny bit slow in the store, at least compared to the Flyer.
I am waiting for the day that Asus releases a 7 inch tablet. If they ever do, I will buy it and never look back. They release products that have top notch hardware and the best software and update support in my opinion. If only the transformer or transformer prime were a bit smaller, then they would be perfect for what I want.

TBH... The Flyer is slow compared to the new Dual Core tablets. however... for 300$ + the added pen functionality it's worth it.
My screen also has a yellow tint... Is that the same as every1 Else's?

The screen should not be yellow.
Actually at 1.5ghz the flyer is faster in most cases than any tablet out there. Dual core doesn't get you more usable speed in almost every case because few if any apps are designed in a way that can make use of the dual cores and Android only lets one app be foreground at a time. So most of the time a dual core is only using one and its slower than the Flyer.

Black Friday will probably yield some good deals, so I'm at least hanging tight for that pricing to come out before jumping on anything - and I think I'm going to sell my Ipod Touch, latest gen, NEVER use it.
Ahhh, eBay (or friends on FB, lol)
I have the flyer and I love it! It's built super solid, its very fast, and I love how it scales apps in contrast to how to Galaxy tab did. On a 7" device I would end up using more phone apps then tablet apps anyway, so I don't care about honeycomb. I love my Flyer! The only thing that may replace it is the Galaxy Note...but then again I may still keep it since its really not worth it to only get $200 used for it. Hell, I'd keep it for that just to lend out or use it as a dedicated clock!
I used to be a active user here on XDA when Wondows mobile was the "cool" Mobile OS. Then I bought a iPod Touch when my father bought into the iPhone 3G. I got sucked into Apple with the 3GS, then the 4. I bought a 64gb 3g iPad when it came out, as well...but then I bought a ATT 3g Galaxy Tab refurbished just to try out android....and fell in love.(it made me feel like I used to with windows mobile...the customization) I kept the TAB for a few months then decided to sell both my iPad and my Tab and buy a iPad wifi for cheap, and a Flyer. I canceled my contract and used my unlimited ipad SIM in my Jailbroken iPhone 4....Loving life($30 a month is my only phone bill!)! That iPhone may be downgraded to a mp3 player though....since I am eye balling the Galaxy Note now.

The WiFi version is $300 on Amazon. But yes, the GSM one that I want is still pretty pricey. If I got the original Tab, though, I'd just pick it up from eBay or the forums or something. Or, maybe it will be on sale during Black Friday, since any retailers that still have them need to clear their inventory to make room for the Plus.
This is a hard decision, to be honest. After doing some more research on the Flyer, it seems that the easiest one to acquire in the States (the WiFi one from Best Buy), is also the one that throws up hurdles for modders, such as the inability to go back to stock from a custom ROM.
Now I'm kind of back at square one, debating between the original Tab, the Tab Plus, the Flyer, the IdeaPad A1, and pending more details and reviews, the Huawei MediaPad.
We all have flyers and we love them. I have this question. If you root your flyer and then upgrade the os to ICS, jelly bean and beyond. What would it take for you to want to replace it? What would htc have to do in terms of hardware upgrades, besides the obvious one of putting a multi core processor,or maybe adding gorilla glass to make you pull the trigger on the next one? The prospect of a 7" ipad has me intrigued, but even with that I wonder what I would do with my flyer besides make it an alarm clock and then all the apps i would put it , i am back to wanting to carry it with me again. And that has me seriously considering getting another flyer in case I screw the first one up, trying to root it
The next round of tablets will have at least double the screen resolution of the current, so I would probably move to the larger 10" +, except, see my signature below to find out why I probably won't be interested in future tablets even with faster hardware and better screens.
7-8" screen, internal GPS, $200-300 price point and has support longer than launch day. That's all I look for.
Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S not getting ICS due to Touchwiz bloat.

LOL
same excuse as HTC.............
it'd take a lot for me to go above a 7" tablet...i had a 10" and it was simply way too big
thinner and lighter would have me salivating for an upgrade, though i don't yet feel the need to update my tablet as often as my phone...so it may be the next iteration for me, not the ones directly coming up
actually, there are so many things i DON'T need in a tablet that i'd probably be happy with one of the $100 ebay ripoffs, but i'm too much of a consumer to have one...lol
Im still for the most part very happy with my flyer. esp with the advent of custom roms and oc/uv has made this thing just a treat to play around with. I'm also very happy with it's size.. not too huge. not too small... just right
that said. i've def drooled over the htc jetstream. what bothers me is i can't find it in wifi only anywhere and att is the only one selling them that i could find... but alas.. it's only a dual core...
i think i'll wait and go striaght from single core to quad core for my next tablet. i have been keeping my eye on ASUS recently the prime is cool but came out with a lot of bugs. i was also watching the MEMO 370t quad core 7 inch tab thats supposed to be priced around 250.. u get the same 8mp cam as on the prmie.. but no front facing cam.. and that might be a deal breaker for me as i spend a lot of time on skype with friends and family.
so ... my next flyer would idealy be a quad core dual camera wifi gps THE WERKS!
prolly Q3 or Q4 this year is when i'll be really trying compare whats available and whats up and comming and start planning on getting a new tab.
i already have too many devices to play with lol
2x win mobile phones 2x android phones 1x windows phone 2x android tablets 1x iPad 1x iPhone4s
i wanna start doing video reviews so they start sending me free stuff to review ... *dream job

I think I'll just see what's available when my contract is up in 2013. I've dropped mine a few times so it has some scuffs.
Hardware I'd like a LED flash for the camera. I'm okay with the 5MP camera, but wouldn't mind a 8MP with full HD recording. That being said, HDMI out is a must. Higher screen resolution would be good too. I think the 1024x600 res can be upgraded. Also seeing how the new iPad has Bluetooth 4.0, that would be nice too. & a better standard pouch. The current one is pathetic.
But I'm not attached to my Flyer at the hip. I'd like another HTC, but if they don't have a new 7" tab soon, I'll have to shop somewhere else....

Nokia to release a 10" Windows 8 tablet with dual-core Snapdragon S4 in Q4
I know, blasphemous. But I need more productivity.
@ Digital MD... get a pogoplug... you can stream your own stuff to any device you have
@n7 of 9... do you miss the extra screen real estate of the 10" tablet? I was seriously considering getting a jet stream... cause I wanted another toy... and for the extra screen real estate
For Android tablets, I prefer 7-8". Easier to carry around and easier to hold for reading. My 10" tablet is a Windows 7 tablet and I will probably gets Windows 8 tablet end of the year. Yes... more blasphemy.
Edit: right now it would take a lot for me to get rid of my View. I am on stock HC and love the pen interface. I will probably always get the latest and greatest Archos tablet, but right now the View is the one I always carry with me. I also have the data plan for it which is very convenient.
Bluetooth 4.0 would be great.
A better way to output HDMI (The MHL stuff is just added bulk and works intermittently for me).
7 or 8 inch
better resolution
better gpu
continued scribe support/more apps that take advantage of it
less bezel, more screen real estate
built in kickstand?

They would have to break into my house and fill my current flyer with holes. My girlfriend is looking for a flyer now even. The flyer runs amazingly regardless of the specs so I have no reason to want anything new. No tablets I've played with yet, impressed me the way the flyer did.

Being totally realistic here.. if the flyer or the tf101 don't suit your tablet needs nothing in the tablet world does.

So far, nothing. The only reason, right now, that I would want to replace my Flyer is because something I did to the Flyer (eg: break it somehow...) I don't want anything larger than 7", I love the pen, and I have no complaints about battery life, screen or OS stability. My previous 7" tablet (cheap Chinese variety) really was a test (to see if 7" would work) and from day one after buying it, I have been on the lookout for a better quality 7" (which took almost 1 1/2 years to come!). Since I've gotten my Flyer, I've not even looked at different tablets...

I like my samsung captivate.. incredibly flexible when it comes to romming.
I want htc hardware in a phone, the problem is that if I'm going to use a protective case anyway, it defeats the purpose of that high quality metal feeling phone..
I have 3 Tablets:
HTC EVO VIEW 4G (WiFi Only)
WiFi Xoom (GED with ICS)
BlackBerry Playbook (With OS 2.0)
They're all really nice tablets. If you are looking for another nice 7" Tablet then the Playbook is Great for the price ($199). Awesome screen, 1080p Video Recording, HDMI Out, Bluetooth and the OS (QNX) is head & shoulders above IOS & Android. Playbook is really smooth and the Browser is the best Tablet Browser out there (there is only 1 Browser out there that tops it in tests and that is Chrome for Desktops). Apps are coming along.
The sub -$199 Google Nexus tablet.

I'm itching for Ice Cream Sandwich and I'm annoyed that we'll probably never see it, neither officially nor through XDA development. I've been eyeing the Galaxy Tab 2.0 7" which comes with ICS.
But I was wondering, how do the specs compare in terms of performance, mainly the processor/GPU and camera? It seems it has a dual core processor, so perhaps it's slightly more powerful? (The difference in storage and pen input are complete non-issues for me.)
It may also be much thinner and lighter?

No scribe digitised pen though ... I thought the pen was great, really useful for scribbling accurate diagrams on the fly .... and then I lost my pen Life is dreadful now, tablet is still great, but without the pen I realise its not half as useful - replacement on order & I'll be more careful with it now !
If you haven't used a Flyer for an extended period with a pen you won't realise.
It's pretty much a wash for you except you get ICS.
The 1Ghz dual core vs 1.5Ghz single core has been debated back and forth about which is faster.
I've never had a problem with speed on my view, it has a great screen, it has the pen input (for me it's become a necessity), the stand alone gps etc etc. It just works for what I need.
Galaxy tab is more expensive, has no pen input, same specs other than the processor, but comes with ICS. *shrug*
In real life applications the Flyer will be faster than the Sammy since very little software acutally can take advantage of the dual core. I played with the Sammy at bestbuy. It's ok, but ICS seems to offer very little difference from Honeycomb.
I'd be more interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note with Pen, except I would never buy anything from AT&T.
Ics uses processor optimization . So it will use both the cores efficiently . The price is only 250. Seems like a steal to me. Plus i love Samsung browser, smooth as butter . Plus it will be supported with updates. Its also very sleek. The ui is much nicer and will be smoother than sense. Honestly though , don't lie, i know you guys see the lag on the view . Its very obvious . If you say you don't see it youre just lieing to yourself.
Go for it, i would if i didn't have this tab already.
HTC is rumored to preping a Samsung Galaxy Note competitor . Should have 5-inch screen with a 1080x1920 pixels of resolution, and it will be a true RGB display. A quad-core Krait processor inside with Adreno 320 GPU The upcoming HTC device will debut Sense 5.0 and have a Scribe pen.

"processor optimization" laughable....
there is no way single threaded software can be made mutli-threaded on the fly. Marketing speak... LOL
The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is one of the two tablets that I'm considering to replace my View. The Nexus tablet is the other one. I'm going to wait until that comes out before I make a decision.
The guy that the Flyer crowd has "hired" to make ICS for them has said he will do a View build when he's done with the Flyer build. If that happens, I'll probably just keep the View.

Its not bad its just kind of slow. Im too used to exynos butter.
I can vouch that it seems dual core makes a bigger difference than raw speed. My flyer seemed pretty quick untill I got my vivid which is 300 MHz slower but has a dual core. That being said I don't know all the differences between hc and ics on tablets. Ics was pretty snappy on my ancient galaxy s 1 based captivate, honeycomb might be just designed around dual cores while ics is more friendly to all hardware. That being said I still love this tablet and its not slow by any means. For whatever reason with globaltrons stock ics Rom with s-OFF it does seem faster. But at any rate I paid $200 for this tab and only got it at that price because it was refurbished. The tab 2 is a brand new tab at $250 and that's a full Android tablet with all the fixings priced against glorified ereaders. I wouldn't sell my Flyer to get one now but indeed its a bargain for anyone who wants a tab and doesnt have one... Why would anyone get a kindle fire or nook tablet now?
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using XDAF
And yeah development is a big issue with HTC device's. They are just harder to mod than Samsungs and development is also dependent on buzz and hype. Samsung has had all the hits and they have unlocked bootloaders.
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using XDA
The big issue is whether you want to be able to use a stylus or not. The trade off for not having ICS is huge.
Stock HC is FINE on the View for the capabilities you will get with the stylus--IFF you need it. Otherwise, if you are just looking for a tablet and have no need for the pen, then go for Samsung. ICS a huge improvement but if you are okay with a tablet that works very well and is useful then the View is fine.
You may want to consider the Flyer since there is far more development for it. For me, the View is a muuuuuch sexier device.

I really don't care about the pen because the price is absurd. Besides you can always get a regular capacitive stylus. I got my Flyer because it was a cheap honeycomb tablet with good hardware and a gig of ram.
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using XDA
With the Flyer discontinued and the Samsung GTab selling for $250.00 there's really little point in seeking out a Flyer if you're in the market for a 7" tablet (unless you absolutely positively must have the stylus). But if you already own a Flyer, I'd hold out for a Quad Core Tegra 3 tablet to replace the Flyer. I doubt the Samsung GTab 2.0 will feel a whole lot faster, but the new Tegra 3 tablets definitely run faster. Having played Pinball Arcade on my Flyer and an ASUS Transformer Prime, I can promise you, the difference is very obvious.
Now, me personally, I'm going to hold on to my Flyer for some time. I really like this little tablet. But I'm also about to go out and buy an ASUS Transformer TF300. Played with one in Best Buy and it's awesome, especially with the keyboard dock.
I don't plan on replacing my Flyer anytime soon. I'm planning on holding onto it for a couple years. As for the tab 2 no there aren't enough reasons to give up the flyer for one plus its got weaker cameras and less storage, but if your in the market for a tab now then yes definitely get a tab 2 over a discontinued unsupported flyer or view.

I don't see anything close to what I need except the Samsung Galaxy Note. When I replace my phone, I'll get that. When I need more power I'm not getting a tablet, I'm getting a Asus or Toshiba Ultrabook. As thin as a tablet with 10x the power and a 14" screen.
I need a 7 inch amoled type screen tab
