[Q] Is it possible to do "upside down" landscape? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I already have a power cord installed in the dashboard of my car, but it's on the left side of the dashboard. I'd like to have the flyer on a mount with the power jack on the left, but then it's upside down. Is there any way to enable it to do landscape with the buttons on the top?

Maybe not on Gingerbread with the buttons, but it is possible on some HC roms without the hard buttons.

I'll have to look into that then - currently still running stock GB. I do like the hardware buttons though, so hesitating to go HC until they get them working there.

As you have probably read, many of us find the hard buttons redundant in HC and therefore unnecessary, but I understand if you have a special application you might need them.

I was expecting with HC update that Flyer could be used within 360 deg (since no hardware buttons to be used) but still it acts in 2-way as if there're still HW buttons.

You should ask Lee if he can add that option to his HC LeeDroid ROM, its theoretically possible but requires modification of the HTC sense framework

Yea, it would be a nice considering that when you have a foliio case and it is orientated like a book then to landscape you have to turn it the un natural way in my opinion.

That's strange, at least on the Streak 7 with HC you can rotate all four directions. It's like the flyer in that it started with android 2.x and OTA'ed officially to 3.x (2.2 -> 3.2) Must be a rom limitation then as my Streak 10 also supports all 4 rotations (but it launched with 3.1)

backlit keyboard for AThena/Advantage/Ameo....Does it exist?

I have had my Advantage 7501 for over a month now and love it except for a couple of features.
**One is the key baord is hard to use in a low light situation.
** Another is the lack of a DEDICATED phone button on screen
**Third is the camera settings ie shaky images
maybe a little experience is around that has not found me and my personal issues yet...........
Any ideas?
Hi there
Nope, no blacklit screen dedicated to the Athena that I know of.
BUT having the same needs, here is how I do with my Athena + Black dual PK 3 ROM:
- sound settings: play a soft "tick" when pressing a hardware key. This alone makes the Athena keyboard, in my opinion, infinitly more usable as it provides you with a "feedback" stimulus, even if it's not a mecanical one. You *know* when you have pressed a key "successfully";
- in low light conditions: the TekSoft software keyboard that's integrated (and the full, unrestricted version too !) into the Black Dual PK ROM;
- Use AEButtons to redefine the FLAG button as a phone button, that's what I did.
HTH !
I use AEBPlus and have the Win key single-press assigned to the Green key function, but mostly I use the Jabra BT8010 to answer and software like PocketCM to dial.
I have PKs AP Dual 3.0 ROM which includes Teksoft's FingerTouch soft keyboard which I use in the dark. (If you're doing that much with the keyboard in the dark, maybe your spouse is right. Put *that* thing away for a while....)
The camera is HTC. And it is, after all, a phone camera. But yeah, one would hope HTC would learn that just a great camera on a unit like this would sell a million more of them at a much higher price tag.

[Q] 180-degree Screen Rotation

Coming from WM6, I find it odd that there's no manual screen rotation options in Android. Odder still, that there's no 180-degree rotation mode.
I have a universal Car Mount from my old phone that I like, mostly because it attaches to the air vents. I find this positioning is better than a conventional windshield mount on my car, and avoids the typical issues with suction cups continuously falling off (or melting into place).
The problem is that the dock blocks the USB charging ports on the corner of the Atrix. I can get around this issue by putting the phone in upside down, however to do so I need to 'flip' the display.
The Motorola Auto-Rotate feature does not support the 180-degree position out of the box. I've found several posts asking about this feature, but no answers except a vague reference to Cyanogen Mod, implying that this will take more than a standard app/widget can do.
So, is it possible to do this on the Atrix now that we have root and deodexing options available? This is my first Android phone, so I'm not yet familiar with its innards.
Alternatively, is it possible to flip the display on a given application, specifically Nav or one of the offline GPS programs?
Ideally, what I'd like to see is:
A Widget or shortcut to manually set and/or toggle screen rotation like what was standard on WM6. Outside of the car dock, this is also useful when using the phone on a desk or bed at odd angles.
Script/Shortcut/Icon that sets a specific rotation and then launches the car dock (or GPS app).
Use Launcher Pro.
Gives you full 360 screen rotation.

No, unless I'm missing something, it does not.
LauncherPro does allow the home screen to be rotated (which is not what I care about right now), but it does not support rotating it 180-degrees (upside down).
Ahh you're right.
The dock will flip to 180, but the screen stops at 90.
Any ideas?
I don't mind playing with Androids internals (time permitting) if this is possible , but as I said my experience with Android so far is minimal (particularly compared to the xda experts).
According to http://developer.motorola.com/docst...at_runtime__Allow_the_user_to_set_preferences, the only options for application preferences are landscape or portrait. Not sure if this is applicable though.
I've found an old related thread for the G1 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449688&page=2 added screen rotation to that device. It does note though that not all rotations are implemented, and is probably also talking in the context of 2.1.
Another related thread at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...e-rotations-by-90-but-enable-rotations-by-180 seems to imply that the 180-degree rotation won't work until we get the Android 2.3 update.
The android docs includes a ROTATION_180 definition for the Surface object with a setOrientation method on http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/Surface.html
It appears that CyanogenMod 7 adds this capability: http://nightly.posterous.com/rotate-180
Clearly we're not going to see CM on the Atrix for a while, but is there anyway we can backport this feature into the Atrix, or will this have to wait for the fabled 2.3 update?

[Q] Annoying popping up of keyboard / menu on Viewpad7

Both the on-screen keyboard and the menu keep annoyingly popping up on my Viewpad7. It is driving me crazy.
At some point I thought it had to do with how I moved the device around, but I still think it's a random thing. It was/is a problem before and after loading it with a custom rom.
Is this a known hardware (or software?) bug ? If so, is there a cure for this? I have looked for settings, but was unable to find them. Thank.
SWVer=3.16K

Hi
Have the same problem and some other users here too.
Seems the Touchscreen/Softkeys are faulty and have to be replaced.
I bought mine 1 week ago and day by day it went worser. I didn't upload a custom rom so far, so it's a stock problem.
Now every 2nd time I take the device it vibrates and menu/keyboard keeps popping up/down. Looks like, the "menu" softkey does his own business, right?
Also the G-Sensor/Compass seems to be defective for me - after a few hours I have to calibrate always.
I made some videos, look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258052
Where have you bought yours?
Regards
With my device it was when I held it in landscape mode and touched the bottom part of the right side or the rightmost part of the bottom of the device itself. It was also HWVer 103. You will most likely have to get the screen and soft keys replaced like I did.

Or, it could be just be a "normal" thing with Froyo OS itself, I've noticed it on 2 newer build - both ITE enabled - in U.S. market.
SWVer=3.41
MODEL=FM6-0001
HWVer:107
Android 2.2.2
This happened only on certain Apps - even when Auto Rotation under Settings are turned off, it will switch to the "opposing" mode and won't go back once it make that orientation change, i.e. YouTube whereas Angry Birds will stay landscape all the time. Device has been calibrated & sensors working, as I had no issues with GPS status & Maps, etc.
Should be a simple fix or patch on the OS or custom ROM .... BTW, I'm running the stock, rooted 2.2.2 ROM while waiting for an OC one with the ITE kernel working to boost the Quadrant scores, LOL.
Ours seems to be more a hardware problem since it happens anywhere, with autorotation on or off, after a complete hard reset (without any additional apps installed) and simply by touching the case itself (not the screen)...

Hmmm, interesting after I checked out a few YouTube videos & it sounded like it's all HWVer 103 yet running Froyo 2.2.2. Is the device ITE enabled as I noticed that the pop-up keyboard is "standard" whereas mine has Swype style keybaord with ITE.
It's a pain to get it returned, exchanged & repaired at the authorized factory service center and be without the use for 2+ weeks, unless one's within a 30 days period & can send it back to the place of purchase for a new one (could take just as long)
Another post mentioned a new stock ROM just being released, it might be worth an effort or try to flash it (FM6-3350-0-1008-A01.nb0) upon downloading & using the SUTL3 app to do it - would need to root it again - if one is brave enough (since it's going back for repair/exchange anyway?)
BUT, I'm guessing whether this newly released stock ROM is for ITE devices vs. non-ITE ones with HWVer 103, 106 and 107's ???
The button clicking by itself or when under vibration is an HW fault.
pulling the back off and wedging some paper near the touch IC to keep pressure on it has fixed mine.
Brought it back to the store for repair. I think they put a new screen and cover (back) on it. Works like a charm.

Can you describe more precisely how and what did you do or can you (better) do some photos?
Did you pulled off a back cover and inserted a piece of paper somewhere?
Need to experiment
Software solution
This is a solution from a user 'retrochip' from 4pda.ru forum
(Link to original post in Russian and i'm not able to post is here)
1. Root your device (can be done with Gingerbreak)
2. Find out codes for Menu button and Search button (229 and 217)
3. Edit configuration file /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl (you can use RootExplorer)
In qwerty.kl:
Find text:
key 217 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED
and change to:
key 217 MENU WAKE_DROPPED
Find text:
key 229 MENU WAKE_DROPPED
and change to (just comment it with #):
#key 229 MENU WAKE_DROPPED
Save and reboot.
Now Menu button isn't active and Search button works as a Menu button.
No annoying random popping keyboard anymore.
This has killed my all soft buttons, now the only option is to fix it in adb, because screen keyboard doesn't appear in terminal, I need to touch menu then screen keyboard.

They are there, they're just on the screen now instead of below it. Honeycomb uses an on-screen navigation bar and does not officially support capacitive navigation buttons. In order to get the capacitive buttons back, you'll have to wait for a ROM that enables them, wait for ICS, or downgrade back to Gingerbread.
you really think they r going to port ics over soon

1. The LEEDroid custom HC ROM has the option to turn the hard buttons back on, but of course they are redundant and you cannot turn off the system bar on screen.
2. No ICS will not be soon, not functional anyway. There are some bootable SDK builds of ICS out there for some devices, but that's just for play. Lots of things like the touch screen don't work and you need the OEM to provide some stuff before a working build or port can be done. Once HTC has a working released ROM for a device (say EVO) with similar hardware a useful port might be possible.

No, not officially from HTC/Sprint. There's no guarantee that it will ever receive it officially. I'm sure the developers here will work on something as soon as they're able to, but there's no time frame on that. Probably later rather than sooner.

It uses the device buttons. I believe its just the Galaxy Nexus that uses the on screen buttons. Once some custom roms come out based on official ICS update, you can flash the on-screen button. I flashed it on LPH a while ago and had the on-screen buttons if thats what you want. But it feels like you have less screen space since you have device buttons as well as on-screen using that mod.
But to answer your question, the SGS ICS uses device buttons on official build
Thanks for the reply.
Rather use the device buttons and have full screen display.
Glad to hear its possible,
read somewhere ICS allowed on screen buttons only, glad that is not the case.
