My ATRIX arrived today and I just purchased the laptop dock. The dock should arrive in a week or so.
I want advise on what rom I should use that will allow the laptop dock to keeps it functionality.
Send me your favorite roms for the ATRIX and please tell me why you like this rom.

You wont be using cyanogenmod roms, then. You will have to stick to blur roms.

Any MOTOBLUR roms you can recommend for me then?

The ninja ROM by Sam Cripp. Everything works and its simple. Its way down in the ATRIX development section.
It works on Lapdock too.

Let's try to CM7,CM9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403372
To be honest, if you got it from AT&T, I would wait the 30 days before unlocking the bootloader. Test out the phone and see if you like it and see if you would rather have the Atrix 2 with the bigger screen and 8mp camera (no tegra 2 though) or another phone.
Darkside is gooood

Darkside runs great with good battery life. Just make sure you flash a fruitcake webtop after installing the Rom if you use it.

I would recommend this as well. Just to be safe.
Otherwise I use Darkside 4.4 and the 2.3.6 Webtop with Firefox 8. Both are found in the development thread in separate threads.
Darkside 4.4 with 2.3.6 webtop works best for me as I haven't found anything better yet.
If cyanogen had working webtop I'd be using that though, but at least they have the fingerprint sensor working.
I saw someone mention the Atrix 2, and I think that the lack of fingerprint scanner kind of sucks, but 8MP is nice I'm sure. Also the original lapdock is better than the new one IMO because of screen size and thickness, although it does take up more area. Not to mention the bottom of the phone is not obfuscated when it's sitting on it with the lid closed as just a regular dock.
I bought the phone off ebay so not too worried about the bootloader.
I just want a rom that works great with the laptop dock.
I will try Ninja and darkside.
Thanks again.

yes it is n it is pretty stable too
I don't know about using the dock station, but here Aura Rom is working pretty well. It's fast, very stable and everything works good. Battery life is booster and I think WiFi is also boosted. I've already tried CM7 and still think it will be the best rom for Atrix, but it's not stable so far. That's why I recommend Aura.
I will check it out. Thanks.

I absolutely love the Alien ROM. It's based on stock so you can use the webtop. It has a beautiful optional skin, is very smooth and works perfectly with everything I've tried. I've had no issues with it and would highly recommend it.

Thank you.
Now with the alien rom or any other roms can you use the lapdock without wifi or a data plan with tethering?
I am grandfathered in the unlimited data so it's crucial I keep the unlimited data.

Must use wifi with dock or you risk losing your unlimited plan, as att considers using your phone's connection as tethering.

is there some tethering method that would be less detectable?
I know there's been many discussions as to how it's practically impossible to hide tethering from carriers. but... just checking at this point.

i don't tether nor do i intend on tethering any devices my phone. i did, however, enable tethering to use my lapdock using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160452
is this something that AT&T would be able to see?
and, if so, is there a different/better alternative so that i may be able to use my lapdock?
thanks in advance.

I do this also, I wonder if anyone has been flagged using this method. All I want is to be able to use my data on the lapdock, and not get busted. I barely do it anyway, but sometimes the need is there.
Maybe a dumb question... but whats the difference between this and using the built in feature with CM7?
Thanks!!
If you use an APN method the carrier can see the extra hop you take through packet sniffing. All network traffic has a TTL, (Time To Live), which is different for mobile devices and laptops. You carrier receives packets from your device, but since the packets come from your laptop, then pass through your device, they can see this packet difference. It is possible to "modify" the TTL, and if I understand correctly apps such as WiFi Tether are in effect showing the packets as coming from your device, so the TTL is seen as normal by your carrier.

OP,
Yes, CM7 is worth it IMO. if you have ran CM7 in another phone, youll be even more impressed with it on the photon. It almost responds faster then my brain does when. milliseconds to open PDf files and apps.
Battery life, yes i do see a GREAT improvement. Joker just released a kernel work for CM7 and will be making further tweaks for Uv that should make it even better! even when i ran it on my EVO, battery life jumped. Yes the photon is already amazing batt life, but CM7 cleans up alota stuff that is really crap in your phone. Im not afraid to travel wo a charger running CM7. on the evo, i would leave for the weekend wo a plug, and this last weekend i did the same thing with running CM7 on my photon.
least try it if you are ok without 4G and share your experience. CM7 is a streamline platform that is PACKED full of goodies. It cleans up your phone and will make it smooth and snappy. It will be a whole new BEAST!
Im glad cybik is with the photon community. his CM7 build is what i have been dreaming for since the day i threw my EVO to the grown.
Honestly, i could careless about ICS with now having CM7. Once team CM builds CM9, if that is ported over then sure as hell ill flash it, but im not a kid waiting for santa now. CM7 has me HAPPY!
disregard post please
^.^ won't work.
CM7 with the new joker kernel works great! It's fast with good battery life. I have no 4G near me (even thought I live in the most densely populated state in the country) so I don't miss it due to unlocking.

I haven't rooted and I haven't found a need to, yet. I probably will when I find an AOSP ROM that I like.
If you want the vanilla ICS look and feel on your home screen, try Apex launcher. It's faster and snappier than using sense.
I would say yes, at the least it will allow you to rid the bloatware you will never use. Unless you use or like the bloat and some of the useless apps put on all phones.
Apex launcher did it for me. Thanks!
I'm actually not concerned with any bloatware, which is only a few programs. Guess I'll be leaving this one alone then.

All the ICS ROMs are working. Some are works in progress but the ones based off of the latest release works fine. +1 for Speed Rom. Best ROM yet with most of the bloat removed. Something to hold me over until a true AOSP ROM comes out.

I broke last night and gave the Speed Rom a try. Very nice!! It doesn't hurt, but it's good to see all that bloatware removed. Rooting was a breeze but I'll hold off on the S-Off for as long as I can lol. Not too crazy about grounding the phone out just yet.
It's only been a day, but I've yet to run into any issues with the Speed Rom and battery life is great. One weird thing though is when I get a call and the phone is locked, I have to unlock the screen to see who it is. Is that normal?

How long battery life you get now?
Give or take.
As you can see, I don't really do much on my phone, but this is what I got.
