SD Card can't be read or formatted - Help needed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using checkrom revolution hd v4 for 2 weeks with DK 2.5.2 with no problems. But after a nornal reboot today, the SD card (internal) can't be read even after several reboots. I tried to formatted it but it can't be formatted either. Just bought my SGS2 two months ago only.
What should i do to recover function of my SD card again? Is it because of the custom rom that caused this issue?
Please help. Thanks!

Try doing a full-stock restore, making sure to do a factory reset, wipe the cache and Dalvik cache along the way. If you're still having problems, take it to a Samsung service center.
That's really strange though - I'd assume that if the OS can't read/write the internal storage, then it shouldn't be able to flash a ROM, or even really load the OS?

just a thought... have you tried to: connect your phone via usb as external drive and have windows do a repair of harddrive.
i had a sdcard which was "read only" under android, after that procedure it worked again flawless
in my case the cause was a faulty titanium backup file....

Thanks for the help! I suspect it might be Titanium Backup problem. The OS finally read the internal SD after a few more reboots but all the data inside is wiped out Not to mention I accidentally formatted my external SD by mistake as well. Sigh...got to restore everything bit by bit. Do you think it could be a media problem initially (i.e. problem with the internal SD)?

[Q] How can you wipe EVERYTHING from the phone

Hi everyone,
I've booted into recovery, wiped the dalvick, wiped the cache, wiped the data+factory reset, then installed villain rom,
and sure enough, my /sdcard folder is still full of junk... even though the phone didn't come with an SDCARD (slot is empty, if I add and sdcard it mounts in external_sd).
So i'm wondering, how can you, totally, permanently, irrevocably, delete absolutely everything from the phone, without exception
Thank you!
Input *2767*3855# into dialpad.
This will leave the sd card untouched right? Right now when I install roms I back a few apps up seperately to external, run Ti, then do a nand. I take the whole internal sd and transfer it over to my pc and that is my backup. I have been leaving the sd in with the phones internal wipes and it is untouched. This is what I want, I have my music and wallpapers, ringtones etc there and they can sit through a wipe without being touch and its saves having to move them back onto the phone. Wasn't sure if the hard reset would also wipe the sd card which is why I have been pulling it. I think on my next flash I may just back up the sd card and let fly if no one has tried it yet.

This will wipe everything apart from your external SD Card! It will be like the device came from the factory.
Yes, this is why I do it and I knew that, I like a completely fresh start on a new rom and Ti makes it pretty painless. I just wasn't sure if it also wiped/formatted the sd card which is what I don't want. This way I can leave all my music and such there that just moves from one rom to the next and not have to mess with it so this is exactly what I was hoping to hear.
Well looks like my thread was highjacked :-(
I'm trying to delete everything, including the SD

That is kind of what I suggested the hard reset will do. It will wipe everything!
did you try this?

(A) Install problem to SD Card

Hi
I have the problem that i cant install some apps or update them.
In the market i get the error while install to SD card.
this issue was not at any app but some.
I Tried recovery from CWM not working.
Clear any Cash Dalvic cache formating sd and external sd card. I get the same error.
I Installed an Original Rom and set Re-Partition but i get the same error with 2.3.6.
I solved my Problem with a pit while flashing 2.3.6 with Odin.
So i used the Original 2.3.6 3 files Version and set the Pit in the Attechmend.
Re-Partition set and the problem was fixed.
After that i installed a custom Kernel with Odin and Installed Omega 1.1 ICS in CWM all my problems are solved.
BUT NOTE YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA
You don't have to loose all your data you just need to back it up properly first
yes but nobody can tell you where the problem come from.
Maybe you backup your problem.

Whats with the attitude? It doesn't matter what problem you have you never have to lose all your data... It takes 30 mins to set up a phone again from stock to being identical to how it was...
with this issue i reinstalled 2.3.6 and have the same issue. clear you can backup but maybe its not working after that.
there are a lot of people woth the same issue. and wipe didnt help!

when you dont have this issue its hard to explain.
Unnecessary post. Deleted.
I have had this problem with any ICS ROM I installed on my SGS II. I thought of simply unmounting the SD Card, try installing the Application or an Update for the Application, it always worked. Yes it does sound like there is too much to do each time you try installing a new app which will fail due to the mounted SD Card. But if the problem is unknown, and flashing a file to solve 1 problems breaks other two functions is a bigger and bitter problem, might as well try this simple solution.
Good Luck
For me it isn't the "sd-install" problem that occoured with cf-root since ICS 4.0.3 XXLPB.
But maybe it's one of the things that caused the problem.
Flashing back gingerbread, even a 5 part FW did NOT solve the problem, so i have a bad feeling about this...
First i thought the file "vold.stab" in folder "etc" that is responsible for the mounting, is just messed up.
But this file SHOULD be overwritten when flashing a 5 part FW... or not?
So i think my hardware is damaged...
But i never had any failure while flashing... the problem just happened suddenly...
Just unmount sd card and install

Please read my previous 2 posts. It's not this problem.
The last resort to force the phone to use the internal card again should be to flash a 5 part official FW while having no external card inserted. But even after that procedure it still don't recognizes the internal card for apps...
It uses the external only. When having no external inserted, i can install apps only to phone storage. It's similiar to the known ICS Beta problem, but with a card swap in addition. And it's permanent. Flashing the Gingerbread FW that was on my phone when i bought it also didn't fix the problem.
Normally it's like this:
Phone storage, about 2GB, path: /mnt, for apps
Internal SD, 11.5GB, path: /mnt/sdcard, for apps and data
External SD, card size, path: /mnt/sdcard/external_sd, for data only
For me it's like this now:
Phone storage, about 2GB, path: /mnt, for apps
Internal SD, 11.5GB, path: /mnt/sdcard, FOR DATA ONLY
External SD, card size, path: /mnt/sdcard/external_sd, FOR APPS AND DATA
It just happened suddenly about a week ago. And i got several problems related to this.
Sorry. I was in a hurry and Didnt read the post.

[Q] What to do if I lost access to my internal storage as well as sd card

Hi, new guy with english problems here, be gentle
So basically I lost access to any kind of storage on my SGS2 running CM10.1. Here's what happened. I was using internal and sd for a long time, then, as I needed my SDHC elsewhere i removed it. Nothing was lost as all data was stored internally. BUT. After formatting SD in FAT32 and putting it back everything crashed. Apps are refusing to work, demanding an SD card. Files Manager says that folder was lost. All of them. First thing I wanted to do was to flash CM once again, a newer NB but my PC does not read internal storage either, and putting it in sd doesn't do me any good as cwm doesn't see it also. CM can access internal, so i flashed the same version of CM once again - the only one i got there. Nothing changed. I'm a bit lost and seek any advice
U checked if u really format it with Fat32?

Sure. Also I formatted it with SDFormatter, thanks to this CWM can mount it and format by itself, but OS does not respond anyway

Marshmallow SD as internal storage after factory reset

Dear all,
Had to do a factory reset after my Android 6 crashed and wouldn't reboot properly. My SD card was set as internal. Now Android says it doesn't support the card and needs to format it again.
Why? What sort of half-baked development is that, Android not readopting the card... ? Users can lose photos and other important data that way, no?
Is this preventable while still using SD as internal?
Thanksfor helping

well when you did a factory reset with you sd set as internal. the data now being stored on your sd was wiped and this made your sd corrupt. until twrp finds a way to fix this or pushes a new method for this issue I would stay away from formatting data/cache while using your sd as internal
Thank you.
If that is so, it's misleading. Because a reset isn't supposed to touch data or the SD.
So what would have happened if I had removed the SD prior to resetting?
I had no choice because wiping cache or dalvik didn't help and fixing permissions or reflashing also didn't... and I had no more access to the UI...

A reset does just that it resets the device. Which means it wipes all user data. If you had user data on the sd card then it as stated messed it up.
This was a move mainly focused at low tier devices that came with no internal memory. To be honest it will never be perfect. So here is my advise. Don't use it if you don't have to. Keep your SD card as external storage for pictures and such.

HELP!!!

So I'm just literally fu*ked up. Everyting started yesterday then I decided to clean my phone using SDmaid like I do regularly once a month or so.. After cleaning it I noticed that most of my apps disappeared. Then I just opened settings, few other apps and everything crashed. Then I was pressing all the buttons and lockscreen showed up, but screen was not responding to my touches. I force rebooted it, but after booting everything was laggy and frezed again. Then I entered TWRP and cleared davlik cache and cache. Still nothing changed. I reflashed ROM. Nothing. I deleted everything, formated memory, wiped all the parts. And then connected my opx to pc, to upload rom, kernel, supersu. Then I noticed that the sd card isn't responding. I took it out and connected directly to my pc. Tried formatting it, chkdisk in command prompt, virus scan and so on.. Nothing - all my files left and they are unusable just like the card itself. How do I fix this? Then after wiping I noticed one thing - it says dev/zero process ended wit ERROR=255 and it happens all the time then I try to wipe /data. So I assume the /data is corrupted too? I hope you understood something and will be able to help me. Now excuse me while I'll be crying in the corner :crying::crying::crying:
How I assume is that the SDMaid app somehow managed to break my sd card and /data? Help, I really need my phone tomorrow.

it might be corrupted then. try out deleting and recreating partition table:
go cmd lane(admin rights)
1. diskpart
2. list disk
3. select diskN #where number is your microSD
4. clean
5. create partition primary size=x #X stands for unallocated space
6. select partition1
7. format fs=fat32 quick
8. assign (adds a letter for drive)

EDIT: So I removed the card and reset my phone to the factory settings like you suggested. Also did all the OTA updates and it seems to be working fine. (I hope /data issue fixed too) And I think I just take the micro sd card back to the shop for repair.

Indeed I would you suggest doing that, the first(factory reset) keep it, its pretty useful and handy tool. I also suggest you to not use any "system" clearing tools, android its not like windows ^_^ there is almost nothing to clean
