So I'm just literally fu*ked up. Everyting started yesterday then I decided to clean my phone using SDmaid like I do regularly once a month or so.. After cleaning it I noticed that most of my apps disappeared. Then I just opened settings, few other apps and everything crashed. Then I was pressing all the buttons and lockscreen showed up, but screen was not responding to my touches. I force rebooted it, but after booting everything was laggy and frezed again. Then I entered TWRP and cleared davlik cache and cache. Still nothing changed. I reflashed ROM. Nothing. I deleted everything, formated memory, wiped all the parts. And then connected my opx to pc, to upload rom, kernel, supersu. Then I noticed that the sd card isn't responding. I took it out and connected directly to my pc. Tried formatting it, chkdisk in command prompt, virus scan and so on.. Nothing - all my files left and they are unusable just like the card itself. How do I fix this? Then after wiping I noticed one thing - it says dev/zero process ended wit ERROR=255 and it happens all the time then I try to wipe /data. So I assume the /data is corrupted too? I hope you understood something and will be able to help me. Now excuse me while I'll be crying in the corner :crying::crying::crying:
How I assume is that the SDMaid app somehow managed to break my sd card and /data? Help, I really need my phone tomorrow.

it might be corrupted then. try out deleting and recreating partition table:
go cmd lane(admin rights)
1. diskpart
2. list disk
3. select diskN #where number is your microSD
4. clean
5. create partition primary size=x #X stands for unallocated space
6. select partition1
7. format fs=fat32 quick
8. assign (adds a letter for drive)

EDIT: So I removed the card and reset my phone to the factory settings like you suggested. Also did all the OTA updates and it seems to be working fine. (I hope /data issue fixed too) And I think I just take the micro sd card back to the shop for repair.

Indeed I would you suggest doing that, the first(factory reset) keep it, its pretty useful and handy tool. I also suggest you to not use any "system" clearing tools, android its not like windows ^_^ there is almost nothing to clean

I tried to flash a rom for the first time, and i'm noob at this.. i followed a couple of tutorials ( [Guide] Complete Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom & Newbie FaQ [Updated 02/05] ) and it all worked untill step:
8. Select Wipe from the menu, then select:
Wipe data/factory Reset
Wipe Dalvik-cache
Wipe SD:ext partition
Wipe battery stats
Wipe rotate settings
Press back button
Select Flash Zip from SD Card
Select the file
Click Confirm
N.B. Ignore any "errors", they are normal and usually mean you're not using that feature.
9. Once it is done, select Reboot and you will boot into the OS. Once you are loaded in make sure you format your SD card once more through the settings menu and then reboot the phone one last time. This will ensure you get the correct apps.

wow, that took like 5 minutes to load! its working fine now.. guess my sdcard is broken
I had similar problems at one point, I re-formatted my card, re-did the partitioning, and basically started from scratch
That worked for me
Is the computer you're downloading to on a wireless network? I've had problems with corrupt zips when downloading to my netbook. No such problems with the ones on wire.
if you can, put the micro sd in an external reader and format it on the computer, and try again.

i'm going to try and do what rhamsterman said first since i dont have the equipment to put it in my pc
1: you might have crc errors during download; try downloading on another PC
2: reformat your sd
3: use another sd
4: looks like something that might happen if the ROM wasn't signed properly; resign the rom with a test key
Hello
I downloaded an app called 'To Do List' and it created a folder called "download manager" on my SD card which i have since managed to delete.
However, everytime i boot my Hero, it takes a long time to start and always gives me the message that touch input settings is not responding and i have to force close. And then my keyboard does not work. Also, since installing this app my phone does not recognise the SD card. It says "Unavailable" in Settings > SD Card & Phone storage.
I put my SD card in a card reader and connected it to my PC and it recognises it and this is where i deleted the "download manager" folder.
Since then i have installed two different Roms and both are still giving me the same problem.
I have since deleted the app but i think the problem is there is a file called "download manager" in:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
When i click on it, it gives me the option to "Clear data" . So i click on that and it tells me it will permanently delete all of this applications data. However, when i reboot the phone the file is stiill there and running.
I'm no expert but i think this is what's causing the problem. Is there any way i can delete this file so it never comes back cos its really getting on my nerves that my phone isn't working properly.
I have done a factory data reset several times but still i have the same problem.
I have done the reset through Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset.
When installing the new rom i have done data wipe, cache wipe and dalvik wipe.
Still the little ****** doesn't go away.
Can somebody please help?
Thank you.
try an Sd card wipe as well when flashing a new rom.. including wiping your ext partition and then re forming.. that is if you are using an ext apps2sd
i'm reluctant to re-format my SD card because i have a lot of music/photos etc stored on there. i do have them backed up on my PC however it does take a long time to drag them onto my SD card.
I deleted the download manager file from my sd card so i'm guessing the problem file it stored on the phones memory.
Is there no way to delete files from the manage applications part on the phone?
Well I think you should give it a go.backup your photos and music and then re Copy them. Even if it does take up to an hour it maybe better than living with the annoyances
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Do you use apps2sd using the ext partition. Not wiping that would be a problem when flashing most new roms

i re formatted my SD card and flashed a new rom and all seems to be ok now. took me a while but it seems to have paid off. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi
I just transferred ALL pics and movies from phone memory to my external card thats 8 GB.
Still it says my phone have 6GB free of 11GB..
So 5 GB are used on what??
Have tried cache cleaners of many kinds but they dont delete much..Maybe 5 MB.
So im wondering why the phone memory take so much GB when im not able to see it anywhere.
Under phone i have a lot of folders, but it dont seem like they are big.
Whats the best thing to do to get more memory on the phone?
Formating?
Well I don't know what you want but if you press *2767*3855# then the phone will do a Factory Reset (All data on Phone memory will be wiped clean, setting and other stuffs too). Remove your SD Card before doing it.
Regards.

Ok.Just think its strange the phone take 5 GB on nothing i can see..
What happens to my backup i made on CWC?
And is this the same kind of factory reset i do in settings-private-?
I can reset to factory there to..
Cache is stored on the data partition not on the sd card so that won't help. Have you already rebooted and check the (hidden) files/folders in /mnt?
2GB for the system/user data.
And loads of other small partitions for cache's, boot loader, modem, etcetc.
Also look at this thread which has all the answers you want.

No..Dont know how to do it.My first android
I have been using checkrom revolution hd v4 for 2 weeks with DK 2.5.2 with no problems. But after a nornal reboot today, the SD card (internal) can't be read even after several reboots. I tried to formatted it but it can't be formatted either. Just bought my SGS2 two months ago only.
What should i do to recover function of my SD card again? Is it because of the custom rom that caused this issue?
Please help. Thanks!

Try doing a full-stock restore, making sure to do a factory reset, wipe the cache and Dalvik cache along the way. If you're still having problems, take it to a Samsung service center.
That's really strange though - I'd assume that if the OS can't read/write the internal storage, then it shouldn't be able to flash a ROM, or even really load the OS?
just a thought... have you tried to: connect your phone via usb as external drive and have windows do a repair of harddrive.
i had a sdcard which was "read only" under android, after that procedure it worked again flawless
in my case the cause was a faulty titanium backup file....

Thanks for the help! I suspect it might be Titanium Backup problem. The OS finally read the internal SD after a few more reboots but all the data inside is wiped out Not to mention I accidentally formatted my external SD by mistake as well. Sigh...got to restore everything bit by bit. Do you think it could be a media problem initially (i.e. problem with the internal SD)?
How do I Completly whipe my phone? I've cleared the cache, and done a factory reset, i've re-flashed with Odin to the stock rom, and yet, when I reboot, and go look under "My Files" , there is still crap there from before ( Most notably, 4 or 5 diffrent folders for Go Locker, Go STore.. etc ).
How do i clean this thing out for a 100% restart?
are the things your seeing on an external SD card?
No. The Directories are ( And i'm ommitting quite a few here, just to give you the idea ).
Android
Application
bluetooth
camera360
...
...
DCIM
external_sd
...
...
...
etc ad nausium..
So since i have the external_sd mount there in the middle, this must be the internal right? WHen I select the external_sd directory, that does contain my external card, and that's fine. I expected that to have stuff on it since i've not formatted it yet.
My DCIM dir still has all the pictures etc in it as well.... ( which I would not have expected since I did a factory wipe, yet there they are too ).
Any idea?

He's saying he wants to wipe his internal SD because it has all his app data from previous ROMs/installations (such as stock). He's probably going to a new ROM and wants maximum storage space and getting rid of all the leftover trash.
Exactly. Just want to make sure the wipe is complete or previous issues will just haunt me.
Look in those folders they should be empty.....The phone creates the folders upon turning on (by factory),,those are the essential folders needed...check it out let us know...they should be empty
They all have stuff in them, and many are not from the os. GoLocker, GoLauncher, etc all have dir's there with data in them, all some , those in particular, i don't have loaded. I've not re-loaded anything yet.
Try going here; Settings > Storage > Format USB Storage
Thats the ticket Thank you.
Or in cwm recovery, go to mounts and storage, and format sdcard

Nope. It just wipes sdcard storage, like you just took it out of the box

I think I'm confused about erasing external sdcard storage and/or internal storage.
"Formatting USB Storage" is which one of these?
And which storage location can you get yourself into trouble with "wiping/formatting?
Maybe neither?
Thank you!
Neither as far as I could tell. I did both. The SD Card is just that, your external memory card. The USB is the "user" storage on the phone, so nothing critical there either. Wipe away safely
Neither as mentioned. As long as youre doing it do from the storage settings from within the stock rom's menus. It only wipes your user data on the external sd and internal storage, if you chose to do so. You may lose any programs installed/moved to sd card also.
Going into CWM youre opening yourself a whole 'nother can of worms. I highly do not recommend going this route if you are not 100% sure of what youre doing. You can seriously render your device useless, aka brick (a term used too lightly).
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
Incorrect.
All you could do in cwm is wipe the os.. In which case just button combo into recovery and flash a ROM.
A Brick is missing or corrupted bootloaders. you cannot format bootloaders in cwm.
And avoiding something because it could be dangerous...instead of taking the maybe 5 minutes to understand what's happening add ya know, actually learn something is just not in the spirit of xda AT ALL.
Read. learn. Try. Share.
