I tried to flash a rom for the first time, and i'm noob at this.. i followed a couple of tutorials ( [Guide] Complete Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom & Newbie FaQ [Updated 02/05] ) and it all worked untill step:
8. Select Wipe from the menu, then select:
Wipe data/factory Reset
Wipe Dalvik-cache
Wipe SD:ext partition
Wipe battery stats
Wipe rotate settings
Press back button
Select Flash Zip from SD Card
Select the file
Click Confirm
N.B. Ignore any "errors", they are normal and usually mean you're not using that feature.
9. Once it is done, select Reboot and you will boot into the OS. Once you are loaded in make sure you format your SD card once more through the settings menu and then reboot the phone one last time. This will ensure you get the correct apps.

When i try to select flash zip from sd card, every pack has a corrupt file (i tried vanilla 2.1, superhero 1.1 and villainrom)
Can someone help me? i did this in the weekend, because i wouldnt need my phone so bad, but i want an OS right now
edit
when i try to wipe dalvik-cache or sd:ext partition i get: error: run 'wipe ext/dalvik-chache' via adb!

dragged the vanillaeclair rom to my sdcard again, and it said that the install was successfull
but when i reboot it, it still crashes on the hero loading screen (nothing happens)

wow, that took like 5 minutes to load! its working fine now.. guess my sdcard is broken
I had similar problems at one point, I re-formatted my card, re-did the partitioning, and basically started from scratch
That worked for me
Is the computer you're downloading to on a wireless network? I've had problems with corrupt zips when downloading to my netbook. No such problems with the ones on wire.
if you can, put the micro sd in an external reader and format it on the computer, and try again.

i'm going to try and do what rhamsterman said first since i dont have the equipment to put it in my pc
1: you might have crc errors during download; try downloading on another PC
2: reformat your sd
3: use another sd
4: looks like something that might happen if the ROM wasn't signed properly; resign the rom with a test key

When I connect my phone to my computer with the USB cable, and mount it, the drives do not show up on my computer. Everything looks correct on the phone. I want to get everything off of the phone. What can be done to fix this??
I have tried uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, rebooting my phone, checking/un-checking debugging, and nothing works. Without fixing this, I can not even Odin back to stock or flash a new ROM.
flash different kernel ! or go to dev section and find sd card fix .
sd not showing up on your computer is kernels fault which one you are on some of them are buggy and wont display sd card in computer tab .
pull your external memmory out of the phone put it in the SD SLOT IN YOUR COMPUTER copy rom of your choice ! eject the sd out of your computer put it back in the phone wualllla

Yes, I did that. Like I said, the phone is acting like it is supposed to, but I can not access either the internal nor external SD card through explorer.
You might want to try replacing the connector cable. I had the same problem with my epic and that fixed it
Good luck

I am running a custom ROM. What do you mean by "Fix permission" & "factory reset"? Will doing a factory reset take me back to stock?
i tell this to everyone who has this problem: start simple. the first thing you should do in this case is reinstall you drivers. i know it sounds silly, but i have frequent mounting issues that are always resolved by simply running the SamsungDrivers.exe and reinstalling them. it refreshes the driver.
not saying its going to work everytime, but its quite possible. ive suggested this to many people in the past and it worked for them.....give it a shot.
bartek was kind enough to repeat what i said in the next post

yes factory reset will leave you on the rom you are on right now just all from scratch all your programs will be wiped and also all unecesary files that might prevent your computer from finding your sd but REINSTALL THE DRIVERS FIRST SEE HOW THAT GOES as sometimes simple things like that are the problem .

My nook tablet is bricked
Turn on the tablet will see the screen will a big n
and nothing happen
I tried to boot from sdcard but it seem don't recognize the sdcard during boot
putting zip files on sdcard is not working
CWM sdcard and ubuntu sdcard also not working
cannot get into CWM and how can I fix it?
I spend over 5 hours but nothing work......
Sometimes the SD Card boot "only" works by plugging in the nook power cable.
I tried more than 50 times by plugging the power cable and still the same....
BTW thank you for answering, if you have any other method, once I can do it, I will try it....
Is the Nook store near by ?
Sad to say no...
I am from Hong Kong....
What SD card are you using, i.e. Class and brand.
The higher class cards do not work all that well for booting from. The Sandisk Class 4 card, any size I imagine, works well for booting off card.
Not sure if this is your problem, but trying a different card my be a good direction to go for a fix, if you can get into CWM it will help.
Also, what specifically did you do/try to get yourself to this point? Always helps to know how you broke it to be able to fix it.
I am using sandisk class sd card
This happen will I try to change back from CM9 with new kernel and TWRP to CWM and CM7.2
After flashing CM7.2 and CWM, it successfully boot for once and then get into this situation on next reboot
I tried ubuntu recovery, sdcard version CM7.2 and this, but nothing work....
It looks like you have a similar problem to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27381972. I think, form skimming over the thread they were able to get into CWM from sdcard - after many attempts. If you can get to that point you should be able to get an adb connection where as you can work your way out of this. Just read the linked thread, it should point you in the right direction.
Good Luck
I tried more than 100 times still noting happen
But when plugging in the power cable and boot the tablet, the indicator keep orange light and not green as it is in that post...
more options
what sdcard version of CWM are you using? you should try with another sdcard just in case, the procedures for a succesful CWM sdcard are the following:
For Windows users:
- Power off your NT and remove sdcard
- Put your sdcard into a card reader (preferably)
- Format your sdcard with SDFormatter https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/eula_windows/ (recommended) or any other but not windows native.
- Download latest Win32DiskImage-binary.zip from https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download (v5.0 recommended)
- Unzip the file
- Run Win32DiskImage.exe - Right click "run as administrator"
- Click the folder button and navigate to select the .img file you just unzipped.
- Click on the disk drive letter label on the right, and choose the letter that corresponds to your SD card.
- Press Write. When it finishes, press Exit.
- Safely eject/remove your sdcard and put it back to your NT
- Plug your device to the a/c power or PC using the USB cable, let it power on by itself do not press any button.
WARNING: This will completely erase your microSD card. Be sure to back it up!

OK let me get in puter I have other options. Obviously something in the boot process is corrupted
Edit: back!
Please try the following:
1. Verify the md5sum the ROM(s) you want to install just to make sure is not corrupted
2. Follow the instructions i posted in here to flash another CWM to discard CWM being part of the problem. Now as you already have the CWM sdcard you just need to add 8gb-16gb_cwm_internal.zip to the sdcard then boot again into CWM sdcard and flash that package
3. After that remove your sdcard and select reboot system now from the CWM menu, if your device boots fine then Congrats, if not then read the options below:
4. Read and try this. If no go, goto #5:
5. Read and try this
LAST RESOURCE:
6. [unbrick] - Fixing partition table, or completely dead nook. Use this ONLY if you have the 16GB model as you did not mention that detail in your posts i'm giving you a warning!

Right i forgot to add that @meghd00t's cwm sdcard already contain the 2 files (tools) that @soshite was talking about , so basically you just need the cwm sdcard, my partition images and adb working.

But after I flash CM7, it still keep booting into CWM rather than CM7....
Thanks for all, I can now get into the stock 1.4.0
I flash the flash-restore-stock.zip from here in CWM
and then using acclaim_update.zip to restore the tablet back to 1.4.0
I guest I may change the boot data and get mess up with it
Finally, thanks again for all help:laugh:
Yeah, for everyone else out there:
You must have stock recovery in order for the acclaim_update.zip to work.
Hello everyone,
I have been trying to put CM10 on my Xperia 10, unsuccessfully.
My phone is rooted, I have the newest CWM, bootloader unlocked.
I flashed the latest Kernel for CM10 (v21), wiped data/factory reset, wiped catche partition, wiped dalvik catche.
When installing the actual ROM I got this message:
E:Can't open /sdcard/CM10-v9.4.zip (bad) Installation aborted.
I redownloaded the ROM, also downloaded v9.3 rom, still same message (with the name change accordingly, of course).
I formatted my SD card and tried doing everything again: flashing and installing. Didn't help.
I've searched everywhere in this forum for the solution, and several people found it, but it differs from phone to phone it seems, and some of the things I tried didn't work. I found no solutions for X10 specifically.
Any ideas please?
That means the download is bad, you need to re-download the zip.

you have to use cm10.4 rom and 21version kernal.
try to download rom using phone browser like opera mobile.
I guess either your ROM is broken (redownload?) or you need to disable script verification in the recovery.

Thank you, it worked - I was able to install CM10 9.4. However another problem now is present - when I try to turn on my phone, it gets stuck at boot animation (the circle with tha name Cyanogen inside). I have found a post that it happened to someone else and after flashing the phone with kernel20 instead of 21, everything was ok. I did the same - still can't boot. What could I try now?
Solved it: I flashed it again with kernel 20 (used Firefox for downloading it) and it worked!
One weird thing: I got a window asking to enter SIM network unlock PIN, which looked kind of scary. But I pressed dismiss and my phone works and feels like an entirely new device, speed has increased and everything is wonderful.
Thank you everyone for your help

All will be fixed if you format your sd card with SDFORMATTER app.
solved: This problem is for bad sdhc
1-download sdformatter app
2-format option: Full (overwrite) format, format size adjustment on.
3-do not remove the drive during formatting
4-be patient and wait
5-copy the zip rom to the sd card
6-flash

Download from that web site. Accept the "End User License Agreement" and download "sdformatter ver 4 for your computer not for your phone". Install it and follow the operation manual that you can download too only if you want.
You will need an adapter (for the micro sdhc) to mount it to your computer. And, don't forget: format option: Full (overwrite) format, format size adjustment on. For instance I have 8 giga sdhc and the format time delayed about 3 hours. That is why I said to have patience.
After the format and the respective FLASH, install all your apps one by one from google play store. Do not use titanium back up or similar app.
Needed: Phone bootloader unlocked and rooted.
SD Formatter 4.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC
This software formats all SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards and SDXC memory cards. SD Formatter provides quick and easy access to the full capabilities of your SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.
The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area". Please use appropriate application software or SD-compatible device that provides SD security function to format the "Protected Area" in the memory card.
I have read your aforementioned problem and I am for sure that it is due to a bad SDHC. You need to recover it. If sdformatter can not format (the sdcard) you have to buy a new sdhc.
Follow the FXP installation for the kernel and rom. All will be ok.
In the case that you do not follow the instructions, make a mistake or the third war world start for this recommendations, I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY BRICKED UP DEVICES OR COMPUTERS! DO ALL THAT ON YOUR OWN RISK!

have some question:
Installing CM10.1 Internally on Nook Tablet
Using a disk partition tool (such as MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) create on SD card a Primary FAT32 partition, and set the partition ID type for the partition to 0x0C FAT32 LBA and set its Active flag. Once this is done, the partition should appear as a (read/write accessible) drive under Windows. If you are going to use this card for backing up your NT, keep in mind that each backup will require at least 600MB (for a barebone stock or CM config) and size the partition accordingly. dont' care of any backups...
Obtain and copy to the SD card the following files:
MLO, u-boot.bin, and flashing_boot.img in boot.zip obtained from http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim i don't see any MLO and u-boot.bin are not in the list ????
either one of the two recovery program image files: cwm_6.0.2.8_acclaim_recovery_sdcard.img (ClockworkMod Recovery (aka CWM)), or twrp_2.4.3.0_acclaim_recovery_sdcard.img (TeamWin Recovery Project (aka TWRP)) from http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery , rename it to recovery.img. If you want to try out (or use) both, name your alternate choice altboot.img. which one would u suggest to use?
the file cm_acclaim_10.1.0_29JUN2013_HD.zip from http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/...k-tablet-0218/

Because Windows only sees the boot partition. The boot partition is very small (2-300 MB?), and the 70 MB is the unused space in that partition (or possibly the whole partition. It's unclear from what you say.).
Minitool sees the whole card and allows you to assign more space to any partitions, or create new partitions (that WIndows won't see, but your NT will).
That's really not a rooting issue. Do you have a problem with the actual process? If so, what kind of problem?

1. Download, extract and burn this ready-made CM10 sd image to a 2 GB (?) (or larger - not 100% sure of the size since I use a larger card myself) sd card. Use this card as a bootable CWM card. Even if it's a complete run-able CM10 it also works as a bootable CWM! Very handy!
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/...r-nook-tablet/ t's a big download, but it's a more or less fool proof way of doing it! If I remember correctly there is actually room enough to put CM10 and GApps on the card. At least the one I use.
2. Boot into the recocvery of that card by pressing the "n" right after the power button and then hold the "n" to get to boot menu
3. In boot menu choose "sd recovery" ot something similar. This will take you to CWM
4. When in CWM install zips, wipe cache and Dalvik and you should be fine! it says there are no zip to install

Have you put any zips on the card you have inserted? You have to decide what ROM to install, download it and the approiate gApps for it and put on the sd card.
I'm sorry I linked to post where I didn't make that clear enough. I do say that there is enough room on the card for it and I also suggest a ROM to put there, But I guess a "for dummies" need to be clearer on that...
At the bottom of the quoted post
Edit: I checked, and there IS enough room for my favourite ROM and gApps on the boot section of the card. "My favourite" is the 1231 build on Iamafanof site. I have tried more recent ones, but I always go back to this one. Just my opinion of course! http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/...let-uploading/

When I make this card there is enough room for CM10 and gApps zips on it. There should be for you as well. If not, use another card. You can switch onec in CWM.

asawi thanks a lot , it worked.
and there's a program colled gooim that says that there are updates available....
So I'm just literally fu*ked up. Everyting started yesterday then I decided to clean my phone using SDmaid like I do regularly once a month or so.. After cleaning it I noticed that most of my apps disappeared. Then I just opened settings, few other apps and everything crashed. Then I was pressing all the buttons and lockscreen showed up, but screen was not responding to my touches. I force rebooted it, but after booting everything was laggy and frezed again. Then I entered TWRP and cleared davlik cache and cache. Still nothing changed. I reflashed ROM. Nothing. I deleted everything, formated memory, wiped all the parts. And then connected my opx to pc, to upload rom, kernel, supersu. Then I noticed that the sd card isn't responding. I took it out and connected directly to my pc. Tried formatting it, chkdisk in command prompt, virus scan and so on.. Nothing - all my files left and they are unusable just like the card itself. How do I fix this? Then after wiping I noticed one thing - it says dev/zero process ended wit ERROR=255 and it happens all the time then I try to wipe /data. So I assume the /data is corrupted too? I hope you understood something and will be able to help me. Now excuse me while I'll be crying in the corner :crying::crying::crying:
How I assume is that the SDMaid app somehow managed to break my sd card and /data? Help, I really need my phone tomorrow.

it might be corrupted then. try out deleting and recreating partition table:
go cmd lane(admin rights)
1. diskpart
2. list disk
3. select diskN #where number is your microSD
4. clean
5. create partition primary size=x #X stands for unallocated space
6. select partition1
7. format fs=fat32 quick
8. assign (adds a letter for drive)

still nothing...
EDIT: So I removed the card and reset my phone to the factory settings like you suggested. Also did all the OTA updates and it seems to be working fine. (I hope /data issue fixed too) And I think I just take the micro sd card back to the shop for repair.

Indeed I would you suggest doing that, the first(factory reset) keep it, its pretty useful and handy tool. I also suggest you to not use any "system" clearing tools, android its not like windows ^_^ there is almost nothing to clean
