[Q] Return Skyrocket for regular GS2? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I just realized that CFW will be virtually nonexistent on the skyrocket, and the s2 is seemingly supported very well, and not to mention there is no LTE coverage in my area.
Form factor is also nicer on GS2, and I assume battery life is also longer.
Thoughts?

I really love the hate. Enjoy your 20MB LTE plans when AT&T starts only selling LTE phones, with no way to get unlimited.

GS2 has better battery life, community support, a better screen. I doubt LTE is going to be in many areas for the next few years.

i dont care what anyone says. I really dont understand the hate for the skyrocket. I think everyone who hates it, is jealous somehow. There is nothing wrong with the skyrocket. I have a GS2 and I'm saying this. The skyrocket is a nice phone. You can't go wrong with either of them.

I'm not jealous at all - I feel sorry for those who said OOH SHINY LTE!
It's fatter, it's heavier, if you look over on the AT&T support forums it drops connectivity all the time, and has piss-poor battery life. It also has the same screen quality issues the T989 does.
It's also a developer's nightmare consisting of parts Samsung just threw together from the parts bin. As a result, the few developers the phone has need to do a LOT more work. In terms of active developers the I777 and I727 are probably about the same - but the I727 community is completely on their own (other than the T989), whereas we have the community of one of Samsung's flagship devices to pull from.
I call it the ****rocket because it has NO business carrying the Galaxy S II name - it has NOTHING whatsoever in common with the Galaxy S II. If it were just the Skyrocket and someone didn't try to apply a name it doesn't deserve to it, I'd just ignore it.

i can't comment on the developers aspect since I'm not a dev, so I'll take your word for it - lol
but i'm curious if the skyrocket came out before the OG GS2, would people be saying the same thing? I'm confident that people would hate the GS2 because it doesnt have LTE and all the stuff that the SR comes with.
I'm not bashing anyone, I'm just curious why people hate the SR so much. If you dont have the phone, dont hate on it. It didnt do anything to you (and I dont mean you, Entropy. Its a general 'you')

Owned it, don't hate it one bit. its a hunk of glass / metal LoLz. If anything, I am hating samsung for fking up the sensors / hardware on our phone thus rendering it an official PAIT to recieve a port for ICS. I don't blame Entropy for not wanting to pull a hack job to cook up a kernel for that bs ... his work is *****
As far as the Skyrocket ... it is a junk pile imho. The thing has issues across the board. Do your homework and you will see why it is not such a great device. It is one of Samsung's possibly worst releases yet IMho. Screen issues, chipset issues, etc. you enjoy yours though !

If the Skyrocket had come out before the I777, I would have been disappointed. If the I777 had never been released, I would have simply imported the I9100, or maybe the Note or HSPA+ GNex. Simply put, no matter what else might have been on the market, after my experience with the Infuse, I would not have touched the SR with a ten foot pole.
The Infuse was a nightmare in terms of development and ever seeing updates, and it had about 70% hardware commonality with the original GalaxyS series devices.
The Skyrocket has maybe 5% commonality (similar touchkey driver - that's about it), meaning that everything that was bad about the Infuse:
1) No similar devices to borrow development from
2) Oddball hardware not used/supported on any other device
3) Complete and total lack of update support due to being a wacky one-off interim device
applies even moreso to the ****rocket. On top of that, the ****rocket has LTE - which means it's going to be a battery-hogging fatty. LTE is not going to be mature for at least another year, just like the first 2-3 years of UMTS handsets were also battery-hogging fatties.

I owned the gs2 then a skyrocket and im back with the gs2. Reason why... Screen and LAG. SR is great but performance is bad after going from an S2 to the SR

I live in a LTE area and still got the SGS2 instead. You couldnt pay me to use another phone with the underperforming/jerky poor-mans-dual-core Snapdragon. Exynos destroys every Android used CPU today. No vertical screen lines issues and overall nicer screen when used side hy side, better dev community with direct ports of the OG's roms, and better battery life.
I wouldnt mind having a Skyrocket, but having to choose, its no contest imo
sEnT fRoM mY ExYnOs PoWeReD MoNsTeR

I had the SR for a week or two before exchanging it for the SII. In my case, I was able to get the SR for $149, but had to pay an extra $50 to get the SII. For me, it was worth it. It's important that I live in a non-LTE area (and my rural home likely won't see LTE coverage for years.) That's a double-edged sword in that I didn't get LTE speeds, but also didn't have the massive hit to the battery that LTE seems to incur.
Screen: Everyone picks on the SR screen size... It's only a 1/4" larger than the SII screen, but has the same resolution. However, even though everyone seems to think it makes the screen horrible to look at due to the lower PPI (dpi), keep in mind the actual numbers: SR is ~207ppi and the SII is ~221ppi. Not much difference. For someone with less than perfect vision, the larger screen might actually be easier to see. (Compare the ppi numbers to a typical computer monitor which is somewhere around 80-120ppi.)
Battery: I get several more hours of usage from my SII than I was able to get with my SR, despite the fact that the SR has a higher capacity battery. This is with no LTE service. If I was in a LTE area, I'm guessing the battery for the SR would last half as long as the SII.
Physical size: I found the SR more difficult to manipulate quickly with a single hand due to the larger physical size. This is one of those areas where you just need to pick the thing up and try it. (On the other hand, the SR was easier to type on with two hands.)
Community Support: This references places like XDA - the SII simply is better supported. It might be because the SII has been around longer, or it might be because of the international version of the SII. It could be for any of a dozen reasons, but it doesn't change the fact.
CIQ: I refuse to purchase any phone that has a rootkit pre-installed. AT&T claims it's not active on the SR as of mid-December, but they never said that they won't be activating it. If they took the time and expense of getting Samsung to cram it on the device, then it's reasonable to guess that it'll get activated once they work out the performance issues (and it's a safe bet that CIQ is more important to AT&T than getting ICS out in a timely manner.)
Now I'll ask you a question or two: If you ask a "SR vs SII?" question in the SII forum, what kind of answers did you expect? Why not search "skyrocket" in this forum to see the answers given nearly daily for the same questions?
Good luck in finding your answers
Gary

My thoughts on the 2 phones.
SGS2: Ford Fiesta. Nice all around
Skyrocket: Chevy Aveo. Has Flames.
Sorry I don't post $30,000-$1mil cars.

Ooh, ooh, ooh get the one with flames it has to be faster/ better. LMAO.

Odd, I've no problems with my Skyrocket screen and I regularly get 17+ hours of use out my device daily (when I'm not flashing ROMs) not to mention I still have my unlimited plan in an LTE area. I do wish the Skyrocket had more support but, it'll get there - the OG GSII has been around longer so naturally there will be more support for it, I can understand that.

I noticed this too when using a friends Skyrocket. It's just not as fast or smooth as my i777 SG2, both in use and doing stuff like browsing online etc. I noticed some lag as well, which all of the above some reviews have pointed out. Not sure what's causing the issues/glitches?
I'm really impressed by the i777 SG2, best all around phone right now imo. it's fast, smooth, great battery life, and the size is just right with the screen at 4.3" . It swayed me away from iPhones which I didn't think could happen lol.

i first bought the SR because i loved the larger screen (coming from iphone 3gs) but traded it in within my 30 days for the sgs 2 due to the poor battery life.
i find that the battery is better on the sgs2 and i have no need for lte because i spent 80%+ of my time in wi-fi areas and i don't think hspa+ is slow anyways.
in terms of lagginess, i haven't really noticed any difference moving from the SR to the sgs2 but i'm not so picky about those things.
also, in a non-LTE area the sgs2 is quite a bit cheaper than the SR so this was also a factor in my decision.

Why I won't be getting the e3d on launch day

1.) Very concerned about call quality and battery life. I remember when the OG evo came out, the battery life was pretty bad. It wasn't until I purchased a higher capacity battery on ebay, and rooted the phone that I was happy. I have a feeling the e3d is going to have the same initial problem, even though they upped the battery. If you throw in bad call quality, which has been fairly consistent among the reviews, those are two big strikes against the phone IMO.
2.) I know the 3d feature is just an "added bonus", but in my book it's just a gimmick. I don't see myself using it all that much, and most reviews say using the 3D really kills the battery. Plus I think it takes away from the "sleekness" of the phone. I heard someone say it looks like Johnny #5 from Short Circuit on the back of the phone, and I have to agree. Not visually appealing to me at all. Plus, I'll be constantly worried about scratching them as well, since they seem to protrude out much further than any camera I have seen. The 2D camera quality seems to be the same as my OG evo anyway. I wish they would have just put a higher quality 2D camera on the phone.
3.) I'm not that big a fan of sense. I've been running cyanogen for quite some time now, and forgot how much better it is than sense. I picked up my gf's evo the other day, which is still stock, and it was painful to use compared to CM7.
4.) I think the OG evo is still a damn good phone. Why would I want to use my upgrade and get stuck into another two years if I'm not 100% sure I want this phone? I know sprint has the 30 day return policy, but why go through that hassle initially? I think it's wiser just to wait and see how things play out for the first month. I'm not sure if the bootloader is unencrypted at this point? Sure, HTC said they will unlock it, but when?? 1,3,6 months from now?
I'm still very happy with CM7 on my evo at this point. The development on this phone has been amazing. I have android 2.3.4 with the honeybread theme. It looks slick, just as good as my transformer tab, and battery life is exceptional. I get 16 hours with moderate to heavy usage.
5.) If this was sprint's only powerhouse phone coming out soon, sure it would probably more of a "no-brainer" on getting the e3d...but with the Photon and most likely the SGS2 coming soon, I think I'll wait and compare the three phones before I make any decisions. In the meantime, I'll still be happy running my OG evo w/CM7.
I think the bottom line is I'm not going to jump on board just because this phone is the "new" thing. I'll practice some restraint, keep checking out XDA for the first couple weeks and see how things play out. I have a feeling there won't be a shortage for the e3d like there was for the OG evo.
As many people have said its pretty much your personal preference.
As for me I have already preordered it on wirefly, can not wait for some reason I don't see my phones battery being really all that bad as reviewers say.
I will sign another two year contract because that plan I am on is cheap! and love sprint service!

I'm just not sold on this phone yet, and I'll even go out on a limb and say it probably won't be nearly as successful as the OG evo. Just my opinion though!!

Actually this is a forum for developing stuff, hence the name xda-developers.
If that's the case, then why have an Evo 3D GENERAL section, and an EVO 3D Android Development section? If it's all about development, why not just have the EVO 3D Android Development, and that's it? I've seen maybe 1-2 threads in the GENERAL section that actually deal with "development".

Of course it wont be as successful as OG EVO. It's going to be a while, before sprint has another phone like that! When they finally drop a LTE phone, with the same top of the line range in phones they currently are putting out. That 1st one to hit will be there best shot, whatever the phones may be at that point. Untill then we are getting HTC, Samsung, and not Moto all trying to draw from the ground breaking EVO.
Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one!!!

Epic Touch 4G (A.K.A: Galaxy S II) set for Sept. 9th release

So, with the chance of getting flamed or... flaming myself depending on the reaction to this. SprintFeed apparently got word that the Galaxy S II will be hitting Sprint first, on September 9th, ahead of all other carriers.
http://www.sprintfeed.com/2011/08/rumor-samsung-epic-touch-4g-releasing-september-9th/
There is the link.
Just thought any defectors would like the heads up. I personally am sticking with my 3Devo.
From the screenshots it looks to be the same phone. No concrete answer on if it's packing a Snapdragon which had been rumored or if it's sticking with Exynos. *Shrug* guess we shall find out.
Awesome, can't wait. Jk Samsung sucks.

Damn Sprint is on a roll. Hopefully they get the Nexus Prime when it comes out. That's the only phone I'm interested in. The GS2 should of came out earlier. Samsung waited to long in my opinion, But nevertheless Sprint has a good line up this year.

Yeah, the only reason I can see why they waited was because of the pressure from Apple and it's "your phone looks like mah phone!" 6-year old meltdown of a lawsuit that has been going on. I dunno.

I was going to go the SGS2 route but it's just too little too late. The E3D in modded form can outpace a stock SGS2 easily...and the nPrime is right around the corner.
I used to love HTC and I've really grown to like the E3D General forum, y'all is cool peoples (most of the time)...but aside from the unlock fiasco I can't stand the ****ty radio and the strange behavior when powering on/off really makes me feel like one day it won't turn back on again....especially when I've seen it happen right in front of me.
...but I sure as hell will not post a thread here about it. Nothin' personal OP, just sayin'...

Well, I know a lot of people aren't happy with the Evo 3D, I decided to drop this nugget and see how it went. Like I said, I'm happy with my evo. My Radios don't suck too bad, only thing I have issue with is a Black SOD every 9hrs when using a custom kernel... which I can workaround with a stock kernel.
You're post is a little confusing. so... you're waiting for the nPrime?. that's how it sounded. That's looking to be an October release, it's being made by Samsung too. Which I find odd, I would think Motorola would be involved. I know it was just recently announced that Google was going to buy them, but...I assumed it was in the making to be some big lead up. oh well, probably next year.
I'd think I'd like it more if it didn't look like the iPhone had a retarded son.

Aside from feeling cheap and too light--which most people wouldn't see as a down side--it was actually a fantastic phone. Great battery life, phenomenal camera and an unmatched Android experience. It did have the traditionally weak Samsung radio, but, it seems that you can't escape that anymore.
...and so far as Motorola is concerned Google has assured it's partners that the bidding process for the Nexus line would in fact remain the same. Google is saying all but "listen, we bought MMi for the patents. The Set-top-box and mobile manufacturing is just a plus, that we don't intend to use." Of course time will tell how true that is. For the time being I believe them.
However a Motorola built Nexus would probably be fantastic as long as they ditch that ****ty Pentile screen technology. I bet they would have class leading radios and battery life too.

Yea MOTO isn't far from being a great phone manufacturer..they do have pretty good build quality and their radios are bar none..they have been in that game for a while..ditch all MOTO blur or map and the pentile..add some Google magic and we could have a winner in a few months.

Agreed. Their designs are a bit stodgy looking, but their hardware (aside from those horrible screens and penchant for keyboards) is rock solid. They nearly invented cellular mobile phone technology. They have been doing mobile communications for as long as there has been a commercial mobile communications market. Their radios are fantastic. Build quality is always awesome. How many OG Droids do you still see around? Tons...and I have seen a lot that are beaten to death physically but still kicking ass, 2nd hand, 3rd hand...that says quite a bit.
Without knowing anything about the contents of their patent portfolio I am confident that it contains thousands of very relevant patents. I can't wait to see Google's next move.
I came from the Epic 4G to the Evo 3D. The main thing about Samsung was there slowwwwww release of updates. The Epic 4G rolled out with Eclair, took a while to get Froyo and is still awaiting Gingerbread. This really seem slow down ROM and kernel development. HTC seems pretty spot on with their OS updates.
I am waiting to see if Samsung support for their phones has improved. If it has, maybe I would consider going back. Until then, my Evo 3D is the shizzle.

[Q] Should I get the SGSII

I currently have a DHD (Inspire) on AT&T and I was wondering should I get the Galaxy S II or should I wait for something better?

I highly recommend the Galaxy S II. If you wait for something better, then you will always be waiting because newer, bigger phones will always be coming out. Right now, at this very moment, the GS2 is the BEST phone to get, and I believe it will remain on top for AT LEAST the next year.
In short as I',m sure at least 97% of the users here will tell you... I'm gonna say... Yes. You should. However if you don't mind waiting then keep waiting until the next great wonder phone drops.
"...something better", define your term.
HW spec., I'm sure there are phones that has higher freq., higher lcd resolution, .... that might not be suitable for "better", especially development supports.
Skyrocket is one example and Skyrocket HD is on the list to be released.
The Note will be out shortly, I'd guess less than a month.

AT&T Note variant is crippled... Crapdragon means no pulling any goodness from the GT-N7000 community.
It's not like the Captivate being able to pull from I9000 and us being able to pull from I9100. Yes, our development community is fairly small - but it doesn't need to be large because nearly everything happening in the massive I9100 community is applicable to our devices too.
The AT&T Note won't have that.
Yes - only if you are in non-LTE market/area
No - if you are in 4g LTE market or near-future LTE market
Starting Feb'12 at&t is going to introduce a lot of 4g LTE phones including skyrocket HD.
Even in an LTE market, I would not recommend any of the LTE devices. LTE is not yet mature, just like 3G wasn't mature when the first iPhone was released. (One of the few things Apple has done that I fully support is not jumping on the OMG NEW RADIO TECH!!!! bandwagon when it was CLEAR that the new radio tech was bad for battery life and phone size.)

WHy do people say this? I am in a LTE area and had a Skyrocket before jumping ship, data speeds were faster but its not like HSPA+ is Edge or anything.
Definitely. It's such an amazing phone, and the people on this forum are really helpful.
I don't think anyone here will say no haha.
I say yes you should get it. I Recently came from the Inspire(DHD).It took me awhile to get use to how light Samsung phones feel compare to HTC. Like mention believe if you live in a Lte area go ahead and get the Skyrocket or wait for the Skyrocket HD. I would recommend going to a local At&t or retail store and try the phone out to see if its to your liking. You don't want to pay for a phone your not going to like.

There are A TON of threads on this. Search our parent forum (where you can see all of the subforums). Go to search this forum, advanced search, type in skyrocket, and search titles only. I saw at least 5 . . . on the first page of results lol.

And also remember that Samsungs touchwiz doesn't seem as polish as HTC sense to some people(I did see something about sense on the gs2 but not sure if it's real or finished).Touchwiz is more based on speed and performance then it is show. The cool thing about the Samsung galaxy s2 is that thanks to amazing developers like Entropy we are able to run the international ones roms with hellraiser.if I really like HTC build n UI then go with the vivid.if you want yo try Android in a new amazing way get the gs2.like I said before try them both out at the store cause when it comes down to it it's your phone and it has to fit you.

This video has been around in the other Note forum for a while.
Frankly, it's a tease. There's something about Smasung's promises that are worth just about nothing.
For all we know, they may discontinue this product before we see anything.
I have had the Note for ages, and be the time they release anything it will be obsolete.
Heck, in Smasung's mindset, things are obsolete even BEFORE they're released

So you come from an iPhone to the Note and you automatically know everything about Samsung devices? Hmmm.
In my experience with the Captivate and Infuse, Samsung may be slow to release stuff, but they eventually get around to it. The Captivate started on 2.1, and they eventually got it to 2.2 and 2.3. The Infuse started with 2.2 and had 2.3 for a while, but they pulled it due to some issues; it will be back eventually. And that's just official updates. Samsung phones have great developer support her, my Captivate has ICS running on it, and the Infuse does now too. Premium Suite will come out when they release the official Samsung ICS for the International Note. And how can you say they are making the Note obsolete before it came out? It's still arguably the best device out there right now. And the ATT Note has been out for what, 2 months, yet we already have a stable ICS leak? Ok. I would say that's pretty damn good due to the fact that most phones don't have ICS yet, and the Note was in development before ICS was officially released anyways....therefore of course it's going to have GB when it was released.
I love how previous iPhone users think that they have the best support...One phone a year...one 'major' software upgrade a year. And no fragmentation? Hah. Bold faced lie. If there was truly no fragmentation, all iPhones, all the way back to the original, would be able to run the latest iOS in some shape or form...yet that's not the case.
When I had the iPhone 3g, it was severely crippled by iOS 4. My old Captivate now has ICS on it, and is over two years old now. Hmmm. Weird.
Not trying to bicker and fight, just pointing out that Samsung does support their devices fairly well.
I didn't mention an iPhone. Did you perhaps search my previous posts form two months ago?
And I don't think I mentioned anything about Apple support or whatever.
Samsung is a shifting entity. They are now supposedly pulling the Galaxy tab 10" and the 10" note to make changes. Thing is, this seems somewhat disorganized. It may be a good move, or not. It isn't a stable timetable.
So when they say such and such is going to happen, I'm not going to hold my breath.
Yeah, I suppose I did search it to see where you were coming from, as in my experience I have been really satisfied with Samsung products, so I get curious as to why people have complaints against Samsung. Sorry. Haha. And my reference to Apple's support came from you being on an iPhone previously, therefore that is what you're familiar with, so I compared it to my experience with both Samsung and Apple products.
Sorry if I came off a bit harsh, going on 4 hours of sleep in the last two and a half days, it's wearing on me.
Np problem, I do that also (it's fun to sneak around and check on people )
I'm just pissed that i'm stuck with the S -memo. I bought the Note for the pen really, as it's an ideal note-taker (or should I say, it COULD be ideal )
And I was waiting for the 10" and now it's all up in the Air. I'm pissed.
So I rant on, to no avail i'm afraid
Cmon now...Samsung isnt THAT bad. Honestly, if you always have to have the lastest software, the Nexus line is the best way to go. Its not like HTC, Motorola, LG updates all of their devices quickly. No brand is perfect. I would much rather have to wait a little while and get a completed update than a fast update thats buggy and half assed. And besides, most people love to flash ROMS and tons of customizations. Thats what makes us Android users and not iOS. Last week I used the iphone again and thought to myself..."this $#&@ is Boring! Unlock screen, swipe left, swipe right....all I see is bunched up icons on that never changing 3.5" screen...thats it?!?
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I was one of the many who came from an iPhone. Actually, I have had every iPhone since it's inception. From time to time, I would jump and try another phone and would always go back to the iPhone. This is the first time that I switch out the iPhone and can still say It was a great choice. One of the many things that sold me was samsung's premium suite coming out. I have changed so many things on my note that I could never do on the iPhone. I guess it is just personal preference and what it is your looking for in a phone. I wanted a productivity monster that would do everything I needed or wanted and the notes does just that
Bring on premium, I am waiting impatiently
Coming from someone who had a phone made by Dell last, I would say that Samsung is LIGHTNING fast with updates, lol...

It's believed to be in the new leak being released soon. I'm sure it will get incorporated in all the ICS ROM's very quickly.

Your rant aside, that's actually a good point on iOS. Never thought about it that way. They are always quick to attack fragmentation as a benefit to being on iOS (which they feel they are immune too). I believe this picture sums it up

Been using the leaked "S Note" app on my AT&T Note and am learning to like it alot. BUT it definitely (at least for me) takes some learning and practice.
It has basically replaced the "S Memo" app.
Nice feature in "Settings" is the ability to use pen only...meaning your palm won't end up leaving marks on your note.

[Q] 4G LTE

Can my SGH I777 get 4G LTE speeds?
i bet if you did a basic search you would find that the i777 is NOT an LTE device, since, you know, it doesnt have the HARDWARE to support LTE.....
SMH
Somewhere I was aware it was not even a full 4G phone, but at the moment i'm just a bit pissed off because of that. I should have waited for the skyrocket. Sorry for the extra thread.

dont let your feelings of another device get in the way of actual facts.

dont put down the device and spout off inaccuracies of how much bandwidth a site will put out.....try them for yourself and see....and try to have an OPEN MIND when you test it out...

Who is to say I even have an i777 or don't have an i747 LTE..... By the way I ******* Hate Apple iSad
Yep. No way in hell any website ever puts out more than 2 mbps, you're right, Internet tough guy.

This site and you guys are the bomb. I been hanging around here for some time and have tried about every rom there is, but you can't make the phone better than it is capable of being. Make me feel better and give me just a couple reasons why the SG2 is better than the skyrocket.

I am also looking to get an i777 or i727. For me the deciding factor is battery life. For those of you that have owned both, can you compare the battery life of these two phones on stock, using the same custom ROMs, etc? I did do searches for comparisons, but not many people are clear that they have owned both phones and used them under similar conditions.
Thanks in advance.

No man he's totally right which is why I can easily pull 6mbps down from Speakeasy and their WEBSITE speed test hehe.
If you can't pull more then 2mbps on your LTE network uhh you either a) live in a crappy city where everyone and their mother is on the network or b) ATT doesn't have LTE where you live.
Has nothing to do with the phone or any website. If I'm on H+ and not on my home wifi I can only get my max speeds at like 11pm when no one else is on their phone.

LTE drains more battery than H+ so ur best bet is i777 if u want battery life.

Thanks for the info, but I already know that rooting and debloating helps with battery life. Who I want to hear from are people that have had both the i777 and the i727, and how the battery life compares under similar conditions, including while stock and while using custom ROMs.
Most people who have posted about battery life on one or the other phone were not clear that they owned both at one time or another.
Another factor is that I live near, but not actually in an LTE area. Does the skyrocket battery last longer when not in LTE? I expect that the majority of my time will be in a non LTE area.
Again, I already know all the pros and cons between the i777 and i727 EXCEPT how they compare battery wise (in actual usage, not on paper). That will be the deciding factor for me.
Thanks again for reading.
I have an i777 and my wife has a skyrocket...I use mine probably twice as much playing games and browsing the web and always seem to have better battery life by 20 percent or better...also if you are going to spend most of your time in an non lte area I would recommend the i777... More roms, better battery..and to be honest..in non lte area a better speed...don't know why but it is....

Since I was farting around I thought I'd check kernel.org.

Seems like they provide a bit more than 2 Mb/sec.
