I have the View and will never use the cell network. When checking battery status it shows Cell Standby using 67% battery. I've searched for this, but many of the sol'ns could brick the device as they suggest renaming services. Anyone find a sol'n to disabling the cell Standby?

I do the same. Battery life went through the roof after I started using airplane mode.
I tried this but Cell Standby was still showing @ 67%. Is it just a matter of turning airplane mode on and then starting WiFi again.

Yes. Turn airplane mode on, and then turn WiFi on/off as you need it. It will take a little while (possibly a few days depending on how often you charge) for Cell Standby to completely disappear from battery use since the system calculates that based on usage since a full charge. Cell Standby doesn't even show up on mine at all since airplane mode completely turns off the cellular radios.
Just turning off mobile data isn't enough for the View. Even with mobile data off, you can still see signal bars in the notification bar/navigation bar. It's designed to be able to receive text messages as well, so short of tinkering with some of the system files or installing a custom rom, airplane mode is the easiest way of making sure there are no cellular radios active at all.
If you're rooted, flash this from recovery:

anycut to turn off radio.
Download anycut from the market. Run it and choose "new shortcut" then "activity". Scroll way down and choose "testing". This is a debugging app.
You now have a shortcut to "testing" on your home screen. Launch it and press the "turn off radio" button.
you have to turn off the radio after every reboot since rebooting turns the radio on again... but once you have the shortcut.. its easy.

I finished the GB to HC S-Off and rooted etc. Will this kill the 3G/4G radios completely so we don't have to run airplane mode? I will be only using WiFi period for my Evo View.

Yes, more info please!
This disables cellular radios without needing airplane mode?
is it reversable?
I would guess it is, likely either a new flashable file or restore your backup. Oh well this is perfect for my needs. Thanks Globaltron.
The method regarding Anycut is PERFECT! After a few hours, I can already see the improvement in battery life. Thanks again!

What with megaupload and it's brethren blasted off the internet, this link is dead...as are so many other valuable assets to the modding community... can it get re-uploaded somewhere?
And, peripherally, isn't there a better place for hacks like this than file locker sites? recipes for gadget tweaking seem un-assailably non-infringing enough, and it seems like stashing such items in github or dropbox would be a better means of sharing and collaborating...

Incidentally, if I'm not subscribed to a data plan, is there ever *ANY* reason to not have the radio turned off?
Like, for instance, does being able to see cell towers improve GPS fix time, or do you need data service to get the tower locations?

If you are using the OTA, I found that the cell modem had to be on to see the updates.
Also, the cell towers will provide location information to Google Maps & Etc. I turn it on for this purpose only, otherwise I'm on WiFi.

I travel quite a bit and use airplane mode, though I noticed when I reboot my tbolt sometimes when I have it in airplane mode it boots out of it. I am requesting a flashable zip or apk to totally wipe out cdma and lte functionality. Then I will nandroid backup when I get back. Wifi is the only connection I am looking for. I know about the apps that disable, but I am looking for something full proof. Is this possible?

I was just testing you. Thanks. I swear I'm not usually this retarded. Have a thanks for not being an asshole with your response.
Much appreciated.
I'm deploying to Afghanistan and will have my phone with me but am wondering if I can use it on wifi only. Basically airplane mode but wifi on. Not that there should be any Verizon signal there but figure it's safer to leave it like this. Are there any options? Often wondered this too for airplane flights where they offer wifi access but you don't want the cell radio on... Thanks in advance.
If you deactivate the phone Wifi will still work. There will be no connectivity to Verizon.
Enable airplane mode. Then turn on wifi.

grab the stock radio and reflash it. If that doesn't work then your phone not activating might be an unrelated problem. Check the developer forum and flash back to stock.

Every droid i have i've turned into a mini media server when it was time to upgrade to a new droid. And all of them run on wifi only. To get the full benefits, you'll still need a google account. I'd also flash a 3rd party ROM. If you're not even going to be on Verizon, no reason to use their ROM with all the limitations (e.g. no free tethering, though that might not be important to you). I'd use CM7 or MIUI. If you're tied to touchwiz, there's a lot of good options too.
Is anyone else having this issue? Every time I wake the phone from sleep I see the wifi with no bars, then a second later it is full again. I found a thread where One X users were reporting the same issue. I have it set to always on and even have checked the increase wifi performance check box as well.
Also, sometimes using the bookmark widget the phone won't load a webpage despite showing a strong wifi connection, I have to turn wifi on and off to correct this
Must be an ICS thing because my Touchpad does the same thing.
On a side note, my iPhone does the same thing too.
in your wifi settings hit menu and click advanced. there is a setting to set the wifi not to turn off during sleep.

I said in my original post I had that set already to always... the mneu says "Keep wifi on during sleep" I have it set to always
Seems to be a known issue if the phone goes to sleep for an extended period of time wifi will disconnect regardless of the wifi setings. We will have to wait for htc or rom dev's to fix the issue.
If you get the Power Saver Settings app (free) from the market, you can access hidden power options in ICS. Two of which are "Manage my connection when screen is off" (which may or may not apply only to network data) and "Turn off Wi-Fi if not connected." Perhaps try those settings.
My WIFI was shutting off and it is sometimes a bit bumpy reactivating it every time I wake it.
So I tried setting that setting to Keep WIFI on always while asleep.
WIFI is MUCH more stable now when waking the phone.
However, it seems to be using up battery much more quickly too.

i'm having the same wifi issue with my evo lte. I even changed these settings you mentioned and the same thing has been happening for a couple days. guess we'll have to wait on htc or devs for a fix.

i have the same problem which prevents me from getting email and some other notifications on time. hope htc can fix this.

i was going to create a new thread... but found a 9 month old thread I previously started... I'm having the same wifi issues still.... since the recent update it has gotten worse. Often times at home I'llw ake the phone from sleep only to see the wifi is not connected.... so I am missing notifications/emails while it is sleeping.
I don't notice this problem occurring at work, so I'm guessing it may just be an issue this phone has with my router (Linksys WRT54GL)... but I'm not even sure what router settings I should change.

Have a unlocked Rezound that I'd like to use as a media device.
Why? Because the device continues to work well. I have a spare battery and chargers, holster and case. It can do wireless (802.11). Plus memory space as well as SD card capabilities.
I think if it was possible to disable the cell modem within the phone, battery life would be increased. Would love to find a ROM that minimizes the bloatware, allows you to disable the cell portion of the phone but maintain the device's other functionality.

I haven't seen a rom that lets you kill the cell radio all together and still keep wifi on. You can kill mobile data or put it in airplane mode when you don't need wifi either.

@rjh20136 I'm partial to Sense ROMs and recommend Ineffable Deus for Sense 3.6, EclipticRez v9 (MHL fix included) for Sense 4. I use EclipticRez with either Sense 4 Car Mode display or XBMC app as a media device. I also use Poweramp and Google Music with ViPER4Android sound mod for car audio. Snuzzo's Funky kernel 3.7 version can underclock to 96 MHz to save battery more, try it out.

As Pmania said, toggle Airplane Mode first and then toggle WiFi back on by itself. I do this myself.
You can also access the Phone Info hidden settings on some ROMs by punching in "*#*#4636#*#*" on the stock dialer.
This panel controls global radio settings and can toggle the cell radio on or off independent of Airplane Mode. Do be careful not to select anything you're unsure of like changing regional frequencies.

To be fair, the grammar and lack of uppercase letters in the first post did not make it 100% clear you meant a specific app title rather than a generic toggle just for the LTE band. Mjones and likely others misunderstand at a glance.
I'm guessing the app is "LTE OnOFF - HTC Thunderbolt" by Cunning Logic. This app accesses that same hidden Phone Info panel accessed by the code I previously mentioned. Would recommend for the OP if the Airplane Mode trick is not preferable and the dialer code doesn't work on their particular ROM.
Other useful apps like Battery Monitor Widget can access the hidden settings too (BMW does it under the main menu > Tests button > Phone Information)

New update dropping today!
Details:
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1086930
Sweet, they finally pushed WiFi calling to the S7.
That explains why the security update took longer than usual, AT&T has been knocking them out the first week or so of every month till now.
Thanks, downloading now.
Installed on the regular S7.
So I updated (took about 1 hour to download and update). Immediately I noticed 3 things:
1) A notification with a link to a Display Settings dialog with the option to change DPI between Large and Small. "Settings-> Device->Display->Display scaling" will get you there later. This dialog box is not new; previously you could only reach it by adding .DisplayScalingActivity to Nova Launcher. What used to be called "Standard" is now called "Larger". What used to be called "Condensed" is now called "Smaller".
2) Wi-Fi calling was added to my quick notification settings. It is turned off by default. Toggling it on brought me to a setup wizard asking me to update my physical address for emergency 9-1-1 service. "Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi Calling" will get you there later. A very small "+" appears within the standard Wi-Fi status bar icon when Wi-Fi calling is ready. Both my Wi-Fi and cellular signals are strong yet the icon comes and goes. I initiated a Wi-Fi call to voicemail and it asked for my password, which does not happen for cellular calls.
3) Android security patch level: July 1, 2016
Scaling is standard in U firmware and also via a display scaling app in the play store. Just an FYI

Perhaps, but this update added it to the stock AT&T firmware...finally,
Flashed stock then updated to this. Even wiped first. Advanced messaging is useless unless someone else has it. Connected to wifi since setup and it hasn't once shown the icon wifi calling is available.

I'm highly considering going without root. I do think battery was slightly better stock as well.. also I really miss Samsung pay.. and there isn't much to do with Xposed.. I got the notification bar to display network speed and AdBlock..oh and call record is nice but not necessary... other than that, not much to do with root on this device unless someone can fill me in..i can install trebuchet and Google keyboard without root.. also I miss being able to sign into my chase app with fingerprint..

It shows the wifi calling symbol on top, but when i try to make a call a notice pops up telling me I have to turn airplane mode back off to make a call. It seems that it should make a wifi call just fine with only wifi active? Has anyone else tried this with success?
