Ok, so I have had my T-mobile Amaze 4g for a month now. I'm ready to root it and get a custom ROM on it. The problem is, I'm not sure which one to try. I am looking for recommendations.
Xboarder is an amazing dev and has produced some quality work. Keep up the good work, its appreciated.

I myself use Beastmod, it's fast and very stable. I love it.
it really all comes down to what you prefer
i liked the stock rom but the battery was horrible so i used quick sense
which made it still feel like stock without the bloat
if you don't like sense, use beastmod
How does BeastMod compare to RevolutionHD? All three are serious contenders.
I have a love/hate relationship with Sense. I currently run ADW Launcher EX because if the flexability in home screen icon row and column configurations. I also like the ability to kill the dock, so I run it on my rooted Kindle Fire running cm7.

I ended up going with BeastMod. So far it seems stable and buttery smooth. Hoping my battery life improves.

It really is based on personal preference. I like QuickSense. They just updated it to V.3.0 with some nice Blue Glass themes.
i have much better battery life with quiksense
i am still on telus stock rom, but unlocked & rooted
is there any custom roms which contain htc quick launch widget?
Running latest BeastMOD this week. Will switch to new quicksense for the following week and post results.

At my count xboarder56 has 3 if not 4 ROMS for the HTC Amaze.
This is quite impressive for such a young guy. I have 3 questions:
1. What rom is xboarder56 focusing most of his effort on?
2. How do his differ? This is not clear on the forums.
3. Are there any other good non xboarder56 ROMS?

1. I think the main focus is ICS at the moment
2. Some are sense bases some are AOSP based or more minimal than sense roms. Much smaller roms 140MB for Beastmod >300 MB for the sense roms
3. I have only ran X's ROMS
For the OP of this thread I would like to add:
Amaze is my first Android phone I have had as my primary phone. I came over from iOS.
I thought I liked Sense, but really I did not really know what I was talking about.
Sense seems to try to make some things easier. Example: When you open the app drawer you can sort, All Apps/Most used Apps/All user downloaded apps. That is all well and good but I don't need that. There are several other similar things Sense does like that. Then there are the widgets that Sense has. Some are awesome. I love the flipclock. I ran X's Sense roms so I could have that clock mostly. I did not have a need for any other widgets that Sense offers really. It is pretty though.
So now, I run BeastMod with Faux's kernal. I use the ADW launcher and Beautful Widgets (gets me a sense looking flip clock). My battery life is stupid long. I am sitting at 40% battery. 4G has been on and I have used it when I needed for what I needed. Phone Calls, updated some apps, facebook. texting some. It has not seen a charger since yesterday morning. I like the AOSP Android. You can build from there to get what you like.

What in the world makes you assume this is sense 3.5? I can easily re-create that setup using any custom launcher... That huge gap honestly doesn't make sense in the dock, so I'm kind of incredulous at this picture.

Wasnt that app button in that ice cream sandwich photo leak? I got a bad feeling about the new sense.
Free Dirk!!!
This looks just like a modified dock bar
This pulled from the Desire S that was leaked in China i believe. Its for HDPI devices with 4 inch screens. Basically what HTC said they werent gonna do. The first leak on the Desire S was 2.3.5 GB with Sense 3.0. Now theyve got 2.3.4 GB with Sense 3.5. Id go ahead and say yeah its real. And not to mention really ugly.
yea its real personally the dock looks nice but is really useless since thier seems to be a lot of wasted space in between the app launcher and phone icon
it could change through time. but that might not even the main thing about sense 3.5. who knows
Wow, no, It's ugly. And that's from a sense lover.

HTC Sense 3.5 so ugly
Honestly this looks like more of a theme than anything, but if it is 3.5, I like how they are moving away from gloss, that was one of the things that pissed me off about sense. Not like I'll use 3.5 Anyways, AOSP is the woman for me.
Considering this is coming from the Bliss, a mid-range phone aimed at women. I think its safe to say this won't be topping Sense 3.0 anytime soon. I think this is more a "trimmed" version of sense for lesser devices. I have no worries of this officially making its way to the 3D.
Of course. I wouldn't mind seeing some dev cook up a rom of this when it leaks. Lol
check this out http://www.phonedog.com/2011/08/01/...igor-and-more-appear-on-new-verizon-map-list/ A new phone called the HTC Vigor to hit verizon and will have 3.5 sense and 720x1280 resolution. Here are the specs to prove it http://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-Vigor_id5799. Sense 3.5 from the picture on the link looks the same as 3.0

ok i have had my phone since the first week it came out and its completly stock i was wondering why would i root it what do i get besides free tethering? i had a htc evo and when i rooted it nothing changed so i was wondering whats the purpose. just to say its rooted? anyway i was thinking i should go ahead and do it. lol whats the best up to date way to do it?
which hboot do you get?
http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2010/05/07/5-reasons-root-android/
idk it was a long time ago. but i think ima go ahead and root it. whats the newest way out right now?
To choose my own prl, to control my roaming, to remove ciq and other logging, overclock and undervolt.
The best reasons to root haven't happened yet. (CM7, CM9, ICS). However, it is worth rooting just for ad blocking and tethering.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I like the idea of taking total control of my device. Rooting allows me to utilize everything possible that my phone is capable of. For some reason when these devices are taken out of the box they are limited for one reason or another by htc or sprint. Rooting alleviates that by allowing you to download and flash custom roms and kernels made by incredible developers that do it all for free. Their hard work is appreciated by all in the xda community. They aren't just themeing these phones but they are tweaking them to improve performance, battery life, and overall usability. So I recommend rooting for sure and take advantage of all this xda forum has to offer and flash a custom rom. I recommend trying more than just one. And if you find one that fits your needs, you can always donate to the dev to show your appreciation.
So you can become obsessed with flashing ROMs every day & kernel combination left & right. Tweaking & improving & crashing it & bootloops & learning in the process.
+ all the cool kids are doing it.
Yea there are so many things you can do to personalize your phone. Right now i am overclocked and running a dual core script and the phone blazes. Rooting is a must, it is the joy of android. Unlike the iturd your phone will look different and how you want it instead of looking like everyone elses
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Rooting doesn't change anything in the device. It just gives you, the user, "root" access, which is what Linux calls administrative access.
Its about the possibilities you have with that access. Personally I root so that I can find a ROM that gives me better battery life than stock.

All the devices I have rooted (hero, Evo 4G, Evo Shift 4G, and soon to be 3D, once TeamEvil releases their S-Off solution), I have always overclocked the phone. It just makes the phone run that much smoother.
Also, once stable ICS roms come out, I have a feeling the 3D is going to be a beast, with the OS natively supporting multiple cores. Plus, with a little overclocking....will be the cherry on top

I see ICS videos on 3d and threads. I think ICS might be fun. Htc evo4g lost. Replacement from insurance was 3d.
Question for Sprintuser - team note? You have a Note on Sprint or Tmobile?? Hmm tmobile is gsm so you probably have it on tmobile gsm unlocked? So want one.
Root != good
I don't know why to root my EVO, maybe I'm wrong but my last Android phone I rooted and haven't noticed any improvement. Accept for some apps become avaliable. I see no reason to root EVO since it doesn't need to be overclocked.

Hey guys just switched from a skyrocket. loving the new phone. just wondering which rom+kernal combination is the best for performance. battery life isnt a concern for me as i have an external battery charger with 2 batteries always charged. also curious if leaving the cpu clocked at 1.6 in performance governer bad for the processor.
all the roms, at this point, perform pretty well. Try one and see if you like it.
I have not even rooted my SGS2 but reading through, I've seen many posts saying UnNamed ROM and Entrophy512 DD kernel are great for performance and battery life. It retains the TouchWiz GUI though.
I've tried many different ROMs that are available right now and I have not noticed any significant performance difference (not OC'd). Maybe my idea of 'good performance' is different from others.
miui with siyah
Please do not post 'best ROM' threads as they quickly get closed and just end up cluttering the forum. There is no best ROM, only the one that works best for you. Do your homework, read up on any ROM you're interested in and then try it and see if you like it.
If you like touchwiz and the stock look UnNamed is great. If you like the look of ICS then ICScreweD is a great ROM. If you want to have an AOSP experience try CyanogenMod 7. MIUI is a whole other unique experience as well. It really depends on what you want.

Though the Touchwiz 4 launcher is closer to ICS than Cyanogenmod is.
Try them all, its pretty easy
use stock for at least one week and then try unnamed first and go around all the custom roms if you want, finally you will end up with unnamed.
important note: backup backup backup if possible copy them to PC after every backup and label them for future ref.

Pretty much, but I noticed Siyah Kernel performs better than the DD kernel. It just isn't stable for me, my phone will not wake up and I have to hold the power button to reboot. Happens once every 2 days.
I personally don't care for UnNamed but I think it's got the most theme support. I've gravitated to mainly going back and forth between CM7 and SHOstock 1.7 with most of the time spent using SHOstock.
I think you'll find you won't be able to detect much difference between the two main kernels we've all been running, Siyah and Entropy; they are both well supported by excellent developers.
But like a few others have mentioned, you need to try them for yourself and pick what makes the most sense for your daily use. Enjoy the SGS2 salad bar!
I'm a new sgs2 owner and have tried basically every rom on the first couple pages of this forum. UnNamed, ICScrewD, ICS'd Out, SHOstock, etc.
My favorite was a toss-up between ICScrewD and UnNamed. I ended up going back to stock however simply due to some wifi issues I had will just about every rom except stock.
Just do as suggested....root it, CWM it, and flash 'til you can't flash no more.
I've been getting great performance and battery life running an older MIUI rom. Haven't updated in a while, it's about 3 weeks old. By far MIUI has the best skins, so if you're after looks, MIUI is where it's at.
Every rom is different, every kernel is different and every phone is different. What works for A, B and C may not work well for X, Y and Z. You have to try them for yourself and see which combo WORKS BEST FOR YOU because nobody can tell you that but yourself.

In normal miui roms there is an icon and a bar at the top (above the status bar) with the battery level... u might have to turn it on in settings

I found it under "Cyanogenmod Settings," but it doesn't do anything. The options under "status bar tweaks" doesn't work, when you toggle them.
Yea I can't figure the battery out either. Get a widget I guess. Also no KB lights but that been mentioned. The themes app does not seem to work.
Now what's on the rom via the stock theme has a few changeable things through the themes app.
EDIT Well actually the whole app does not work I thought the stock stuff change but it does not.
Other than that very fast, seems stable, gps locks are flakey (sometimes it locks instantly, other times it picks me up some where in new york when I live in texas) but loving it so far. Finally more roms to play with, thanks again.

Okay. Here's the deal. Haven't found a thread on here exactly like this, either because I'm not phrasing the question properly, the answer is obvious and I'm just stupid, or no one really gives a crap.
I don't really have a fancy setup; you could call me a bit of an ex-audiophile. I love my music to really be vibrant; clear yet powerful. Say what you will about it, I get that from the Beats Audio feature on Sense roms with this phone. It's the primary reason I didn't go with the Galaxy S3 when I had the chance to switch for free; it's just that good to me. Problem is, Sense. I hate Sense with a passion. There's this slightly lag with typing I can't get over, and when I compare it to AOSP 4.2.x ROMs I'm left wondering "why?" about a lot of things that are just better, easier, smoother and cleaner on the stock Android OS that HTC just seemed to screw up, the notification bar/pulldown being the primary one. Seeing HTC stick to this same old story kind of appeal to that just ruined the experience for me, and the launcher is terrible. Yes, I know, Nova Launcher/etc, but it's just not the same. Some of the GAPPS just lose their appeal to.
But, I digress. On to the meat of the issue. I've tried AC!D, I've tried AwesomeBEATS, I've tried the ClearAudio, you name it, I've tried it. There's an Xperiance AOSP ROM out there that's based on CM10, and it seems like everything I'm looking for, except the goddamn audio features don't work. At all. And when I listen to music it skips. So here's my question. Has ANYONE been able to reproduce the exact audio quality and frankly sheer volume and power that this phone is capable of with ANYTHING while using a 4.2.x AOSP based ROM? Hell, I'm even willing to go back to 4.1.x, though I'd rather not. I'm in love with the new stock toggles/icons in the notification bar. So yeah...help please?
tl;dr version: Beats on Sense is awesome, AOSP ROMs lack the music quality I'm looking for. How2fix?
This rom has the best audio that I've heard on AOSP. In the thread are also links for the mods that the dev used in this rom. Good luck with your search!

Why don't you try one of the stripped Sense ROMs, i'm currently running SuperJelly bareback M3. It's a Sense ROM w/o Sense, has Beats and alot of other features. You can also try Viper which has an option in Aroma to remove Sense during installation. I installed Acid Audio on top of it and can run it with Beats at the same time and it's pretty sweet.

In the first post are the links for the mods. Some mods make rom loop, and I haven't found the patience to test each one separately as yet. But from what I have observed, the ClearAudio+ seems to be the biggest culprit.
One of these good days, I'll get around to it.

Yes! at last! Viper's sound mods work great on aokp (I'm on 4.3 atm and it seems the same on 4.2). Fixes the difficulties with Groove IP and the equalizer works, too. It's got that great sound you get with htc s*nse.
