http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2010/05/07/5-reasons-root-android/
idk it was a long time ago. but i think ima go ahead and root it. whats the newest way out right now?
To choose my own prl, to control my roaming, to remove ciq and other logging, overclock and undervolt.
The best reasons to root haven't happened yet. (CM7, CM9, ICS). However, it is worth rooting just for ad blocking and tethering.

I like the idea of taking total control of my device. Rooting allows me to utilize everything possible that my phone is capable of. For some reason when these devices are taken out of the box they are limited for one reason or another by htc or sprint. Rooting alleviates that by allowing you to download and flash custom roms and kernels made by incredible developers that do it all for free. Their hard work is appreciated by all in the xda community. They aren't just themeing these phones but they are tweaking them to improve performance, battery life, and overall usability. So I recommend rooting for sure and take advantage of all this xda forum has to offer and flash a custom rom. I recommend trying more than just one. And if you find one that fits your needs, you can always donate to the dev to show your appreciation.
So you can become obsessed with flashing ROMs every day & kernel combination left & right. Tweaking & improving & crashing it & bootloops & learning in the process.
+ all the cool kids are doing it.
Yea there are so many things you can do to personalize your phone. Right now i am overclocked and running a dual core script and the phone blazes. Rooting is a must, it is the joy of android. Unlike the iturd your phone will look different and how you want it instead of looking like everyone elses
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Rooting doesn't change anything in the device. It just gives you, the user, "root" access, which is what Linux calls administrative access.
Its about the possibilities you have with that access. Personally I root so that I can find a ROM that gives me better battery life than stock.

All the devices I have rooted (hero, Evo 4G, Evo Shift 4G, and soon to be 3D, once TeamEvil releases their S-Off solution), I have always overclocked the phone. It just makes the phone run that much smoother.
Also, once stable ICS roms come out, I have a feeling the 3D is going to be a beast, with the OS natively supporting multiple cores. Plus, with a little overclocking....will be the cherry on top

I see ICS videos on 3d and threads. I think ICS might be fun. Htc evo4g lost. Replacement from insurance was 3d.
Question for Sprintuser - team note? You have a Note on Sprint or Tmobile?? Hmm tmobile is gsm so you probably have it on tmobile gsm unlocked? So want one.
Root != good
I don't know why to root my EVO, maybe I'm wrong but my last Android phone I rooted and haven't noticed any improvement. Accept for some apps become avaliable. I see no reason to root EVO since it doesn't need to be overclocked.

i just recently bought the photon and im loving it, and i keep trying to find a good convincing review on why i should root my phone but cant seem to find anything, so i thought i ask why should i root this phone and what are the benefits of rooting it??? and is there a way to restore it to stock just in case anything happens???? sorry for the noob questions, im just starting out in android so its all new to me, ive been with BB for 7 years. thanks in advance.
I rooted mine for wireless tether for free. You can always unroot the device. I am wanting to see if I can put touch sense 3.0 on it. You can also remove any apps that come preinstalled on the device. It's really a personal question, no right answer.

Rooting will let you use various apps that require root, like titanium back up, root explorer and wifi tether. If you would want to go back to stock you would just flash the latest update.sbf and you would be stock and unrooted.
Unlocking you're boot loader is a different story. doing that would allow you to flash the custom recovery and flash a rom and custom kernel. There are threads in the Dev section if you are interested in rooting and unlocking.

Titanium backup (restoring apps from my EVO 3D), ad free android, cache cleaner, deleting bloat, dsp manager, set cpu are all reasons to root.

It really is a preference thang... I decided not to root mine, cause it works so well outta the box. I've rooted (and bricked & fixed) every other device i've owned, though. Just can't find a concrete reason to root this bia. Besides, most ROMS out there don't work 100% (there's always something being worked on). Just my 2c...

Been tired of webOs since the first day.Its so bloody slow to do anything, surfing the web has to be the worst experience I've had on a mobile device makes me wonder just how slow it is unclocked
I hate webOS. My sister just got a iPad from her school and I'd rather us that than webOS it sucks, no apps, nothing to do. I can't wait for android

Planned on using it as a business tool but nothing that I currently use interfaces easily with it. Nice for watching vids, a bit of surfing although it seems to have issues rendering quickly a lot of sites and for looking cool but it just ain't cutting it. I don't even carry it with me any more.
Not yet
So far I'm still enjoying it, I'm glad I didn't get a 7" tablet.
I still enjoy my PC more. Yesterday I installed Win8 on my laptop, for a pre beta it runs well. Hope we can install in the future on the TouchPad.
There's always a solution...develop some apps. This is XDA after all, not noobcentral.com
Not me, just got ubuntu on my tp and oced it to 1.728 with all performance patches installed. Mobile Flash games run FLAWLESSY on the browser. m.kongregate.com
What did everyone expect when buying it? With everyone getting "tired" of things so fast, its no wonder companies play with us the way they do. They know with the new "oooh its shiny!" Loads of cash will be but down no matter what unfished state its in at launch. I like my TP for what I use it for, tweaked it and its perfectly adequate. Then again I didn't get it expecting it to be an ipad or Galaxy tab. WebOS has potential still and the fact that they embraced their homebrew community from the git go is testament in my eyes. Patience (yeah, these days that's a laugh)

No. The ones who are tired of webos have surveyed the landscape and realize that there is nothing much to delve deeper into. When an os doesn't have a fully functional browser or ereader, no amount of delving is going to change this. Also, some of us who are tired of it bought it to run android, and don't feel like wasting time trying to fix such a broken os. When you have to edit code to get network shares mounted and even then have to pay 8 dollars for an app that will play videos, its not worth my time when my android phone and ipad does it flawlessly and free.

I myself use Beastmod, it's fast and very stable. I love it.
it really all comes down to what you prefer
i liked the stock rom but the battery was horrible so i used quick sense
which made it still feel like stock without the bloat
if you don't like sense, use beastmod
How does BeastMod compare to RevolutionHD? All three are serious contenders.
I have a love/hate relationship with Sense. I currently run ADW Launcher EX because if the flexability in home screen icon row and column configurations. I also like the ability to kill the dock, so I run it on my rooted Kindle Fire running cm7.

At my count xboarder56 has 3 if not 4 ROMS for the HTC Amaze.
This is quite impressive for such a young guy. I have 3 questions:
1. What rom is xboarder56 focusing most of his effort on?
2. How do his differ? This is not clear on the forums.
3. Are there any other good non xboarder56 ROMS?

1. I think the main focus is ICS at the moment
2. Some are sense bases some are AOSP based or more minimal than sense roms. Much smaller roms 140MB for Beastmod >300 MB for the sense roms
3. I have only ran X's ROMS
For the OP of this thread I would like to add:
Amaze is my first Android phone I have had as my primary phone. I came over from iOS.
I thought I liked Sense, but really I did not really know what I was talking about.
Sense seems to try to make some things easier. Example: When you open the app drawer you can sort, All Apps/Most used Apps/All user downloaded apps. That is all well and good but I don't need that. There are several other similar things Sense does like that. Then there are the widgets that Sense has. Some are awesome. I love the flipclock. I ran X's Sense roms so I could have that clock mostly. I did not have a need for any other widgets that Sense offers really. It is pretty though.
So now, I run BeastMod with Faux's kernal. I use the ADW launcher and Beautful Widgets (gets me a sense looking flip clock). My battery life is stupid long. I am sitting at 40% battery. 4G has been on and I have used it when I needed for what I needed. Phone Calls, updated some apps, facebook. texting some. It has not seen a charger since yesterday morning. I like the AOSP Android. You can build from there to get what you like.

From what i see, and from what i search on the web, the EVO 3D ICS , didn't get the WiFi Direct feature. But i really don't understand why.
Is there WiFi Direct on evo 3d ? Cause from what i know is a standar ICS feature , and doesn't require any special hardware.
Is this a serious question? really??????????????????????????????? Google "wifi direct" come back at me and tell me what it is. then if you have more questions..... feel free to ask once you actually understand what it is. sorry to sound mean. but really?

Your provider attempts to block features you have the right to use to attempt you to use their illegal software that they put on your phone. only stupid people pay their 25 dollars to use it.

Ok , i get it. But is there a way to connect 2 Evo 3D Devices and send some files between them , useing the WiFi without an router or not? I sow an a web site , saying the the galaxy s2 is able to do this , but the evo 3d no :| that's why i am confused.
And i don't have another phone so i can test it.
answer. yes! there is. sadly.... I don't remember what it was. hmmmmm I think it was some sort of proof of concept app someone had. I tried it out and it actually worked! BUT! I just don't remember what it was. Then again... I forget if I had to be rooted or not too. the evo 3d IS A ROUTER! I don't know if you understood me the FIRST TIME I just hinted that out. You can connect devices to it like a router... it has its own IP address. you can make an FTP server on it which would allow you to connect lets say a computer to your cell allowing you to connect to the FTP server and download the files you want. DON'T BELIEVE SOME LYING WEBSITE THAT IS GETTING PAID TO PROMOTE THE STUPID SAMSUNG PHONES! LOL really!? Even the IPhone can do this! Almost every smartphone today can do it.... but the issue is that the providers are illegally blocking it to promote their own crap version of it and then they limit it so you can't use it.
Either way... you need to root your phone. Just take like 2-3 hours of your day. back everything up. WRITE DOWN all your settings. then just root it. if you don't know what you're doing, don't play stupid and install crap mods that you see on this site. just install the rooted factory software. because when we get 4.0, you'll just be doing it all over again... but then again. in the long run. this is all a piece of cake.
Ok, thx runcool.

Wi-Fi Direct allows Android 4.0 (API level 14) or later devices with the appropriate hardware to connect directly to each other via Wi-Fi without an intermediate access point. Using these APIs, you can discover and connect to other devices when each device supports Wi-Fi Direct, then communicate over a speedy connection across distances much longer than a Bluetooth connection. This is useful for applications that share data among users, such as a multiplayer game or a photo sharing application.

That was unnecessary.
If you're trying to get your post count up, post something meaningful, this isn't the first time I've seen you post something pointless.
And, OP, I actually agree with you here.
When I was using a Sense 4.0 ROM, the phone had it. Using a Sense 3.6 ROM, I don't have it.
So I know that the phone has the hardware and is capable of it, but no devs have implemented it.
If you don't really care about 3D and WiFi tethering, install a Sense 4.0 ROM and you'll have the feature.
Otherwise, you'll just have to wait and live without it.
It's a [Q] but seems general enough. I was tooling around Rez xda and realized we've got a lot of action going on right now.
Remember when we all took the time to complain and complain and complain some more about the lack of development & devs working on Rez? Well, I just went from chingy51o's ineffabilis to chad0989 & mbobino's work on cm9 downloaded and pondered antp121's kang, then back to ineffabilis, flashed Sebastians kernel, applied therev29's redzound skin, who mike d's wallpaper and added zph pilot's coded splash screen.. that's utilizing a small portion of the devs work on the Rezound (which by the way is only $79 with contract now). I've got a nexus 7 and love it but still have way more love for the Rezound.. I'm using 5 different dev posts/releases for my setup right now (so no complaints here, and never really did b4 but many of us did).. how much RezDev's work are you utilizing now that we've got many options?
