I don't get why people complain. Gorilla glass does not mean indestructable. If you drop you phone on concrete and it lands a certain way it may break. Stop dropping your phone is the best solution imo.

the more scratch resistant something is (gorilla glass) the more brittle it is (easier to crack).

Nope.
1) There's no direct correlation between brittle and hard. An advanced material, like Gorilla Glass, *may* be harder and less brittle at the same time compared to regular glass.
2) If I remember correctly, all Gorilla Glass demonstrations of the past involved smashing a small piece with a hammer. Gorilla Glass is definitely less brittle than regular glass.
Again, we do not have gorilla glass

Meanwhile, the weight and size are unusual in part because of its large multi-touch screen with a size reaches 4.3 inches diagonally and getting the same HTC Sensation resolution (540 x 960 pixels). This display is for displaying images in three dimensions without requiring the user to buy special glasses separately, in addition to the glass used is Gorilla Glass, a material highly resistant to both scratches and bump

Do you really think after the EVO 4g and EVO Shift they would just stop using gorilla glass on the EVO line?

+1 no one said it was gorilla glass. What I read was it is HTC version of a gorilla type of glass, but not "gorilla glass".

If it only dropped 2ft. How on earth are there 3 impact spots on the screen? Did you drop it on a bed of spikes?
I call bull****, I think you hit it a few times with something. It doesn't look right for a single drip from 2ft.

Glass would be brittle. It is just the nature of ceramic materials.
In this test you talking about. Was the glass suspended by two support point with the impact load being in the middle? Or was the middle slowly being pushed down?
these mobile glass test should be done horizontally normal to a side or corner. to imitate a fall. A normal load from the surface test is for test people punching their phones or a stressful push.
Would anyone here know the density of our screen? Maybe it is the same as the corning glass but from a different manufacture.
Well I have. Don't know how but I have a quarter inch hairline scratch in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Just enough to piss me off.

That's what I said. Haven't been around any sand and I'm pretty picky about what goes in my pockets. Phone is always by itself. Oh well, just ranting/venting. Lol. Anyone know of a good way to reduce a scratches visibility without a screen protector?

Just the back cover. Starts from headphone jack and goes about 3 inches dianglely. It's weird thought. It's compact at headphone jack and spreads apart to the end. Four scratches. Not sure how that happened. My screen protector is all scratched up. Def won't by these screen protectors again. Got at sprint. Don't remember the name but white package of 3. Advise don't get. Easily scratched

Use Zagg HD from bestbuy, it feels almost like glass to the touch.
Or try out SGP ultra clear protectors...also have the close to glass feel! You can't tell there's a screen protector, but your screen is definitely being protected! Great investment

Me either. Don't like protectors or cases. Had Gorilla glass on the S1&2 and didn't scratch them so I think I'll keep that tradition alive. Just stays by itself in the pocket. But with the gloss plastic on the S3, I opted for a Cruiserlite case.

Dont worry man.
Its gorilla glass... wont break so easily.
I already dropped mine a hundred times. It hasnt got even a scratch.
Still, if you want to protect it that much, use a screen protector and put a case around your phone that covers your phone a little from front. This way, even if your phone falls, your screen will not have direct contact with ground and it wont break.
Bump lol.

To someone out there this might be helpful.

I'm using one too and noticed the buttons hardly respond. Before it would work perfectly.
I rather press them a few times than having to worry about a scratch on my screen though - A sacrifice I'd be willing to live with.
Hmm, now that you mention it... My capacitive buttons didn't start acting unresponsive until I placed my screen protector. Back is the biggest culprit with it sometimes ignoring any amount of presses under any amount of pressure.

Or just buy a screen protector that only covers the screen, not including the capacitive butttons...
I personally need to buy a screen protector just bought my case today and thought about the screen protector but it is crazy expensive at the tmobile store... 25 dollars for a screen protector naaaaaah

I have the same problem.....
I really don't like the idea of not having a screen protector, nor not covering the bottom portion where the capacitive buttons are.
However I've been wondering...
How about if we punch holes where the capacative buttons are......
My guess is it would probably work with a high end hole punches which is extremely sharp and wont bend the protector while punching..
Any thoughts?

Gorilla Glass wasn't meant to hold an impact of a fall regardless of it being from only 6 inches. It was meant to absorb getting hairline scratches from everyday use.

Hey guys this is well and truly a sad post
I've had my phone for nearly 3 weeks and on the second day I went out and bought a screen protector and a case for my phone as I wanted to keep it in prestine condition
Unfortunately, they didn't have back protectors. Which is the area that has scrathed the most !
They are light scratches except for one where you can feel it just slightly, and the others ( which there are a lot ) you can't.
I normally have a case on it but when I'm at home I take it out and let it be free aha
Have you guys got ant on yours?
