My One doesnt play nice with screen protector - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I was having some skip issues. I had a screen protector since day 1. I was going to return the unit. Low and behold I take the pos protector off and the home and back buttons work great. No more missed touches so far.
To someone out there this might be helpful.
Meh probably not.

I'm using one too and noticed the buttons hardly respond. Before it would work perfectly.
I rather press them a few times than having to worry about a scratch on my screen though - A sacrifice I'd be willing to live with.

Hmm, now that you mention it... My capacitive buttons didn't start acting unresponsive until I placed my screen protector. Back is the biggest culprit with it sometimes ignoring any amount of presses under any amount of pressure.

It's got gorilla glass 2 right. It should be ok. The phone doesn't seem to work right with protectors on.

I wonder what the technical issue is here because I've never had a phone bothered by a screen protector. (And it's only the capacitive buttons at that.) It's really been testing my patience today.

Agreed. Same here. Now that I took it off the capacitive buttons are good again. One thing is clear, no screen protectors!! They mess up the capacitive buttons!!

I had the same issue with my EVO back in the day. Never figured it out.

Or just buy a screen protector that only covers the screen, not including the capacitive butttons...
I personally need to buy a screen protector just bought my case today and thought about the screen protector but it is crazy expensive at the tmobile store... 25 dollars for a screen protector naaaaaah
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

I have the same problem.....
I really don't like the idea of not having a screen protector, nor not covering the bottom portion where the capacitive buttons are.
However I've been wondering...
How about if we punch holes where the capacative buttons are......
My guess is it would probably work with a high end hole punches which is extremely sharp and wont bend the protector while punching..
Any thoughts?

I haven't used a screen protector since I had my EVO... I just get a decent case, Gorilla Glass is pretty hard to scratch up. I don't like the tactile loss when you use screen protectors at all.

Tell that to my Galaxy S3 that not only scratched but also broke from a fall of less than 6 inches. My faith in Gorilla Glass has been shattered.

Gorilla Glass wasn't meant to hold an impact of a fall regardless of it being from only 6 inches. It was meant to absorb getting hairline scratches from everyday use.
I'm sure you seen YouTube videos already on this.

I've had plenty of Gorilla Glass phones scratch despite the fact that I baby all my phones. I don't buy into the hype and you shouldn't either. Gorilla Glass is a name and a marketing scheme.

This issue was fixed already in the most recent software update for the global model. We just need to wait for T-Mobile to push the update out to us.

I'm wondering if it's also worth calling T-Mobile about this or if they (and HTC) are aware of it being present on our models.

Guess it all depends on how careful you are with your phone. I've had my hd2 for 14 months. It has gorilla glass. Not one scratch. Looks the way it did the day I bought it.
I am kind of surprised that people still use this stuff. Have had my Hero from day one and not a scratch on it (I don't believe his is gorilla glass either, heck I don't even have a case for it and only problems are from the buttons wearing off).
I also wonder if putting a screen protector on it will change the 3D effects going on.
oh yea, good question. i thought about that, but what the heck, its only $11
I used a zagg on my hero for a long time. Then it got some sorry of crap on it that wouldn't come. So I removed it and went with just the screen. I must admit, at first I was thoroughly surprised with its durability but it did scratch. Twice. Big deep ones. And I don't even know how. I keep it in a body glove case and I take good care of it.
Idk, I think screen protectors are a good thing but its just personal preference I guess.

I also used Zagg on my Evo and also on my wife's. Ended up going naked on the screens and neither one of ours have scratches on the screens. Just can't keep in your pocket with change or keys etc.

Here comes the gorilla glass argumemt again. Have you never seen an iphone with a scratched screen? Ive seen countless that are just terrible. Gorilla glass can be scratched by sand and their is sand in dirt and probably in your pocket. It might be harder to break but i dont think its too much harder to scratch.

If the gorilla glass doesnt effect it i dont think a screen protector will. Surely we would of heard reports of that by now with the optimus 3d. The matte ones could have some sort of effect.

That's what I said. Haven't been around any sand and I'm pretty picky about what goes in my pockets. Phone is always by itself. Oh well, just ranting/venting. Lol. Anyone know of a good way to reduce a scratches visibility without a screen protector?

Just the back cover. Starts from headphone jack and goes about 3 inches dianglely. It's weird thought. It's compact at headphone jack and spreads apart to the end. Four scratches. Not sure how that happened. My screen protector is all scratched up. Def won't by these screen protectors again. Got at sprint. Don't remember the name but white package of 3. Advise don't get. Use Zagg HD from bestbuy, it feels almost like glass to the touch.
Or try out SGP ultra clear protectors...also have the close to glass feel! You can't tell there's a screen protector, but your screen is definitely being protected! Great investment

Me either. Don't like protectors or cases. Had Gorilla glass on the S1&2 and didn't scratch them so I think I'll keep that tradition alive. Just stays by itself in the pocket. But with the gloss plastic on the S3, I opted for a Cruiserlite case.

Screen Guard for HOX+

Some users have reported minor, tiny scratches, but I believe that was just coating over the Gorilla, could be specks of sand... I use Zagg HD on mine ...
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
The screen is pretty resilient and should hold up unless you do garden work and such, if you experience scratches of imperfections you can recoat the glass with a liquid shield.
So then the glass itself doesn't get scratched,it's only the coating above it that's susceptible to damage?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Yes man, I totally recommend you to put screen protector... Me thinking naively that I don't need a SP got lots of minor coating chips... It is almost invisible but when you rub your finger on the screen, you will see it.. Real scratches? None.

Use of a screen protector?

Ok so I was wondering if anyone DOES NOT use a screen protector...I want to part with my screen protector except for beach trips and what not. Can the gorilla glass accomplish this. I know how easily quartz can scratch anything but the screen is so beautiful
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
I don't use a screen protector, There are a number of microscopic scratches on the surface of the screen. I can't photograph them with a camera because I don't have one, but yeah they are there. You can only see them when the screen is angled perfectly in the light. The scratches don't bother me because I honestly can't see them unless I look very hard. They are there. I treat my phone well. Have never dropped it or rubbed it against a surface that will scratch it. This wear and tear is just from the microscopic sand in my pocket.
Don't use one as well. I still haven't got any scratches on the screen so.. Only thing you have to make sure is that you really don't "accidentally" put your keys in the same pocket. Normally it should last very long without any damages
AW: Use of a screen protector?
Same thing here. I do use my device for 3 months now without a screen protector. I also do have some tiny scratches on my screen that can only be seen in the right light and angle so I honestly don't give a f**k

Zagg HD
I have a Zagg HD screen protector for mine, and you can only tell its ont here around the edges and with the screen off. When the screen is on it pretty much disappears except for the edge that shows under the earpiece. Very happy with it, as there have been gouges in the protector that could have been my screen. Interestingly enough thee gouges have disappeared over time and only last a day or two on the protector before it looks almost new again.
I never use screen protectors or cases. At that same time I'm always careful with my devices

+1 for this. Haven't used a screen protector but the gorilla glass is really holding it's own. My pocket is the only protection my phone gets. Even with my keys accidentally going into the same pocket I still haven't had any problems.
I use a Seidio Active case, but no screen protector. I tried one, but it didn't fit right due to the way the glass is beveled at the edges. I keep it in my pocket and it still looks great.
No screen protector here either, I picked up a snap-on case/holster combo on Flea-bay with a screen protector. Took that sucker off about 10 minutes after it went on. Haven't used one in general for a while even back when I had my iPhone 4, got tired of fighting loose corners and air bubbles.

Otterbox Defender?

Anyone know if the O.D. has a protective film over the screen like the ones for the iphone?

It does. I have had that case on my phone since day 1. The only problem I had with it was, you had to press down harder for the screen to register whats being pressed. I got used to it though. It may have just been mine though.

I highly doubt it's just yours. I have multiple defenders for various iphones laying around here and you have to press down a bit harder on all of them(especially if there's a screen protector already installed). If there is a screen protector on yours, I would remove it.

No cutting needed. Simply push on it from the front and it'll come apart where it is glued off. Really easy to do.
I keep a ghost armor on my phone so the built in screen protector is really awkward. I'm actually trying to sell mine because of it haha. Otherwise it's a really solid case.

I removed the cover and now I love how the case feels. The extra screen protector was a little bit of an overkill but I love the case now that it doesn't feel like I am using a resistive screen. The other issue with the extra screen protector was it was hard to use the capacitive buttons on the phone.
