After trying the lag fix I could not longer open any applications they just kept force closing. I tried restarting but now the phone wont even turn back on. it stays on galaxy s screen then just goes black. I ade a back up in clock work prior to doing this but I cant access it as i was accessing it through rom manager. How can i flash the back up to recover my phone =(
IF you made the backup using NANDROID in Clockwork recovery:
boot into recovery by holding volume up+volume down+power, as soon as you see the "white vibrant", let go of power but keep holding volume up+volume down. you will be brought to recovery, it should be black background with blue text, then use your volume buttons, to go to reinstall packages, use the power button to select it, that will put you into clockwork recovery. use the volume buttons to go to Nandroid->Restore then choose your backup, Good luck.
If all else fails you may need to use ODIN to get the factory image back on, information on how to do that is in the stickies. Search for it, you will find it.
You can open the backup by holding both volume keys as you power on the phone I believe....either that or it will go into download mode and you can then use odin to flash. Hope it helps.
Edit: nevermind, look at the pay above mine lol

Recovery
Thanks for the quick replys greatly appreciated. I click reinstall packages but ti doesnt go into recovery. I'm thinking because I called the lag fix update.zip it is reinstalling that instead of the recovery..I think im still new to all this. I looked at the odin sticky. is there a way I can use that program and use the backup that is on my phone or is it lost and must I use the one that is provided in the sticky?
You can install Stock Rom Via ODIN. I found the link from this forum. I was in the same situation yesterday but I ended up flashing to Vibrant5.zip instead. After that, my files were still on the phone. If you made a backup with ROM manager, your backup files should be in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. Reinstall ROM manager and see if you can restore back to that.
I cant get into get to rom manager because my phone just boots to a black screen. is there away i can access my internal sd without having the phone booted?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 follow the instructions...worked for me last night when I 'bricked' my phone by removing twlauncher with root manager
Solution
**********SOLUTION***********
Thanks for the reply's from those that did. i ended up using odin3 which took me forever to figure out lol. The brunt of my problems was getting into download mode. after searching the internet for which seemed like for ever and 100 unsuccessful attempts to get into download mode I came across on post that really helped.
I had to turnoff the phone, plug it in and wait until i seen the green battery indicator. Once i saw it i held down both volume up and down keys then pressed power. The key was as soon as the battery indicator disappeared you have to let go of power.
that worked on the first try for me from there it was smooth sailing. Odin is very simple but its the little things that are very tricky and because i didnt know what the protocol was I didnt know whether I was even in download mode or not, so these are some things to know
*you will no when you are in download mode because a picture of a yellow triangle will appear on the screen with an android in the middle with a shovel digging.
*No the recovery menu is not download mode
*Just because Odin detects the phone(Displays COM port in yellow) Does not mean you are in download mode....Which was my misconception.
*The "analyzing file" message should only appear briefly a minute or two max. Anything longer is not normal and Odin needs to be reset as well as the whole process.
*It doesn't take to long to flash and it WORKS I am back on stock and happy as hell =)
Thanks again to those that helped and good luck to any future brickers.
i just saw this post but what i did was to save the clockwork update.zip into my computer and downloaded this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739300. unzipped it and deleted the root.zip from the directory and renamed update.zip to root.zip and hit rootme.bat
the program will push root.zip (clockwork recovery) into phone and reboot into recovery while stuck in any screen =)
I had this exact same set of issues. Ultimately what caused the problem is the fact Busybox wasn't installed. I ran the update.zip version that supposedly had busybox, ran the script and then all of my programs crashed. The phone would never reboot after that. Ultimately saved it with Odin and was able to restore my nandroid backup after getting ROM Manager going again. Very scary hour there!

Super Hard Bricked my SGH T959 Vibrant
Please PLEASEEEEEE HELP ME ... PLEASE
I was flashing jelly bean 4.1 (my previous version was ICS 4.0 by ExROM by LightX). When I rebooted my phone it was showing the Vibrant screen >> "VIBRANT SAMSUNG". then my phone was not starting. it was stocked in the screen. i did CWM recovery but it was also not working. I have tried many ways by ODIN or Heimdell Soft Unbrick. but now i get into only downloading mode. no vibrant screen isn't appearing. only one time ODIN can recognize my phone then i haven't the t959 tar file. so i didn't flash that time. after that i gave soft unbrick by Heimdell's software then my download mode went off and not restarting. by the way when i downloaded the TAR file and connect to ODIN then ODIN couldn't recognize my phone. my PC can recognize my phone but ODIN can't. whenever i give soft unbrick the download screen goes off. i have tried two computers and two cables. same problem appearing. i have also tried all odin versions but these are not working. only one time ODIN can recognize my phone. further before, when i gave volume up + volume down + power button then RST_STAT = 0*0 ..... appearing and an android said "UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" but now there is no android but the red little letters still appearing on my screen. PLEASE BOSS HELP ME... PLEASE .
I know I'm going to get flamed, but really, shouldn't a forum be were people go to get help. And as long as others are willing to answer questions, what's the point in flaming... (but I digress) I did a search and really haven't found a similar situation.
I successfully flashed AOSP-ish last night and spent the day playing with it and getting all my apps just the way I wanted them. I didn't do the SD-Fix as it really didn't seem like I needed to. I was able to copy some files to the internal SD and read most every file I tried, but oddly, I was not able to copy all the files from the TB folder to my PC and I had trouble writing some .apk files to the phone.
At some point in the day, I removed the update.zip and AOSP zip file from the internal SD. I thought I would go ahead and do the SD Fix, so I copied this to the phone and went into Clockworkmod, but being maybe too paranoid, I thought I should take a backup first so I wouldn't lose all my tinkering (I had been backing up using TB all day, so this may have been overkill). As soon as I hit the Backup Current ROM option in CWM, the phone reboots and comes back to the Samsung Vibrant screen, and there it has been stuck ever since.
I waited like 15 minutes and decided to do the 3 button thing. When that didn't help, I tried pulling the battery and doing the 3 button thing.
What can I do to get my phone booting properly again?
Thanks in advance.
Download the latest version of Odin from the Vibrant bible.
Download the stock firmware for our phones (file called T959UVJFD.tar)
Download something called s1_odin_20100512.pit.
Put your phone in the download state:
1. Make sure phone is completely off.
2. Hold down the Volume up and Volume down keys.
3. While still holding down the Vol up/down keys, plug in your USB cord into your phone (other end should already be in your computer of course).
4. The phone will turn on and keep holding Volume up/down until a yellow triangle with an android shoveling dirt appears then...
Open Odin.
Your phone should pop up as "COMX", X being any number.
For the "PIT" select the .pit file you downloaded.
For "PDA" you'll use the .tar file you download.
Don't edit any of the other settings and press "Start" and wait until it finishes and you're all good.
Hope this helps!

might sound stupid, but power the phone completely off, put it on the charger untill the battery icon pops up, then power it up and it may boot. i ran into a problem like this when i used that rom.
Here is what I would do.
Get the phone into download mode, restore the phone using 1 of the roms from dev section. Then use clockwork to restore back to 1 of the back ups.
Incase you need help to get phone into download mode,
Remove the battery, plug the phone to USB, make sure the USB connected to PC.
Press and hold both volume buttons and put the battery back on. that shoud get you into download mode.
Use the latest version of ODIN from dev section. Hope this helps.
Thanks buru, that worked perfectly. I appreciate the detailed response.
On a side note, do you know what caused the problem? I'm always looking to learn and would love to know what not to do in the future.
Thanks again.

Haha you're welcome , just started flashing this phone yesterday haha and I ended up messing it up somehow and had to look everywhere to learn how to fix it.
I'm not too sure what happened but can only guess that maybe you flashed over a ROM and when you deleted the old on the new one was "corrupt" and it just deleted your old on and stayed like how it was?
I think that's what happened to me though lol, but had to use the Odin thing twice already ;p.
And people say all these weird ways to get into the Downloading screen lol.

Just did this too, thanks a million, worked like a charm when nothing else did!
Today was I was watching the video on how to flash darky's resurrection.zip rom,
then zi tried flashing it to my wifes Vibrant , I folloeed the video step by step. I used odin I get the green light saying the phone passed then when it reboots it get stuck on the galaxyi900 screen and it doesnt boot up. Ive flashed the thing with odin at least 10 -15 times after and still no luck, it keeps getting stuck at the opening. My wife says if I dont fix it I have to buy her a new phone. Someone save me please!!!!!!
LMAO........... yeah my wife said the same thing...... sounds like you may have not disabled the voodoo lagfix before the flash.
you will probably need to flash back to stock. I am not sure what is stock on this phone I am going to assume it is the same Vibrant.
If you can get into recovery and you did have voodoo installed disable it. If not you can disable it on your phone and copy the folder and then load it into the internal sd card messed up phone and replace the old folder.
Then you may need to use Eugenes froyo that does not brick as a intermediary flash. if you can Odin that (use Odin 1.7) then when it you flash it do not check the repartition box. When it is beginning to reboot, do not let it fully reboot, pull the battery. Then Redo the Odin as described below:
Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Leave all check boxes the way they are. Check the repartition box.
Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Click the PDA button and select T959JFD.tar and then click Start
When it is done you will be back at stock. Then Root the phone and go from there.
still getting the loop! this phone is jacked up. I can enter download without pressing the power button, cause it turns on and off itself

Depends on what you smoke........
You may need the pit 513 file instead of the pit 512 file, these mapping files are a bit different and it may be a cause. Hard to know without seeing the phone
Also you could do a full wipe if you can get into recovery, wipe cache, phone reset and dalvik wipe (in advanced) then try That may work better for you.
It is recoverable.......... and also the best way to get your wife to calm down......... a romantic restaurant with candle light........ you go on Tuesday and she goes on Thursday........
Hope you get it fixed..........
thanks for the support but no luck I tried 513 pit nothing my phone still wont boot up I still get the opening screen then it shuts off and starts again.
im really having a bad day now i tried flashing the stock rom 2.2 with odin now the phone wont even power on! i guess its really a brick. i bought myself a paper weight
Hello All,
First, let me say how much I've enjoyed reading this Forum and how much I LOVED my TMobile Samsung Vibrant 3G. While it worked for a long time running Froyo 2.2 with a Bionix Next-Gen V2 ROM, it was fantastic, but lately the microphone had been dying (I sounded more and more muffled no matter what I did). So I flashed up to ICS and installed Chimera to see if that might help. While the phone ran beautifully except for several apps that were rather wonky, I was getting more and more muffled.
So the other day I decided to restore my Nandroid backup, however when I flashed back I got stuck on the Vibrant boot screen. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get to Recovery.
How do I get back to Recovery from this? I have never used Odin, the only time I've ever hooked the phone up to the computer was when I originally flashed from Eclair to Froyo many moons ago. So please let me know if I'm missing something.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
You made a mistake when you tried to restore a 2.2 based backup from ICS base ROM. Now you must Odin to stock, its not that hard. First you will need to download the Odin program. I'm assuming you have device drivers on your PC but double check. Next you need 2 files, the 512 pit and jfd firmware file. Once you have those files you need to get in download mode.
I will link a thread with files and directions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9375927

OK I installed Odin and the necessary files and drivers, I plugged in the phone, but when I try to turn it on into Download Mode the Vibrant doesn't respond. There's just the little spinning light in the center of the screen. Odin doesn't recognize the phone either.
Anything else I can do?
Odin won't recognize unless you are in DL mode. I linked a video, I know it says captivate. Don't worry about the mod etc just follow it to get in download mode.

If this won't play just search download mode vibrant on YouTube.

OK watched the video, but 2 things:
-when I try to boot into Recovery it gets stuck on the Vibrant Samsung initial splash screen and never moves, even when holding down the 3 buttons;
-this video assumes I can access the phone to install the fix or anything else. I can't, it just stays stuck in the splash screen;
-I tried holding down the 3 buttons and simultaneously plugging in the USB cable, and still nothing but the splash screen;
-is there any way to turn on the device while hooked into the computer so Odin or something else can use the necessary files to turn it on and make it accessible?
Thanks all for your patience and advice, it's much appreciated. I LOVE this little phone and really want to heal her!
Hi,
I think you have tried to go to recovery mode using 3 button combo. But in order to use ODIN device has to be in DOWNLOAD MODE which can be done using following steps
1)start off with phone turned off
2)press down volume up, and volume down at same time, and never let go until you get into download mode. DON'T touch the power button
3) while holding down both volume buttons get your usb cable which is connected to your computer
4)plug in the usb cable into your phone, while you still hold down both up/down volume buttons at same time. Don't touch the power button.
5)As soon as you plug your usb cable into your phone, the phone will instantly go into Download mode.
6)You may now release the volume buttons

NOTE: here is a link I found. Just take a look http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-access-download-and-recovery-mode-in-samsung-vibrant/
OK we are trying to get download mode not recovery. Your phone must be off for download mode. If it flashes vibrant screen you have gone to far and something is wrong. I specifically said pay no attention to the mod in video. Regardless I think you might need a jig to get in download mode.
I approve this message.
OK, noob error (smacks head), I kept saying Recovery Mode when what I needed was DL Mode, my sincerest apologies.
I got into DL Mode finally by holding down the Volume buttons (not the Power button), then plugging in the USB cable. The Vibrant promptly went into DL mode. Odin recognized the phone and off we went. It's now back to Stock Eclair (yuck).
So next question: am I rooted or do I have to do that all over again? And if so, what's the fastest way to do it so I can flash to the ROMs I knew and loved?
Lastly, a great big THANK YOU to samsgun357 & haarsh for all your assistance, you guys ROCK! :good:
No you are not rooted after using Odin to go back to stock. Glad you got it buddy! Now use this guide to get root and cwm recovery. Option b is probably what you want

Glad you are successfully ODINed and you are in perfect position to make things BETTER
Still the device is not rooted as samsgun357 said. but no worries it is a simple process to get rooted and go ahead. I will post an video and hope it will also ease up your task

Happy Flashing :good:
Yep, got it rooted and flashed Cyanogen7, then flashed up to an ICS ROM (started with Chimera but it's a tad wonky so flashed over to Euphoria, we'll see how that goes).
That said, the microphone is still sounding very muffled, so I think it's a hardware issue. I was due for an upgrade anyway so I picked up the Samsung 4G Blaze (nice since the Vibrant I had was the 3G). So right now I'm just having fun exploring Android on the Vibrant while I read up on how to root and improve the Blaze.
I will miss this little phone though, it was light and super fast and agile, perfectly sized, especially compared to the mini-tablets coming out lately like the Samsung SIII and LG L9 or HTC One. I prefer smaller phones, so the Blaze fits the bill right now even though it's heavier than my old Vibrant.
Thanks again for everyone's assistance, VERY much appreciated! :good:
Hey guys,
I'm having the same problem w/ my phone (see img).
I can't get out of the little loading pinwheel.
I've tried all the prescribed methods in this thread.
Thoughts?

Download mode IS what you need to use Odin a get back to stock.
The above post shows the button combo for DL mode and recovery based on which bootloaders you're running (thanks haarsh). If you haven't flashed GB boots, you have froyo boots.
Now make sure you have the correct Odin files and drivers on your PC.
The goal here is to get power to the phone, while holding button combo, from the PC.
Do a battery pull/replace. Plug USB into computer
While holding your button combo (see above) plug the phone in.
Hopefully you see DL mode
Also try pulling battery, plug USB in PC and phone
While holding button combo, pop the battery back in.
This can be tricky sometimes so don't give up.
OK. Let me backup and give you more info.
So sorry...
I rooted, but was unable to download ROM manager from the Store (im assuming bc it was running Froyo).
I was able to get CMW to install via update.zip. Once installed the phone was going directly into recovery when asked (3 button method). It would go into the Anroid recovery, first and then from continually installing CMW, go into CMW.
From there i installed a CM10 nightly.
Install went fine, but no mobile data connection. I went back to CMW and restored the original ROM, rebooted and am stuck w/ the pinwheel.
I can't get into to download mode AT ALL. I've tried the various button methods with no luck.
From what I did, I can assume that 2.1 IS installed on the phone.
Thoughts?
Thank you so much for the help.
Well the issue you have was caused by going back to a 2.1 or 2.2 build from cm10 through cwm. You should have used Odin to get back to stock.
If you can't get in DL mode manually you will need to buy a DL jig. You can get them from www.mobiletechvideos.com also from amazon I think. You can also make one yourself, just search USB download jig, you should find it.

I have a Galaxy Player 3.6 YP-GS1CB/XAA Nothing was modified from the factory image, It went dead while a game was running and now when I start it, it comes up with the samsung logo and restarts. I havent been able to get it connected to the PC either. I left it charge for hours, when off the charge icon doesnt come up on the screen either. How would i reset it to the default rom, I havent been able to get it to start in download mode either, if im doing it right.
I have a few of these around so I did try putting a full charge battery in it and using its battery in another player and the other player works fine, the battery is full. So basically its stuck in a boot loop and I would prefer fixing it myself then sending it off for repair if possible, any ideas?
Edit: I managed to get into recovery mode and reset it to defaults but its still stuck in a boot loop after recovery and clearing caches, I can now get it into download mode, it seems i need to reflash the stock firmware if possible. Where could I download it and how would i flash it? I have another player available if i need to download the firmware off of it

if your device has a physical home button, it is eu/int
if your device has a capacitive home button, it is usa
you can find the files here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741
this wont be 100% default, you will have root too
you will need to use odin in windows, do NOT check "repartition", just check PDA and load the factoryfs.tar.md5 file (at least i know thats the filename for usa version, as that is all i use)

My little brother ran into the exact same problem with his Galaxy Player 3.6 he sent it to me to try and fix. The problem is identical to the one you had. My question is, do you recall how you were able to get it into recovery mode? I've tried pressing the Power and Down button which does bring me to the "Warning Custom OS" screen but as soon as I try pressing the Up key it just reboots and goes back to the Samsung screen.
Keep holding it.

I have a few of these around so I did try putting a full charge battery in it and using its battery in another player and the other player works fine, the battery is full. So basically its stuck in a boot loop and I would prefer fixing it myself then sending it off for repair...

Hello,
Try these steps:
1. Download stock rom (tar file/for EU or US, if you got the US edition, download factoryfs.img and normalboot.img and repack them both into a tar file, maybe with 7zip)
2. Download and install Samsung Kies for the drivers
3. Download ODIN3 (This is a flashing toolkit, just search on the internet for it and make sure you download V1.85 or higher)
4. Take out the battery from your player and wait a few seconds
5. Put the battery back into your device and wait also a few seconds
6. Boot player into Download Mode
7. Open ODIN (odin3.exe)
8. Click "PDA" button and select the tar file which includes factoryfs.img and normalboot.img
9. Make sure nothing except "Auto reboot" and "F.Reset time" are checked
10. Connect device and wait until ODIN recognizes it (you will "Added!!" in the white box
11. Click "Start" and wait until flashing process is fully finished
12. Unplug and reboot!
Good luck!

I have a Galaxy Player 3.6 YP-GS1CB/XAA Nothing was modified from the factory image, It went dead while a game was running and now when I start it, it comes up with the samsung logo and restarts. Edit: I managed to get into recovery mode and reset it to defaults but its still stuck in a boot loop after recovery and clearing caches, I can now get it into download mode, it seems i need to reflash the stock firmware if possible. Where could I download it and how would i flash it? I have another player available if i need to download the firmware off of it

i had the same issue with my galaxy 3.6 media player, the only difference is after the annoying ass bootloop the player just stopped turning on entirely. is there any way to fix this? my pc wont recognize it, it wont start up at all, so i have no idea if its even taking a charge. any help would be appreciated greatly...
Try to charge the player completely and take the battery out for 15 seconds. After that you need to go into download mode, download Odin, and load a stock ROM that fits your region. Fill it in as PDA and press start.
If that didn't work then you can try to download a kernel that best fits your device aka clockworkmod recovery and put in PDA and press start. After that your device should boot up in the recovery.

I think I have the same story.
I have a Samsung Galaxy player 3.6 model: YP-GS1CB/XAA, that seems to be dead. I have looked a long time at different ways to solve this own my own and am at a dead end.
Symptoms:
1. Device shows only the Samsung Logo when I try to turn it on, looks like it is in a reboot loop.
2. When hooked to a charger or computer, it shows a small pinwheel on screen.
Actions: I hold down power and volume down buttons to try to go into Odin download and the logo goes away(blank screen). Then it vibrates and logo reappears. If I continue to hold the buttons down it just repeats, hence reboot loop.
I tried the restore mode, power and volume up buttons with no results.
I attempted Odin and Unsoft Brick. Both did not recognize the device. I also tried two different windows computers and different USB ports. Still no progress.
Question: Do I have a brick or is there some other way to breathe life back into my little toy?
Thanks for any light you might be able to shine on this.

Yes, first download a ROM, choose from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741 try the Original ROM. Then boot into recovery by pressing Home, Volume Up and Power Button at the same time while the device is off! Then flash the ROM. Just ask if you need questions/help.

Well if that's the case, I guess its safe to say that your phone is dead?
Hm, have you tried using adb to go to recovery mode?
