Led light - Motorola Droid X2

Is there any way to keep the led light flashing green? I use to have a Blackberry so I'm use to the light blinking
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App

Do you mean like a service indicator? As far as I know, there is no conventional way to do this. You may want to check out an app called LightFlow, it may have a way for you to do this however, it's probably going to drain your battery much faster than normal.

+1 for LightFlow. And, yes, it does drain your battery a little faster. I use it to notify me of specific things my phone is doing.

BLN & Battery

Ok before anyone starts raging, I've already searched around the forum and seen some say BLN is a battery drain and others saying it isn't. I'm curious as to what peoples experience has been with it on all the new 2.2.1 ROMs.

BLN Control....Theres A Free And Paid Version
It Dnt Drain Battery That Much..just COntrol it by using the app
MY sugestion USE noLED app it shuts off your soft buttons so they wont light up and noLED is way cooler PP
from what i've read from neldar himself (the guy the introduced the bln code, and created the bln settings app, and using the pro version you can control blinking, schedule when the bln on is implemented and when it isn't, etc), he's seen it only uses 0.85% of your total battery.

Care to share the reasons why? Thanks...
you guys are so paranoid about 1-3% battery life.
I'm using CM7, and i have bln set to always on (as flashing bln eats up more battery, plus the normal Cm7 stuf doesn't support blinking bln). I get ~45 hours of battery life. For those that think bln eats up battery, it's only placebo effect.

CM7 hasn't had any added in blinking support since about April. There is one kernel that doesn't use LEDNotify, but rather the actual bln code. But I will have my led lights on for hours at a time, sometimes the entire night, and I still get nice battery life.
As for Samsung roms, I compared both blinking and non blinking, and tlfor me the difference was negligiable (sp?).
But seriously, stop worry about these stupid 1-2% and enjoy your phone.

^ the question was posed before people KNEW how much of a % it took, lets not be harsh. Not sure how you are getting near 2 days of battery life. I assume you mean if you just leave it sitting... not a very good indicator for real life. I think 10 hours is more like it.
I've been using BLN control pro with bi-winning for a month or two now and have noticed no difference in battery beyond normal variance.
I prefer BLN to noLED because I was never able to get noLED to work consistently.

[Q] Notification LED Blinking rate

Hi guys,
In my opinion, the notification LED blinks way too slow in Atrix... I used "Blink" application from the market when i had Froyo to change that but it doesn't work in Gingerbread
Does anyone know how to change that notification LED blink rate for received SMSs? Any working applications or configurations?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work...
The flashing speed for lightflow "fast" is the same as Gingerbread stock notification, i need it much faster since i always leave my phone in silence mode when i am at work...
Any other options?

I fear always on may burn the LED...
I had a much faster rate with "Blink", but it doesn't work with Gingerbread... It was about two times faster!
What about Handcent? I know you can adjust the blink rate on notifications as a whole or per contact...
I was looking for a way to control LED colors. Thanks for the tip in LightFlow. Just set it up and it works great! Now when I see green I know what the notification is versus before it could be anything.

It works quite well yes... but you may want to watch out for battery drain since it tends to cause partial wakelocks... just observe for a few days... if your still happy with battery no need to worry... if its draining... you know what's causing it...

Never used blink so wouldn't know... and well... I highly doubt the led will burn out... they tend to have very long lives... if it burns I would prob say just really bad luck... its not a bulb afterall, its a LED... Not to mention the BLN app which is used on the galaxy s and galaxy s2 for the backlight leds of the softkeys to come on for notifications is based off that due to lack of any actual notification LED...
But its your call... I would just say look around for if keeping those leds on constantly will cause any harm... if not... go for it...

[Q] What are you using for notifications due to no LED light?

After using a BlackBerry for years, I am really bothered by not having a LED notification light.
I have seen posts about noled and bln, but would like some opinions
I would like a recommendation for an non-rooted phone. I am also concerned about battery life.
Thanks in advance.
we could do what IOS5 does, they use the LED flash to let people know a notification is pending..
lol, could you imagine.. dark room, and you get a txt.. then all of a sudden your camera flash is lighting up the room,

None if you care about battery.
NoLED turns on the screen and I believe also inhibits deep sleep - it'll eat battery like crazy.
BLN isn't implemented for our phones yet - I tried porting a patch for the I9100 kernels but I screwed something up, if the notification light is on, the code holds a wakelock that prevents deep sleep. As a result, that BLN implementation ate battery too. I'm hoping to eventually get it working sanely, but it's much lower on my priorities list now.

I can say, that for me, this is a big deal. I almost switched to another carrier's S2 because of it. After reading the reviews, I'm glad I didn't.
This is a great phone. Battery was a concern, but after a few battery cycles and turning wifi off, it now kicks ass for such a powerful phone.
The LEd notification light would have made it the perfect phone...lol

Hopefully eventually we'll get BLN that's stable AND doesn't wakelock the phone - but I am thinking that right now the reason it's stable is because it isn't holding excessive wakelocks.

Since noled turns the screen on, but bln doesn't, and they both inhibit deep sleep, wouldn't even this flawed BLN implementation be better than NoLed for those who really need some sort of notification light?
Its weird how this phone needs a custom kernel for BLN. The Thrill I returned had an app in the market that worked for BLN, all it needed was root. It was sweet too: you could choose different blinking combos for different notifications.
I can't complain though, this phone more than makes up for that in so many other ways. Its just a matter of time before we have it. Plus this phone has the built in option to keep those on with the screen. I was so excited when I saw that.

Hmm... I'll consider it, user clue-factor and reading comprehension HAS been better than I expected based on my past experience with the Infuse. (I was expecting to have a bunch of overclock instability reports despite the giant red text, like a bunch of Infuse ROM devs had. But I haven't and as a result haven't had to yank OC from the kernel.
Maybe tomorrow... Too late for tonight's release, that's in testing.

I totally agree. I can see you posting this with a huge battery-drain warning in large bold type and then seeing post after post after post of people complaining about battery issues.... tough call, but I'd say it's probably worth posting if it is not too much work for you to compile a version with it enabled. Easy for me to say, of course! Thank you again for all of your amazing hard work!

Ive been using NoLED from the beginning and my battery life is outstanding. I guess results may vary.

Tips to get GREAT Battery life on the Rezound!

If you or anyone else wants to get PHENOMENAL battery life of let's say 15 hours of use and still have 40%-50% battery left on a regular stock battery on the Rezound, just follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings - Power - Power mode Choose "Economy"
2. Back at Power options, Click on "Economy mode setting" I left the setting as "Normal" which means that the only box that was unchecked was "Disable background data"
3. Back at Settings, Click on "Accounts & sync" Uncheck the "Auto-Sync" box, but leave the "Background data" box checked.
4. Using whatever Screen Brightness tool you want to, set the screen brightness to no more than 20%. The only exception to this is if you are out in the sun and really need to see your screen while in the sun (navigation or etc...). Other than that, I never need it to be brighter than 20%.
5. Because of these changes, you will have to manually "Refresh" your email app to check for new mail. Other than that, everything data wise should work as normal.
I always have my 4G LTE and GPS on and ever since I did this, I have been getting RIDICULOUS battery life! This best it has been is when I charged it completely and unplugged it at 10pm and the next day around 1pm I still had 62% battery left. On a normal basis where I take it off the charger at 8am, with normal use (3 hrs of music, 1 or 2 of web surfing and video watching, 1 hour of phone calls, and Google Talk and Google Voice and GMail all day *literally*) I have about 50% battery left at 7pm.
Disclaimer: I have "Bump Charged" my battery before making these changes. However, I never saw this type of battery life until I made the above changes. Also, if you constantly watch video (Youtube or etc..) you will not see quite this performance, but it will still be much better than what you are currently experiencing.
Enjoy
Turn off data and you can get multiple days on battery
Screen Filter
You can also use the app Screen Filter to turn off the bottom row of leds.

So you have an extended battery then? If so, might be good to include that info in your post just to be clear. Not that that wouldn't help any battery, but the stats will make more sense and the answers to your poll may be more accurate since people might think their results aren't as good as yours if they're using a regular battery.
I'll change my settings and try it since I don't need instant notification of emails atm. Thanks for the tip.

You can bump charge the normal battery as well.
So what exactly do the power modes do? Are they just presets for certain settings? or do they control CPU scaling or anything else? I've always just left mine on normal with auto sleep enabled
Edit: I also wonder what affect the "auto start task manager on startup" option does exactly, and if having that on improves battery life, or if it is referring to the task manager in the notification bar quick settings

I used that app for quite sometime on my Incredible when I ran a sense rom (cm7 allowed me to set the buttons leds off on its own).
Fyi though, when screen filter is active, I am unable to install an app. When you go to install an app, and you are on the screen that shows the permissions with the install button on the lower right, I have been unable to click the install button with screen filter running. I just run screen filter again to deactivate it and the install goes fine, then I just run screen filter again to get it running again.
It's a hassle, but a small price to pay to get those led's off if you dont want / need them.

Wipe battery stats every day?

I'm thinking of making a script to reset my battery stats every morning when my phone is at 100%. I understand most of you won't believe this will extend battery life, but it has worked for me time and time again. After a couple days my overall battery life appears to shorten until the stats are reset. I believe this is because it resets the voltage threshold where the phone says to turn itself off. This is controlled by software because if the lithium ion battery gets too low then it is unable to recharge itself and will be damaged.
I am seeking advice on making a script. Can this be done with an app?

I think you're wasting your time. Wiping battery stats does absolutely nothing. One of googles own developers said wiping stats is a myth. Its all placebo
---------- Post added at 02:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:36 PM ----------
didnt want ya thinking i was making stuff up, so here ya go. just for reference, shes an android framework engineer. if you dont believe what she says, well then, i dont know what to tell ya
Dianne Hackborn - 6:42 PM - Public Today's myth debunking:
"The battery indicator in the status/notification bar is a reflection of the batterystats.bin file in the data/system/directory."
No, it does not.
This file is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings.
That is, it has deeply significant things like "app X held a wake lock for 2 minutes" and "the screen was on at 60% brightness for 10 minutes."
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
Deleting it is not going to do anything to make your more device more fantastic and wonderful... well, unless you have some deep hatred for seeing anything shown in the battery usage UI. And anyway, it is reset every time you unplug from power with a relatively full charge (thus why the battery usage UI data resets at that point), so this would be a much easier way to make it for away.

I get it. Some/most don't believe that wiping battery stats extends your battery life. I really do understand that it makes no sense. The only thing I know is that on the days that I wipe my battery stats, the battery lasts longer and I can be on my phone more without terrible battery drain.
I don't care why this happens or gives me the perception of it happening. I will happily be wrong and ignorant and enjoy my phone more. I just want to figure out how to make a script that resets when I hit 100% in the morning after charging.
How can I make a script that is either triggered by time or battery percent? I looked into Init.d, but that seems to only work on startup.
Thanks for the responses.

To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.
