my Galaxy tab 16gb wifi will be here anyday now im new to android all together but done some reading. so that said i just want to be brief and make sure im correct on what im going to do as i will be doing all this rite out of box from stock 3.1
Im going to root using the guide. then from there i want to back up my stock 3.1 so i can restore to stock if needed later correct using cwm? Then im in the clear to flash Galaxy Task 10?
Thanks from the great white north !
1.Flash CWM using Odin
2.Take a Android backup in CWM. So you will get a stock unrooted Rom back up.
3.Apply the root.zip in CWM.
If you are going to flash Galaxy Task, then no need of step 3 as the Rom is already rooted.

I have looked and read, looked and read and I was unable to find an answer to my question that I have about flashing a custom rom on my rooted vibrant 2.2 KA6.
Everything that I have read says to Odin back to 2.1 and then use superoneclick. However I did follow the tutorial to root my vibrant running Froyo 2.2 KA6 with success after replacing the data cable for my computer to recognize my Vibrant. I have confirmed that I have root, I have tried the root apps and everything is good to go.
My question is can I flash a custom rom on my rooted Vibrant on Froyo 2.2 KA6. I want to flash Trigger 3.2 because I have heard awesome reviews about it. I already have a nandroid backup and a custom backup. Is there anything that I need or need to do before I proceed? I have been reading the tutorials and the flashing guides and I'm ready to go, I just want to be sure I can flash on rooted stock KA6.-Thanks
Sorry if this has been answered already I was unable to find the thread.
Ummmmmm im not sure but since u have froyo in your phone u just need to root your phone and then install the custom rom you want... i'd suggest u to flash trigger and for you to root ypur phone you'd need tp download AIO VIBRANT TOOL BAR.. if you're using a computer you should see it at the very top on the APPS AND THEMES section omce you download it run the program and once the tool bar appears.. theres goin to be alot of options...they are in order so you wont get confused so in this case you'd need to go to step #5 i think wich is ROOTE YOUR PHONE im not sure what it really says but it says something about rooting your phone BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR FONE IN DEBUGGING MODE and once you do it its goin to take you to the android recovery menu and in the tool bar it shows u the steps... if you need more help and i'll guide you....

Just use z4root, then get rom manager, install cwm and flash away

Since you're rooted, all you need is to get into clockwork recovery and flash the rom. Have you downloaded rom manager and installed cwm?
I just rooted yesterday for the first time. I was on t mob stock KB5 . I used Odin to go back to stock Eclair , and than downloaded update.zip and used Astro File Manager from market to move the update.zip to sdcard. Than I flashed TRIGGER 3.2 and it is all good . I feel like I discoverd America.
My point is that you need CLEAN INSTALL, if you wanna run Trigger smooth..
Lagunas11, DEFINITIONOFREAL, thanks for the info but I already have root and Im ready to flash. I just wanted to be sure that I could flash a custom rom over rooted stock froyo 2.2 KA6.
jRiot68 yes I already have rom manager and cwm installed, I already have a custom backup and Im ready to flash, what I meant by my question was if I could flash over my rooted 2.2 KA6. Im ready to flash trigger 3.2! Thanks for answering my question.
Roundel77 are u sure I have to odin I was hoping I didnt have to will trigger not run right if I dont?
I want to flash trigger tonite! If I have to odin can I stay on root froyo 2.2 KA 6 and odin or do I need to unroot then odin back to 2.1 then root so I can flash?I would like to know so I can flash tonite thanks.

If you can run CWM, then you can flash.
no odin needed.
Although I'm not sure how you can use it since the 3e recovery won't let you unpack the update.zip file.
If not, then you have to odin.
laylovj cwm has been working flawlessly I know what you mean about the 3e however the tutorial I followed allowed me to root froyo 2.2 KA6 and it also allowed me to modify the 3e to 2e. I am able to run cwm and have been able create a nandroid backup. So thank you for the response I will be flashing trigger 3.2 tonight. I will report the results later.

Just reporting back to inform you guys that I flashed trigger 3.2 last night and everything worked perfectly! I should have done this a long time ago! Trigger is working very well no problems to report.
I now want to flash some themes any suggestions? I really like the splash of color theme but was unable to determine wether or not it is capitiable with trigger 3.2. I also want to flash a new kernel so that I can overclock where can I get one for froyo 2.2?
U might wanna try the new bullet kernel it should go hand in hand with trigger I don't have a thread but just type bullet. It'll come up. It works great with my 2.2 froyo kb1 on skriller. An it runs real. stable at 1.42ghz. Proper oc values r shown with the bullet thread. Its good procedure to follow but amazing results on speed tests! !!!!!!!!
Glad everything worked well with Trigger flash . Maybe wanna try this theme: THEME] Vibrant HD v1.3- Trigger/Bionix-V
Thanks antdogg I'm researching now I will be flashing tonite or tomorrow. Will posting the results later tomorrow.
roundel77 thanks for the suggestion I will be looking into that tonight I will post results later tomorrow.
likely same here

go to samfirmware.com and download the rom for your phone.
Then use odin to install it on your phone

I recommend to flash a stock/official ROM to your phone.
Then root will be lost.
You can download Official ROMs from SamMobile, but you will need to register before.
Or you can have a look into Intratech's Offical Firmware thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Please read his first post carefully.
Then decide which ROM to flash.
As you want to bring it back to "normal", you should use a ROM from the second post "Official Firmwares".
Just flash the ROM using Odin - like described by Intratech.
Nothing special.
Maybe you want to wipe everything to go back to factory settings.
Then you should do a hard reset after flashing by dialing *2767*3855# into your phone's dial pad.
But you can alternatively do a factory reset in recovery mode - also after flashing the stock ROM.
Good luck !
Hey mate thanks for the reply, i backed up my original rom using rom manager flashed back to it....but i still have root and i want to remove it. Can i just flash the insecure kernel and using super one click do the job???/.....NOTE I HAVE clock work mod recovery flashed already........
Hi guys.
First up hello. Im a refuge from the Ace section, have a Galaxy SII due for delivery over the next couple of days so Im moving over. On the Ace I flitted between CM7, CM10 unofficial, Lewa and a few others.
Im generally used to rooting via stock recovery and then using CWM to do everthing else, not familiar at all with ODIN as I have never needed to use it. Standard UK SII, unlocked running Gingerbread.
Have read around this section and will continue to do so for a few days, but a few starting pointers would be nice.
Rooting/CWM/Kernels
Whats the easiest way for rooting the SII, preferably from stock recovery
Whats the easiest way for installing CWM?
What the best basic Kernel out there, or Kernel that will do an AIO Root/CWM/Kernel job?
Im reading a lot about this hardbrick lark with ICS, is this purely an issue with stock ICS roms, and its fine to go down the CM10 route?
I can use the search feature, but as Im sure you know thats not always the most productive route.. Although I shall use it in the meantime.
Cheers.
You can learn a lot just by reading peoples problems, and the answers given.
For rooting, you would normally just flash like a siyahv4+ kernel with Odin.
That gives you root, cwm and safe from brickbug.
Theres several other ways also like exynos or doing stuff via recovery.

How have i avoided ODIN so long.. hmm, Siyah 4.
Do you know how cumbersome the search feature is here, finally found the download for v4.1.15 (and then realised it was in your signature), now im trying to find the instruction to install via ODIN,. If you happen to know offhand, the exact thread that would be appreciated.
Regarding roms, Im assuming CM10 is the standard, not familiar with any of the devs over on this side of the fence.
Ok, from what I can gather
Download Keis and make sure all drivers for the SII installed
Download Siyah-s2-v4.1.5
Disconnect your phone from your computer
Start ODIN
Click the PDA button, and select Siyah-s2-v4.1.5
Put phone in download mode
Connect the phone to computer
Make sure repartition is not checked
Click the start button
Wait for the phone to reboot
correct???
(sorry, i suffer anxiety, one of the side effects is double checking anything before doing it)
If your on ICS, you can download that siyah kernel, but make sure you get the .zip type.
Get the 1st and 3rd file in the ics rooting guide in my sig.
Stick them all on sd card.
Boot into recovery.
Flash the 1st file-which is temp cwm
Flash the 3rd file-which is su/busybox
Then flash the siyah file-which gives you permanent cwm and safe kernel.
Then reboot phone.
Then you are rooted, with cwm and safe kernel.
The easier way is obviously using odin.
Ps.hope you aint got the g model.

No, its not the G..
It is on gingerbread currently though, not ICS.
GB ffs......lol.
Right you can update to ICS (pain)
or
Set up Odin and flash siyah s2 v2.6.14.tar file
or
Try exynos abuse (may not work on GB).

I shall go S2 v2 route then. assumedly i can then just flash cm10 iwthout any problems.
Yes GB model, but no, not GT-I9100G
Youll need to check what the install instructions are for the rom
Eg if you need to be on GB or ICS.
Ive never used it, Ive just read you need cwm though.
If possible I would first update to ICS via Kies or OTA then afterwards flash Siyah v4 via ODIN. Once you have done this you are ready to reboot into cwm and flash away. Remember to wipe data/factory reset in CWM though after flashing Siyah kernel and before flashing new rom.

Ah, ive been reading on problems with ics and hardbrick, i guess that is prevented by flashing siyah post update.
Thanks guys, sorry for the noob questions, im not a noob, but rooting always makes me nervous (a hangover from the days when flashing the bios on the pc was a dangerous hit and miss affair), i just like to double check.
Once im rooted and got CWM im back in familiar territory.
Any other general tips on making the leap from Ace to SII appreciated.
Dont you just love it, when the phone arrives and its pre rooted with siyah and cwm
I rooted my GT-P7510 US tablet about 3 years ago, and I'm overdue for an update. I'm running 3.1, a custom kernel -Task650 and Phantom's "In Paris v4" P7510UEKME. It's kernel version 2.6.36.4. I would like some advice on which os are most happy with and I would like to understand the process of what I have to flash i.e downgrade in order to upgrade? back to stock? Will this erase my files? What about my apps?

I use Titanium Backup.. to back up my apps and their data... just remember that if you back up system data you can't restore it on any rom but the one you made it on... but apps/app data can be installed from rom to rom.
A lot of the new roms require you to have an ICS bootloader. Pershoot has one you can download and flash/install with Odin. If you need it.
You will need an updated recovery... I use Infamous TWRP... it's a touch based recovery and in my opinion the best for this device..
As for you're other files.. you will need to backup them up on you're computer if you use Odin because I think it will format/wipe you're sdcard. You can also take the Titanium backup you made and put it on you're computer. If you have any questions just ask and I'll try to help.. Good Luck..
So after I backup my data on the sdcard partition,
1)I just need to choose stock ICS or JB and flash via Odin? I've heard performance isn't all that great with JB.
2) Use TWRP to install custom recovery. Are the ROM's pre-rooted?
Is this guide still up to date? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1807219
Is the file for the ICS 4.0.4 still current for ICS?

If you have a custom recovery now.. you can install TWRP recovery ( I suggest.. Infamous Twrp ) in that custom recovery via a zip file. If you don't have a custom recovery we can work on getting you one. .But I seen that you are rooted and running a custom rom and kernel so I would assume you have a custom recovery,...probably cwm.. I can tell you how.. easy as pie. But I think you need to find out if you have an ICS Bootloader.. You will need this if you plan on flashing an updated rom..
Don't use that guide you linked.. that rom is for the 3g tab.. could work but why chance it..
Find out about the bootloader and get back to me... I will give you a link to my dropbox. I have a zip with all you need to get rooted/running ics/and recovery.. if we need to go that route. I'm hoping you have an ICS bootloader and cwm recovery already. It will be a simple series of steps to get you an up to date recovery and then a rom of you're choice.
If this isn't the case you might have to flash a bootloader with Odin on windows or if you have an ICS bootloader but no recovery you will need to flash a recovery in Odin.

Oh.. use a mention when you post so you don't have to reply my last post.. Plus this way I will still get a notification that you have posted. I'm in and out of 3 or 4 different device threads and can get side tracked with other people.. So doing this will ensure I see you're post fairly quick...

How to check for ICS bootloader
@lowpost99
Ok, I'm prepping for this right now while I wait to hear back from you. I'll take a backup with Titanium Backup, get any other files I want to keep off.
I have CWM 4.0.0.4, and I don't think I have an ICS bootloader as ICS wasn't out when I last rooted. How do you validate? I'm still up in the air about which rom to use, JB or ICS, so I'm still looking. But after reading the known issues for CM 10 8/25/13 at droidbasement.com it seems to read that the ICS bootloaders are only needed for the p4wifiUK, but doesn't mention p4wifi (GT-P7510) specifically. Is that meant to be inclusive of any p4wifi or only the UK version of the hardware. My 10.1 is a US model. Do I just need I need to use ODIN 1.85 to flash an updated recovery and the new CM10? Or are you certain that I'll need this ICS bootloader as well. Also before flash the new recovery, shouldn't I do a factory reset to just clean things up? I should be able to restore the apps with TB and get any other files back from my PC. Your opinion and advice are appreciated.
I had the most stable experience with pershoots cm 10.1 roms. If you are using the cwm recovery he compiles, you can even use the autoupdate feature of the official cm roms.
At the moment I am using an early version of 10.2 because the 10.1 rom had issues with the stock keyboard closing all the time on my P4.

Thanks Gil81, I needed a couple days to get things done, (broken ankle) and ended up with this ROM:

JB 4.3 with CM10.2. and gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip. I've run into an issue with launching Titanium Backup now. I downloaded it from the play store, and the setting say to auto-create icons, but there's no icon to be found. It shows installed, and I've disabled HALO as well. I don't know how to manually place an icon on the home screens, because it doesen't appear in the app drawer. It must be my un-familiarity with ICS/JB vs HC. Any help is appreciated... I would like to restore my apps!
editroblemsolved I only hadthe key and not the full app...
