Also I deleted all files from the folder from system/etc/customization/applications.. the phone was working fine till now but now when I rebooted the phone the phone doesnt power on and is stuck in boot loop (at sony ericsson logo)
Request you if some one can provide me with the link to the stock rom as I dont want to unlock the bootloader.

Requirements
Xperia Ray [ST18i] - Unlocked Bootloader
Drivers for Windows - Install PC Companion
[Only for Android 4.0.3] KERNEL from this Link | I use this .img file
Updated to Last Firmware Version from OTA
After Install Update from OTA, you must Unlock you Bootloader.
Tested!
Model Number: ST18i
Android Version: 2.3.4 & 4.0.3
Baseband Version: XXXXX-XXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-64 & XXXXX-XXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-70
Build Number: 4.0.2.A.0.62 & 4.1.A.0.562
How to Install Root
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
Enter device in fastboot mode. Turn off phone, hold volume up while you connect the USB cable to computer
Download the recoverRAY.img, you will get a zip file, extract it.
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
Place the recoveryRAy.img inside the folder
Open command line in this folder
Test if it recognize your device, to do this type fastboot devices, if there is a result here proceed.
Now here's the tricky part, to enter a temporary recovery type fastboot boot recoveryRAY.img
*Notice that we didn't use fastboot flash boot ****.img here because as bin4ry said this recovery is designed to work just as recovery, if you flash it to your device it will NOT boot system anymore! This is just a temporary recovery for you so be careful not to flash it.
Now wait and your phone will reboot, you will see the FREE XPERIA splash screen and your device will now enter temp CWM recovery
On your phone choose install custom zip, locate the rootxperia.zip you added earlier in your SD card and flash it.
Reboot, your device is now rooted.

Your tutorial is a bit familiar LOL
As a newbe: some extra questions
You explain clear & idiot-proof, until I came along...
So as a newbe I have a few extra questions.
1. I have a new Xperia Ray 4.0.2.A.0.62 / 2.3.4 / ST18i out of the box. You mention OTA - update is recommended, as I already have 4.0.2.A.0.62; is that ok?
2. You mention You must unlock your bootloader, do you mean go to the offical Sony-Ericsson site and unlock bootloader the "official way"? (I have done this)
3. Which Flashtool, do you mean in point 4? And where can I find it/ download this flashtool?
4. After Unlocking the bootloader & Rooting my xperia ray, I believe I can remove bloatware like (wisepilot-trial, tetris-demo, facebook, topapps, etc.). But: what do I do to remove an app? Do I simply remove \system\apps\chinesetextinput.apk or do I have to uninstall it somehow like a computerprogram?
5. After rooting the system directory continues accessible? Is there a way to protect it again, after the removal of the bloatware? (my goal is just to remove the bloatware)
I hope my questions are not to dumb? With my first smartphone just for a couple of weeks I am a real newbe.

Rooted
@Vagrik:
Tried it, done it, and got rid of facebook!. With "bloatware" I meant all the unwanted (cr)apps. Offcourse: chinese is gone too. Thanx.
@others:
I used the root, I had to try & see, a little bit of knowledge about ancient msdos helpt me.
First I was confused about placing the zip on the sdcard & the fastboot on my computer, but step by step it just worked out fine.
So I did use the step by step tutorial, including Fastboot, CWM, after that superuser & titanium backup. With titanium backup you can backup all apps; and uninstall the (cr)apps one by one. (I am glad I made a backup first...).
In the end: rooting was easier than the login at this forum... !!! I must have tried a hundred times to finally place this message!
Got one question left: does anyone know the apps connected to "latitude","places", "navigation"; it seems all google; but which apps exactly ?
When u install maps; places, latitude and navigation get installed along with maps
Hello, the tutorial is great but I have may questions.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
there's two folders in the rootxperia.zip do I unzip the contents of rootxperia.zip in to my sd card or just place the rooxperia.zip in to sd card?
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
You mean create folder in flashtool folder? could you explain in detail this part?

- Reflash your phone with current firmware using Sony Update Service
- Copy the blobs Update Service caches from the update to local directory
- Use Flashtool to decrypt and recreate the tft from the blobs
- Unzip the ftf and unpack the boot image together with to kernel
- Edit /default.prop and set ro.secure=0
- Repack the root initramfs file system
- Create a new boot image with the root filesystem and the kernel
- Unlock the boot loader
- fastboot the new image (no need to flash it)
- "adb shell" to the phone, you are now the root user
- remount /system read-write
- add busybox, su and whatever you like
Check www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB77gWRUI_A for details about getting your original image.

Ah, strange. Update Service is supposed to reinstall the same version already installed. Maybe Sony not yet updated their servers.
Still I believe you can work around this. The nice thing about Sony Xperia is that when you unlock its bootloader, you can boot your phone over usb using fastboot without having to flash the image. I.e. a single one-time-boot of your image, without any permanent modifications of your phone.
This means you can always try booting another boot image than the original. It don't have to work perfect, just brining the devices up so you can access it via usb and "adb shell". It need to use the same disk devices (mount right partition at right mount point), so try using a image from another Xperia and hope for the best. You can check the mount points using the command "mount" in the shell, compare with the mount points of some other Xperia you can get the ROMs to.
So download a Xperia ROM from XDA, edit ro.secure=0, recompile the boot image again and try fastboot the phone (do not flash it!). If it boots, don't care if everything things isn't working properly, just transfer su and busybox to /system/bin and then halt and restart the phone - this time from the internal flash (= original image), and you got the phone using its original image, but with the su and busybox you need to become root.
Again - do not flash your image, only boot the phone with it. If you flash it, and don't got the original image to restore back, your phone is bricked.
Problem solved.
I have downloaded firmware from Sony ...link will be soon ... but i have problem with rooting system, Please, can somebody help me with them?

Hi guys,
I created ftf from blobs and unzip ftf.
I used Nero Young guide to make custom rom (kernel), but when I need to add boot.img to my kitchen folder, I can't find it.
I tried to follow this guide http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/2011/05/06/how-to-build-a-linux-kernel/, but without success. I also try SIN2IMG, mkbootimg... but nothing
Can someone tell me another way to make boot.img, or upload boot.img for ST27i.

Ok i need some suggestions.
i have an unlock-able boot loader but have rooted.
out of boredom i figured i would change my fonts and copied them with file explorer, made sure permissions were set to rw-r-r.
now im stuck in a boot loop, i'm guesing it's because i'm on a stock ics rom.
my hardware is xperia s, rogers is my carrier, i'm rooted running ics.
is my fear of having to reinstall true? or is there another way to fix this?
thanks

Adb = fastboot=anytime..but Fastboot method? If you re-flash then you will loose your root access but you can always gain it back. You just need to download the kernel (ICS/GB have different kernel) then flash it through fastboot. Though, if you want to keep ur stock kernel a.k.a ICS/GB kernel then u can do it too. Just let us know which one you want to do and we can guide u through :highfive:

U dont need to go over GB to get ICS!! u can just flash ICS and root it . Am using 6.1.A.2.45 Generic NL stock firmware with custom KA v6 kernel and both of them are working pretty nicely without any hitch so far. Anywayz, heres what you do if you have an unlocked bootloader. Dial *#*#7378423#*#* to check your Bootloader status
Flash Firmware:
#Download stock ICS Firmware from here as an ftf.zip file. (I recommend 6.1.A.2.45 Generic NL)
#Downlaod and install latest Flashtool, unzip the ftf file and save the ftf file over at the 'firmware' folder in Flashtool.
#Connect your phone via usb to pc and let flashtool recongnize it
#Click the Thunder button in flashtool and choose Flashmode.
#Choose the ftf file. Dont click or touch anything else. Hit OK
#The flashtool will ask you to disconnect your phone.
#Disconnect your phone from usb. Turn it off.
#Hold down Power+Volume Down and connect the phone via usb to the pc. Green led (flashmode) will light up.
#Flashtool will automatically start flashing the new firmware.
#After finished flashing the firmware. Take it off from the usb and Reboot.
#Let our phone boot then go to Settings>Developer Options>tick right USB debugging (MUST)

#Unzip the kernel folder (xsspeed or advanced kernel) that you have downloaded. Copy the kernel.elf file.
#Unzip and open the FASTBOOT BINARY folder. Go to 'fastboot' folder and paste the kernel.elf file
#Turn of your phone.
#Press Power Button+Volume UP Key and connect your phone via usb to your pc. BLUE led will light up (fastboot mode)
#The fastboot folder opened. Click 'SHIFT+RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON'
#Choose 'OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE' and you will get windows command prompt.

#Now flash the kernel
Code:
fastboot flash boot kernel.elf
#Now reboot from fastboot mode
Code:

#Click the Thunder button and choose FASTBOOT
#Click 'Select Kernel To Flash'
#Choose the kernel.sin file that you have extracted earlier from the ftf file and saved earlier in your desktop.

thanks for the guide.
now i'm back to ics and running Xcream (cool), with cwm & root. But without an unlocked boot-loader no extra tweaks for me. damn you rogers for locking my boot-loader.
so maybe you can help with a question. i have made a few themes for my older phones xperia x10, xperia play, htc raider, htc evo 3d. and really want to do the same for my xperia s.
now i have been reading and have the latest apk tool with the updates of apk tool jar and the aapt.exe.
i still can't recompile systemui.apk. and from what i'm reading you can't touch the framework res. now i'm use to using adb to push all my files to my phone.
so as the thread title said i was trying to change the font. and this caused a bootloop.
do you know of a guide or list of things we can tweak?
thanks

[Q] [Need Help][Urgent] Problem with Phone and Busybox/xRecovery

Okay, I have a big problem with my phone, I decided to redo the operating system to a new version/ROM because the one i was using on it before several issues where coming up with it, 1: I Couldn't connect to other providers even though i had phone unlocked. 2: Some default programs where having problems starting.
So When doing a kernel upgrade my phone did not respond kept staying for 2 hours on the "SE" logo, and would not budge, so i decided to remake it, after about 4 hours i was able to get a OS on it, but this OS was older and out of date, when trying to go back to xRecovery it did not want to come up, i downloaded a Reboot to Recovery APK, which informed me that My "xRecovery" was not installed, which is weird because it was installed before.
I been trying to get the Default root method to install xRecovery which every time i ran the "Flash tools" program, it would not allow me to install xRecovery.
If anyone can contact me on skype "mradziwilko" to help me out, or post here ill be here checking on forum every min.
Thanks

Hi buddy, Have you tried to use ftf file like zahdi5h, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212260 to update?
You have to have unlocked boot loader and you can drag and drop the ftf into flash tool. Make sure you tick no final verification in flashtool or you will get error.
If that don't work then I suggest starting over with fresh 2.3.3.
Go back to stock using Sony Ericsson Update Service (seus) Use google or search threads for program.
Then just re-do, unlock boot loader and install recovery again with flashtool.
Hopefully zahdi5h ftf file will get you out of trouble.

Hi mate is your boot loader unlocked? If not then unlock it with flashtool. Try Version 0.9.10.1 of flashtool. Work's for me.

You wiped everything and now there is no rom installed so its not going past the sony logo. You have two options.
1. Unlock bootloader if you want to run a custom rom.
2. Flash stock rom to go back to stock.
and how to flash stock rom , you need to have the flashtool , put your phone in donwloadmode ( volumne down + plug in the usb cable ) and then flash the stock rom of sony ( you can find the method on how to do it on google ) its simple and then you decide out of 2 options above from last post
Since your bootloader isn't unlocked your can use Sony Companion Software to repair your phone. When you click update there is a repair option. Select repair and hook up the phone in flashmode. Make sure your ZU is atleast 50% charged.

can you flash the stock rom again and copy paste the log here in a code quote like this one:
Code:
write here
And what is your model? C6833 etc..
What stock rom did you download?
Which drivers did you use?
And which version of flashtool did you use?
And lastly what settings did you use when flashing the stock rom? All options included so ALL partitions being flashed. And none excluded.
Screenshots is always good help .
