I have a couple of questions regarding the Gallery on ICS and Honeycomb syncing to Picasa/Google+
1) On my Tab 10.1 (Honeycomb) I get hundreds of 'albums' which are dates, I assume they're instant uploads from Google+. How can I stop these showing in the Gallery app?
2) On my Galaxy Nexus (ICS) things are a lot neater, but I still have 'Instant Upload' and 'Posts - username' along with seperate folders for any pictures I posted in Google + Messenger (Huddles), which I apparently can't delete.
It isn't an option to turn of Picasa sync, as that's how I organise my photo's.
Any ideas?
Settings > Applications and Sync > [your Google Account] > Sync Picasa Web Albums. Uncheck the box.

Sorry; Read that exact same sentence wrong. Thats to get them to stop showing in the Gallery app on your Tab. Kinda unsure on what you're asking for the rest.
So there are albums I create 'Christmas 2011' for example, I want to see (from Picasa). There are albums Google+ creates (instant uploads, pictures from huddles etc) that I don't want to see...

Is it only me or ...
With "Sync Google Photos" and Sync Picassa Web Albums" activated I still cant sync my camera pictures with google+....
And the only way to make it work is to install Google+ app but then you can see picture twice in Gallery ... (one under camera pictures and the other under Instant upload folder....)
Help would be really appreciated....
What I did so far :
reset phone settings,
wipe dalvik
tried to sync with another account
tried over wifi
Sync report ok.... I have no clue !!!!
Thats how mine is. I just delete the camera photos after they sync.
Google + just uses the instant upload to put them in your private web folder. Having the sync enabled allows the phone to download those photos from your web albums and allows you to manually upload when you want. I dont think its for auto uploading like google +

So basically you mean that there is no way to sync camera photos without using Google+ app ?
I thought I could with my previous Galaxy Note... I dont understand what the "Sync Google photo" is for then....

As far as I know, not automatically. You can always go to the gallery, hold the camera folder and sync the whole album manually to wherever you want.
the link is broken on the google support site, but it use to read this:
Android 4.0 devices have a system setting that allows you to Sync Google Photos.
This setting enables syncing of your Google Photos from your web albums to your device's Gallery app. As a result, if you have a large number of photos in your web albums that have been uploaded through Picasa Web Albums or Google+, you may notice a high amount of battery or data usage during this sync.
This setting also enables or disables sync for Instant Uploads to Google+. However, to enable Instant Upload, you must enable Sync Google Photos as well as enable Instant Upload within the Google+ app

I am having trouble with background data usage from the 'Gallery' app. I think it is related to videos uploading when I'm off of wifi. In settings / accounts / gmail - I had instant upload on, and then in G+ I had to sync photos and videos only when on wifi and only when charging, but it's still using network data to background sync... and I have droidwall installed and 'gallery' is not one of the apps I white listed for network data.
Any ideas? for now I turned off background data since it didn't seem to affect any regular use of the phone and it does block the gallery app. Seems like there are quite a few options in the gmail accounts as far as photos go so not sure what they all do or what I should bother with. I do know that on my SGS, SGS2 this background usage wasn't happening and I had things setup then like I do now.
UPDATE: CONFIRMED. CLEARING DATA (Settings -> Apps -> All -> Picasa -> Clear Data) DOES NOT DELETE ANY OTHER PICTURES ON YOUR INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL SD. = SAFE. IT JUST GETS RID OF PICASA ALBUM.
*** Also make sure you un-sync Picasa albums or it'll obviously come back. ***
When you initially sync your gmail account (from the very very beginning when you first get the phone) there's no option to select what to sync and what not to sync...
So although I go to "Settings" -> "Accounts and Sync" to un-check the albums, it (Picasa) still shows up in my Gallery...
How do I get rid of Picasa albums from showing up in my gallery?

Go into the list of apps and clear data from Gallery.
If you have sync turned off, it won't come back into your Gallery.
I just tried it now. Warning though, I do not have Google+ set up on my phone, which may or may not do some funny things to your Gallery.

^This + reboot.
Thanks for the reply.
By clearing the data it'll rid all the pics including the non Picasa ones....
Do you know how to just delete the Picasa albums?

u have to remove google+
Clearing data from the Gallery does not clear all pics off your phone. I have my pics safely stored on the SD card.
I got a Galaxy S3 (International Edition) just yesterday
I enabled it to pull stuff from my google accounts, but then when I'm going to open the contacts, I see a bunch of my gmail contacts
How can I remove those from the phone? Selecting to display 'only contacts with phones' seems to fix it, but the email contacts are still available to be seen if one goes to settings and sets to display all contacts again
The same happens with the gallery application, it has like one album for each image I've ever published in Google+, I can set it to display only images from the phone, but then this is not a permanent setting, everytime I exit the Gallery app and re-enter it, it will display all the images from G+ (and I've heard that it will scan the microSD at launch for images, so it will become a clutter of every possible image it can find in the SD)
I have now disabled the sync of google contacts / g+ stuff to the phone, from settings -> accounts and sync -> uncheck sync google photos/google+/picasa web albums/contacts, so it doesn't pull down new stuff anymore, but the old stuff is still there
Is there any way to remove that?
Is there a good gallery app that will not scan the whole SD for media, nor will pull stuff from picasa/google+?
Thanks!
quick pic is the gallery app for you, you can select which folders to see, or just long press a folder and hit exclude

Now just delete local files and you should be fine.
If you have a lot of them I would suggest to use File Browser such as ASTRO.
I think i'm toast but would like to confirm before giving up:
SPECS:
Google Galaxy Nexus phone
UNrooted
Jellybean 4.1.2
I accidentally deleted an entire album of photos instead of just one photo.
I look in SETTINGS >> ACCOUNTS and list two:
'me'@gmail.com
'me'@yahoo.com
The gmail account has NO syncing set up... the Yahoo account appears to be set to sync everything. (although it's possible i just turned this on when i discovered my previous mistake, as i was in such a panic i can't remember anymore, but there are times for other items synced earlier than today which leads me to believe it may have been set to sync all along)
I went to google.com/dashboard for the [email protected] account and there is a link to a gallery, but when i go to the link it states that the gallery has no public albums.
Is my album recoverable at all or is this just a lesson learned which will hopefully save me from a future disaster?
Thank you.

Have you tried to change your partage option? Set the albums at public, or something like that?
And when you are in the gallery, there is the mesage saying the gallery has no public albums, but can you connect you at this moment for see private albums?

I don't see anything to change the setting from 'private' --> 'public', but no, i can't see any of the albums when logged in as myself.
As well, if i go to GOOGLE >> SETTINGS >> Export Data and try to 'Download your Picasa Web Albums photos' it shows 0 files, 0B.
If you could direct me to the correct settings i'll give it a try (but i guess it's not looking too good at the moment).
Thanks.

You speak about download Picasa Web Albums in Google, but is there the same option for Yahoo Gallery? For example, in settings of your Yahoo account, can you download your photos?

Just download this from play store to recover deleted files, IF they had not been overwritten

i know there are apps, best one?

I haven't actually tried any of these ideas, but I think one might help, and they're pretty low risk:
Method 1: Toggle Facebook Sync
In Facebook app, settings, Other Settings, Contacts Sync, change setting from 'Sync all' or 'Sync with Existing Contacts' to 'Remove Facebook Data'
Hit the 'Sync/Done' button at top-right
Check your contacts and verify that photos/links have been removed
Return to FB app, same place, change setting back to 'Sync All' or 'Sync with Existing Contacts'
Method 2: Delete Contacts and Re-sync
If Method 1 doesn't work, try this. This method assumes that your contacts exist only in the cloud (e.g., on gmail, exchange server, etc.) and not locally, and thus can be re-synched easily. IF YOU HAVE ANY LOCAL CONTACTS THIS WILL DELETE THEM.
- Follow steps 1 and 2 above
- Exit the Facebook app
- Go to System Settings-> More -> Application Manager, swipe right until you see 'All'
- Scroll down to Contacts Storage and click on it
- Click on <Clear Data> and <Clear Cache>
- At this point, I'd reboot the device
- After re-boot, your contacts should re-sync from outside sources, (if they don't, go to System Settings-> Accounts and click on the account where your contacts are (e.g., Google) and the account name and it should sync)
- Follow Step 4 in Method 1 above
I found that you have to edit the contacts. If you have them attached to a gmail or outlook account then they default to that picture. I've had to edit a lot of my contacts bc of this.

I use the Sync.ME app. It downloads hi-res Facebook pictures and you can set it to run automatically on a regular basis.
Ubersync in app store works awesomely
Haxsync can solve this as well.

+1 for Ubersync. Works great, except I wish it didn't create an "Ubersync" account in my phone, but other than that, works great.
