I don't understand why and how it does it. When i'm at work, i use to listen to music using the E3D. most of the time i place the phone beside the laptop but there are times that i put in front of me. Now if my phone touches the laptop, the laptop goes to sleep.
i can easily replicate it by tapping the e3d to the laptop's base close to the touchpad. I have a dell d630.
i'm curious as to why it occurs.
That is extremely peculiar. -_- I would love to know the reason behind this also.

The exact same happens when I place my EVO 3D.
(See picture.. of course...)
My laptop goes into sleep mode. (MacBook Pro Early 2011.)
interesting, just tried on my asus g74sx with no luck
No action with my HP laptop.
That's Weird as the issue I have a Tablet and my 3D... Well correction mine isn't really a problem but when I put my phone on my nightstand sometimes I sit it on top of my tablet which often turns the tablets screen On! Don't know why but maybe it could be a Related type issue?
here's a video i took this afternoon while i was in the office:

Sounds like the speaker magnet in the phone is probably triggering a reed switch in the laptop. A similar magnet is mounted in the laptop's lid, so when you put the phone there, the laptop thinks the lid is closed. Not sure about the Mac, but Windows has options under the power settings to change the close lid actions.

This might seem a silly question seeing as android development is still at the drawing board, but i was wondering if the touchstone wireless charging dock would still work under a android os not sure if the battery itself has some sort of technology that detects the dock or its some sort of webos software that keeps tabs on it?
I'm more concerned with the keyboard working....

IMHO, the inductive charging is independant of the OS.
Considering the tablet can be charged inductively when powered off, this indicates hardware isolation. So, webOS or Android or Win8... the circuitry is in place to support inductive charging.
If anyone has information to indicate otherwise, i'm all ears (or eyes, as it would be)

That stinks. I'm glad I held off so far from getting one. Reviewers on Amazon said it works on Windows (aside from missing usual PC keys). I was hoping for NC support too. Oh well, I'll have to keep dreaming for a "universal" BT keyboard with a built-in touchpad then.

did you try it when it was fully power off(Holding the power button and selecting power off) or in standby(pressing the power button once)?
The keyboard works fine with windows, but couldn't get my android phone to see it

I did it with the power completely off, not just the display off.
Also wore the tablet down to the point where it wouldn't power on any longer. Put it on the touchstone and it it lit up with a battery (depleted) symbol and stayed lit up. It dimmed a bit after a short period of time but would not shut off even tho I tried to kill the display.
after about what felt like 10min, it booted on it's own and continued to charge - at least with it booted up I could turn the display off and go to sleep.
Unless palm (HP) went to the trouble of placing a switch in place that only enables the wireless receiver in the back of the touchpad on detection of WebOS installation... Id bet it will work just fine.
Side note, I could totally see apple doing just that someday... XD (I see you jailbroke your ipad... NO CHARGING FOR YOU!)

Did not see an answer to this, but I can confirm that it is working. It even does an 'Exhibition' mode where you get offered an app to launch when docked. Mine offered the built in clock as well as "TuneIn" radio.
I'm running ICS on mine.
I noticed that my NT seems to emit a faint "clicking" noise every few seconds when the tablet is on but in sleep mode.
Anybody else experiencing this?
Does not seem to happen while the screen is on, only when the screen is off. Also seems to disappear when WIFI is turned off.
Just wondering if somebody can check their NT and see if they hear the same thing... need reasonably quiet surroundings.
Now that you mention it, I have also noticed that. I believe I was running stock 1.4.1 at the time. Currently back on 1.4.0 and I haven't heard it...
Thanks for the info, I am on 1.4.1 myself (out of the box). I'll wait in hope for some more feedback and if it seems to be the case, I'll drop down to 1.4.0.
Haven't heard it but it could very likely be a B&N program that is running in the background. Perhaps it has something to do with the 1.4.1 update and the frequency of the wi-fi checking for updates?
Actually, I need to retract my earlier statement. I was just listening to music so I had my headphones in. Sure enough, when I kicked it into standby, the clicking came back.
Going back to 1.4.0 does not solve the issue.
My OTA timer is disabled...
So that makes two cases now... I am wondering if all NT's are doing this. I kinda PO'd I just got my Otterbox and spent great effort getting my screen protector on nearly perfect.
Never heard this before because my NT's speaker sat flat on whatever it was sleeping on. But the Otterbox elevates it, so I started hearing the clicking when it was sleeping on the table beside me.
If it's a common bug on all NT's... hopefully CM7 will resolve it!
Ok I am hearing it and it is not a constant click either its quite random for me. But I am not going to let it bother me at all to be honest.
I haven't heard anything like that with mine I'm running CM7 and i get a slight pop in my earphones when audio kicks in but nothing major.
Probably because CM7 has different WiFi settings... it's definitely tied to the WiFi. AdamOutler suggested tweaking the Wifi .INI file and it has made the clicks more apparent (it's the WiFi kicking in and out).
Hopefully he can find the way to get it to sleep properly... and thus save battery!
Rooted 1.40 and I have not noticed any clicks.
Bill
Bill, if you can try plugging in some headphones and then going into standby/sleep... the clicks are more pronounced through headphones.
I noticed the click as well, this also happens to my PC LG monitor and my LG Optimus 2x when using the headphones.

No, only when I press wake up button or when the sound stop/begins.
I'm not sure, but maybe it's the headphones? Too much coincidence to happen on 3 different devices here.
I user Razer Moray earphones, it has noise canceling something built in, maybe this is the culprit. I have other Philips earphones laying around, I'll test them on the tablet to see if this happens too.
Hi I am rooted...not running the CM7 yet...but I have noticed it when I have the the sound muted and I am playing words with friends. This was also doing it before I was rooted as well. I have not noticed it sleep mode. this only happens though for me when I have all sounds and notifications muted.

No clicks on sleep/standby mode under these conditions.
Either it's a problem on some NT's or not everybody has good ears.
hmm ok now I am not getting the clicking and I have not changed any of the settings or anything on the tablet. So I do not know how it vanished but it has for now.
Rooted 1.4.0 and I hear the clicking with either headphones or if I plug it into an external speaker.
So after my daily workout (watching "Breaking Bad" on the tablet) I managed to let my trusty 201 slip from my hands while taking it off the thin little ledge on my exercise bike console.
BAM, landed right on its corner on the bike's steel support bar.
Now it appears to be functional - except for the small point that the screen don't come on anymore.
Since I cleverly just put a "pattern" lock on it before maiming the poor thing, I can't get it unlocked reliably, but when I press the screenshot button on the keyboard it makes the shutter-click sound.
And I am getting notification bleeps when new mail comes in.
But I'm blind.
I have taken some steps in the past to open it, I did the Wifi antenna thing and tried to get the GPS working (bahahaha what a waste of time THAT was!)... and I've repaired a number of other phones and crap... so I'm not unskilled in this arena.
And I'm sort of optimistically hoping it's just a loose cable or something. There's only the smallest dent in the casing in the corner. No cracks in the screen or anything.
But has anyone gone down this road and maybe has some pointers as to what to look out for? Is there a backlight module that might have popped and just needs replacing?
I'm very sad, this little guy has been my stalwart companion for many, many moons...
Thanks for any input.

I have read some similar stories in the past and some times it has just been a cable that has dislodged inside.. Obviously this can vary but I would first try plugging in a hdmi cable to your TV and making sure that the graphics chip is still working.
I'd imagine it would be and your next step would be to open it up and start unplugging and replugging everything you can.

Well - this was a fantastic suggestion, since the HDMI gave me a perfect picture and the thing is (as thought) fully functional.
It was interesting trying to judge where to tap on the tablet to hit certain things on the screen, though.
This is actually quite a load off, since worst case I can get a new screen from ebay.
Thanks again, flumpster - I am much relieved, and you are a god among men!

So do my kids, who are going into "Minecraft PE" withdrawal at the moment.
Well, after popping the case, I've disconnected and reconnected everything available - no change in behavior.
I'll try unsticking the LCD and see what else is in there, but it's looking like a more aggressive repair will be in order.

Arright. Here's my logic. Tell me where I'm wrong.
The video works - the HDMI proved that.
The tablet works - ditto.
Being able to touch and use the tablet shows me that the digitizer is ok, too.
I've reseated all the connectors, but I still can't get a picture.
Therefore, it's the LCD that's gone bad.
Therefore I should order a new LCD.
Right?

Hmmm.. Sounds logical but it could be the power going to the screen or something else that connects the screen. Or does the power etc control the digitizer also ?

Well, there's one (and only one) ribbon cable feeding the LCD - and two going to the digitizer.
News, though - I pulled out the battery and found another ribbon cable tucked underneath to reseat.
After that, I put it back in and hooked up the LCD - and it came up!!
Sort of, anyway. It lit up enough to show me the spiderweb of cracks all along the bottom edge.
(I think I found my problem.)
Now off to eBay to shop for a replacement... I hope I didn't munge up anything else in there while I was mucking around!

See if someone is selling a bricked Tf201 of TF300 that you can get the screen out of.
I will have to trade it in if i cant find a solution for my issue
Basically i have only 2 issues with my phone
1) I keep my phone in my back pocket generally, but quite often when i pull it out of my pocket, the little door for the sim card/charger has popped open........ altho it makes me a bit scared to submerge it, i can live with this
2) This is the dealbreaker, if i cant solve this the z2 will be getting sold and something else will take its place. Again this only occurs in my pocket, but every single time i pull phone out, its changed the homescreen...... widgets either get added toor removed from homescreen, apps open and run, music player starts and stops by itself, notification bar quick settings icons get added or removed, flight mode gets activated, silent activated etc
I believe this is caused ny the screen reacting to metals, wood and lead, is therea way to turn this feature off so it will only work with my finger touching the screen?
As i said, its a fantastic phone and id like to keep it, but as long as it gonna keep doing these random things in my pocket then its just not worth keeping

Your flap is defective. Same thing happened to me. I've bought a new flap (for about 10€) and now it's fine.
Then, don't open your flap too often, prefer wireless file transfer and charging via magnetic port.

Crap..... glove mode is not switched on........ guess it gotta go up for sale then. Will be sad to see it go tho, n yeah already got magnetic charger n wireless connect.... ive only actually opened that door twice lol
Or another possibility, as im rooted, is there something i could remove/freezethat will stop the screen responding to other materials????
Not to my knowledge. It's strange, I often carry mine in my back pocket (screen facing inwards) and have never had the screen turn on. I can't say the same for my G3 which often turns the screen on.
Since it is isolated case and no one else expierenced this as far as i can tell its user error, you got dodgy apps or there is something wrong with the way you handle the phone.

Actually yesi do have that switched on..... even if that the cause tho, my work trousers arent made of wood, metal or lead so screen shouldnt be responding to my backside. I will turn it off n see how it goes tho, it might be the cause but then again you gotta be quite precise for that double tap t work anyway and my backside is tiny lol so maybe not........ great suggestion tho

Nice feature but think ill leave it off forever lol
Hi folks, I have a new Huawei Mate 20 Pro and it initially had the feature on that turns the screen on when you pick the phone up. That was fine, but I noticed they it kept turning the screen on when I put it in my car dash holder, so I turned this feature off.
However, whilst the screen no longer comes on when I pick the phone up off my desk, it does still come on twice, every time I put it in the car holder.
The car holder doesn't plug into the phone at all, it just holds the phone, nothing more. But he screen seems to turn on and instantly face unlock (or turn on already unlocked, is how it actually seems), so I turn the screen off and then it always happens a second time. After the second time of turning it off it doesn't seem to do it again the whole journey but does anybody have any idea why it does this and how I can prevent it from doing so? My old Samsung never did this, so it must be a Huawei thing.
The only thing I can think is they it could be linked to do with the phone connecting to the car's Bluetooth, but that doesn't explain why it does it twice each time, and I can't find any settings to stop it from turning the screen on when it connects.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
EMUI 9 has been buggy AF for me, I'd say this is just another bug and who knows if they'll ever fix it
The stand doesn't have any magnets?

Do you also get any new notification each time the screen turns on?
In that case maybe your phone (or an app) is configured to turn on the screen to show its notification.
Nope, no magnets. It's a passive Brodit car holder. Plastic and grips the sides of the phone.
No notifications either. I think it must be something related to the Bluetooth, as picking the phone up and jiggling it as if it was in the holder whilst the car is in motion doesn't cause the screen to come on either.

Did a bit more testing with this and found that the screen doesn't come on when I put it I the holder without Bluetooth enabled. So it seems to be connecting to my BMW's Bluetooth that is causing the screen to come on twice, every time I connect the phone to the car.
Usually just as I pull out of my driveway the screen comes on, so I hit the power button, then a few seconds later it comes on again. After that it doesn't come on again unless I receive a call.
Does anybody have any idea how I might stop it from doing this? The BMW iDrive display shows a signal indicator as soon as the phone is connected, so I have no need for the screen to turn on, but it bugs me.
I just want the phone to connect and keep the screen off like my Samsung phones always did...

Maybe try go to Settings - Notifications - Bluetooth and turn off everything and see if it does anything?
Thanks. I've turned off "turn on display" for all notifications anyway, but just went into the Bluetooth settings and unticked the one that puts a notification on the lock screen.
Let's see if that works.
It's annoying, because the Bluetooth also causes the phone to instantly unlock, or the face unlock works really quickly from my phone cradle.

Yeah, same. Doesn't unlock that quickly when it's right in front of my face!
I just need to find the setting to stop the car unlocking it. Perhaps that'll do it. I think the phone needs to be connected to the car to turn that off though.

Just did a quick test.
Turned off bluetooth
Wentout to van
Put phone in cradle
Sat in drivers seat
Hit power button
Instant face unlock.
Guess it works better if a bit further away from the face

I'm now getting in the habit of holding the M20P at arms length when picking it up

Haha, just makes you look an idiot to passers-by! I use the fingerprint reader a lot as well. It's also pretty quick.
