Hi folks, I have a new Huawei Mate 20 Pro and it initially had the feature on that turns the screen on when you pick the phone up. That was fine, but I noticed they it kept turning the screen on when I put it in my car dash holder, so I turned this feature off.
However, whilst the screen no longer comes on when I pick the phone up off my desk, it does still come on twice, every time I put it in the car holder.
The car holder doesn't plug into the phone at all, it just holds the phone, nothing more. But he screen seems to turn on and instantly face unlock (or turn on already unlocked, is how it actually seems), so I turn the screen off and then it always happens a second time. After the second time of turning it off it doesn't seem to do it again the whole journey but does anybody have any idea why it does this and how I can prevent it from doing so? My old Samsung never did this, so it must be a Huawei thing.
The only thing I can think is they it could be linked to do with the phone connecting to the car's Bluetooth, but that doesn't explain why it does it twice each time, and I can't find any settings to stop it from turning the screen on when it connects.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

EMUI 9 has been buggy AF for me, I'd say this is just another bug and who knows if they'll ever fix it

Do you also get any new notification each time the screen turns on?
In that case maybe your phone (or an app) is configured to turn on the screen to show its notification.
Nope, no magnets. It's a passive Brodit car holder. Plastic and grips the sides of the phone.
No notifications either. I think it must be something related to the Bluetooth, as picking the phone up and jiggling it as if it was in the holder whilst the car is in motion doesn't cause the screen to come on either.

Did a bit more testing with this and found that the screen doesn't come on when I put it I the holder without Bluetooth enabled. So it seems to be connecting to my BMW's Bluetooth that is causing the screen to come on twice, every time I connect the phone to the car.
Usually just as I pull out of my driveway the screen comes on, so I hit the power button, then a few seconds later it comes on again. After that it doesn't come on again unless I receive a call.
Does anybody have any idea how I might stop it from doing this? The BMW iDrive display shows a signal indicator as soon as the phone is connected, so I have no need for the screen to turn on, but it bugs me.
I just want the phone to connect and keep the screen off like my Samsung phones always did...

Maybe try go to Settings - Notifications - Bluetooth and turn off everything and see if it does anything?
Thanks. I've turned off "turn on display" for all notifications anyway, but just went into the Bluetooth settings and unticked the one that puts a notification on the lock screen.
Let's see if that works.
It's annoying, because the Bluetooth also causes the phone to instantly unlock, or the face unlock works really quickly from my phone cradle.

I've noticed that as well,I cant decide if its unlocked when connected via Bluetooth ( I havent added the car stereo as a Smart source) or if it just face unlocks damned quickly

Yeah, same. Doesn't unlock that quickly when it's right in front of my face!
I just need to find the setting to stop the car unlocking it. Perhaps that'll do it. I think the phone needs to be connected to the car to turn that off though.

Just did a quick test.
Turned off bluetooth
Wentout to van
Put phone in cradle
Sat in drivers seat
Hit power button
Instant face unlock.
Guess it works better if a bit further away from the face

I have a Verizon HTC Thunderbolt and I regularly use the flip feature while on the phone to enable my speaker phone. I turn my phone face down on a flat surface and the speaker phone is automatically enabled. I reverse the process and the speaker phone is automatically disabled. Recently this feature stopped working and now when I put my phone face down the speaker phone no longer automatically starts. Can you please help me restore this feature?
Go into your sound settings and make sure "flip for speaker" is checked.
I confirmed that "Flip for Speaker" is checked. While Googling for a possible solution I encountered a recommendation to try gently dropping the phone, face down, on a soft surface, to "recalibrate its proximity", I tried that and it worked. My speaker phone now works again when I flip it over.
Could you be a little more specific about how you got it to work exactly because I haven't been able to get mine to work since day 1. Basically list the steps you did in order for you to get it working again. Thanks
I held my phone, face down, over the carpet, about 6 inches from the ground and deliberately dropped it. Then I picked it up, started a phone call, flipped my phone like normal and it automatically switched to speaker phone.
I did that and it stil didn't work. I had to start a call then drop it like you said and then the speaker turned on. After ending the call I called again to see if that fixed it but it still didn't work. In order for me to get it to work i have to drop it everytime I want the speaker to turn on?????
Troubleshooting steps:
1) hardware or software? Download "android sensor data" from the market. Observe the readings as you rotate your phone. If the readings don't move, your sensor is broken and you need a replacement.
2) if they do move, and accurately, its software. Google will yield ways to re-calibrate as well as how to enable the feature.

Ya, you don't have to drop the phone to get it to work. You can usually just "tap" the phone against your hand or shake the phone to get the sensors to get "unstuck".
I have a question for those with the issue. Are you using any kind of case with a magnetic clasp?
I know they say it doesn't affect the phones, but ever since I had a G1, I've never used any cases with magnets in them because they always seemed to mess up all the sensors.
Just something I've observed over the years.
I am using the seidio Convert 3-in-1 but i'm pretty sure there's no magnet in it.

I've had the exact same issue with mine since day 1 I got the phone. It has never worked with that feature and when I mentioned it to Verizon they had no answers. I'm glad someone brought this up so I could fix it as well!

You also have to remember that the flip feature also seems to use the prox sensor, so if you just "flip" the phone in the air, it will not activate the speakerphone. I can understand this, because let's say you are holding the phone in your watch hand and you flip the phone quickly to check the time. You would not want the phone to go to speaker for that.
It has to detect the "flip" and also that you flipped the phone against something (like a tabletop, etc).
I recalibrated my sensor by going to display then calibrate sensor. After that I made a call and the only time it actualy works is when you lay it down on a flat surface, but then when you go to pick it up the speaker turns off.. WTF.... The whole point of that is to be able to flip your phone and have the speaker turn on. Why even have it if you have to manually do it during a call anyway? Sounds like they didn't put a whole lot of thought into the functionality of the flip for speaker phone. I use my speaker all the time but what good is it to set your phone down to turn the speaker on, of course you will be able to hear the person talking but what about them being able to hear you?

Since using the drop technique I described to fix my flip feature, it now works when I flip it regardless of the type of surface.

As long as the prox sensor is tagging, you will have speaker phone.
Easy way to test.
Call a number. Turn the phone over while holding it in the air. Cover the prox sensor (the sensor just to the left of the speaker grill at the top of the phone). Speaker phone will come on. Move hand away from the prox sensor, speaker phone will go off.
So I did the test and when I covered the speaker it turned on and stayed on even after removing my hand and putting it in an upright position.
Is that what it's supposed to do?

Ahh, I just tested it as well and you are correct!
Seems it does not constantly check the prox sensor.
If you turn the phone back over the speaker phone will be on and unless I cover the prox sensor again, it will stay on.
Kinda of odd since it did not work that way when I first got it. I wondering if maybe something with the custom roms or the kernel, may be changing the behavior?

It's just started today, at least I've only noticed it today.
I will just be talking like normal on speaker - and it switches itself off and to the head piece only.
It is driving me nuts ... I've restarted the phone a few times and haven't put any new software on today or any updates.
Was your phone face down and not on a sturdy flat surface?

Go to Menu, settings, sound, and check to see if you have flip for speaker checked.
Can't get it to work and it is checked on in settings. Is there a trick to it? I've tried face down and face up and only while on outgoing call that is still ringing, not during a connected call. Is that the problem? That would seem weird to me.
Also, when I first started researching phones, one of the first ones I looked at had a feature that when you got a call if you turned it over it would silence the ringer. I have a feeling it was the Moto Droid though. Anyone know if there's an app to do that on the RZD or if I'm mistaken and it has that feature?
From my understanding, u must be in "normal" sound profile for flip speaker to work. Also the ringer does go silent* when u pick it up.
*maybe not silent, but ringer does get alot lower

I haven't noticed that with the ringing but I'm thinking more of a silence the phone and ignore it sort of situation. Like if I'm at work or with a friend and the phone rings I can just turn it over and it will stop.
Mine works. I accidently got it to work actually. Sat the phone down while talking to someone then all of a sudden they got loud. Everytime I have tried it sense it has work.
was one of the first things I discovered on my rezound, and I love it. I use it quite often actually haha. There is a setting in the menu to enable or disable it, as well as the silence if you move the phone while it's ringing.
Settings > Sound settings under incoming calls
I used to have these extra settings checked, but i read somewhere that it drains the battery faster. Maybe the sensors detecting the orientation of the phone causes some battery drain, but im not positive about that.
It works really well on mine. If there's a battery issue, maybe you want to check what power settings you're in. I keep mine in performance, since that also seems to cause less problems with 4G turning off. Also check if your sensors are working, maybe with a tilt game or something similar. I've had it on the whole time and it doesn't seem like I get less battery life than what people report, at least not obviously.
Just tested this out, and it seems like the speaker phone flip and silence ringer flip only work when the phone is on a flat surface. The phone lowers the volume of the ring when you pick it up, but mutes it completely if you flip it face down on a flat surface. The speakerphone works the same way, at least I couldn't get it to activate without putting the phone down.

I tested the muting the rings when you turn it over and that worked, then when I answered it my friend hung up! She didn't know the second part of the test. lol. Then our food came and we stuffed our faces. Then we had to go to a stupid 3 hour safety training class that didn't apply to our department AT ALL. Oh well...
I wonder if it needs the sensor covered up as well as being turned over, the one that makes the screen turn off when you hold it to your ear.
Yep, I think that's it. If you turn it over and don't lay it on a table no speakerphone, but if you then just cover that sensor with your hand it goes to speakerphone. Problem with this function is when you turn it back over speakerphone turns off. Guess I'll just turn on speakerphone the old fashioned cumbersome way. Was hoping to just be able to flip it over and back. Oh well.

I am not sure if anyone else is annoyed by this problem, but I am. Everytime I get into my car I have to make sure to take the phone out of my pocket because if i make a call or receive a call using bluetooth, the screen gets unlocked and thus causes accidental button presses while on and after the call.
This is a real problem. I am not sure if HTC is doing anything to address this, but I know that Motorola and iPhone do not do that.
Please help. If you know of any app that will help out let me know.

I have the same problem. I get really annoyed by it. As soon as the call ends the screen comes up and calls someone else. Sometimes it comes on during the call and I hit the end button I think

Still no ideas? I found this on a Google search hoping to find an answer. My old iPhone would stay locked if I answered or made a call via my car's Bluetooth. The screen would light up, so I could see sho was calling, but when I answered, it would stay locked. Not with my androids. Had an Inspire, and now have a One X. Both of them will unlock the screen when answering a call with my car's Bluetooth. SUPER annoying!!! Anybody know of an app to keep the screen locked (display lit up, but locked) when answering with Bluetooth?
Symptoms... Sometimes the screen will start clicking its own things. i have to turn off screen then back on to refresh/stop it. Notice it the most when typing on keyboard but it does it in web browser, emails, texts, apps, launcher, and such.
Ive tried... wiping, scanning to make sure no bad software was on there. Tried other ROMs.
My guess... Digitizer is going out?
Had the phone since start of August last year. Should I SBF to stock and take to Sprint? and second, if they gave me a new phone instead of fixing it, will i be stuck with a firmware release that is not unlockable at this time?
Don't worry, this symptom is absolutely normal, on every android phone I had (including Galaxy Nexus). This is caused more or less by too wet finger, too dirty finger, too dry finger or phone on charger. It depends, if you hold it in your hand, or have it on the desk.
The replaced Photon would have this symptom too. A little annoying, I know. It's the capacitive digitizer. Nothing better was developed yet.
Download the app Touch Test and check for dead spots in the digitizer. If you can't trace a solid line or the visual feedback jumps all over then place than it's definitely the touchscreen.
I would SBF back to stock before bringing it into a sprint store. If it is a touchscreen issue they will likely replace the phone as they do not carry parts for the photon at this time. You will still be able to unlock the new phone as the 2.3.5 OTA update that locks the bootloader has not yet been released.
my motorola electrify did the same thing especially on keyboard... Be texting and it Would put on screen something on other side of keyboard that I was texting..... After a while I don't know if it adapted or what but now it only does it every once in a blue moon now

I never had a problem with my screen until i realized on day when i connect my phone to a speaker through an auxiliary cable, the screen starts acting nuts. Its doesnt respond well to the touch. It lags... Its only problematic when i put in the 3.5MM aux cable. Not with anything else like charger / earphones..
ANyone else facing such problems? I tried with multiple speakers / car music system / portable speakers etc..
