For my Galaxy Nexus, I use Sixaxis to connect my PS3 controller. This app requires root access to work.
On the Transformer Prime, how would I connect my PS3 controller through bluetooth? I understand functionality is natively supported, but when I Scan for devices in the Bluetooth settings, it does not find my PS3 controller. As I do not have root, I cannot use the Sixaxis app. So how do I connect? Thanks in advance.
I don't have a ps3 controller to test, but I believe the native support comes from plugging in the controller via usb. I saw a review video that demo'd this with the controller plugged into the keyboard dock.

Yea, I wanted to do the same.. I think it's silly you HAVE to use the dock... Please link the cable also.

I am using this with the USB on the dock. It works on the desktop; left, right and it goes from one icon to another and to the next or previous desktop. But within android games not working mostly. I havent tried it yet with the emulators where you can map the keys. Why, why did I sell my GTab 10.1???? Everything was working including GPS and hdmi with an adapter.
So the kit from gamestop that comes with the controller includes this usb dongle then? Or, are there some controllers that will work but just not the Sony brand one (which I assume probably feels the best)

Supposely this app works for the Prime and even in the Video it has him choosing Wireless XBOX 360 controller...
I emailed him to see if it works for this tablet and the wireless controllers via Bluetooth
I have the dock and loaded a Warhammer trial on Onlive hoping it would be plug and play like it mentioned in the video demo I saw. Sadly, that is not the case so far. Will have to do some digging to see how to get it to work with Onlive since that is the main reason I was looking into that game service.

i just got back from game stop and this controller links via blu-tooth it only charges via usb, gamestop is now selling the controller for 39.99 standalone.
i think it probably has the option to make it visible to blutooth networks where there may be some security measures on the ps3 controllers blutooth to prevent it from being seen by anything non-sony, i don't really know, just taking a wild stab at it here, but seems logical to me.
i can;t personally confirm this, but this is what i was told by the guy in the store that seemed to know about the tf201, at least more then most people i've talked to IRL....take that for what it's worth....
You have to be rooted and you need the app sixaxis controller. Then you download and install the computer client, plug in the PS3 controller to the pc and enter the bluetooth address from your phone (located at the bottom of the sixaxis controller app) this syncs your controller to the tablet.
here is a compatibility checker for sixaxis controller (my prime is on it's way so I'm not sure if it works yet)
https://market.android.com/details?...kaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb21wYXRpYmlsaXR5Y2hlY2tlciJd
If it's compatible here is the paid app
https://market.android.com/details?...udios.sixaxiscontroller&feature=search_result
I got my ps3 controller working once i finally rooted. It works well with shadowgun and FPse... I just wish you could map the buttons to what you want, kinda awkward using the analog press button to fire...
Anyone know how to change this? No matter what I set my buttons too in the sixaxis app it doesn't seem to change.
But overall its not that bad, and its really fun for shadowgun.
If your thinking about getting the Gamestop bluetooth controller, dont... its a POS. I had it bundled with my first prime and the controller (and the GS prime) was a POS. It was ugly and the only game I could get it to work with was shadow gun (not as a real controller but just like the sixaxis app, keyboard input override).

okay i used the app : Sixaxis Controller, (Dancing Pixel Studios) and used this controller setup:
dpad center is for fire i set that to both R2 and R! plus the start key to be able to select menu options.
7 is for reload and i set that to L1 and L2
J is for analog 2 left
L is for analog 2 right
I is for analog 2 up
K is for analog 2 down
dpad left for analog 1 left
dpad right for analog 1 right
dpad up for analog 1 up
dpad down for analog 1 down
back for select which pause the game
now for the weapons. (only figured out for two)
A is for shotgun set that to square
D is for SMG set that to x
W is for Shotgun and i have that at Triangle
guessing S is for the 4th weapon but will verify if need to

I also use sixaxis on my prime to connect a PS3 controller.
It will work with ANY game that supports gamepad input and...brace yourself, ANY game that supports touch screen input!
Took about 5 minutes to set up and now im playing games on my tv from across the room.
*on bluetooth
You dont need any special dongles to make it work. You can either use your dock to pair, or you can do it on a windows PC.
You only need to pair it once, but it becomes bound to your device, so if you want to do it on another tablet too you have to re-pair it.
The instructions on the website are extremely easy to understand. I was happy to shell out $2 for the app.
Yes i spent the $2 on sixaxis app on the market and its well worth it.
No matter how i setup my buttons on sixaxis they remain the same...
IE: Setting fire (dpad center) to L1 or R1 doesnt set them to L1 or R1 I still have to use dpad center to fire on my controller...
Any idea what i may be doing wrong? Thanks for your button mapping setup. I will try more to get it to map out for me.
also how would you setup the controller to work on a game such as samurai II vengeance?
i think this is whats going wrong. You need to change the default input method its always on asus keybord. you need to change it to sixaxis controller you can do this in the sixaxes app if you have done that make sure you restart the game. and should work with the keysetup i posted. hope this helps.
Have you tried plugging your PS3 controller into your computer and changing the Bluetooth address to the same as your prime. Then searching for it on your prime?

Ive upgraded sucessfully to 3.1 and thuoght that xbox 360 controllers are ment to work. not managed so far - does any one know how to get them to work ive tried wired and wireless ones.
i take it no one has then?
Its strange seeing as there are some reviews coming out with the xoom on 3.1 getting to use xbox 360 contollers.
Do you have the dock? I've seen reports of people not having luck getting it to work that upgraded to 3.1 but no mention if they are using the dock or the female to female usb adapter method that is floating around.
Also the update that is floating around is not the OTA one so it may not be complete.
yeah i do have the dock... hope the ota update has the drivers for xbox controllers. would be awesome!
After updating to 3.1 I tried plugging in my usb gamepad to the dock, and loaded up Snes9x. Tried remapping the keys to the gamepad and it would say the keys were mapped to "none" no matter what button I pushed on the controller. The TF definitely knew that there was a gamepad plugged in, but it seemed like it didn't know how to map it correctly. So I tried playing Cordy like they did when they showed off 3.1, and all the buttons on the gamepad would make me run and jump to the right. So from what I can tell, it does register that there is a usb device plugged in and working, but it just won't map the buttons correctly . I don't have a wired 360 controller to try out, but I tried plugging in my PlayStation 2 controller with a usb adapter, and the TF wouldn't even register any of the button presses.
I tried a ps3 compatible pad this morning with n64oid and it worked once I mapped the controls. Didn't have time to really test thoroughly but seems to work on the leaked 3.1. This tweet from asusuk seems to confirm it for the official 3.1

Is this only possible for people who have the dock? Does it have to be via cable??
Thanks guys!
Only docks.
I mean the tablet doesn't even have any USB ports.
Any way to pair it via Bluetooth, or maybe get it to connect through the asus propriety cable?
Doubt it. Xbox 360 controllers don't use blue tooth to connect to the console. The asus cable would have to be modified somehow an you would lose a cable most likely.
asus PR fail?
i got the OTA 3.1 update here in the US yesterday. when i plug my usb 360 controller into my dock, the ring of lights continuously blinks. the controller does not seem to register with cordy or with any emulators i've tried. i think the origional (mis)information that this would work came from the AsusUK twitter account.
can anyone in the UK confirm that this doesn't work for them?
After the 3.1 update i plugged in my old logitech pc controller and fired up snesnoid and everything works perfectly.
Unfortunately you are equating 'supported' with 'devs have created apps that now work' with said support. The gamepads will work as long as the apps have been updated to use the newer code.
All I've tried so far has been an old PS1 controller plugged in via a cheapo usb pc adapter and it worked flawlessly in fpse. Oddly enough it was even letting me control the home screens in android as well. Although the button mapping was all off for that trial.
then it seems logical that we call a controller 'supported' by android if it can switch homescreens. if an app is coded in such a way as to support the controller then we can call it 'supported' by that app and the controller becomes useful. i believe the generic key mapping features of most emulators are good enough and should work for the 360 controller, that is if the OS can recognize it. i'd wager that if a USB controller can not switch homescreens then it will be impossible for an app to make use of it.
both google and asus advertise that the 360 controller should work on the transformer after the 3.1 upgrade. mine can not switch home screens or do anything else at all besides annoyingly blink its lights.
i think my 360 controller not working is a bug and that makes me sad.
i would very much like to be proved wrong here.
I'm using a USB female to female adapter w/ this and it will not work for the life of me. Maybe the adapter is bad but it will not connect to this for nothing.
Note: Using XBOX360 Controller
has anyone tried connecting it trough a usb hub?
I got XBox 360 controller with USB which work fine on PC but doesn't work with my Transformer under Android 3.1
It seems Google forgot the XBox 360 drivers :s

Can you look at the back of your controller and tell me the model? I've got a emulator list with controllers that are working I would like to add it to. Check the DIY link in my signature.
Curious if anyone knows about hooking up a wired, usb controller to the TF while docked. I already own the wired gaming controllers that I use on my laptop for SNES roms, but wanted to use it on the transformer while I'm out.
android 3.1 supports the xbox and ps3 wire controllers...and i'm guessing other standard (meaning they work without custom drivers) gamepads.
i test an old PC gamepad i had, and it only partially worked. (some buttons aren't recognized, or recognized weirdly)
eitherway, it's trial and error.
but officially, Android 3.1 supports, at the very least, the xbox and ps3 controllers.
I can confirm ps3 controller works

Sweet, well i have an older gamepad that once I get the TF I will give it a shot, worst comes to worst will just pick up an xbox controller and call it good
The Xbox 360 USB controller does not work with this tablet.
Are you using an actual USB 360 controller or a 360 controller with the charge and play cable? The charge and play cable does not transmit data, it only charges, so you would have to have the 360 controller synced through blue tooth to make it work that way.
I got one of these docks today so I can confirm that the following controllers work with the dock:
PS3 dual shock
Logitech Cordless Precision PS3 controller (Wireless!)
Mayflash Classic Controller USB adapter (this one surprised me)
HOWEVER!
I was unable to get any of the emulators to register the right analog stick, which for most emulators is not a big deal, but still not as good I think as just using a wii remote with a classic controller which seems to work for all the buttons and sticks and things.
Also, I was unable to get 2 usb gamepads to be recognized independently (i.e. as player 1 and player 2) so for me this is not good either. I am now selling the dock on ebay because the only plus for me was being able to have 2 wireless USB gamepads that are not tethered to something else (wii remote) and be able to play 2 player games. Otherwise this dock just makes my transformer less portable. I'm sure for some people it's great though, I'm not knocking it, it just wasn't suited for what I wanted.
Anyone try it with a Logitech gamepad (usb)?

Yes, I'm using an actual USB Xbox 360 controller not the wireless controller with the charge and play cable. This is an issue that if you search the forums you'll find others who have the same problem. I had emailed Asus more than a month ago about the issue and they finally responded and said:

The wireless gamepad I tried was Logitech, so I would imagine that this would work as well. I have a couple of older model Logitech gamepads I can test later on if I get around to it.
I really am disappointed though in the fact that android 3.1 does not seem to distinguish between 2 different gamepads plugged in at the same time. I tried setting up a 2 player game of Contra by mapping buttons for player 1 and player 2 on each respective pad, but both gamepads controlled both characters at the same time. So it's fine for single player, but any kind of multiplayer is no go.
I take it back. It is something they are looking to resolve:
The next firmware update will support xbox 360 controller and the firmware will be released soon.

Thanks so much for the info! But would you be so kind as to check with the older model Logitech gamepads (with usb)? I'm looking to buy the one that I linked you earlier and this would definitely be a deal breaker if it didn't work.
I bought the Logitech F310-controller. It works fine with N64oid and ok with Reckless Racing & Getaway.
However, even though I select gamepad as control method I can not get Shine Runner nor Air Attack HD working. Do these games work for other people or do these games require a PS3-controller?
I bought the logitech F510. In Riptide GP works fine, but 3D games, like Shadowgun, cannot be played, because right analog doesn´t work correctly. I try Kernel module pack V4 from this forum, but it not help me. I think it was a mistake bought this gamepad. Perhaps I will go buy PS3 controller...

Yes, you need the dock to plug it in via usb. Unless of course you have an OTG USB adapter, in which case you would plug it into that.
I briefly had the F710 before I returned it and bought an excellent condition used-PS3 dualshock 3 from Gamestop. The only game I attempted to play was Grand Theft Auto III, and it worked perfectly fine for that. I much prefer the Sixaxis method though because you create touch profiles for games that don't support controllers.
EDIT: Should note that the Logitech F310/510/710 series controllers are all well made, but not nearly as comfortable to use as a PS3 controller (which itself is one step below a 360 controller imo). However, you can use them with a PC relatively easier than you can a Sixaxis.
I couldnt connect F710 to S3, is there a special way to do it?

Hello
I have MHL adapter and its working fine with my SGS2 but i want to play games on the TV on Wifi/BT Game PAD.
I don`t have any game pad so this is open.
In theory I have rpogram to chose:
a) USB/BT Joystick Center - for any OTG controllers
b) Sixaxis controller - for only original PS3 game pads
I don`t want to buy the PS3 game pad as its expesive a I additionally I want to buy next year the new XBOX.
Best choise for now would be a cheap wireless controller with the program A) which dosen`t need to be plugged to the phone with OTG cable.
Is this possible and is there such a hardware to buy?
Any ideas?

how to connect it when I have the MHL adapter in the USB port ?
the sixaxis controller and the sixaxis app are your only options.
let me explain:
if you want to use mhl, you cannot use another usb device, which excludes xbox controllers, because, well, the wired one needs a usb port of course, but the wireless needs a usb receiver as well (since it is not bluetooth). also, i never got the wired one working, it seems to consume to much power for the phone and only works on tablets.
then there is the wiimote, which works with bluetooth, but to my knowledge, it does not work with the bluetooth stack on the s2. the consequence is:
either you use an aosp/aokp based rom (which uses a different bluetooth stack), then you can use the wiimote, but no mhl, or you use a stock rom, then you can use mhl, but no wiimote.
since you need the usb port for mhl, all "cheap pc usb controllers" are out as well.
then there is the phonejoy controller, which works as a native bluetooth controller, but costs way too much for being just a sixaxis knock-off controller (it is like 60eur here).
so, if you go with the original sony dualshock 3 controller (for about 30eur) and an additional 2eur, you are better off. also, besides being able to pair the controller as a native controller, it can also be connected as a native keyboard or using touch profiles, which means, games without controller support will also work. and since this works with a fairly regular bluetooth connection, there is no cable issue there.

PS3 controller via bluetooth here as well
Just like my Galaxy S2 it looks like Samsung is STILL using their proprietary bluetooth stack because my Wiimotes dont work with my Tab 2. Wiimote Connect always asks me for a PIN. Might have to give in and just get a PS3 controller.

Hello
I have a problem, when i plug in to my Tab 2 a gamepad i see " connected USB device with high performance" and bottom "can not get access to the device" (message translated from Polish), and USB/BT Joystick Center test app dont see a usb gamepad. I dont know what i to do. I dont want root my tablet but i want play with controler. Please help and sorry for my poor english
I forgot i use USB OTG adapter.
I see that no one knows the answer to my question. So let us differently. Message about high power, tell i think says that game pad take to much elctric power, so i have another question if i connect bluetooth gamepad with USB dongle then will take less power? And if so, that my tablet and USB / BT Joystick Center app willbe work with this set? Maybe someone tried?
Im talking about normal bluetooth PC gamepad.

I use a Nyko Playpad and it works great with my tab
Here's a fun fact. I was playing shadowgun deadzone for a few hours on my galaxy tab 2 10.1 WiFi only non root FULLY CHARGED .
Now I stopped playing
BATTERY IS AT 40% or so, unplugged the ps3 controller , did bit of web browsing for bout 20 mins
Then left my tab.
Came back battery is at 38% NOW.
So plugged in the ps3 controller to play shadowgun deadzone again
AND now it's saying 'connected device is too high power consumption!'
Go figure...
So charged it to full.
Plugged ps3 again now Works.
So looks like at a certain % it didn't accept ' high powered devices' like the ps3 controller.
I don't know what the % limit is until it says ' high powered device Bla Bla'
But I'd think it's around 50-40%
Thought I'd let people know

Want to add to save others time and trouble. You can use a ps3 controller. But it HAS to be a genuine Sony controller. If you dont have one, they are expensive. Use the app sixaxis compatibility and its sister app, sixaxis controller, to make it work.
If you dont have a ps3 controller, the gamestop controller that acam mentioned above is supposed to be really good. My local Gamestop wanted $30. Since i'm cheap, i bought the Red Samurai V2 controller from gamestop ($25). I love it! It looks great, works great and feels great in the hands. Played Shadowgun Deadzone no problem with it. I'm going to try and pair it with my desktop pc and see how it works.
