I am trying to tether my Droid X2's 3G to my new Galaxy Player 5.0, I have tried Barnacle and a couple other tethering apps from the market but the GP is not reading my network.
I tried searching for this but found nothing so I figured I would get the communities opinion on what the best way to do this is.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have noticed that Barnacle works better for me through the Droid X2, I don't know what everyone else is using, but this is what has worked the best for me.
I too am trying to tether my x2 running eclipse rom to my player with barnacle. I tried open garden bluetooth and it wouldn't work. Can you explain how to replace the thing with barnacle? Thanks!
It found my Optimus-V hotspot in a few seconds, just using the hotspot widget in Widgetsoid2. I've onlyhad the need/desire to tether once since I have wifi at home and work. Not supposed to tether with VM anyway
Ditto to the above, what works for me is using wireless hotspot app. I have my Epic 4g running a custom ROM called CleanGB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344074 and it includes a 'custom' WireLess Hotspot that I leave running so my wife's Galaxy Player 5 can jump on my 3G/4G via WiFi. (don't get me going though on the slug and almost non-existent Sprint 4G)
Find it interesting (and frustrating) that Barnacle calls itself a ' WiFi tether' but is actually a wireless hotspot. Tether in cell phone speak has always implied a wired connection between your phone and another device. Hope those lines don't start blurring.
Best tethering (phone to computer via USB cable) IMHO is hands down PDANet from a company called June Fabrics. It works seemlessly in Windows XP and Windows 7. Even if your provider charges you to use tethering via their Android or Blackberry app, PDANet can hide the data connection.... They also make one for the Mac OSx environment I believe.

Hello, all. I am wondering if anybody can help me resolve a issue with wifi tethering .. I can't for the life of me, get it to work.. I'm using HTC Droid Eris rooted (unknown source) on cricket network, I see no errors while I start up and it says sharing connection, but I can't see it on any devices! I've tried, barnicale, Google's code site, and just about every other tether app I could find! Is this an issue with cricket itself, cm7, or maybe kernel!? Please help! Thanks in advance

Did you find a solution? 2.0.7 doesn't work for me either. the wireless tether hasn't worked for me since i flashed 7.1 CyanogenMod.
I am using CM7 and Barnacle works for me but I have to press both start and associate. I also have troubles with wifi tether.
I've been using cm7 for months and barnacle and the wireless tether 2.0.7 both work normally for me. You try wiping everything reflashing then installing apps one at a time to see if that fixes your problem?
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
I stopped using 2.0.7 a long time ago. It was killing my battery even while it was plugged in. Currently I am using the 3.x beta series of Wireless Tether (I am currently using beta 6) with KhosFroyo v39 (am preparing to move away from this soon) via Verizon Wireless.
Check to make sure you can access data using a web browser. Also check to make sure you can connect to a wifi network. If you can't find wifi networks with the phone, your wifi antenna may be damaged.
When using tethering, make sure wi-fi is disabled first (tethering will start it automatically).
Then start up tethering after defining the Eris in the profile settings. Your devices shouldn't have any problems seeing it. I've had up to 3 laptops + an Xbox 360 connected all at once.
whats rom-version you have?
I am using cm7 and barnacle. I can't use any security and had to change the custom wifi adhoc setting to hero/Eris.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
If you are trying to tether another device to your Eris, you need to make sure that the 2nd device can see "Adhoc" networks. You may need a different wpa_supplicant file on the 2nd device.
I'm running GSBv4.2 -CM7.1-11152011 with the Wireless Tether v2.0.2. I've used Barnacle on other ROMs also.
here i got this with a rom and it's worked on every rom i've ever flashed since i got it. copy both of em, use the the app with the green logo

Im using the Mac rom mr8 sr1 and I figured out the problem.. it was working the whole time, I jus was trying tether it to another android and a PSP.. and neither one of those support ad-hoc. So I flashed a wifi supplicant that lets the android connect to ad-hoc! I still havnt found a way to push the tether on an Eris into an infrastructure tether yet... so if anybody's seen that work, let me know.. I use both Samsung galaxy s and the eris.. it would be nice to have the Eris push out a normal AP, and not ad-hoc

Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me out. I am currently rooted on 2.3.4 and am trying to wireless tether using Open Garden on my droid X2. It has no problem starting up and running, my iTouch even finds the signal and connects (this is indicated by the wireless symbol on my iTouch). However, OG does not recognize any clients connected. Also, my iTouch cannot do anything internet related even though it is connected to a wifi network.
edit: I also failed to say I have Verizon, not sure if that matters.
Any ideas? I've been doing some research and haven't found anything too helpful
Thanks!

Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
i will give that one a try! thanks!
you are able to run CM7 on the DROID X2? Which one are you using? Last time I checked the X2 wasn't on their website.
Also, would you mind telling me what settings you are using for Barnacle? The same issue I had with OG is what is going on with Barnacle. itouch says connected, Barnacle says no clients connected. Maybe there is something wrong in the settings...
would you mind also telling me what settings you are using for Barnacle? I am wondering if maybe I just don't have it set up correctly.
It helps to know that it works for some people! I have hope I can troubleshoot it now =)
I have the CM7 on my galaxy tab and hp touchpad. I didn't do anything special on the barnacle...just downloaded and off I went. The only thing I did not do was secure it. Didn't feel like messing with another security key that I would forget. Couldn't get barnacle to connect my laptop...but I got easy tether for that.

oh gotcha. so you are running the default setting with no security right? hrmm. wonder why mine won't recognize clients. I will try to do an unsecured setting again. I think I tried it but I may be mistaken.

getting my phone to successfully tether has been quite the task. for your vista laptop you use easy tether right? Is that a wired tether or wireless?

OK... After sacrificing my ability to tether by moving from CM7 xronified to ICS, I have tried all kinds of combinations to tether my Epic 4G Touch to my TP on ICS (currently running CM9 alpha 2).
I came across the app foxfi in the market and it WORKS. I am still on cloud 9 at the moment, but has anyone heard anything bad about this app? It doesn't behave like open garden or wifi tether, but its freaking working. I am posting from the tethered connection right now.

I must be missing something, how is it possible that what version of Android your TouchPad is running effects your phones ability to be a wifi hotspot?
I have never had an issue with using the built in wifi portable hotspot in Android to tether my TouchPad. If you enabled that on your phone when you were running CM7 on your TP, how would ICS affect that.

Touchpad doesn't play so nicely with all tethers. Consider yourself lucky. Alot of people dumped their TPs because they couldn't get tethering to work. It is very buggy. All 3 of my TPs don't tether at will. In the past, there have been different protocols to get each to work. My hotspot could be seen by every other device I own, but my TPs couldn't see it. There are tons of bug threads relating to wifi, but nothing really talking about tethering. I saw a few other threads in forums for phones addressing touch pad, but why not have a place in the touch pad forum to bring it all to one spot?
Now Foxfi works with all three TPs and no ceremonial switches and reboots are required to get it to go.
Mine tethers from my Atrix perfectly with the built in setting. didn't know people were dumping their tp cuz of tether.

As far as I know, without rooting, you will have to pay for the hotspot service by your provider in order to tether. I would say try PDAnet, but I haven't heard of anyone successfully tethering via BT.

That could be the issue too. I will test it with some of my friends phones and report back (might be a day or two). I didn't think about a possible conflict with carrier specific phones.

According to the info on the Market, Foxfi does not require rooting. But you will need to check to see if it is compatible with your phone.

I use freetether on my pre2 to tether-via-wifi with my touchpad, works great.
You're right about the bluetooth. The option is there, and I can get everything to link up, but it still doesn't seem to be actually sharing the internet connection. I thought it'd be brilliant to get bluetooth tethering going (it should use a bit less energy to tether, giving me better battery life), but it doesn't seem to work in all the testing and fiddling I've done...

I didn't see a forum for the Razr Maxx, so I'm posting my question here in the Razr forum. On my HTC Incredible, I am able to change the 3G Mobile Hotspot settings by dialing ##778, selecting Edit Mode, entering 000000, opening M.IP Default Profile, and editing the NAI and DUN NAI fields by removing the "dun" from the address. I cannot seem to figure out how to do this on the Razr Maxx. Does anyone have any idea how to do this for the Mobile Hotspot on the Razr/Razr Maxx?

yup. Im rooted but rocking FoxFi. no issues. I was downloading a torrent the other day while tethered, was coming down at 2.7M a second. fixFi RICKS!!!
I have heard of Foxfi, and I will look into that, so thank you for the suggestion. But, I am still interested in the setting that I described for two reasons. First, other Incredible users have reported slow wifi speeds when using a 3rd party app as opposed to Verizon's 3G Mobile Hotspot (or just Mobile Hotspot on the Maxx), although I have not heard anything about speed with a 3rd party app on the Razr Maxx. Second, I am just interested in knowing more about my phone.
Perhaps someone can answer your specific questions about settings, however, I will talk a little more about FoxFi- speeds on 4G are ridiculously fast. I ran FoxFi on my Maxx and my Acer Iconia tablet was getting over 25mbps down speeds and 14mbps up.
It's not a perfect app. Occasionally, you'll have to stop and restart the hotspot to get your device to "see" your Razr, but overall, it's great... and once connected, rock solid.
Additionally, it appears to me that fox fi somehow uses the phones native Hotspot connection but bypasses it. I used to use Wi-fi tether rooted on my last phone and I never saw phones hotspot pop up. But on the RAZR unrooted, I can also affirm that the previously mentioned speeds are real and accurate. The app is great.

Well I just finally rooted a few days ago and installed Wifi Tether and it works right out of the box, but based on recommendations here I decided to try Foxfi and it connected but it had some error in windows (which on the Foxfi page they say to run the internet repair wizard) well I ran the wizard and the problem persisted so instead of trying to trouble shoot I just went the easy way and use Wifi Tether.
I installed Foxfi. The first time I connected to it, I had no internet access. But the second time and since then it has worked fantastically. I am very happy with this solution, and I thank those of you who have suggested the app to me. If anyone has any ideas, it would still be nice, however, to know about the NAI settings and if they're accessible/editable. Just for tinkering's sake.
Does anyone know how foxfi speed compares to native tethering speed that rooted RAZR users might enjoy?

Foxfi is good enough for systems where adhoc networks don't matter. The only way I have been succussful with tethering on the touch pad is with root and Wifi Tether app. Just Google it and side load it as it is not in the market. I hope that helps.
instead of using androids built in wifi settings to connect, I use "wifi analyzer". its free in google play, and allows you to see and do things that you can't using stock wifi connection settings. You can set different channels for a 5ghz as well as b/g/n 2.4ghz, as well as reconnect options etc etc. it's a nice way to see which channels are best to connect with.
Thanks,I will give that a try

just because a device is rooted does not mean it will automatically see an ad-hoc connection from another android device. ad-hoc/peer to peer connections from droid to droid are tricky and flakey alot of times or just wont work at all depending on the kernel. everyone usually thinks that tethering and hotspot are the same thing. they are not. there is a big difference between ad-hoc and infrastructure connections.
FWIW, I have zero issues tethering my TP using the stock tethering feature of my Galaxy Nexus.
