*Update*
I received mine today (12/28) from UPS. There's also talk in the other threads about getting your money back for 1day shipping option from Best Buy. Haven't tried yet (didn't want to jinx arrival) but I plan on calling tomorrow.
UPS NEXT DAY AIR
ETA: by 3:00 pm Wednesday
Yep my tracking number also now works in UPS's system. It's coming from Fresno CA and I am on the East Coast so it won't be here till the 4th :-(
Is there anyway to get UPS to ship it faster for a charge? I don't want to wait a week!!!
The real heartache is going to be when you open the device and see it immediately does not live up to your expectations. I found no discernible difference between my TF101 and TF201, thus, I canceled my order. People must temper their expectations, or all of the hand wringing and teeth knashing that has been going on waiting to get one will feel like nothing compared to dropping 500 beans on a tablet that really won't 'wow' you, in any way.
what does this mean for Canadians, if anything?
I'm pretty sure you gonna love the device. it has definitely Wowed me and I come from having an Ipad. still haven't been able to set it down yet..lol. I know I need to get off this forum and start playing around with it somemore. catch you all later lmao

Seriously? How about you let us find out for ourselves, eh? We really, really don't need you to comment in a thread that has absolutely NOTHING to do with YOUR experience, if your only purpose is to inflict whatever misery you feel on us.

I ordered mine on Saturday 12/24 through the special link and the UPS tracking just went through. As others stated, it is in Fresno and will be here tomorrow! Didn't get one for Christmas but it is my birthday tomorrow so it is all good.
I had one on order from Newegg and cancelled it once Best Buy confirmed my order on Monday. I sure hope I don't have any defects like some have stated. This is my first tablet so I am sure I will enjoy it and not be disappointed. My Droid X is fun but I am sure this will be a whole lot better.

wow, the other guys were right, way to bring down the party and troll all over my post. The only purpose of the thread was to give hope to the people waiting on their tablet. Dirty pool man, dirty pool.
I ordered mine Friday after I received the email from BB stating I could replace my champagne with the gray. After 2+ hours on the phone and giving the CSR Supervisor the link they sent me in the email.... it finally got ordered (but should have been here today)
Mine has left Fresno, moved to Ontario and is in the air on it's way to me I am now finally confident it will be here tomorrow.

i found me a preorder, thanx all.
There are many preorder sites threads that you can look at and see which one still has availability. I would suggest to go there and start searching those to find your answer
I ordered from expansys.ca, mainly because they have it available in gold and not just grey. Anything you order from expansys Canada will come from the states, the difference being that they'll take care of things like duties if you order from the Canadian website.
The good thing about it is that they won't charge you until you confirm that you want it AFTER they get enough stock to accommodate you. And there are no cancellation fees.
But it's a big list. I was number 140 on it, just yesterday morning.

thanx, do you think if i preorded from there now, i would get it on or before the 19th? or even faster then amazon.ca?
I'm not sure about that. I doubt it though. They have no ETA, and you'd be at least number 141 on the list, so probably not before the 19th.

At this point I feel like the only people getting anything on or around the 19th are Best Buy, Best Buy.ca, and Gamestop. Maybe Amazon and Newegg but i don't think those are looking too good at this point either. I could be way off but that is how it is feeling so far. From the rumor mill it at least appears all of Canada is pushed back except bb.ca.
You can always try pre-ordering from Frys.
I did last night for my wife.
http://www.frys.com/search?cat=-68332&pType=pDisplay&fq=100319 Android_Honeycomb_3.2-m10099998 ASUS
They also ship to Canada so you never know.
no one knows...
Hold on, let me just grab my crystal ball....
....But seriously, unless someone here works for Asus (in an in-the-know capacity) and spills the beans, you can "assume" anything you want, it will not make the release/availability date any less of a guessing game.
It's true that no one knows but you can make some educated deductions to find that it at least appears so far that GS and BB are the most likely to meet the 19th & 20th estimates. And also that Best Buy Canadia is the best bet in Canada.
i found a site, but the name is prob a typo.
is this the right product numbers?
TF201-B1-GR
TF201-DOCK-GR
edit:
btw the dock is 115 dollars... why so cheap? i know the sites legit, and i called them and they should be getting some in stock in a few days (estimate) this sites my best chance to get it by the 19th... BUT WHY SO CHEEEAAAP!?!
edit2:
now i found the old one for EVEN MORE then the new one... 572.00 the other one is 500... i googled the product numbers and it has to be the right pad... WHY!?
on my way to preordering it right now (1 click away lol)

Listen, I'm not going to argue with you. I have read every post in this forum and I am guessing just from all of the conjecture and the few facts that I have read that Best Buy and Gamestop are the most likely to meet the 19th release. I'm educated and that is my guess. I've never come close to stating that it was a fact.
And for the sake of transparency I have paid Gamestop in full for my preorder. So I suppose there is some hope dashed into my edumacated guesses.

well... i hope to god your right, i got a private message from some awesome badass, telling me about a site that has 0 preorders and 6 on the way.
so i should be getting mine around the 19th. they guess it will get to them by the 16th.
Awesome. I hope that is true. I really hope everybody gets them opening day. I was really hoping the 12th would pan out for those that had that as a release date at some point.
im a little worried though... why does my dock only cost 115 dollars..
its supposed to be 150... arnt those set prices? I checked the product number 6 times, and its the proper product, i even called them and they said that the product numbers are always correct.. can someone explain this to me.
What site are we talking about? I'd be curious to look if you have already become the first to preorder there and it won't jeopardize your chances of getting it there.

And seriously, do you really think this is even remotely close to what happened? My golly, the Prime's launch was delayed due to a manufacturing issue. That's it. By a few weeks, even.
In the real world, we even have a saying for this: "**** happens." Most adults recognize that fact and move on with their lives.
Clearly everyone is frustrated but honestly, I can't see how any re-seller would be culpable at this point with the apparent lack of communication from ASUS.
Amazon probably doesn't want the hate mail from misquoting ship dates and if they had solid information, they wouldn't have any reason to withhold from us.

So this is rather good news, which probably isn't true, but I hope it is, but probably isn't.... but really hope it is.
So I got a Amazon gift card yesterday, and Thought I sure would like to apply this to my 64 GB Prime tablet, as it hasn't be charged yet, and is still in a "holding pattern". So I got on Amazon chat support for the unteenth time this week, but instead of going through the normal customer service, I went through the billing side, b/c I wanted to apply a new gift card to an existing order... well, after they applied it, I had one more question for them...
Mek, thank you. One more question if you don't mind. Do you have any updated info. on a possible shipping date for the order?
Puneet:You are welcome and It will be ship very soon
Me:Really, because as of yesterday, Amazon customer support told me they had no other info. on the item and still had not yet received any supply from the manufacturer??? My shipping date on the order still says Jan. 9th, 2012... is this date just a place holder for the item, as I have assumed; as it has been the same date since I ordered on Nov. 22.
Regardless, your system says that the ASUS Transformer Prime TF201-C1-GR 10.1-Inch 64GB Tablet (Amethyst Gray) will be shipping very soon? That's good news if indeed true.
Puneet:I would like to tell you that the date which we give to our customer is the maximum time, but we try to deliver the package asap, and yes it is true
Me:Thanks for the info., you may have just made my day. =)
Have a good day.
Puneet:Its my pleasure to help you.
Is there anything else I can do for you today?
Me:No thank you

I don't know. Usually this is retailers over-estimating supplies and taking more pre-orders than can fulfilled. If this is a traditional relationship then Amazon, Best Buy, etc. had no idea how many units would be available. The are simply taking orders and possibly reporting this number to Asus as an idea of how many they need to supply; however, that does not mean Asus is capable of producing the amount to demand.
A good retailer will limit the amount of preorder to something reasonable; however, a lot just keep taking orders until they get the manufacturer says "Whoa too many" then start cancelling or pushing off to the next shipment. Most smaller retailers are not even in this mix at all and take pre-orders without even a chance of getting or actually ordering a single unit.
In Amazon's case, I bet they kept taking orders until they got an idea of how many they were going to get, then cancelled the overage. Many times retailers will blame the manufacturer, but this is usually an estimation error on the retailers side. Over taking orders is a good thing for retailers as most people will just pick a different product at the same retail (especially when they give out credits or coupons for your "inconvenience"), so its a win win especially since they can just say so and so didn't make enough.
Of course, there can sometimes be contractual agreements on volume to be provided, which is probably why Best Buy and Gamestop did not cancel orders. They probably estimated correctly or had agreements for so many units and only pre-ordered that many. Of course, this would limit supplies to other retailers without agreements in a low supply situation.
I honestly don't see anything here that would be Asus' fault. Maybe there was a hardware issue that limited supply, but there is always something with new devices going through new production procedures. So honestly I think this is just an "out" used by the retailers to offset blame for them over-committing pre-orders. The wifi issue was detected in preview units and there was plenty of time for Asus to fix production issues before the "officially" announced launch.
^ I work in distribution so I'm trained to blame the manufacturer. What you posted makes perfect sense though. I'm just throwing out WAGs in between checking my email.

Yeah, but it looks like the Fire has a high return rate which is expected to negatively affect their financials for the year.
http://seekingalpha.com/article/312394-kindle-fire-returns-could-hit-amazon-s-earnings
It really sort of matters how many people keep your device and not how many you sold. And I expect a larger number of returns in Jan/Feb.
Anybody can sell a lot of crap. Lets see what Asus finally delivers before we know who need who. Although, honestly, Amazon doesn't need anyone, so not sure its a fair comparison.

its a joke big guy. humor. google it.
First and foremost....I got my Prime today. Its perfect. No light leakage...No WIFI issues, GPS works, No loose screen, Update took 5 minutes and had no issues. Keep the faith people...There are good primes out there...We just see a majority of the issues here on the forums.
Now to the order of business. I am a seasonal Best Buy employee (Senior at Purdue University who works here during christmas...mainly for the sick employee discount). You CAN CURRENTLY get the Grey dock at ANY Best Buy store. They are still not available to order online and you will not find the device in the store that day, but they are obtainable. The process is as follows.
1) Simply walk into said Best Buy.
2) Head to the computer department and find someone who does not look stupid.
3) Tell them you would like to do an OMS order for the Asus transformer prime dock.
4) They will say they cant do it and cant find a SKU.
5) Give them this sku: 4175048
6) They will be able to OMS ship either to that store...or to your house.
7) Wait a week or so, depending on when you order...(Our trucks come from the Chicago warehouse every Thusday night so it totally depends on when that store gets shipments from its warehouse)
8) Recieve your dock ahead of schedule.
This does work as I have done it for myself and have a dock on our truck due this Thursday the 5th.
Just as a quick update on the units themselves...I have just today started to see them moving through RSS (our investory software). Only 2 of them were shipped to the largest store in central Indiana which I bet are OMS or some sort of .Com orders. You are not able to OMS the actual tablet.
-Quix.
I will try this tomorrow. If it works, you are awesome. Thanks!
Wtf, why not. Ups usually doesn't arrive till about 5 pm so I have some free time thanks!
Ill kiss you if this works. Tired of missing online stocks that run out in <20 minutes.
Is this able to be done over the phone with your local Best Buy store? :O
Thanks for this appreciate it but I do hate to inform you your GPS may work from a technical standpoint( like everyone's) but will not work as a real world practical turn by turn navigation device.
You should indeed be able to do this over the phone assuming you are ok giving them your credit card information over the phone as well.

How would one go about doing this on the phone? I ordered my prime over the phone, because I had to do financing, because for some reason I couldn't find out how to do it online. I was transfered about 4 times to different departments until I was connected with someone who ordered my prime and let me do financing.
So if I want to get the keyboard, and use the "magic OMS word," would I call the 1-8xx number? (I don't know it off the top of my head) And once I call, who do I ask to talk to?
I wrote this early in the morning after I finally gave up on the prime. Here is the link to the story.
http://nerdtechnics.com/?p=11
The site is clean, I miss my Prime.....
OK...lol. yeah its better you linked to that story as its more like a blog. Very detailed on your experience. You left everyone hanging though. What they end up doing or you doing after they wouldn't give you cash back for gift cards. It was free gift cards anyways so I would've just pulled the small cash amount out n placed another order. Don't let best buy taint your yearning for the Prime...lol.
Haha, sorry, was getting late and needed to end it quickly. I asked the cashier to go get a manager because he couldn't give me cash for the gift card. Manager came over, I just said that I had been over at customer service for the last hour and a half and that I'd like cash for this gift card because i am no longer going to shop at this store.
I just got so annoyed with the waiting game. Anyone I spoke with had absolutely no idea what i was talking about most of the time. Also, the computer guy that came over to check the Prime, he actually says, "why don't you just get an ipad"? I wanted to slam his head against the counter.

Cool story bro.
Thanks for taking the time to share that story.
I've always detested BestBuy. They're the "Hot Dog On A Stick" of consumer electronics stores. Too well lit... Too plasticky... Forget about getting anything even remotely obscure there -- too few choices on most things.
'Won't even get started on how borderline criminal Geek Squad is. $25(ish) to "optimize" my e-reader?
Being an IT professional, I advise as many folks as possible to avoid that store and go elsewhere... anywhere...
That's MY story, sort of...
Actually the main difference was, on that Friday when they wouldn't put a Saturday delivery sticker on for you? They went the extra mile for me, and SENT IT GROUND (after I had paid $29 for overnight shipping 4 weeks earlier), causing it to take another 12 days to reach me in a padded envelope, after riding via Rail from California to North Carolina. The box was quite crushed, though the Prime seemed okay... at first.
oh, and they charged me for the pre-order immediately, even though the policy says "we won't charge until we ship" so I had paid for it almost 6 weeks earlier.
The good news? I got my Prime for free. Yep. BB provided a FULL REFUND. I should be happy yes? Sort of. The Prime ended up RMA'ed, and I am without it once again. The saga continues. It was agreed to send me another one, yesterday, overnight. And yes, I agreed to let them open and test it since I am NOT going to be without it again, but instead of shipping it yesterday - Thursday they forgot... whoops. Now I wait till next week, unless I can get Asus to do a Saturday sticker...This is like the movie groundhog day... it literally never ends.... and I so lived my OG transformer... It's like I am being punished for wanting something more... The Prime I got paused, hung and lagged on virtually everything I did with it. It was cosmetically nice, but never saw a single GPS satellite. Wifi... fair... Light bleed, not terrible, but enough to cause concern, in every way it was ... not much better than my TF101 except in looks, and took a better picture. Not nearly as slick as I had hoped. Looked wonderful with the dock though... Horrible to keep clean. ICS is cool, but again, it lags so often, ... well maybe the nbew one will be better, or enough updates will come along to get things right... sigh

Being an IT professional, I advise as many folks as possible to avoid that store and go elsewhere... anywhere...

I wouldn't shop at Best Buy, but they are the only place near me that sells the diamond and gold plated HDMI cables to give me better HD. They are worth the $75.

And of course, only if they print the words "Monster" on them.. Cause anything else is just not worth it..

Thanks for posting this. I am glad to know I wasn't alone. That is pretty awesome that they gave you a free one, hopefully you get it soon! My device did work pretty well. Still got hung up every once in a while but I just couldn't spend that kind of money and not have at least the build quality done well and I am not dealing with that many dead pixels. If it were just a couple, that's another story.

I actually had a Best Buy rep tell me I will "lose pixels" if I didn't get the monster cable. I was about to buy a 55" LG, but left the store.

They seriously shouldn't be allowed to get away with that type of ****. Glad you left the store!

Maybe that is why I don't get a great signal with my D-Link dual band gaming router, I didn't buy the solid gold packet protecting ethernet Cables! It has nothing to do with having a three floor residence.
On the other hand, I did work there for three years so I do know how to game the system. Due to the one year ADH I have only had to pay 99 a year to upgrade my laptop to a newer version.

Prime still flying off the shelves, how many do you think have been sold? Also it's interesting that nowinstock indicates that only Amazon and Gamestop have been receiving shipments lately.
In fact, for the last almost week . . . the only company that seems to have any significant stock has been GameStop. Maybe Amazon is getting a bunch and selling them on preorder and they never make it to the rest of the public.
Still, does the lack of stock not seem strange? We are now 3 months post launch and they are still hard to find. It must mean that either they are selling so fast that no one can keep up . . . or they are slowing production until they can figure out how to make them reliable.
I am inclined to believe that it is a combo of the two with more emphasis on the latter at this point.
It is very strange. I have been looking at Best Buy.com every day. If they get any more in before my final Return Date, I am going to get a new one. If they do not, I am still up in the air.
I always search all of the Best Buy stores in the Indianapolis area, and only a couple of stores have had any at all in the past 30 days. This is nearly 3 months after these started hitting US shelves, and you still cannot buy one.
That is very strange and weird to me. Anyone, by now, should be able to walk into a store and get a Transformer Prime. Heck, I bet you will be able to walk into a store and buy one of the new Transformer Prime models before you can the Prime Tf201.
This far into production, these things should be everywhere. If the sales are so good, and if the Satisfaction rate is REALLY below 1% (which I would have to see actual valid data, cause I do not believe it) why can't I go buy one in a store?

Have you tried going in the store and asking them if you can do an "OMS order" and provide them the SKU# of the prime? Thats what I did when I did my prime exchanges but after the 3rd I decided to cancel my order and got a refund. And my local Bestbuy never had any primes in stock nor will they have it. Its pretty much a straight from warehouse to you or to the store of your choice even if they are out of stock online.
I'd say... OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!!!!!!
Sent from my tablet thing with XDA Premium.
Whoa it looks like Walmart got some in stock this morning

Anyway, no telling.
I'd say lack of supply is certainly not because everybody's running out to grab them... I'd go with option two, they slowed production after the holidays and aren't ramping it up again at all. They'll keep them crawling out until the next two models are out.
175,000. Just a guess. It's probably much less since the damn thing has been out of stock forever. It's not that they are selling out of a lot of stock fast because clearly with the trackers they come in and go out of stock so quickly that each place is only receiving a handful at a time.
They have basically sold all of them since no one has them in stock.

I think this is probably the case, but not for the reason you're thinking. While it is certainly the case that manufacturers ramp up production for the holiday season and slow it down afterward, we have to remember that these units can take months to reach store shelves after being built. Asus has said repeatedly that they vastly underestimated demand for the TP, and that's probably because the batch that was supposed to be sufficient to weather the holiday rush was ordered months beforehand, before all the pre-orders were even in. I speculate that the current lack of supply has to do with a mad holiday rush that they weren't prepared for, still haven't recovered from, and is exacerbated by the (presumably) large number of units they've been forced to ship to replace defective first batch units.
I'd say easily over 175,000-200,000+. Watch what I tell ya lol
Tactics such as this might also have a part to play as asus might well be seeking alternative assemblers to look for ..I have a feeling that the TFP was assembled by wistron (but my memory is shyte and it was most probably someone else lol)
If the Prime has sold that many... I guess my question is how many of that was returned back to Asus?
In Australia since they first arrived at JB Hi Fi, it seems like it is a combination of not enough stock and they are selling like hotcakes when they do come in. The Whirlpool Australia forums "where to buy" threads seem to have random posts about them being in stock somewhere and then out of stock not long after. In Japan when I was there recently, the TF101 and the Slider were the Asus tablets on display , no sign of the TF201 so I have no idea what is going on...

As the cnet article stated, less than 1%.

I dont believe that since its coming from a biased source. Id believe it if it was coming from the retailers themselves, but that was never included in the article.
We know Asus' tablet sales were down 24% in Q4 from their earnings report so there weren't a lot sold then. This came out today which shows Q1's pretty much tanked for tablets with Apple and the KF projected to sell 12.5MM of the 15MM tablets to be sold in Q1. So clearly there's not a lot of demand for Market-capable Android tablets, Asus' or anyone elses, with 2.5MM in projected sales for the quarter. Asus held 10% market share before the KF and NookC were released so that would amount to 250K in sales (TF101 + TF202) from January through March.
Tablet Sales Suffer Holiday Hangover, iPad 3 To Bring Relief
Trefis Team, Contributor
Tablet sales this quarter could be suffering from a hangover from the holiday season. According to a DigiTimes report, the global tablet shipments will decline by 30% in Q1 2012 compared to Q4 2011.
The report also mentioned that out of a total of expected 15 million tablet shipments in Q1, Apple’s iPad 2 and iPad 3 share will be 11 million, and Amazon’s Kindle Fire share will be 1.5 million.
Such a large decline is not good news for the tablet industry, especially Apple, because the iPad accounts for about 13% of our $550 price estimate for Apple stock.
The launch of the iPad 3, expected to be introduced later this quarter, however, could help boost the tablet industry and be part of the reason why buyers might hold off from making purchases in the beginning months. Our price estimate for Apple stock is about 10% above the current market price.

Can you prove that there has only been less than 1% of the sold primes have been returned? Do you thinks an Asus personnel would actual tell you the truth of primes returned even if it would make them look bad? They already mentioned the aluminum back was a problem and do you think adding that they have for an example a 10% return rate would help? Look at the xda forum and all any polls taken about the prime, do you see any that was 1% or below not satisfied owners or returned tablets? Thats why third parties are much more believable than ones numbers released by the company themselves.
