[Q] Wi-fi emulator - HTC Rezound

Is there some sort of wi-fi emulator out there? Amazon app of the day won't let me download some of the apps, but 4G is twice as fast as my wi-fi connection at home.

Hello, and welcome to XDA
I would love to help answer your question, however your post is somewhat ambiguous.
If you could, please indicate in more detail what the particular problem is.
I am going to take a leap here and assume that your problem is that wireless tether sets up an ad-hoc network instead of a regular wifi network.
however if this is not the case, then please let me know. I will do the best I can to help you.

Hmm I was wondering the same thing. His problem isn't anything to do with teather. It's that Amazon will have free apps that say they require a WiFi connection on phone to download do to there size.
If your in an area where you can't connect to a WiFi network Amazon will not let you download. Even if your on 4g for some reason the server will only allow a WiFi connected phone to download which really sucks.
So he wants to be on his 4g connection but fool Amazon's server into thinking he is connected via WiFi

I was annoyed at the same thing. If someone finds a solution, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Is this using the Amazon market place? If so.. can u just visit the regular site and skip the app for those particular apps.

Yeah this is for the Amazon Market. Main problem is that Amazon only allows certain apps to be downloaded over wifi. It sucks and as of yet there is no workaround that I know of. I'm sure some form of proxying would work but that's just as much of a pain as doing any kind of workaround. Amazon just needs to remove this limitation as a whole. I mean really where's the benefit for them to have you use your wifi connection vs your mobile connection.

you trying to get monopoly?
haha me too...

Removed my "annoyed" message. lol .. ignore this.

I just grabbed that using 4g, but I've had that wifi issue before.
EDIT: I guess I didn't get it with 4g. It looked like it had downloaded and said update but then I saw it was hung up and it started after I switched to wifi.
Quite silly at this point, they could just give you the large data download warning that I believe the Market gives you.
If they hear from enough people I would bet they would change it. They started a packing feedback after I returned a hdd 3 times and bought somewhere else due to poor packing. I'm sure they had many complaints.

Won't do it with Grandfathered Unlimited Data plans... anyway, by looking at data usage they can see if you are tethering or not no matter what app you use to do it. LOL.
$15 for a feature that's suppose to be free no thanks, I may work for T-Mobile but I'm not paying extra for something thats is a froyo feature by default.

Some people are getting Text Messages from T-Mobile stating that they have "some how" picked up that they are tethering via the Google Code, and the native applications and are asking for $15 fee for doing it. there is a thread floating around here somewhere on it.

even though the native Application has a WEP code input option. the Wi-FiTether.apk has a MAC address white listing option along with encryption options so it will only allow certain devices to connect to yours. which i really like. I've been driving down the highway doing 65mph and had people try to connect to my wi-fi that i am letting my wife use for her netbook.
MAC filtering will not allow them to get to the web....
thats my reason for wanting it.
I just use the one built into my phone, they don't charge me and it works great...
Does anyone have the APK of the one that came with the phone? I'm not on stock rom and would like to try the original one
Well in all regards it's a good thing I searched on this subject before I posted anything. In any case does this app let you limit your bandwidth when using it as a wi-fi hotspot? or is there any app that will let me limit my speeds when using the wi-fi?

Tethering for the evo3d

Ive seen a few people post info about pdanet in other threads when people are talking about rooting but didnt see a thread completely dedicated to it. If there is one and i missed it sorry. Iam like many others and a littke upset bout there being no wifi tethering but just happen to run across info in another thread about pdanet. For those who dont know if you download pdanet from the market and follow the instructions you can tether through your usb cable just fine. I posted this bc i did not know this until today and it saved me from adding tethering to my plan. Just hoping i can return the favor

I tried it today and it requires the sprint tethering package. Best to stick with easytether until root hits.

im not sure but i think the easy tether is the same as pdanet. I just happen to see pdanet 1st. Only reason i would see payin sprint is if you absolutely must have wireless tethering

What about Bluetooth tethering, does that work also?
I didnt try the bluetooth but there was an option for it......my girlfriend recovered all her mp3s off our laptop today wirelessly im guessin thats what she used
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
wifi tether is nice i used it all the time. But untill we have root I would just use easytether, its free and it keeps you charged up while you are using it. I never seen the other one you are talking about so I cant say if easy is better. But like I said easy is free and its been out for a long time.
Im glad you didnt pay sprint for it
bmoreboy02 - I could be mistaken but that sounds more like Bluetooth file transfer using OBEX (whatever that means) than Bluetooth tethering aka Bluetooth DUN (Dial Up Networking).
The reason for my interest in PDAnet is that it includes a Bluetooth connection. I greatly prefer wireless connections (WiFi or Bluetooth) to wired connections (USB) even if wireless is slower. With a wired connection I'm always breaking connectors or cables, or losing the cable altogether. (Although I never owned a Palm Pre, I liked the idea of wireless charging to eliminate ALL cabling and connectors.) And the cost of PDAnet is minimal, not a factor for me.
Anyway I'd be glad to hear of any successes/failures with Bluetooth tethering on the EVO 3D, that's the one thing keeping me from ordering one now. (Yeah I suppose I could just buy one, try it out and return it if I don't like its capabilities...)
Yea im not 100% sure how she did it i also noticed the evo comes preloaded with a file transfer app so she mite of used that....also if its true pdanet refuses to help the devs on here ill probally delete it and get the easy tether. Either way just glad im not payin sprint lol.

Yes it has built in USB and WIFI but both need the tether plan add-on to work

it's an employee referral plan. i'm not sure how you would go about getting it, but i used to have an employee plan working for a 3rd party dealer and after i quit they converted me over to this plan. it's $40/mo + $10 for 4g, gives you 500 min with unlim txt/data/gps/tether etc.

Google removes tethering apps from Market for Sprint phones???

Don't know this has been noticed or mentioned before but it looks Sprint may have forced Google's hand & had them remove all of the tethering apps. I just rooted a friend's Evo Shift for him & noticed none of the tether apps were on the Market. Then checked from my phone & got this:

I noticed them slowly doing this... Best thing to use is Market Enabler for root users, or download the apk from another site.

either way, i back up all my apps for this very reason. you never know when one of them won't be available anymore.

Hopefully it means we keep unlimited data on phones for another year or two.
Just did a search some popped up but get WiFi tether with yellow WiFi symbol it allows ps3 network to work I forget if its adhoc or other.

So what?
All the ROMs you can install for the Evo 3D include either wifi tether and/or unlocked hotspot, anyways.

I wonder if Sprint is hoping that root users buy their expensive tethering plan or stop using illegal tethering methods and free up some network traffic. I doubt either will happen.

tethering apps gone from Android Market?
Something is lost in the translation of that story, or it's totally made up.
Lookup "Wireless Tether for Root Users" on the Android Market. It's there
along with a few others. Frankly, I don't see much change from over a month ago. Pretty much the same variety of tethering apps as before.
Author's webpage for the app I mentioned is still on code dot google dot com.
Look up "android-wifi-tether" on that website for the specific page.
It's the one I downloaded over a month ago and it's still there today.
Works great.
Hmmm...have to check out that Hotspot hack. Sounds very interesting and possibly a cleaner way to achieve the same thing.
None of the tethering apps are still in the market for me. Nothing shows up when I search for them.

Is it possible....

To have a 3g data connection and a wifi connection working simultaneously yet independently of each other?
I want to purchase an air stash wireless media server so I can carry more of my music around with me.
The problem is when this thing is linked to my phone I won't have a 3g connection(because it connects as a wifi network)
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Why do you specifically need 3G when there's wifi around?
There is a way. If I get off work early enough I will see if I can get it changed. Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Well the airstash has a wifi transmitter to connect to the phone to transfer and stream files, so if I'm not around wifi but want to use that I have to sacrifice a data connection because 3g turns off when connected to wifi
Edit:
Wow thanks, that is incredibly generous.
I don't want to take up a ton of your time so if it isn't too complex I could probably do it if pointed in the right direction.

Why not just use Google music? I think it holds like 20,000 songs, its free, and works on any data connection
I've used Google music, I dedicated it to standout tracks but it has reached its end a while back and my phone is already refined to the point I don't want to move anything off it. I've been using box and dropbox, but my box account if full now too and dropbox is reaching that point in the next few weeks, so I figure the airstash and a 256gb sdxc card should last me a bit longer.
I know there seems like no reason to carry so much music around but once it leaves my phone and goes on my desktop hard drive it'll never be listened to again, essentially a music graveyard, so I try my best to delay the inevitable.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I know there has to be a way, and I think I've seen it before..
The phone is fully capable of running both Wifi and 3G/4G network at the same time, because when you're on WiFi and you send/receive a MMS, then it does upload/download via data.
I'll look into it for you.

It would work, but it would sure take you a while to get that working properly..
I would think that you could somehow tweak a file to allow them both since, as I said before, you can be on WiFi and download an MMS, which can go over 4G.
There's gotta be a way to trick android that it's downloading an MMS but it's really connecting you to 4G.
However, I have no idea how to do that, I'm not a developer.
I feel you would need some way of telling each individual application what connection to use in order for this to work right.

I think your right.
But the downside to that is when you actually go to really use a WiFi network, the app will continue to run on Data.
Hmmm, well if a governor or a toggle were implemented, to determine what apps use what connection under what circumstances, I'm thinking it might be a good route to take

Doesn't putting the phone in hotspot mode access Data and repeat it over Wifi? So isn't the answer to simply put the phone in hotspot mode? I know the phone can still access the data while in hotspot mode, so external devices should also be able to talk to the android device as well; over the wifi correct? Unless there is a build in firewall w/port blocking... but I would put my bets on file sharing ports being open.

port forwarding is not setup on a laptop or phone (at least not only). You have to open the port on your router, assign, if possible, fixed IPs to your laptop as well as phone and then it should work. some routers also allow you to reserve a certain IP address for a certain end user (e.g. laptop or phone) which will help you if you do not want to give fixed IPs but use DHCP (the way I do it)

For 3G you do not need to open anything as it depends on your provider. For your router there is one website that describes the process for nearly all routers, but I forgot the name.
Portforward.com maybe yes, or Google your routers name and open port

Can anyone who has utorrent or ttorrent or any of these torrent apps say what they did from install to 1st torrent to get it working?
I assume that over 3G I shouldnt need to tweak anything yet downloading does absolutely nothing. Over WiFi I get the same.
I can pick up most things but really don't get port forwarding and not even sure that is the problem. I would love to be able to use torrent apps but I just dont know how.

If you have T-Mobile, they usually block p2p traffic.
