Okay so I am new to the whole rooting and custom ROMs thing I went according to this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145 I used OPTION E (rooting 2.3.3) that worked fine and installed fine, so apparently now I have a routed device, Now when i try to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228436 It gives me an error not enough space on the device.
Any advice would be appreciated but please give tutorials aswell when giving advice.
P.S when i load in recovery mode it says Can't access to '/system/csc/XFV/system'.
I do not know if something is wrong or if I even have a rooted device, and please bear in mind I am a noob at this whole rooting and custom ROMS thing.
Thanks in advance.
Did you wipe everything?

Hello I am very happy that you tried to help but your instructions were very unclear and unorganized please if you do not mind could you rewrite them in step by step form in detail as your first set of instructions were not possible for me to understand and yes I am English.
What i mean by not understandable is your said " after that power off and go again in recovery mod instead of recovery mod"
P.S remember I am a noob
Its mean 1st you download the cwm5 then go to recovery mode then flash it....after that you reboot again into recovery mode then you will see the cwm v5..hen you can continue to wipe data or factory reset then flash you custom rom using cwm5....that it.....hmmm if i help pls dont shy to press thanks ....

But you do require custom recovery to flash the kernel from. It depends on the rom and the kernel. Certain kernels cannot be flashed with few roms.
Have you installed the custom recovery first? and if not then that key combination would reset your phone.
hey... if i root my phone with "gingerbreak"....... will it not let me to enter the recovery mode on pressing the 3 button at startup.....????

Gingerbreak only roots your phone. You need to install custom recovery which allows you to flash custom kernels and roms.
HOME + VOL DOWN + POWER key combination would reset your phone if you don't have custom recovery installed. Rooting just gives you superuser access.

Custom recovery is a must, for installing kernels and roms xd
all seem ok... but here is the order i did it in!
1.root using gingerbreak
2.Instal custom recovery with ROM manager, cmw recovery installed
3.Put the kernel in sd card, flash from recovery!
Job done! happy Flashing!
Steps which I followed.
1. Install "Gingerbreak" and root your phone.
2. Switch to Android Keyboard.
3. Back up all the data using Titanium backup.
4. Paste the kernel zip on SD card.
5. Install "Terminal Emulator."
6. Download amon_ra_recovery_installer.zip
7. Extract the contents of the above zip file to the root of your SD card.
8. Open "Terminal Emulator." and type "su" command and the superuser will ask you for permission, grant it and you can notice that the "$" sign will change into "#".
9. Type
Code:
sh /sdcard/rf.sh
and press Enter. The phone will reboot into custom recovery.
10. Create a NAND backup.
11. Flash the kernel zip.
12. Reboot.
Happy Flashing

That's an easy way to do it But dont forget to make a NAND backup after installing your chosen recovery! [very important]. This will be the key to restoring your phone in case anything goes wrong when flashing your chosen kernel (or ROM).

i assume since it is rooted that you already have clockwork recovery installed.
hold power and vol down to boot into recovery
select wipe cache/factory restore
select install from zip
select the rom i showed you
reboot!
you must put the rom in the root of your tab first
use androzip to move it there

sorry but still a newbie here and i might get annoying to some peeps here but just very cautious on how this would work. so i'm going to ask question
factory restore - does this mean i'm going a clean up and unrooting my device? from the steps above? is the end product going to have the touchwiz update or is this the touchwiz update with a email sync problem? where does the touchwiz update happen? i didn't see that step above?
lastly.. is there a video i watch to see this in action.
galaxytabhacks.com is a bit slow on updating their video's on how to update a rooted GT 10.1 with touchwiz update...
thank you all for the current post and i'm sure that there are many users here that will appreciate this information.. (for all you do please post and cheer on the peeps that helped us out).

ok.. so go to clockwork recovery - i know how with that two options (icons by pressing those buttons)
make a backup - don't know how?
factory reset - i'll read up
install zip from sdcard - done it before
install - if i find it i'll select install
reboot - hopefully
so how does the backup work - any steps.. where can i find that option. thanks again for all these information..
in the main clockword recovery menu select back up and restore ...select backup
these are all in the main menu of cwr... dont worry about the wipe/factory restore just select it and do it.....make sure you put the new rom in the root of your tab first. just like you did with the root.zip when you rooted
put the new rom zip in your tab
boot into cwr
make a back up
do a wipe/factory restore
select install from zip
select choose zip
select the rom zip you downloaded and put in the root of your tab
install
reboot
this is from the first link i gave you
Here is the clockwork mod menu
- Reboot system now (self explanatory )
- Apply update from SDcard. (when you connect your device to your computer it will show up as tablet. The SDcard that cwm refers to is simply your device storage. Always make sure to copy install.zips to the root directory of your tablet storage.) You use this when applying an update for a specific ROM if that is what the ROM developer says.
- Wipe Data/ Factory Reset You should always do this before you install a new ROM or if you are having minor issues with your device.
- Wipe cache partition Think of this as the lite version of whats above . If you do above though it doesn't hurt to do this too.
- Install zip from SDcard Use this to install new ROMs.
- Back up and Restore
- Mounts and Storage use this to connect your device to your computer when in recovery mode. It is also possible to transfer files to your device while in this mode.
- Advanced What you are interested in here is something called dalvik cache, you want to wipe this too before installing any new ROM
- Power off
this is the main menu of clockwork recovery
backupand restore...wipedata/factory reset...install zip reboot are all on this menu

yeo hope u enjoy the custom rom and stuff
Hello everyone at XDA, Today i have an issue with my Galaxy Ace. I decided to upgrade my Galaxy Ace at version 2.3.4 (Rooted) to this CyanogenMod i found today @http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490867.
So, after placing the custom rom into my sdcard, i booted my phone into recovery mode and pressed the update option. It seemed to update normally. After the installation was completed, the phone rebooted and after the normal Galaxy Ace startup, Instead of the Samsung logo flashing, It showed a word "ANDROID" with spaces in between and in Times New Roman. Then, after 10 minutes, it was still at that same black screen with the "ANDROID". Then, i tried going into recovery mode and i tried to factory reset it, it showed
"E: format_volume : rfs format failed on /dev/stl13
Formatting /cache...
E: format volume: rfs format failed on /dev/stl14
Data wipe complete."
Then, i tried rebooting the phone. The same thing appeared.
So, Can anyone help me PLEASE?
PS, I can still access my Download Mode, Recovery Mode and Dump mode.
Also, im a noob at this, can someone post a detailed tutorial or something helpful? Will give thanks and $$$ if it worked

U need to use clockwork mod recovery 5.0.2.6 to flash cm roms. Older 4.0.0.9 might not work. And do format data/factory reset prior flashing
Sent from your phone
The Only Problem you have is that you dont have CWM Recovery Installed on your PHone. You need it for flashing custom ROMs on the phone. Get the latest version in the Forums and flash it via the instructions given.
Then try Reflashing the ROM.
How am i supposed to install CWM when my phone cannot start up?
Also, i cannot factory reset using recovery mode, If that is possible, How do i connect my phone to the computer using recovery/dump/download mode?
If you don't have the CWM recovery zip in your sd card, paste it. (By Card Reader) Or if you've got it, go into recovery mode and just flash that zip. [Install zip - Choose zip - Select]
After which you can flash CM7

Boot the phone into recovery mode
Flash the CWM file that you said is already on the phone
Reboot the phone into recovery mode again - this time it should load CWM recovery instead of stock Samsung.
Select to do a Factory Reset and repeat again
Select to Clear Cache and repeat again
Go to Advance Menu and select to Clear Dalvik Cache
Return to the Main Menu
Select to install zip from SD Card NOT INSTALL UPDATE.ZIP
Browse to your new ROM and install
Reboot the phone and hopefully it will boot up.
If not, I suggest you go to samfirmware.com and find a stock ROM for your phone and flash it with Odin by following a guide which you can find easily here or on Google... there's even Video Guides on YouTube so you don't have to read anything.
flash cwm from stock recovery.

I think you needed to use with CWM 5+
Try to get back into CWM and root your old ROM.
I am very bad at this... So I dont really know how to do that... could you provide any steps or an tutorial?
Edit:well I tried to format sd card and system but nothing. Could someone provide a link to gingerbread 2.3.5 and a way Icould put it on my phone? Also, could I do anything with samsung kies?

NO NO. Don't use kies. Kies sucks a lot. Search the developer forum for "clockworkmod 5" flash it normally (I suppose you already know how-to since you have CWM4) after getting CWM5, flash ICS/CM9 Normally. no need to flash GB
Here is cwm 5

Glad we could help, be carefull next time. Always try to use newest software.
Ughh I forgot to root my phone right after flashing. So I installed CWM before rooting.. how do I root now? And also I think it is still not working. The phone has been blue for about 2 minutes now. I followed the video exactly like it was.
EDIT: damn... so after getting the blue screen again I thought of going back to normal ver and maybe some other custom ROM... but guess what.... It doesnt work anymore... I did just like before.Went into download, used ODIN to download 2.3.5 french ver to my phone, odin says PASS. But last time It had booted correctly by 4:40 or so. This time like 10 minutes have passed and still rebooting. What to do now?
EDIT2: Am I allowed to make a new thread since the problem is not with cm9 anymore?
here, check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291327
download it and flash it through stock recovery
i dont think you need to root it before flashing this (i didnt)
i just flashed this over the stock rom (non rooted) and then flashed cm7.2
i too had such problems but dont worry flash some stock rom with odin then it wont boot so remove your battery and place it again.now go to stock recovery wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition then reboot.then use cwm 5 to flash cm 9.

I have that, and I am trying to flash cm9.
So.. I`m kinda at the beginning again... I tried some other roms, but non were as good looking as that cm9 ICS beta 6.
Could anyone give me step by step tutorial? Because I did EXACTLY like in the video. 2 times. And it still didnt work. Please help.
Well here what have done for flash th rom for the first time:
-I was on gingerbread 2.3.6 XWKS2 (my device was root by super one click and i flash CWM 5 via recovery)
-Then i put the rom in my sdcard, reboot in recovery (press home and power button)
'
-Into recovery i wipe cache partition and wipe data, go in advanced and wipe dalvik cache go back to the main menu and select install zip from sdcad choose the file you have(here it's cm_ace-ota-eng.01042012) then press yes wait a while (the rom are installing) then when it's done select reboot system now.
-The first boot take a while (and i have the blue screen too you just have to wait but if it's exceed 5-10 minute try to reflash the rom)
I do that will all rom i have install and i don't have any problem. Hope i help you

Hey, this is exactly like in the video, I tried that. But this time I am going to first use odin to put XWKS2 2.3.5 on my phone, and then root using SuperOneClick (Last time I used udp1 or something like that) and then try again.
