you tried varying the dsp settings ?? as extreme settings would give you that kind of result and at end can damage speakers also
I also have this problem. It's getting really annoying, especially when it is quiet.
I am running Cyanogenmod 7.1 Grif07 RC1 and flashed the fixes.
Going to install a different ROM if I can't find a solution. Will post here if I find anything.
Solved my problem with DSP Manager.
Been scouring the forums...
I changed my CPU Governor to Smartass and changed my min frequency to 245. Glad I did that, DSP Manager is not making the crackle anymore and my phone seems so much faster.
Should eat more battery life, but meh...

What does the processor have to do with the DSP manager making that crackling noise?

I noticed this problem when I set my minimum CPU speed to 125. Once I set it to 245 it worked perfectly.

I'm on the Community Rom V1.3 (flashed v1.2 kernel) and am having problems with my music quality. Any time I run anything while listening to music (via Pandora or my music app) the quality is poor. The music "skips" or has a "staticy".
Is anyone else having this problem?

Are you using the voodoo sound app from the market? If you couple that with the galaxy s tuner app you can do quite a bit for quality & volume. I haven't had anything like what you're getting though but I'm on the otb1.4 kernel.

No, I'm not using the voodoo sound app. However, I don't believe that is what was causing the problem. I believe my problem was related to CWM 3.0... so I flashed back to stock, flashed CWM version 2.5... and flashed the community rom v1.3. I'm waiting for my phone to reboot before checking to see if the problem is still there.

You're not referring to a "popping" sound, are you? If you are, then it's a known issue on Voodoo Kernel Version 8.

It's a similar sound to what you may have experience when downloading a bad Napster file back in the day. Or when listening to a poor vinyl record that is scratched a bit. I'll report back either way once I've restored.
The problem is still there. I'm surprised nobody else is having this issue as I've searched everywhere to no avail.
Thank you for taking the time to help.
As said above it is a voodoo sound v8 problem. It is mostly in regards to touch input we think, so if you sony use your phone while listening it's fine.
Or you can find an older kernel that doesn't implement v8 and enjoy the flawless glory of un glitch-y voodoo sound.

Thank you, Huntredgo. Perhaps you have a good kernel recommendation that I can flash over Community v1.3?
I attempted to flash imnuts' stock kernel (via Odin) over community v1.3 and I received the "permasung" when trying to reboot. Still trying to find a kernel that will solve the issue.

Do this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13644624&postcount=14
If you don't know it -> small latency errors caused higher frequency crackles, larger latency errors caused lower frequency pops.

The problem persists. I changed my input to bfq and can still hear the popping sound. Especially when I'm touching the screen in any manner.
I also tried older kernels.
Any other suggestions?

I hear lots of people like Volume+ from the market. I always liked PowerAmp. It was my fave music player for the longest time.
I'm not sure if dsp manager will work on miui or not but that will allow you to set some eq. Also equalizer (that's the app name) works well too.

it also has new sound drivers w/ higher quality settings... miui "may" be able to use that
worth a try....

If you want more battery,
Disable all animations, keep brightness at its minimum level, disable auto-sync, disable haptic feedback, disable 'touch sounds' etc.
I am making StockLite v7 now. It'll have even more battery and it'll be faster than v6.

I've already done that except for the auto-sync xD. I calibrated the battert yesterday and i'm waiting for it to discharge. My stock rom at the beginning consumed more battery and then a little lower so i supposed must be something similar with custom roms.
And it's not hot.

I disabled 3G, haptic and sound, the brightness is on automatic.
Other than that I didn't touch anything and the battery is very good, the ROM runs very smoothly.
Don't have any problem with that 'hot bug' either.
StockLite is awesome
And apparently tj will post a ICS theme in the near future so that's pretty cool.

Just WOW Keep up the good work, man.
EDIT : I just have a question. Since I've installed StockLite there's a steering wheel icon appearing in the status bar.
Apparently that's the car dock icon, but it appears randomly. So my question is, how do I get rid of that ? Since I can't send email or sms when it's on, it's kinda annoying.

my battery also get hot very hot when using 3g and sometimes when i wake up in morning its super hot. without using it.

Voodoo louder work just fine.
I have heard that the Beats audio (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728391) works for some and distorts for others. I was able to get it to install but haven't really tested it.

I messed with the volume using xxTweak on Ktoonsez's fluxx and ended up destroying sound on my phone calls. I got it back after resetting to default, fixing permissions and rebooting but I've been reluctant to mess with settings without knowing how I messed them up the first time. Not sure what corresponds to what in the options.
Hello,
I have a question about the volume while playing music.
Is it possible to reduce it further than the lowest limit ?
On my previous device (SGS 1), I used voodoo app, but I don't think that it's already available for the GS3...
(I ask for this because with my headphones it seems to be still quite loud)
Thanks in advance !

I would like to know that too !
I found a solution for this problem, in case there are people wanting to do this:
I installed Siyah kernel and you can reduce the headphone amplification through the tweaking app (I also installed CM9, but it should work without it)

The name of that "tweaking app" is Extweaks. It can be found on google play store.
Yes, you dont need anything extra for it. Only Siyah kernel is required and nothing else like CM9.
