Exiting Apps - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Most apps i have on my phone you just press the back button and they exit the apps but there are 2 in particular where you cant seem to exit the apps unless you press the home key and then kill the selected app in Task Manager (which usually results in a reboot so i use the Task Manager function in ZD box and that never causes a reboot) what im worried about is if i continue to do this my phone might become a little unstable, task killers are not particularly good to use and even though im only "killing" one app im wondering is there another way of exiting the app without having to go to ZD Box > Task Killer?

What apps are they? Just wondering because some apps have a specific exit button somewhere or another.
Some apps I have require me to hit menu then select exit, or have an exit button somewhere or in the case of Skype which requires users to select 'profile' or be on the main menu, then hit the menu button and select 'sign out'.

i need some help finding the correct file to replace

i removed the task manager from my fascinate because i don't use it and the phone works well without it, now i just noticed that when i long press the home button to switch between running apps, there is also a "task manager" button that well... brings up the task manager, how can i get rid of that button? i mean what is the file that brings that pop up screen with the apps running when you long press the home button?
please help guys, thanks.

Does the home button actually exits the app?

I notice that the pressing the home button while in an app works differently for different apps
For example in Google Maps, when I press the home button, it exits the program
However in the default browser, when I press the home button, it goes to the home screen but the app doesn't exit (it's still visible as running in the task manager)
How do I close the Browser? there's no option to exit it either
Press back button until you get to home screen. That's how you exit most of the applications. If you press the home button, most of the apps will keep running in the background.

This applies to the browser as well?

Yes, it applies to browser as well. You can close tabs before pressing back if you don't wanna press the button too many times
Or use dolphin browser which you can exit with only 2 clicks..press menu and select exit..

Another way of closing browser in 2 steps can be, open a new window and hit back button.

Or just hold home button > task manager > exit app you want
Why would you exit it anyway ? Android is made so that you don't need to actually exit your apps. Especially Browser.

Do you mean to say that when I go back to the home screen, the browser cuts off data usage automatically?
(Sorry, coming from Symbian, I'm a total Android noob! )
Browser is put into "idle" mode, so while the app is still kept in memory for quick resume, it doesn't use any CPU power or data.
If your device needs RAM, Android OS will automatically shut down the app to release some memory.

[Q] adding items to search button

Surprised I can't find anything about this one via google.
Is there a way to add items to the long-press of the search button and/or change the function of the single press.
Preferably, I'd like to change it, so when I single press the search button a shortcut of my choice is launched instead (in my case, a single click to open a Folder Organizer folder).
I have been doing this to launch task manager since long long time
Here is what you need to do:
1. Install launchkey app
2. Launch the app, and select the app you want it to open up
3. Long press search key, and map it to launch key permanently
4. Long press and it will launch the app mapped to launchkey
I found Launchkey this morning, bought & refunded it. When I tried to pick a custom app it didn't do anything at all. Custom menu worked though.
Sadly, even if Custom app worked, they don't allow a shortcut - just apps
Playing with ButtonRemapper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464). Doesn't allow shortcuts either, but at least one can map to Camera or Phone button instead of search. Oddly, mapping it to Phone caused the long press to activate Vlingo (or something like that). Dunno if I'm keeping, but will mess around.
Considering the customization of Android, I'm very surprised the default O/S doesn't let you map the button & long press to anything - or at least an app in the market!
It does; it allows to map based on application that tries to make use of it. On my phone, it was popping up 6-7 options along with launch key, with go sms pro, voice command, voice search, etc being some of them. The app needs to be coded to make use of it. Android supports this feature.

Stock Task manager

ok so the stock task manager is accessed by holding the home button.......
but i want to be able to get to that screen without holding the home button, on GB there was an app called JobManager.apk that looked exactly the same. i just want to be able to click the app as apposed to holding the power button and selecting task manager.
is this possible, is there an APK linked to the home button action that i can use as an app, or is that job/task manager only usuable through the home key??
check samsung apps / more services for application monitor
You could always give Go Taskmanager a try, it kills more tasks then the regular Task Manager.

[Q] Home Button > Recent Apps Window

Hi
I have used the search engine and tried google but I can't seem to find my answer. I am either terrible with search engines or I'm wording my problem poorly.
Basically, before I upgraded my S2 the home key would take me to the Task Manager. After upgrading my phone, it takes me to this "recent apps" interface, which I really don't like :\ it looks ugly and I have to clear each app I've used one by one.
Is there a way to disable this feature and have it so my phone goes straight to task manager when I hold the home button?
thanks, appreciate it.
I am using apex launcher. And under apex settings> behavior> home key action, you have the option to choose what the home button does.

There is a task manager button at the bottom of the recent apps list that will open the taks manager....
the recent apps list is not whats running, just what Recently been accessed by you, hence Recent Apps list.... sliding them does not close the app!
