Anyone know which wireless tether app works with the temp root? I've tried a few and a no go.
I've seen claims of barnacle working, but have yet to try it myself.

Barnacle works perfect. Thank you, and I hit your Ty button.
It can't stay connected though, since root is temp, correct?

I have Barnacle wifi tether running on my 3D with temp root. Works great, but yes it is temporary for now.
If the wireless part isn't necessary, pdanet works just fine without root.

I can temp root with no problems using my MacBook Pro and Fre3vo but no wireless tethering joy for me. Wireless Tether doesn't work at all. Barnacle gives no errors with the ad hoc connection, everything looks fine, even Snow Leopard's network diagnostics say that my internet is working fine, but no data is transmitted or received. I even tried all the tips/tricks in this thread, still no joy. Any suggestions?
PdaNet works ok with USB but is very unstable with Bluetooth.
BTW I had no problems at all with the EVO 4G either in ad hoc mode (early versions of Wireless Tether) or non ad hoc (whatever that's called, recent versions of WT).
I've tried most of the methods out there and the one in this thread has the highest success rate IMO. One important thing: check your apps and if you have "Super User" installed as an app, uninstall it first before trying the method in that thread.
Barnacle works perfectly for me under that setup.
Mike
I have the same issue. I also have a mac so it might be a mac issue. I get tether to work on my wifes shift so I know my computer works.

Thanks, the version of wireless tether mentioned in the linked post worked for me and I'm posting using it! I had tried every other version of WT on the google site, and every version of Barnacle I could find, none worked.
BTW I didn't have any error messages or have to change any settings as that page suggests, it just worked the first time.
This is the only version of WT that starts without errors for me, and I have to us WT as it can set up the softap network (Asus Transformer doesn't see ad-hoc). It sees it and connects, but can never get an IP Address.
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to htc evo 4g
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.

**Note** you need temp root

You mean this version, 3.1 beta 2? I've tried all the versions out there and some work perfectly some of the time, some never work, but none work all of the time. Can't figure out what changes, it's so random. I'm using the 3.1 beta 2 version to write this, but yesterday it didn't work and tomorrow I predict it won't work. BTW every time I start this version I get an error/warning message that some necessary thingamajigs aren't there, but I dismiss the message and it works anyway.
And of course I know I have to re-root after every restart etc.
works sporactically
Both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Andriod Wifi Tether work sporadically for me. It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't work.
is 4g tether working? I could not get it to work using barnacle
Barnacle works perfect for me with 4G...I haven't had one problem with it...
Supposedly, a beta version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" worked so long as you checked a box in the settings that was specific to HTC devices. I forget where there.
Hey everyone, just wanted to let you rooted android users out there know that you can tether to your touchpad pretty easily.
Go download the newest version of wifi tether 3.1beta5
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Install it
Run it
Menu-Settings
Change Device-Profile
Select Samsung Fascinate
Change Setup-Method
Select Softap for Samsung (Master)
Back to main screen
And now you are good to go. I have used this on my fascinate running the community rom, also read that someone had it running on their charge as well.
Have fun tethering.
Post back if this does or doesn't work for you, what device, and what rom/kernal you are running.

I cannot seem to connect Touchpad to any adhoc WiFi network. Really would like a fix for this one. iPads and iPhones connect to adhoc networks just fine.
I would manually enter the ssid, broadcast id, network id and ip address and forget dealing with dhcp if it's not working
maybe reboot? Mine works flawlessly on my android and touchpad
From what Im gathering, my HTC hero uses ad-hoc and the touchpad doesnt pick that up. Shame, but I have a feeling Im SOL.

Some android phones can only broadcast wifi via adhoc mode which is incompatible with the touchpad. Its not a matter of what program you choose, if your phone can only do ad-hoc wifi then it wont work. Try using bluetooth (Wireless Tether 2.0.7)

yes i know that. i'm not a dickhead.
the TP is supposed to support WPA2, however it had issues with WPA2 on my desire s.
This does not work for me Either-it keeps saying 'Tethering but with Errors-see Log' and the log cannot load the Sofap part...
I have a feeling some phones can only broudcast WiFi in Ad-Hoc-Like my HTC HERO It may be time to say goodbye to it after all...I was actually hoping the TouchPad would mean i dont need a new phone as most of my stuff (good Flash Web Browser/Email/Games/Whatsapp/Facebook) would be sorted between the two devices....Oh well....
I believe the easiest way to tether from your rooted Android to the Touchpad is if you're running CM7, to use the built in wi-fi tether as it works flawlessly!
i dont see this option for fascinate
Select Softap for Samsung (Master)
i only see WEXT (ad-hoc)
I've been trying to get my Epic 4G Touch running the wifi tether app 3.1-beta6 (only version I am aware works for my phone) but the View can't see the wifi connection. Perhaps something to do with the way wifi tether is running? Ad-Hoc mode? Anybody know of a work around?
I am running Wifi Tether v3.1 beta 2 on my Droid Charge with no issues. I currently have mine set to the Samsung Fascinate for the device. You could maybe try changing the device to see if that does anything. I know I was having issues connecting one day and I just had to uninstall and reinstall the app and it started working fine again.
Which type of wifi connection your phone presents is device dependent. Some can do infrastructure which will work, others can only do ad-hoc , which the Flyer and most android devices will not see without a modified wifi supplicant file. If your phone tether cannot be seen on your Flyer you need to install the wifi supplicant mentioned in other answers in the forum, do a search for supplicant . That is the only way to fix this, and you must be rooted.
I use Wireless Tether app on my rooted Droid X and the view sees it just fine. Connects without any issues.

I'm quoting DigitalMD because it appears this information may need to be repeated. I'm fairly certain that most Samsung devices are limited to ad-hoc only and that makes all the difference.
I'm downloading the wifi ad hoc enabler now to try this out...
I have a rooted Nexus S 4g on ICS- and wifitether works fine for my ipad2... but the HTC View doesn't even see the signal. Is this a carrier issue with the View, an HTC specific thing? I'm surprised the iPad had no issue as I've had plenty of public wifi connection issues...
Just trying to understanding the issues at play better here.

So I installed the latest 3.1-beta 11 to my Nexus S4g to try this before I go to other lengths to get the view to see it... but I don't see a MSS clamping options- only routing fix. I'm also trying device profile set to Evo 4g since that's what you had... still nothing...
Does it have anything to do with being on ICS on my Nexus? If you're doing adhoc from your evo (assuming...) why would the view not see ad hoc in my case?

Right, but to do that, i need the View to be rooted correct? The point i was trying to make was it seemed like some people got this to work without needing to do that...unless i misunderstood...
EDIT: The following worked for me- Fox Fi on the phone, "PDA NET for Tablet" application for the View. activate both... No settings to be changed, nothing needs root permission.

Title says it all. I can't locate the WiFi Tether app on here. Any help would be appreciated.
I just read Wireless Tether 2.0.7 works on the Rezound. I'm at work so I cannot try it though...search google and you'll find it.
Wireless Tether 2.0.7 did not work for me. Nor did 3.1 Beta 9. The SSID of the Tether is not broadcast, and manually creating a profile connecting to hidden SSID doesn't make a connection either.
In Titanium Backup I see an app called "TetheringGuard 2.3.4", but freezing or uninstalling it makes no difference.

tetheringguard is on my phone and my wifi tether works. yours does too. TetheringGuard only seems to have effect on the verizon wifi hotspot app (if you delete tetheringguard, the hotspot app stops working). Whatever device youre trying to see the SSID with doesnt like ad-hoc connections and thats the only way the app works on the rezound right now. Either that or you tried turning on encryption, in which case, just turn it off and run it open. It does work though, I've used it plenty to tether my fiance's Ipad2.
Anyone try the open garden tethering app in the market?

Hehe, I spent 58 days consulting on-site for a security company, it was hilarious how many people were trying to get into my Incredible's tether every day.
It doesn't work for me just stays on obtaining IP address
I use wifi-tether 3.1 beta 7 with mss clamping and routing fix enabled.
I also just decompiled with 4G hotspot and saw that you have to register with Verizon in order to activate 4G hotspot. There's a ton of checks in there.
After ICS, the Prime cannot see wireless tether options. I have tried both wireless tether and barnacle on my phone and now the Prime will not see them and allow a connection to my phone.
UPDATE: so here is the basic situation for new readers - in Honeycomb on the Prime, using tether apps worked perfect and the Prime accepted ad hoc network connections so you could tether your Prime to your phone easy. Under ICS on the Prime, the ability has been removed and now the Prime will not seem to allow you to connect to ad hoc networks - those typically made via tether apps with your phone.
HEY before you post up "it works fine for me" do your research & you will see 2 key reasons why some can report it works...
1) they have "native" tether built into their phones - which means it is part of the native built in phones ability
Or
2) they are rooted & have a ROM that has tether cooked into it essentially making it "native"
If your one of these people there is no reason or need to chime in that "it works fine for me". We know & your not part of the issue here but you chiming in confuses the issue if you have 1 or 2.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
UPDATE for TF300 users - 5.11.12
According this this user, this mod works on the new TF300
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
IT HAS BEEN FIXED BY ASUS - 2.31.12
As of this day, the recent .21 OTA update gave us ad hoc functionality back natively!
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
IT HAS BEEN SOLVED - 2.3.12
Based on a post I read the other day, and that I was asked to test today, I decided to try 1 more time and it worked!! But not how I expected. I tried 3 tests... the final one worked!!
So, here is the process:
1. root is required AND make sure you have your file system app (like Root Explorer) set to make files R/W so you can edit/rename/set permissions
2. turn off wifi
3. go into system/bin and rename wpa_supplicant2 to wpa_supplicant2.bak - that's right folks.. it is NOT wpa_supplicant but wpa_supplicant2 that is running the show
3. download the wpa_supplicant file found here post #24 in my other thread
4. unzip it
5. rename it wpa_supplicant2 NOT wpa_supplicant
6. move it to system/bin and paste it
7. set permissions to xxx, x, xxx (columns) - see more details below if confused
8. go back and start up wifi
9. turn on wifi analyzer and you will see (*)AndroidTether with no red Ad Hoc notation!!
10. click to connect
11. ****ing surf and tether away!!
No rebooting needed, it is instant
I am using the good old original Wireless tether 2.0.7 app I always used! None of those beta releases and picking settings and blah blah
Yes, I was able to connect right back to my local wifi with no issues as well!
PLEASE hit the thanks button, I worked long and hard on trying to get this to work
#7 details if you don't understand permissions settings
When you set permissions (long press the file) a pop-up opens and it shows 3 columns with 3 checkboxes in each. Each "x" is to be checked
Read...Write...Execute
x..........x..........x
x......................x
x......................x
ditto. FML
Seriously people, you have to send this POS back.
By keeping it all you are doing is sending them a message saying it's ok to palm their customers off with third rate shoddy products.
There's no way ANYONE should be 'happy' with paying for functionality they're not getting.

anyone else seeing this? lack of tether is a major PIA if that isn't a selectable option?
Tethering works with my LG Revolution. Running Wifi Tether 3.1-beta6.
Have it set to display in infrastructure not ad-hoc. Ad-hoc may be the issue here

Are you trying to tether to or from prime? If you are trying "from" prime (aren't you getting internet from wifi at the first place?) you can click more -> Tethering & portable hotspot
If you are tethering to prime, then all you need is to enable wifi?

No no.. I would never tether TO the Prime, no value in that.. I tether my Prime TO my phone. Worked perfect before ICS.
And no, it is not just as simple as "then all you need is to enable wifi?" that fact is exactly why they make tether apps.

Tether app is so you can send a data signal from that device, it isn't for connecting to a device that has data, you need to turn on wifi and locate the name of your hotspot and connect.
I can confirm also. Prime is not seeing my Wireless tether app or Barnacle. WTF is going on? this is a big deal as I use tether methods for internet to tablet away from home. What did they change to make it not work anymore?
