[View] Want to Downgrade to GB from rooted HC - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Not sure if this is the right section for such a problem, but hopefully someone can help me. I have an HTC EVO View 4G that I had Gingerbread with Revolutionary S-OFF and rooted. I then upgraded to rooted Honeycomb, but didn't make a backup (I'm not concerned about losing everything).
Is there a way to downgrade to Gingerbread? It doesn't matter if it's unrooted or not. I just want to get back to GB any way I can. I used an RUU .exe to get back to GB, but now my View is stuck at the white HTC screen. I can only access the HBOOT and FASTBOOT menus with the power and volume button. I can't access Recovery, it just goes to the white HTC screen.
Any suggestions on what I can do?

set up teamviewer and send me your connection details in a PM.

Find a 10 story building.
Go to the roof.
Hold tablet over edge.
Release tablet.
Problem solved.
This method worked for me. I was unbricked and rooted after that.

First, read the XDA rules.
Second, follow the XDA rules and search before posting.
Third, follow the XDA rules and don't start a thread in development unless you made something.
Those are my step by step suggestions.

So you took the OTA update and your saying it gave you "ship s-off" adding "Locked" above it? Were you rooted before you took the plunge...? Can you post a picture please of what this looks like if possible..

Don't break the first rule of S-OFF and rooting....
*** NEVER take an ota.
True.. I've done that before when I first started learning. It happens, but don't worry dude!! There will be a fix for that one day.. for now though, if that OTA messed up your S-OFF Root. Maybe you can find a way to fix it if you have the will power to learn
This sounds like a very noob question but here goes anyway, I am not taking the OTA update because I don't want to risk losing s-off and root. How do I clear the update notification in my notification bar. I don't want my kids to do the update on me when they play with my phone. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Gotcha.. Heres the process:
Hit Menu>Settings>System Updates>HTC software update>Uncheck Scheduled Check.
You can click on the OTA in your task bar and just click cancel. Its not going to automatically download. I just did that on my 3D evo so I assure it will work.
Just click on the Update and a popup box appears, just hit cancel and poof its gone until the next schedule update.
Thank you

I'm assuming profile and PRL are ok but not HTC software. What about firmware? Is that just the stock kernal update like I'm thinking it is?

Profile is your data/call/account information from Sprint. Updating this can sometimes fix errors with data/call/account stuff, or sprint might have you do it for whatever reason. No harm can come of it.
PRL is preferred roaming location, and basically updates your phone's knowledge of towers. Not vital to update, but can be done whenever just to be up to date. Also cannot cause harm.
HTC software is, well, HTC's software on your device. This can be in the form of apps or whatever other proprietary crap HTC has on your phone. This can cause some problems, and sometimes anti-dev updates can be hidden. Just wait for news if you see one of these updates.
Firmware update is something like going from android 2.3.2>2.3.4. Major android updates or device-specific changes will come through here. Don't do these updates; wait for their rooted counterparts.
Hope I helped.
Thanks. I had a brain fart on the firmware haha. For some reason I was thinking it may be called firmware but was using the wrong vocabulary or something lol. The others were fuzzy but my assumptions were spot on (yay).
Thanks again for the info!

I get this firmware confused with something that we talk about in Robotics all of the time. Don't worry about it
Haha thanks for answering that as I had the exact same question. I posted in the general Q&A forum with no response, I am new not only to rooting but this site too, so I didn't know the QA forums are also phone specific. Anyhow thanks RMACEVO427 for answering the system update icon question! Now, if you know, I am running the viper ROM and I was wondering if I would be losing any advantage of this or any future OTA updates by being rooted, or do the dev's keep patching up their ROMs to keep with/ahead of the game?

Good devs always incorporate anything good/useful from the OTA's in a timely manner. There is NO disadvantage to being rooted, except that you can't rent movies and books in the market.
What if I'm totally stock (S-on, unrooted) but I plan to get s-off and root in the future. I know people have warned that it might close the loophole to get s-off but what are the chances that devs will also have a workaround for the new firmware later on down the road?

Superoneclick. it's a windows app that does all the work for you, just make sure you turn on usb debugging when you use it.

Look at the sticky called Noob Guide and choose Option A. You can download the update.zip and root it that way. I have never been able to get Superoneclick to work correctly.

Noob question about root? (Sorry lol)

I need to root a 3D on my account but i'm at a loss. Had the original Evo and never rooted it since I only had it for a month b4 I went with the Epic. I rooted both Epic's with no problem it was mad easy. However I don't know if its me but the Evo process seems like its more complicated from what I'm reading. Or maybe it's just the fact I don't have the 3D in my hand at the moment. My thing is what is hboot and how do I check what version I am on? I don't even know what s-off is either smh lol. Is there a link with maybe easy steps to follow? PS flame away if ya need too i'm a Samsung boy so I know i'm a lil slow on the Evo..

Just go on the dev section in the "stickies" thread and there are multiple threads on how to root and answer all your questions. when you get you phone, to find out what hboot turn off, hold power and down button. since it is a new phone more than likely it will be hboot 1.5.

Do you skip threads that mention 1.5?

I have found myself skipping over threads that have 1.5 in the title, pop up dialog, or short thread summary in the app.
Does any one else do this? Wish it wasn't this way.
I am open to helping people but all the 1.5 questions are getting annoying

Deleted. Because my response was just as useful as the threads mentioned...
I just got the EVO 3D a few days ago, but as a themer this is in no way my first go around with gaining root access on a phone/and unlocking the bootloader.
When I came into these threads I had no experience with having to use HTC's (Stupid) unlock tool.
but I went to the roll up sticky thread on here found a guide to make sure I knew I was doing...
asked one little question on IRC I didn't see discussed on the threads , and I was done rooting and had flashed MeanROM in Total time: about an hour
I think if people would just learn to try and read and figure things out, instead of posting a thread about every little question and waiting for a reply they'd get done much sooner.
The guide to unlock the 3vo's bootloader was very easy compared to other devices I have used,
Tl;dr: noobs will be noobs.
It's not as easy for some where the HTC unlock doesn't even work. While others should just read the damn instructions and pray it works, it doesn't always work. It worked for me, but on my friends 3D I can't figure out for the life of me why the unlock will not work. I've tried just about everything. He has software version 2.17 which will not accept a 2.08 RUU and everything else I've tried fails on the last command to unlock the phone.

hah
I just ignore any threads with "MIUI" in the title, 1.5 hboot not so much
I'm on 1.5 and actually look for those threads when I'm logged in. But I do see waaayy too many of them for people to be trying to look around.
Unfortunately it seems like many of the useful "stickies" haven't been updated/clarified in a while (imo) and are creating some of the confusion. I've asked in some of those threads for the op to update the links etc (ruu's, Su, recovery, Hboot 1.5, adb/fastboot cmds) and haven't seen a reply.
I ended up creating a thread to help with this until/if the others get updated:

[ROGERS] Help get me back to stock

Hey guys I need a hand with this, I am currently running Android Revolution HD 7.0 by mike1986 which is amazing and if you havent given it a run you really should super slick but my diliema here is that I have some dead pixels in the screen and its only a week old or so which will be replaced for a new device. I saw this thread in development Device Essential Material *** RUU,s / Recovery / Radio / Root / S-Off / Guides ***but I am a little confused which I should download, if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I know ATT and Rogers work hand in hand so it cant be that difficult. I have def learned my lesson though should have backed up nandroid stock before I flashed
My CID is ROGERS001
Android version: 4.1.2
HTC Sence 5.0
Build number 1.29.401.13 CL177101
Did you end up getting your Rogers HTC one back to stock? I also need to send my phone back for dead pixels but never made a nandroid backup. So frustrated, any advice?
