can some body please tell me how to change battery and network icons..??? i would like to use circular ones... any help would be appreciated.. thanks..
Three ways you can change that:
1. Look in the Themes and Apps subforum and search for a theme for your baseband. Then flash the theme file.
2. Get a ROM with T-Mobile Theme Chooser for simple theme changing. CyanogenMod 7 (all variations) have that.
3. DIY in UOT Kitchen (quite hard to navigate through, but you'll get it in time).

Since nobody else posted one, this is my attempt at an ICS theme for rooted stock Arc ROM.
The theme has been tested and is working on version 4.0.1.A.0.283 and 4.0.2.A.0.42, and reported working on .58, however as always, install it at your own risk.
MASSIVE thanks to XperienceD, we now have a working release 5 with CWM installer! I did almost nothing on this release, so all credit to XperienceD on getting this one out there!
Please note, this is a framework THEME file. For the launcher (including icons) and ICS style lock screen, use LauncherPro and Widget Locker. PLEASE don't post here complaining that it hasn't changed your launcher icons.
New in Release 5:
Volume/Progress bars now ICS style, thanks to XperienceD.
ICS boot animation added.
Easy ClockworkMod installer
How to install:
1. Download and install the SE Extreme Tweaker tool from HERE.
2. Following the instructions, install the ClockworkMod Recovery for your Arc.
3. Place the theme ZIP file somewhere on your SD card, root directory is always an easy one.
4. Reboot into CWM recovery by powering up and repeatedly pressing volume down.
5. TAKE A BACKUP! I am not responsible for bootloops so always take a backup just in case
5. Once backed up, select Install ZIP from SD Card, and chose ZIP to install.
6. Navigate to the theme ZIP file, select install, once installed, reboot.
7. Enjoy! (Hopefully)
Note: For the ICS style gradient background, apply the Onyx theme.
Anyway, hopefully this will work fine for everyone as it is.

I was thinking about this. Basically what has happened is I got hold of all the theme resources I could and began porting them over. I'm really REALLY new to this so I'm not familiar enough with how it works to feel comfortable doing a lot of XML editing so that would involve editing over 100 images, which I don't have time to do.
This leads me on to something I was going to say anyway. If someone more experienced than me at this wants to have a go at the battery without %, and also getting the volume/progress bars to the new ICS style then please do!
I can supply resources for the progress bars but I have no idea how to go about editing the XML so it reads from the images as opposed to just the colours.
Thanks

It can't be flashed via recovery, should have said that, sorry! Are you definitely moving framework-res.apk and SemcGenericUxpRes.apk to Framework, and SystemUI.apk to the App folder?
yeah bud, status bar changes and so does tick boxes but nothing else, i am using arc s firmware .....

Thats really weird, the other icons and most other things like that are stored in the SystemUI.apk, but there are resources scattered across all 3 files so it's weird that the status bar changes but nothing else does. Are all the other resources the stock Sony Ericsson ones?
yeah just stock firmware apart from dooms kernel

It may have something to do with using the Dooms Kernel? I don't know how the resources and framework are laid out on that, I've literally only tested it on completely stock firmware except for root.

You need to have a themed launcher to make the icons.
The flash zip doesn't change the icons
Help me :
Can someone upload the stock
1. Android.policy.jar
2. Framework.jar
Its from /system/framework
Please

no man,
the icons in the launcher should be changed by urself,
if u want to change the icons, u should use costum launcher (launcherPro, adw ex, goLauncher, etc) that can be themed ICS,
u can find the theme at market
【GUIDE】 UOT online kitchen: long story short | your custom theme made in 10 minutes
to build custom theme:
in http://uot.dakra.lt/ goto "File upload" menu
upload below settings.uot file (unzip it), if desired (preset for SGY)
for SGY, you must upload 3 files (use e.g. MyPhoneExplorer to transfer):
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
/system/framework/twframework-res.apk
/system/app/SystemUI.apk
remember, SGY is a touchWiz phone.
then choose your options,
download your own settings.uot file for later rework (last chance),
in tab summary: "submit your work to kitchen",
wait 3 minutes and download in "pick up page" your UOT***.zip file to flash with CWM.
tested for SGY :flawless, Feb. 2012 (well ... almost. could not get new screensaver/lockscreen operational. any hint ? )
does this works on stock rom?
Yes it does. Simply upload the files.
Tried and couldn't get transparent status bar to work. I tried it on stock rom. Will it work with custom rom?

Yup..only works with deodexed ROMS only.Because the SystemUI.apk of the stock ROM does not have a smali folder.
Thanks. Guess I have to go back to custom rom.
Tried on hybrid rom and still not working. ):

Dude..we r talking about the transparency.I thought Silvane was unable to change the effect of status bar because of stock SystemUI that has no smali files. The transparent is dependent with our rom.The dude at "Show your Screen" thread is using creed rom and i guess only creed and bazzrom can support tht.Sorry for the inconvenient Silvane.
Hmm okay I'll try Creed's again later. Good thing I haven't restored all my apps yet. XD

Hello developers!
1st of all thanks a lot for making ROMs too simple to customize them as per our requirements. I am after a problem. I am working on a custom ROM with prior permission of it's developer to make necessary changes to his work.
I am having the ICS.apk which turns default rom to ICS look through theme chooser. I am also having the ICS look ADW theme. What I actually want to know is, how to make these themes as default while making ROM. Means I don't want to make users take the efforts to choose them through themechooser. I looked many ROMs having ICS as default theme but not getting how they did that actually. I know that the default theme is everything like system.apk,etc. But still changing ICS through theme chooser makes everything look like ICS. So I need that procedure. Also same for ADW launcher or if ThouchWhiz is available.
I hope you guys got my point. Waiting to here from you!
Regards,
Adwait
As far as I know, the apk's in system/app/*.apk are one of the things that are replaced when making a custom ROM. I've a stock ROM but certain elements like the status bar and settings page are from custom ROM. Try doing that. There's also a guide on how to make a custom ROM somewhere around here. Use the search tool
Just decompile each apk and replace the png's.
Some apps like systemui and framework will also require some code editing to change the font color and other things.

How to make it to look like the ROM as this?
Yes, the default system theme is built into the theme manager app located in system>app>theme manager open the apk using winrar and edit the pngs, this method will work on only.cyanogenmod 7 Rom.

I have the stock GB icons and i want the Faenza icons but i use the xperia s launcher, which does not support themes.
Which rom are you using now?(It may be lot more easy to answer if you let me know )
If you use CM7 or CM9 you can change icons through theme chooser-
In this case what you need to do is just build up APK that includes your icon pack.
For MIUI it's much easier to changes icons. Search for MIUI theme building on MIUI theme forums or here on XDA MIUI threads.
If you're using neither of above ROMs(like GingerBlur...based on Blur ROMs) it'd be bit more difficult-
There's two types of ROMs
-Deodexed ROMs are easy to change icons through CMW flash
-Odexed ROMs are hard to do it. You've got to deodex it beforehand
Some ROMs like Nottachtrix supports some themes so if you work on theme you should be able to do what you want.

thanks but i have no clue about building apk's or themeing...im using CM7 and i want to change some specific icons
Hello,
So, this is not really a theme as it cannot be "applied" : main apk`s are modded (framework-res, contacts, mms, phone, settings, systemUI, AccountAndSyncSettings).
!! Warnings !! :
1- Locales availables are EN, PT and FR, the others are deleted.
2- Made with cm7 nightly of august 12 2012, so it's compatible with neutrino 2.9. But if you're running Official cm7 you can have trouble.
3- Make a full backup before tryieng to flash this !
Some screenshots of this flashy carnival like theme : here
Cwm flashable Apk's : here
Option 1: fonts
Option 2 : RedCarrier (carrier name that appears in lockscreen / it's white by default)
OPtion 3 : Bootanimation made from NexusQ video.
Hope some people will like it. :silly:
Why not make a metamorph theme? That way you can elliminate at least two of your three warnings, and it will possibly be compatible with other ROMs too.
I know ... but absolutely all the png are modified (some xml too) and it will be a big job to rename all of them. Or not ?
You don't have to rename anything. Basically you just extract all the png/xml from apks/jars, put files from each apk/jar in its own folder, create a xml file describing the theme, and pack it all into a ZIP.
Seems Like a Good Idea.

" create a xml file describing the theme" : i think this one will hurt in terms of time ...
Do you know a good tutorial ? I will have a look if some people like the theme.
thx.
Sorry, I don't know of any tutorials (although some might exist). I normally just take an existing theme and adapt its XML.
It shouldn't be a problem modifying an existing XML, the file is pretty simple and straightforward.
I tried to flash this twice on nuet 2.9 and nothing changed....? Maybe I need the theme engine?

If yes and assuming you are on stock neutrino 2.9 rom ... there is possibly a problem with my install script ... I going to verify.
yup ... it was a bul**** in my script ...
I'm re-uploading ...
Done. You can download and try again.
Sorry !
